Do you understand how to interpret IMDB ratings effectively?

Nope, I was just going to post the titles and my comments then I edited it.

Doghouse gets 47 percent on rotten tomatoes. 2.25 stars out of 5 on Mubi.com.

IMDB rates stupid movies a little higher than they deserve, because it appeals to the masses. IMDB rates high grade cinema a little lower than it deserves, again because it appeals to the masses. All rating sites have their bias.

I'm not saying Shaun of the Dead isn't a great movie. It is. Hence it getting 8.0. Another movie on IMDB might get 7.6, but actually be a far better movie, taking into account many different factors.

Just sayin'.

At the very least, why don't you go buy an outlet or extension cord with bare wire ends on one end at the hardware store?

I'm stupid. Please explain it to me.
.....it might be a bad idea to sell guns AND ban them from schools at the same time, as slightly less people are getting killed in isreal then 'Murica. But i really don't think thats its a good idea to give guns to children, they are incapable of realizing what power they have in their hands.
Fortunately it does not matter much what you think.  There are countless examples of children  defending themselves and/or their families with firearms.

These go back to when Americans had children that went to one room school houses.  There were quite a few pitched battles between those children and attacking Indians.

So I would say, based on considerable evidence, that children are quite capable of realizing what power they have in their hands.
oh, you mean when religouse extremist from europe(the forefathers of 'Murica) invaded other peoples land('Murica), and the original inhabitants(The indians) defended themselves and their property? Do you really want to go there? You NAP people REALLY want to go there?

Regarding NAP and the NAPsters' hatred for democracy. I never did get an answer from them about who determines the guilt of the accused that was satisfactory.
In NAP its quite easy: the accuser determines the guilt of the accused.

Which is ridiculous, but true.

For if it isn't the accuser, then it would be:

- Some authority - but they're against authority.
- A jury of peers or some voting system - but they're against democracy.

bump

I assume you're bumping this because you want to be reminded again that Wong Kar-Wai's trilogy is still the best?

why is this bump is allowed here on this site is there any good reason for this   Cheesy

It's just a word. I wouldn't worry about.

More concerning is that faiza1990 has no input on the topic at hand. Do you?

But we don't want to live in a gun show.

See, that's the difference here. Some people like living in gun shows, but they are not forcing you to. You're free to live in a gun free zone if you want. You on the other hand don't want to live in a gun show, and are hoping to force everyone else to live the same way you do, too. That's the difference between others giving you the freedom to choose, and you forcing your wants on others, and is the same difference between anarchy and government.
if you want to live in a gun show. fuck off to another country. (just as you said to us, but less polite.)

There is PLENTY of country here to go around. You stay in areas that are completely disarmed, others can stay in areas that have guns, and I'll stay wherever the hell I damn please. Are the people in heavily armed areas, like for instance Texas or New Hampshire, trying to force cities like Baltimore, DC, Chicago, Detroit, and some states like NY and Maryland to force people to carry guns? Are they trying to force those places to make it legal to own and carry guns? No? They stop forcing those states to do what you want.

This has already been addressed by other people, including you. You have pointed out how ineffective that works - i.e Chicago. As I've said countless times here, uniform application of gun control is necessary.

A few facts from wikipedia:
USA population: 316,676,000
Isreal population: 8,051,200

Just saying...

Talk about deflating someone's thunder! How funny!

No idea what that is.

Great answer. Keep it that way.

btw. in denmark guns are not allowed, but for the police.
We have only had 3 killed by school shooting in the last 10 years, and that was in 1994, and the only incident in Denmark.

Why would you as a criminal target a school to massacre, when you have AN ENTIRE COUNTRY RENDERED LEGALLY DEFENSELESS?!
...and why hasn't is happened yet?

Can you answer my question please?

We've been down this path lots of times.  The problem is not guns.  It's culture, or lack thereof.

