5 year old macbook (not pro). It is old but it can't be that bad. Mavericks. Need more information?
It's not about staking. Just the start up. The green small loading window. A friend of mine with a MacBook pro is having the same problems. I can post Screenshots if you need

anyone else having troubles with starting the mintcoin wallet using a mac? it is stuck on "loading block index" for about 25 min now. I guess the windows users don't have those problems? and it uses 20% of my CPU?!

Hi everyone ! :-)

I'm happy to announce to the MINT community that we have added Mintcoin to our dice website :

http://mint.altdice.net !

It is a dice game like Satoshi Dice. You can win more than 250.000 MINT per single bet !
The game is almost instant (waits for 1 confirmation). Provably fair game. 98% expected return. 2% house edge.

Have a try ! It's easy.  Smiley
Send anywhere from 5 MINT to 230.000 MINT to MfeSDHap358j9etKQRw94iaax5pUCn1Rpj => This is the 90% odds to win game address.
If you win, you get back automatically whatever your bet amount * 1.089. Otherwise, you get 0.01 MINT back to your wallet.
Do not play from exchange or web wallets.

Come on http://mint.altdice.net and multiply your MINTs ! :-)

I wish you to have a lot of fun on http://mint.altdice.net and the best of luck. Smiley

If anything, feel free to contact us either via the Contact Us feature on the website, or with a PM here on Bitcointalk.

works quite well. at first difficult to comprehend but it actually is fun. thx! Roll Eyes

and something we also need because of the iphone users -> a simple and secure web-based wallet. it doesn't need the minting option. just simple send and receive functionality. what do you think? it can't be that difficult to arrange? maybe use the mintcoin website? a lot of people use those fancy phones and totally miss out on the whole crypto thing  Grin

Something that truly bothers me with crypto (any crypto, bitcoin included) is the poor distribution (Gini index). How to be give mintcoin to people who need them the most, that is, the one who are not in crypto yet?

I am thinking of having an address setup just for that (low price makes it easier to buy it) but there would still be the issue of having it simpler for anyone to download. I think the android wallet is the easiest way to go, much easier than a desktop wallet, I believe.

So once the Android wallet is done, we could start contacting our IRL friend a give them mint? I am wondering if it is difficult to send mintcoins for any new install (it would have to be automated, anyway)? This is the closest I can think of (out of airdrop, which is out of the question) to avoid giving to some who don't need it.

Thoughts?

excellent idea. i have also been thinking about that. i suggest as soon as the android wallet is released we just give the first 10000 people who download our app and leave their address in the google play store as evaluation some free mint (100-1000). you know "john xy 5 stars 2141523412ajaodjss" it can even be down manually or maybe using a script i don't know. of course it has to be communicated through various channels. that way we can ensure at least our position as the first ones with the PoS wallet. i don'T think it could affect our price negatively. the most people wouldn't even know how to sell those coins. and they will just send some to their friends to try it out.

what do you think?

yeah that order book thingy for mint is really brutal. but than again i don't believe in the walls. they are just set up to influence the market. they are likely to be removed if the value starts rising. don't care about them. just keep buying if you can afford to. we can't fall deeper than 0  Roll Eyes

i think the most coins this low are just minted coins which some whales already got for "free". so they haven't paid for them and try to sell them quickly. really short sighted. we have to remain confident and become the whales ourselves  Grin

So what is the story with the Android wallet? When will it be fully functional and released to the public?

i think paspi is really into it. check his latest update. better release a solid product than rush the things.

guys i don't remember: is it possible to not release it completely open source? those blackcoin guys will copy it within a week if it's any good! it wouldn't be fair!!! any ideas?

i was thinking about the upcoming mintcoin foundation and the android wallet. what do you guys think of the following idea.

as soon as the foundation and the android wallet are up and running we select a known organization a lot of Mintcoin members would like to donate some coins to like e.g. PETA or WWF or something else. Instead of asking them whether they want to accept Mintcoin for the donation we already collect some donations worth maybe couple of hundreds of euros. Then an official Mintcoin donation letter/email to Peta/WWF/? "Hey guys, our foundation likes your work. We already have couple of millions Mintcoins waiting for you. all you have to do is tell us your Mintcoin wallet address. It would be nice if you could also post this address at your site so other people could donate it directly to you. You get the address by downloading this official Mintcoin app at the Play store. Any android device is sufficient. As soon as you receive the money you can of course directly convert it to USD/EUR and so on. Or you just keep it for a while and watch it getting more and more according to our protocol". Then something like, hey please answer within 1-2 months otherwise we donate that money to another organization.

