241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / SpreadCoin offers bounty for a GPU miner on: November 13, 2014, 03:01:56 PM
SpreadCoin offers a bounty for a GPU miner. Make a GPU miner for SpreadCoin and get reward for it. I will test your miner on my Radeon R9 280X and pay you 10000 SPR per MH/s (e.g. for 1.2 MH/s you will get 12000 SPR). It must work on Windows and Linux and it must be released under open source license on github. All the necessary functionality (JSON RPC) to make an external miner will be soon uploaded on github. You can contact me if you need any guidance about mining algorithm or interaction between miner and wallet.

SpreadCoin is different from other proof-of-work coins because it has no pools, only solo mining is possible as described in my whitepaper. This is to prevent concentration of mining power in pools.

Stopping mining now is a very bad idea. This miner seems to be kind and not using his power at full capacity, hashrate is about 8-9 MH/s, this is not something we never saw with CPU-only miners. It is the last chance to mine with your CPU, soon it will be impossible.

I started to work on an AMD miner, I haven't previously done anything like this, hard to say how long will it take.

I don't know how to set the mining address though.
From the OP:

Quote
Also you can mine to a specific address (this is useful if you are mining on several computers). To do so:
1. Use existing or better generate a new address.
2. Open debug console (Tools -> Debug Console) and enter:
Quote
dumpprivkey SYourSpreadCoinAddress
3. You will get your private key. Then open spreadcoin.conf or create it if it doesn't exist (D:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SpreadCoin\spreadcoin.conf on Windows) and add the following line:
Quote
miningprivkey=YourPrivateKey

To run spreadcoind your will also need to set rpcuser and rpcpassword in spreadcoin.conf, it will refuse to run if these values are not set. You can set them to anything because you don't need them for your purpose.

Notice that spreadcoind will need to synchronize with the network before it can start mining.

Be careful when storing your private key on other computers.

EDIT: Your spreadcoin.conf will end up looking like this:
Code:
rpcuser=user
rpcpassword=try453retgdg345dfg
gen=1
genproclimit=4
miningprivkey=YourPrivateKey

So what he did was puting a already made gpu miner code in your wallet code, and compiled it?
Already made GPU miner? There was no GPU miner, he is the first who made it.
But he would have just edited one the was already made and put it into the wallet, right?
I think he used existing code for X11 part but SpreadCoin algorithm is quite different, its not an easy task like just copy & paste some code. Even X11 part is different because preexisting X11 miners are designed to work only with specific block header size which is different in SpreadCoin.
He didn't actually put it into the wallet. It is an external miner, he probably modified the wallet to work with his miner.

I have only fraction of a bitcoin. How much does he want for the release? Maybe we can sell some SPR for BTC...
But with this trade volume and this exchange rate...
To gather even one BTC would be hard.

Any thoughts?
He didn't say how much he wants, I asked him and am still waiting for an answer.

I wanted to ask if there is a miner that can i run in command line on multiple computers in background?
32-bit Windows version comes with spreadcoid.exe which is a command line version of the client but mining with 32-bit version is about 2x slower than with 64-bit.

But honestly, that increase and unfair situation on SPR mining really discouraged me (and many others i think..)  Sad
Right now hashrate is about 10 MH/s and there were periods in the past when it was 8MH/s without any GPU miners.

He doesn't want to release it for spreadcoins, only for bitcoins. Anyone wants to donate bitcoins for this miner?

And he says that he is now mining with lower hashrate which means that there is other private gpu miner.

Author of GPU miner contacted me. It is a miner for Nvidia GPUs and he uses seven of them. I offered him reward for releasing the miner.

We have irc channel #spreadcoin at freenode.net (web interface). Not much is happening there right now.

I contacted them and asked to add SpreadCoin.

LOL. Twitter suggested me to follow various cryptocoins related accounts. I pressed 'follow' and it continued suggesting me other accounts so I just kept pressing 'follow' until it suddenly suggested me to follow justin bieber. I almost pressed this damned button but stopped in the last moment Grin

Mr. Spread, do you want our logo to be 512x512 so that it can go into the wallet?
Currently the maximum size which is used is 256x256. I tried to put it into the wallet, it seems acceptable but larger logo definitely won't hurt. I updated the rules with the requirement of the 512x512 logo and also added the following requirement:
Quote
Winner will need to share all the original source files used to produce the logo (like *.psd or files from whatever editor you will use).

Sounds good! I can't wait to see some people's logos.

Is the updated code (with the logo in the wallet) on the Github repo?
There is a pull request. I haven't merged it yet. Considering that we will use 512x512 logo it may need to be changed.

Hey Mr. Spread, can you put a logo into the wallet like this?
After the competition of course.
Yes, there is even pull request from palmd which I just need to accept.

Dev,could you verify SPR source code on this websit http://www.coinssource.com/?
On one hand,to verify source,on the other hand,to promote and let more people know this coin.
This is not source code verification. You can look at the section 'What’s Being Verified?' at http://www.coinssource.com/trust-index-verification/
I will look into that but considering that cryptocurrencies are illegal in my country (especially making them) and that they want to verify my identity I'm not sure if I will do it.

2. Post your work in this thread and PM me. You can post any intermediate variants and ask others what they think but PM me only with the final edition of your logo.
3. Number of submissions per person is not limited but I recommend you to make one or two good versions instead of ten bad.

Voting:
1. Time frame - 21-27 November.
2. Poll results will only will be visible only after the poll.
3. You can choose as many variants as you want.

I will announce the precise rules of the contest tomorrow. Meanwhile here are all the artworks that you will need to make:

Logo:

Splash screen (you can make it with different dimensions if you want):

Image in the 'About' dialog (it doesn't need to be vertical, you can make it horizontal):

Don't forget that logo should look fine even when scaled to 16x16. This size is used for example in Windows tray.

I followed them but how would this bring me any notoriety?
259  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties | CPU-only on: November 08, 2014, 12:20:49 PM
e1ghtSpace, net12345, zeca pagodinho and I hope there will be other participants. Looks like we will have a bunch of logos to choose from.

I was thinking about allowing to vote with spreadcoins. That is each participant will publish a SpreadCoin address and you can send coins to that address if you like the logo. We can than combine these votes with votes on this forum like it is usually done when you vote for adding coins to exchanges. But someone with a plenty of coins can then just ruin the whole voting process.
260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties | CPU-only on: November 08, 2014, 12:03:17 PM
What if we will have one week for submissions and then one week to vote for the best logo? I will make a bounty for the winner and probably smaller bounties for the second and third places.

If so, do you want it to stick to the current theme of purple or can it be grey or something?
If you will change the theme you will also need to change the splash image (that is shown at startup) and the logo in 'About' dialog.
