I'm not really worried about the order the refunds are processed.  We're talking about a few days max here for that.  Fight over that as you will.  But today is day 6 after an update that promised more frequent updates.  If there isn't an update tomorrow that's a full week of radio silence, after an update that took 9 days and promised more updates.  Come on.  Are there any other talks with Yifu?  What is to be done about the inevitable partial batch?  Gen2 preparation?  I'd like to see some updates.
242  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: September 17, 2013, 08:39:49 PM
Maybe when some generous volunteer's turn to be processed is reached, the time that would have been spent processing that person's refund or whatever could be spent instead on fitting in however much of any update is possible within the span of time processing that individual's case would have taken, and the person be moved to the bottom of the queue so that the entire queue does not get held up while yet another update gets quickly whipped up and sent out?

I am starting to think there ought to be real usefulness for some kind of scheduling system that will let people do such tradeoffs, so that individuals who prefer to be mothered can choose to be mothered without those who prefer that production or processing or whatever take priority over mothering having to suffer whole production or processing line(s) being stalled pending some public relations brochure creation or press conference or whatever.

Maybe even include in price lists up front, chips, board, assembly, per hour of press conferences or brochure/newspaper publishing, etc etc etc...

I guess the people who like mothering will be willing to pay extra to have some motherly type at a desk 24/7 to chat with them, I know when I was up all night and day tracking down problems to try to get systems up and running it always seemed unproductive to me to keep having to stop actually working on fixing things in order to explain to some customer on the phone that they have a simple choice, they can chat with me on the phone or they can hang up so I can get back to working on the exact damn problem they are phoning to moan about...

Presumably no news is good news, in the sense that someone is actually working on the problem instead of making up press releases about it.

But hey, if you prefer the Josh Zerlan method - updates galore - maybe you should be buying from BFL?

-MarkM-

Actually, I do prefer extra updates and being treated as a customer and not some guy on the internet who happened across a group buy.  That's why I paid .086 per chip when there were .078/chip options out there.  I already paid my premium for "mothering".  Now I want what I paid for.  I'm still losing 5% on my refund, and that should go in part to processing refunds and updating those waiting in line.  Is it really that expensive to say "X refunds processed, Y refunds in queue, Z refunds rejected.  That is all".  It literally took me 4 seconds to type that.  Let's not degrade those of us who wish to know what is going on please.
243  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] NanoFury NF1 USB stick - GROUP BUY of BITFURY chips + US PRODUCT ASSEMBLY on: September 17, 2013, 03:33:22 PM
So this is one of those bring your own chip deals?

That is indeed one of the two options. We can use your chips, or we can buy the chips on your behalf.
So if I can get in .4 by oct 1st I can get one assembled  with a chip?  Then maybe .3 more when done?
Thanks.

The 0.3 second payment (after the final price is clarified) would actually most likely be less than 0.2 (and we're hoping for 0.1) so that the final price would be in the 0.5 range (although if we attract fewer orders than anticipated we may have to buy bitfury chips at higher price - e.g. zefir's 0.27BTC/chip which would result in final price around 0.6).

The problem here is that the final price is unknown and policy states I have to commit without knowing the price.  Can you guarantee that .6 is the ceiling?  I'm a small buyer but I imagine the sentiment is the same.

He specifically said no one will be forced to take a refund.  I read that to mean that those who don't want the refund in the partial batch will be serviced with a partial shipment, the rest of which LSD will absorb.  That's a possibility, right?

It seems to me that it doesn't really speak to that possibility. He said that no one would be forced to take a refund. That leaves open the possibility that some people who want a refund will not get it, but it doesn't rule out the alternative of LSD taking a refund for some variable number of chips.

I can see how this would be technically accurate.  Both options are on the table, although I believe from the tone of the update that this would be the less likely option.

See steamboat; this is why we need updates.
245  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: September 17, 2013, 12:03:41 AM
We don't know steamboat's plans vis-à-vis partial orders.  Steamboat mentioned he had refunded his personal batches as well.  Maybe he will absorb the refunds for the partial batch and mine with the rest.  He specifically said no one will be forced to take a refund.  I read that to mean that those who don't want the refund in the partial batch will be serviced with a partial shipment, the rest of which LSD will absorb.  That's a possibility, right?  Not sure why people are convinced that it's inevitable someone will get screwed (well, we all got screwed by Yifu, but I reference batch refunds only here).