I think that might be a nice incentive for them to accept Mintcoin as a way for a donation.

As always I'm curious what you guys think about it.

P.S. mr. beaverslayer, i've just donated my promised 300k to the bounty address above. please update! Roll Eyes

guys, how about everyone just contacts his/her favourite blog, music artist, clothing store to start accepting mintcoins? I mean for all the blogs out there that don't get no payment at all a little bit of mintcoin might be really nice. what do you think? it is just a mintcoin adress and a small wallet.

Coinkite sounds nice. Although it will most definitely affect people living in Canada and USA at the beginning. I also think that the whales could easily contribute a bit to the cause. BC raised the remaining amount within a day. They are really fanatic about that, so maybe we should at least show our interest.  Grin

welcome aboard! if you have some ideas for the future development don'T hesitate to post them! people here in the thread are really friendly!

Thanks!  Cheesy

I believe that the mint-qt needs some improvements, e.g.:
- Implement a small symbol in the bottom left showing when the wallet is "minting", when rolling the cursor over, you can see status, e.g. that you are not minting because your coins are not "old" enough, and then show the age of your youngest coin.

- Safty: when wallet is unlocked and mininting, then should the user be asked for the password again if sending mints.
- The logo in the wallet, should be more appealing (simple), perhaps just a mint-leave or the mint logo.
- Better installer, manually coping the conf file is not ideal.
- Window 64bit support.
- Mint blockchain bootstrap as torrent.

This is not meant as a criticize to mint-qt, it works great and is stable, just suggesting for new features.

you can contact kergecoin or the developers with your suggestions. i think these are really simple improvements that can be implemented in the 1.9 version.

Do we have an approximate ETA on the android wallet release? Not complaining, just wondering when it will likely be out.

paspi gave us a recent update just a few pages back. there are some problems that we have to solve. maybe you could comment if you have ideas?

254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin V1.8, Energy Saving Coin *27 Exchanges *45 Merchants on: April 17, 2014, 04:22:46 PM
Seems to have gone a little quiet with the marketing side of things.

Anyone care to update how things are traveling with Merchants, plans etc?

It's hard watching others fly, when MINT has so much to offer. I realise long term is the big goal, but would be nice to see some action.

Not anymore. Something is going on. Huge buys just happened. At sell prices... Someone is digging into this coin quick and buying up.

My question is what don't I know. Not a typical pump tactic to buy at current levels... So is something about to happen that will spike this coin?

I have just joined MINT a few days ago.
I have bought 5m over the last days, at 15-16 satoshi.

Not looking to dump, my plan is to MINT - and see if I can help the community make the coin takeoff.
I am a strong believer in PoS.

I have a background in mining, but I am almost completely out of mining (expect one scrypt-miner and one GB), I am most likely not going to reinvest in mining, the profit margin is simple to narrow.
I believe that other miners will do the same when the scrypt ASIC miners seriously hit the market.

welcome aboard! if you have some ideas for the future development don'T hesitate to post them! people here in the thread are really friendly!

Android wallet update 2:

Oh, OK.

Actually I'm thinking on this. Probably minted POS blocks on android will not include broadcasted transactions as they cannot actually prove the transactions are valid (It won't be good to include non verifiable transactions in a block, the network would reject the block and all work to generate that POS block will be wasted). Although this would mean android wallets would be selfish, not helping to include transactions in the blockchain, it also means that they won't receive the transaction fees, leaving them to other clients to collect. So I guess it's fair.

thanks for the detailed explanation. is it correct that the selfish android wallet would still get some coins minted without the transactions included in blocks? if so how much fees are there? how many coins would such a wallet "lose"? i haven't fully grasped the minting process. if the android wallet would still mint but receive a bit less coins than the actually verifying standard client while being safe from scammers it's totally fine by me. and i think the others will also agree to that.

