241  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [CLOSED] 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC on: April 27, 2012, 07:49:39 PM
Block 177473 has arrived!

Here are the results -> http://pastebin.com/Tgv098AW

5 columns now (ticket number, email hash, ticket number hash, blockHash, final hash)

The final hash was calculated by: sha(sha(email) + sha(ticketNumber) + hashOfBlockFound)

Let's see who won!

and when you say sha()+sha()+hash you really mean concatenate not arithmetic addition, right?
Just checking...

We were all in newbie jail at some point and most of us have forgotten how irritating that was.

Except for those of us whose accounts predate newbie jail...

Oh don't ruin the moment, it sounded so romantic and nostalgic...

Are there actually 2 threads on this?
Just thought I had deja vous...

Frequently Asked Questions for the project added.

Sorry if I missed it in the thread somewhere else but what price bracket are you aiming for?

Very preliminary estimations gives a $2000 to $2500 price tag (4 to 3 MH/s/$).

Wow, that would be great!

OK, this is getting closer to the finish line. Gotta watch!  Grin

Options:

1. Add an end date.
2. Refund all btc and sell it.
3. Sell it and split the money - expenses to those who have tickets.
4. Halve the price of tickets and give every ticket holder another ticket selected at random.
5. Pay for more advertising and lose more money.
6. Do nothing.
7. Once you've reached more than ~600$ + 60 btc worth of ticket, slowly buy the remainder and be done with it. (April 3)
8. Mine with it and share profits among those who purchased tickets.

Just ideas.
Card now worth ... ~450 $ ... going down.

It's not the ideal mining card anyways.

248  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 25, 2012, 03:05:35 PM
could 18 people buy one unit and split the cards up and just plug into usb ?

Yes, the board has USB on it. I also had that thought a while ago, it's probably the cheapest method to get a board with their new chip.

249  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 25, 2012, 01:47:59 PM
Well they are already hardly coping with full upfront cost orders, if they offered down payment they could get an order log that would take years to clear.

IMO that statement doesn't make sense to me.
With paying full cost upfront, there's no incentive for them to speed up production, it actually makes them money by delaying orders (notwithstanding the reputation issue with that). Paying only a down-payment would give them an incentive to streamline and speed up the process to recoup their investment faster.

And yes the Chinese New Year  Wink
250  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Bitcoin inflation rate = 35%. Price = stable on: April 23, 2012, 08:13:45 PM

If Bitcoin is increasing in price with increase in nodes, it is good.

If Bitcoin is increasing in price with decreasing nodes, it is bad.

If Bitcoin is decreasing in price with increase in nodes, it is good. (Although this scenario isn't 'good' for miners, it is good for the Bitcoin)

If Bitcoin is decreasing in price with decrease in nodes, it is bad.

Then apply whatever inflation formulas you want. Smiley

OK, let's try some logistic regression analysis here:
Conclusion, independent on what bitcoin is doing, decrease in nodes is bad!  Grin

I am looking for ways to speed things up, and I dont mind spending money to do so - if anyone has any advertising suggestions I would be happy to hear them!

Thanks for playing!

At some point you are going to spend more on advertising than receive in ticket sales. At what point does it make sense to cut your loses and call this thing done?

I will not change the terms of the raffle,  it would be dishonest. The terms I made at the beginning of this raffle will not be changed, it would be wrong to change them for better or for worse...

People who have actually purchased tickets have been contacting me and giving me ideas on how I can better advertise and I appreciate stuff like this, I will be following through with this and please keep them coming boys I have no problem spending money if it will further this raffle, I will do what it takes to make this happen.

Well, I'm not so sure about that, I would think it would be unfair to sit on people's coins forever and keep the prize, in case all tickets are not sold.
That's debatable for me, and I guess many others would agree depending on how long this is going to continue, after all BTC is about the >50%  Cheesy

For future raffles you might want to put in an end date in case that there are not all tickets sold. Of course then you have the issue of picking a winner with a sparse set of ticket numbers, that requires additional rules (like trying the next block if a match to a valid ticket number cannot be found, or re-indexing the ticket number base to have a new smaller set of sequential numbers).

Anyways, just more than 20% sold, that's better than last time I checked.

OK, put me in for 1 BTC. At least to kickstart it Tongue

Great going, psy! I've updated the list in the OP as well as on bitcoin100.org: http://bitcoin100.org/about/partisans/

Thank you so kindly, psy, for your pledge. Now, we only need 8 more new members today to pledge their support, thus keeping us on track to gain 30 new members for the month of April. Is it you?

~Bruno~

Man, you got me.
1BTC to keep the project going, more possible depending on the progress.