Steamboat, we are approaching 1 week with no updates.  Can we get some love please?

Refund or board, I want SOMETHING.  Ughh.
247  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BPMC Launch BF1 USB miner - probably the fastest USB miner in the World on: September 16, 2013, 02:51:37 PM
im confused. with block erupters being around 0.13 BTC with 336 mhash, and the BF1 being 2.1 BTC with 2.5ghash, you would need 8 block erupters to have the equivalent power. it's still like a 1BTC cheaper. Yeah you need hubs and it's a nuisance etc etc, but still cheaper. why not go for block erupters??  Huh

Agreed, although 8 erupters use 8x the power of 1 BF1, which makes a small difference.

Unlike some, I'm not personally offended that these are overpriced, but I think at this price they'll have a hard time moving.  If they come down I'll re-evaluate, but right now I'm looking for a price point of ~ BTC.4 for October delivery chips, realistically in my hands in November.
248  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BPMC Launch BF1 USB miner - probably the fastest USB miner in the World on: September 16, 2013, 02:23:17 PM
If next batch's will be cheaper, and this batch isn't selling, would it not be prudent to reduce these a little to see if you can sell them before the next batch?  October delivery chips have USB sticks promising BTC.4.  I'd pay BTC1 BTC.8 now to have one of these early.  Just saying.

Edit: did the calculations.  Even at BTC1 it's a gamble that difficulty won't continue to skyrocket for the next year.
249  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [ANN] NanoFury NF1 USB stick - GROUP BUY of BITFURY chips + US PRODUCT ASSEMBLY on: September 16, 2013, 12:01:13 AM
Even the generic, manila padded envolopes are ok for these, thats how I got my BE's shipped to me & no damage & I think the total was $3.80,shipped inside the US  Wink

up to 3 oz is $1.69 for First Class shipping.  $1.86 for 4 oz.  I bet these things are 1.5 oz, plus .5 oz for the padded envelope.  100 padded envelopes can be had on eBay for about $20.  That's about $3 for total shipping first class.

252  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: September 14, 2013, 11:00:23 AM
Geee, do you THINK that might have been an important piece of information??

At this point the only REAL information you should need is that the chips can no longer reach ROI.  Anyone not refunding is most likely doing so because of A) ignorance or B) hobbyist purposes.  Get what you can out and hope that next gen assembly goes better, or get the refund on that too and wash your hands of it.

255  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: September 13, 2013, 12:52:54 PM
I never bothered to understand pool difficulty before.  When I started out with GPUs last year, the default suggested difficulty on my account/worker page had always been 1.  When I switched to ASIC last month, it stayed at 1 because I didn't know any better but in spite of this, BFGMiner indicated diff at 13.  Reading the recent posts on here prompted me to edit my worker just now and picked 17-32 GHash/s range.   My account/worker page now shows a suggested difficulty of 16 and BFGMiner diff is also 16.  What exactly happened here and what is the significance?  Is this the right/optimum setting?

Edit:  BFGMiner now shows diff went down to 10 (I'm confused).  BTW, since I made the changes, my Rejects went up form .08% to .21%, if that is even significant.

Difficulty settings dictate what level of difficulty the miner will accept and send to the pool.  Higher difficulty means higher rejects.  Diff 16 means harder hashes, but every hash counts as 16 shares.

my refund request was rejected.

Good evening,

You have recently requested a refund for an order you have placed for Avalon ASIC chips. Unfortunately, verification of your request has failed. In order to process the refund request, a message signed using the original sending address used in the transaction is required. Please submit the message "I am hereby requesting refund of payment for my purchase of Avalon ASIC chips from forum member Steamboat" without quotes using the following format:

Bitcoin sending address used for original purchase

I sent BTC from coinbase directly. I do not see any kind of option to sign message Sad

anybody have any ideas?

Always a bad idea to send payment from online wallets that don't let you control the keys.  I don't think coinbase supports message signing.  You can maybe contact them?

I've noticed an intense drop in the beating of chests and the gnashing of teeth in this thread.

Bitsyncom, you might take note of this and realize it's better for your chi when you keep your customers informed.  Just a thought.

Only in the asic world do businesses plan on making their investment back so quickly. In the real world if your business is making money in 2 or 3 years you're doing good. This seems to be accepted in this industry, this has always fascinated me.

The problem with asics is in a few months they'll be worthless.  So you have to make back your money now or it's never.