another (but maybe same) idea. is it possible that the android wallet just verifies that it is on the main chain by using the public blockchain by waiting a bit? Grin so maybe the transaction is a bit delayed but the android client knows the main chain which is being secured by the normal clients? and it doesn't need to check all the other possible chains. just wait for the others to decide which way to go. you know what I mean?

and another idea. maybe it is possible to use some kind of a random function for the wallet to download only random 10 000 historical blocks from the blockchain. any 10000 blocks. and keep them stored in the wallet. that way it isn't necessary to download the whole blockchain while the possible attacker still doesn't know which blocks the android wallet knows for sure to be correct and included in the main chain. is it sensible?

i hope my questions/ideas give you something  Grin maybe a more experienced person like Kergecoin or one of the developers could comment?

Excellent initiative, BitcoinFX!

Our coding team could probably compile a wallet for the raspberry. This would be a great way to advertise mintcoin, especially if can secure some advertisement. Could the marketing team handle this?
(if anyone wants to join the marketing team, contact me)

there is already a raspberry pi wallet for NXT which runs on solar energy. it is a nice gimmick but i don't think it will be used by a lot of people. it takes some time to get it to work properly and most people will not invest that amount of time. further isn't there already a linux wallet for MINT? isn't it possible to put this on a raspberry pi? maybe someone can try?

i think the android wallet is the best opportunity. you can always run a low spec android device with a solar adapter. great for people in warm countries  Grin

Android wallet update 2:

Hey paspi, amazing news!

I've read your post a couple of times now. And still I don't fully understand the way the wallet works or the possible problem.  Roll Eyes Maybe you could explain it using an example? I'm not that techy so please keep it simple. I would really like to help you.

Do you see any possibility of a malfunction or a possible scam when the android wallet you're developing uses only the transactions of the last 40 days?

Is this problem only relevant for the minting process or is it necessary to have the whole blockchain on the android device in order to simply send and receive mintcoins?

Maybe it is possible to verify only some blocks of the blockchain instead of having the whole blockchain on the android device. I mean additionally to the blocks from the last 40 days maybe only verify the 100th or the 10000th block of the blockchain. That way it is secured that the correct blockchain is used? Or is it another problem?

Also maybe it is possible to mint using the android device without securing the network? (<-sound stupid but i mean it). As long as enough wallets are run on the laptops and pcs the network is secure.

Thank you for your efforts and your explanations!

Hey, i'm too stupid for this particular faucet on the main page Shocked Haven't been able to get some faucet coins from there. How about asking other faucets to add Germany Coin. coinok.pw is a nice one. But the developer asks for a small bounty. Maybe you could contact him? Don't let other german trolls get you down. Privacy is too important for the average german  Lips sealed Work on that and you will be successful!!!

Android wallet update:

Hello everybody; I'm working on a Java MintCoin library and an Android wallet.

For best security and long term development, I forked from latest bitcoinj last week. Converted it to Scrypt. Made it able to communicate with my local Mintcoin wallet over network. I just updated it to understand and accept PoS/PoW hybrid blocks, and I can announce you that it can sync with the blockchain from genesis block up to #239870, which is generated just minutes ago Smiley

There are some missing features yet:

- It can validate PoW block difficulties (calculation is a little different in PoW/PoS hybrids than pure PoW coins, PoS blocks affect calculations, and modifying bitcoinj library for this task really had some challenges) ; but it doesn't try to validate PoS block difficulties yet (this is a security issue and will be fixed before releasing)

- It doesn't verify POW block rewards (due to the fact that I couldn't find a specific pseudorandom generator implementation that decides on randomized POW block rewards). I don't think this would be an issue as the main use case would be a Simple Payment Verification wallet, checkpoints will cover our security up to removal of PoW from MintCoin (though it will be nice to have the checks in place)

- Minting: It's now almost clear that minting would be possible even in SPV wallet mode. I will annonuce details later. I have to figure out validating PoS blocks first.

- UI: I'm just trying to get the pure library working properly now. Once the library is working, it'll be very easy to fork/make an Android App that uses it

- Bloom filters: Here is a request for the community: Current Mintcoin wallet doesn't support Bloom filters. Bloom filters allow SPV clients download only the transactions they're interested in (instead of all transactions in blocks), reducing mobile users' data usage dramatically. Please put a bounty on it so that someone can merge it from bitcoin client. Android wallet will work without Bloom Filter support in the main client, but its data usage would be much more.

