241  Economy / Services / [WTB] Need some coding work done :) on: April 16, 2012, 10:14:59 PM
Can people please give me quotes for these jobs:

The whole system of a mining pool, pps and prop.

A faucet site like coinad with a good advertising system.

I'm looking to buy these, but don't even know what language they would be in :3
Any quotes?

243  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Who has the highest hasing rate? on: April 15, 2012, 02:14:40 AM
Mystery Miner has ~1.35TH/s, I believe.
Its a problem, because they prevent their blocks from including tx, so about 15% of blocks have no tx, slowing down transactions.
Mystery Miner's ip is spanish.
Theorys include a botnet, and the government forcing its citizens to pay tax in mining power.

Don't put that in, he doesn't know what he's talking about. To say a currency is "backed" by something means that the issuer promises to exchange that currency for something at a certain exchange rate. eg, back when dollars were backed by gold, you could walk into any bank and exchange your dollars for actual gold. Bitcoins are not backed by the electricity or processing power used to create them, and as a matter of fact they're not backed by anything. Gold isn't backed by anything either, and neither is fiat money anymore. Bitcoins (and gold) have value because they are scarce (there's no way to produce more after the inital supply runs out) and because they are useful as a medium of exchange (you can buy things with them). That's it. They're not backed by anything nor do they have to be in order to be valuable.
Yeah, but saying they arnt backed implys that they are unlimited.
Really they are backed by demand and as you said, scarcity.
245  Other / Off-topic / How to get a ukrainian copyright? on: April 15, 2012, 02:08:37 AM
I need one for a .ua domain, so I can get konich.ua Cheesy

I had a dream I dressed up as a bat, and every day for a month I rolled in the cities of ukraine(with many people following with 'KONICHUA THE GREAT ROLLING BAT' posters) and put it on youtube. I then posted it to youtube daily, and after a month applied for and received a copyright.

Any ideas?

In years to come when this newspaper is happening I will be able to sell advertising in this first post.

That is all.

Well, that is only if you actually do this, which you won't. Or will you?

Burt, I understand the ppt.a, b and everything, but what is the ppt(no extra letter) that is selling?
Ah yes, I meant to mention that - especially the bids that have been placed.  That is the company that is issuing and backing the PPT.x bonds.  It is privately held by the 5 lenders mentioned above.  We each buy shares in this company at 100 BTC each.  The BTC collected in this company just stays there as insurance against a total default by Pirate.  It is not deposited in any Pirate related account as that would defeat the entire purpose of the funds.

So far we have sold 5 shared for a total capitalization of 500 BTC.  By our own rules this allows us to sell 500 x 4 = 2000 BTC in bonds.  In other words we have set aside enough BTC inside of PPT to pay back the bond holders 25% of their investment in case of a default.  You will notice that another 5 shares will be purchased before the next round of 2000 bonds, then another 5 shares, etc.

Some people have bid to buy shares of PPT at very low prices.  This just ties up funds they could be using to bid on other things - like PPT.A Smiley

Ah, nice idea.

This is where the bitcoin differs. It is a completely virtual currency. Not backed by any commodity it only exists in the cloud.

Bitcoins are backed by the power and investment needed to make them.

Otherwise, nice article.

I also thought about the "bond recycling", but as far as I know, there's no way for you to force users to sell you their shares back. Also you can not just hand out 0.28 BTC as far as I understood, as you want to make your cut by selling 1 BTC shares for > 1 BTC each week.

You could create new shares and keep a buyback offer open, this is exploitable however:
Let's say you sell 2000 shares and 4 weeks later buy back 1877 of them @1.28. You then have an open buy order for 123 shares @1.28. Then, to get back to 2000 shares emitted, you issue 123 more share, totalling to 2123 shares, sell 2000 shares and most likely this buy order will be fulfilled quickly, but not by the sleepyheads that did forget to sell their shares in the first place.

If possible with GLBSE, you could ask them to destroy the shares after paying the final dividend, they might need a way to liquidate assets anyways. Perhaps a feature request for a "liquidate asset" button (paying a final dividend and destroying all shares or returning them all to the issuer) might be in order? Smiley

+1 TO THIS FEATURE

I wish there was an app called "find my bitcoins" as that would be the killer bitcoin app Smiley

I think another killer app would be "watch my bitcoins".

It would notify you when certain bitcoins on the block chain got touched, as a sentinel for your machine being hacked.

It could come with a list of known addresses for sites/people, so when your bitcoins are sent it would say 'xbtc sent to xaddress. That address is known to be mtgox's'

To get the app, you would have to compile a list of 150 addresses you come across and their owners, contributing to the app.

What's wrong with just issuing a load then paying .28 dividends, not buying back?

Because their margin comes from people bidding higher than 1btc.

Oh, yeah...
Oops.