Cheers!

That's GREAT. Thanks wogaut! I don't think Bruno is online right now but I know he'll add you to the list of donors most likely at some point within the next 24 hours.

I'm glad to help.
Thank you for your efforts too, it was one of your posts that made me consciously aware of this; I read so many posts that there are many that just drown it the noise.
253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Evil of religion, and investment into IBB, Islamic Bitcoin Bank on: April 21, 2012, 06:48:25 PM
Let me make it clear right now that Iran is not a Muslim country!

Good post, 9/11 is really hard to discuss, while it was a terrible act of terrorism, it's almost like invoking Godwin's law when brought up in a discussion. Personally I think it was a unforgivable act of American officials to attack a country as a whole for a terrorist act.  Just think about it, if there's say a group of fundamental terrorists in another western country attacking a target in the USA, the US would most certainly not start a religious war against that country but try to persuade the government of said country to assist in finding those responsible of the acts of terrorism.

But how is Iran not an Islamic country?

Quote from: Wikipedia
Religion in Iran is dominated by the Twelver Shia branch of Islam, which is the official state religion and to which about 90% to 95%[244][245][246] of Iranians belong. About 4% to 8% of Iranians belong to the Sunni branch of Islam, mainly Kurds and Iran's Balochi Sunni. The remaining 2% are non-Muslim religious minorities, including Bahá'ís, Mandeans, Hindus, Yezidis, Yarsanis, Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians.[38]

I understand the subtle difference between Islam as a religion and Muslim as a follower of said religion, but what specifically are you referring to that makes Iran not an Islamic country?

And how is this all related to IBB anyways?

I said it before, I support non-usurious financial practices, so I think senbonzakura deserves our encouragement, and I also said it before, even the Bible has these elements in it verbatim, but that's the part that Christianity never took that serious, I guess.

Very interesting topic.
Watching closely...
256  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Mini Rig Box on: April 20, 2012, 11:34:32 PM
(and I reserve the right to cancel my rig-box order then).

Unlike the singles, when I ordered my rig box, Sonny said that due to a majority of the funds going into the production, order cancellations are not allowed.

Good info, thank you!
257  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Mini Rig Box on: April 20, 2012, 07:09:07 PM
Nope, not interested in that.  If we are doing large amounts, we would have to escrow the full amount. 200 BTC is only about $1000 at current rates, not really worth the risk.  I might take the risk for a full rigbox (mini-rig).  Bet big or go home, as it were.

Yeah, I'm sure for a full mini-rig value you would immediately get the BFL guys on board and make sure I get preferred delivery (or switch places in the order line). Too bad that this wouldn't help me, on the contrary I would just make sure to immediately lose my rig-box to you.  Roll Eyes

258  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Mini Rig Box on: April 20, 2012, 06:26:10 PM
Haha, I think you are.  Do you want to bet on a RigBox, too?  I'm open to the idea... Smiley

I might take you up on a bet (as a small hedge for lost BTC on late delivery):

If I ordered today (Sonny has consistently quoted 12-15 weeks delivery time on Mini-Rigs) I expect the Rig-Box to be shipped no later than the next business day after 15 weeks, that would be August 6 (right?).
Given the large sum the order might go through by Monday (special requirements, I'll cancel some BFL Single for that).

So my Rig-Box ordered no later than Monday April 24th (by 4pm CDT) isn't been shipped by Monday August 6 end of the day CDT, you will pay me 200BTC (nice round sum, sorry not the full rig-box amount) within 2 weeks of that date (and I reserve the right to cancel my rig-box order then).

If it gets shipped by Monday August 6 end of the day, then I'll give you the first 200BTC mined with it.

What do you say, are you interested?

259  Economy / Services / Re: Mining contract offer (checking demand) on: April 20, 2012, 04:15:12 PM
not at that rate, but if it was lowered maybe.
Well, another option is 8 months for 1000/12*8 = 666 BTC

That would be profitable (right now). Need to think about it.
260  Economy / Services / Re: Mining contract offer (checking demand) on: April 20, 2012, 04:14:45 PM
Which would mean a break even of about 15 months given current difficulty and bitcoin price.
Even if BTC goes up by 18%, one just breaks even after a year if difficulty stays the same.
Did I miss something?
How it's related to bitcoin price ?
I don't know - I see that others are selling mining contract, so why not offer something similar too ? Smiley
If the difficulty and block reward stays the same, it should be profitable.

I see your point, I'm thinking too much of a miner paying bills in $$$. But 1000BTC for 1 year @ 5GH/s is not profitable; block rewards will not stay the same as we know.