Amazing news! Great! You are awesome!

guys i'm wondering if its possible to include some free mint with every wallet? you know like an automated faucet? that way as soon as you install your wallet and the blockchain is updated you automatically receive 10 MINT or something. I think people would like it and then they can instantly send their friends some coins or receive some. And they see that the wallet actually works. Only a few people know how to access an exchange and buy coins. That's too complicated for a beginner.

what do you think? of course there would have to be a way to protect the wallets from being scammed automatically  Tongue

I really don't think that is possible and would just create a nightmare of people or bots downloading wallets every second just to get the free Mintcoins.

There are many ways to get new people involved and give them free coins.

Facebook tipping app...you can give and get a number of different coins  https://apps.facebook.com/wpmultitipping/

Twitter Tip Bot   https://twitter.com/MintTip

I've even shown people on their own computers how easy it is to download and instal the wallet and then use the faucet, Facebook Tipping and Twitter tipping. Now I'll be helping them get set up at Vault of Satoshi as well, this will give them another way of getting more Mint. Once they see how easy and fast things work, they really get into it, and the interest Mint pays makes them Happy Happy Happy...

i understand your concerns but I disagree. Let me explain.

May I ask what country you're from? I'm from Germany. In Germany the average people are just way way back in the internet age. The most people don't even know how to operate a simple PC. In Germany the majority of the people just simply don't trust anyone telling them about electronic money transfers or computers and co. Most people don't even use online banking because it can be "hacked". It took a long time to get the people to use Wifi without fearing losing all their savings to an anonymous hacker.

Therefore hardly anyone in Germany uses twitter. I have to admit I have a twitter account but use it only twice a year Smiley

Additionally Facebook is a big enemy for the average German. Most people use it but with fake names or with the privacy settings raised to the maximum. So only a few would use a Facebook application like the tipping app. Some use Candy Crush but it's another story :9 The whole Germanycoin Airdrop failed mainly because they used facebook to give the Germans some free coins. The users called it an outrage!

As said before the average German doesn't want to click to many buttons or to give away to much of his/her personal information therefore it is really difficult to convince someone to install a wallet, then go to another page and do something in order to get some free coins.

My suggestion against all the scammers and bots out there:

- average Joe installs the Mintcoin wallet. As soon as the wallet is synced a message appears "Do you want to claim your free 10 MINT?".
- average Joe clicks Yes -> Please verify that you're human, enter that captcha -> After that the 10 MINT are sent to the newly created wallet address. Just once.

Everything happens within the wallet. No extra clicks. No sites. No privacy abuse. See it as a faucet within the wallet.

What do you guys think? I don't think it is so difficult to implement a simple captcha and an automated faucet into the wallet.

Thanks for reading my wall of text  Cheesy

I'm from Canada, basically the most internet connected country. Canadians do almost everything online, and have been for many years. Here in Canada, you are able to connect to WiFi almost anywhere, the ISP I am with, Shaw Cable, is currently installing free WiFi systems in as many businesses that they can.

I can understand the concept of your idea, but I still think it's something that is not going to be able to be implemented easily. You also say that Germans are very skeptical about doing anything online, what makes you think they would embrace this idea of downloading a wallet and such, before they would participate on Twitter or Facebook or even online bank?

As of right now, they can download the wallet, install it and visit a Mintcoin faucet totally anonymously without having to enter any personal information whatsoever. They can also set up a Twitter account with fake information just like you say they do with Facebook.

Here's an article about the Canadian Senate having discussions with the big players involved with Bitcoin here in Canada....very good read.

http://www.coindesk.com/canadian-senate-meets-bitcoin-community-fact-finding-session/

canada sounds really awesome for a nerdy guy like me  Wink here in Germany you only get 1 hour tops of free Wifi at Starbucks and McDonalds. The others are all really frightened that you might download some illegal Macklemore mp3s or anything using their wifi.

Maybe some devs or Kergekoin? might say something regarding the implementation of that faucet thingy. i think it would really ease the things up for the average users. I don't want to offend the faucet sites but to many people they look a bit shady.

btw if one would convince an average German to install a wallet i can promise you only a few of them would know how do deinstall it.  Grin