We haven't been down this path at all. Can you answer the question posed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=249514.msg3170168#msg3170168

I wasn't involved in the original discussion ... but I'll take a stab at it.  Judges are supposed to be representatives of the public, those deemed to be worthy of objectively and morally determining the sentence of the tried party.  More along what we have in the US today at the state and local level, instead of president appointments for life at the federal level garbage that we have today.  NO public official should have a life term without being duly re-elected by the people.

Furthermore, there is always supposed to be a jury of "peers" that are objectively selected by the judge.  Judges should not have the sole ability of determining the guilt or innocence of the tried party, but they ought to be able to throw out objectively determined "frivolous law suites".

Probably not the answer you are looking for.

Do you subscribe to NAP?

Oldboy (2003)

There was a discussion about this film in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=293034.0

Essentially, if you're willing to go that far, you've cheated yourself unless you've gone a lot farther.

Kill all dogs. I love dogs, but they're still just animals. Humans > animals. Simple as that. The ecology will find a way to replace their function.

That's a poorly thought out answer. It's pretty much a given that more people will perish from a complete elimination of all dogs on the planet than the sum total of your family members. But even so, your claim is actually subjective and self serving. Furthermore, you make the ridiculous mistake of not factoring in the time required for the ecosystems to find a substitute.
259  Other / Off-topic / Re: Critical thinking question. (Ecology question) on: September 17, 2013, 07:01:42 AM
Key words: trophic cascades, riparian zones, ungulates, water supply, wolves, ecosystem services.

Also: symbiotic relationships, companionship.

Answer: kill the family. Save the canines.
And why?

I already know why, else I would not have been able to belt out those key terms.

The real question is, do you disagree with me?
260  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Matrix vs Inception on: September 17, 2013, 05:32:13 AM
Ever since I said that the Matrix theory was older than Pilgrims, I wanted to prove it.

When I was like 14, I was into Gnosticism and Archons and I ran into a page on Wikipedia. According to my memory, it was about the middle ages, and demons called "Flyers" that create an illusionary world for us to believe in, while they farm us like in the Matrix (aka we die).

But I can't find the article. I've tried all variations of: Flyers, Gliders, Demons, Middle Ages, Illusion, False Reality, Matrix
And I can't find it...

The Matrix put nothing new in my head, nor did it affect me in any deep way, either emotionally, or in a cerebral way. Watch my movie selections. Trust me.

I mean, it put new stuff in my head, but I was 5 when I saw it, so most of the stuff in the Matrix was new to me.

But I was on mushrooms with some friends once, and they were all talking about the Matrix, and I was just kinda sitting there silently thinking about all their words.

And I finally decided to speak, and I said: "Its just like, a movie about having all the cheat codes in a video game". And they all felt really stupid for talking about it like it was such an important movie.

Even the difference between being "in" and "out" of the matrix. It's just like a gamer contrasting his own shitty reality (living in his mom's basement) to the game (being a awesome murder hero). And he's even a hacker, he just "mods" life. And the programmers (people like mouse, Morpheus, etc) are all amazed because they have to go through shit tons of code, and still can't make things like that happen in the game. "Video Game Jesus".

The Matrix just isn't deep. Period.

Watch Edward Yang's Yi Yi, and you'll realize there is a higher level of cinema. A random Google search yielded this review linked below. I don't necessarily want you to read it all the way through, as there may be spoilers, but you might read the first paragraph or so to get an idea of the greatness of the film. See review: http://www.reverseshot.com/article/13_yi_yi

Sounds like a good movie, he almost just writes about how it affected him in the review, and not the movie itself.

He echoes my sentiments, and pretty much everyone I know who has seen it, and in discussion on line. It is one of the most important films made, and cinephiles know it. Interestingly, another film on my list shows up in that series (best films of the decade). I didn't plan this. I just discovered the site a few minutes ago. Here's the other film: http://www.reverseshot.com/article/3_mood_love
