- Reinvest. It might be a good time to move away from 130 nm now and invest in next-gen chips. With the available amount of money, AM could develop products that would put everyone alse out of competition.

+1

Need to keep that competitive edge - this mono/oligo-poly situation will not last forever, and it would be smart to stay ahead of the curve...

I can recommend to anyone who is new to Bitcoin (like me), read *all* of friedcat's posts on this forum, from oldest to newest. He is in this for the long haul; and he knows that the game will change as new generations of hardware appear. If the trolls on this forum have noticed that AM have competition, he predicted what, who, when and why months ago, and is too capable not to have planned a response.

Agreed. And if that "planned response" requires retaining some of the revenue, then it would be most prudent to do so.

[I have joined in on the collective man-crush on friedcat - he can retain my earnings any time! Wink ]

If 1 share is actually worth about 50 MH/s - why is it they cost about 1.20 and everybody shouting they're totally undervalued Huh?

1 Avalon Miner for about 100 Btc = ca. 83 Shares =  85 GH vs. 4.15 GH....

anybody here can follow this calculation ? or is thery something i missed?

Remember to take into account:
(1) Expansion to 50+ TH/s within the next few weeks
(2) Delivery of 200TH/s in the near future
(3) Future expansions at cost of around $10k per TH/s
(4) Hardware sales, ongoing and future

Did I miss anything?

Edit: I did miss something: next generation ASICs (under development already?) - and the generation after that, and the generation after that, and so forth...

ASICMINER won't consider changing anything unless the USBs aren't selling well as-is. Just wait it out if you aren't happy with the current offering, AM knows what to do.

I wasn't making the suggestion out of discontent - I was suggesting something I believe it would hugely benefit shareholders: solve logistical bottlenecks and increase product exposure.

Obviously it's not necessary to do so at this early stage, but when scaling up it could be useful to consider...

You guys know what would be interesting for handling a bit of sales volume in the future?

BitPay, with fulfillment by Amazon: https://bitpay.com/amazon

First of all, it would relieve ASICMINER of some logistics while still getting products out en masse. Second, it would reach a wide audience. Thirdly, it would create some extremely positive press for everyone involved: ASICMINER, BitPay, Bitcoin and Amazon.

Anyway, just an idea - but quite an enticing thought, right?

Exactly. It should only be compared to existing technologies that are currently shipping. Oh wait - that's FPGAs and graphics cards!  Shocked

Yes, you can still buy/use GPU, but think about the future.
Compare them with other ASICs.

My point exactly: other ASIC manufacturers have a backlog that means your device will probably not be shipped before August - if you are lucky. Many people are willing to pay a little extra for a device that ships earlier.

Awesome product.
Unfortunately, your price point is, to be blunt, retarded.

Well, considering that a video card that makes 300 MH/s is about $150 right now (My XFX 6870 from eBay used cost me $70), I'd say it's a little hefty in the price range.  What does one of these draw?  I'm assuming about 5 or 6 watts vs a video card's 100 or so?  Big difference.

I'd like two; someone please point me in the right direction for participating in a group buy and I'm there.

You people should really stop keep justifying high prices for the new ASICs products by comparing them with old technologies.

The Block Erupter USB sticks passed all the tests and we are about to produce them in quantity.

"In quantity". I like those words.

Very many ideas thrown around here for the auction of these (possibly good, but experimental and possibly confusing to customers).

So let me throw in an idea too: fixed price 2 BTC, first come first served! Much more manageable, affordable and relatable. And a price/hash a little above what the Blades have been getting.

Works for me, I'm first in line and I will buy them all (to auction later).

So, should that be considered a binding offer? Wink

Anyway, I think there are more than enough people willing to pay that price. (Even though there are apparently many people also not willing to pay that price.)

That's going to take a while to load! Can it be found on Youtube/Vimeo/etc.?

looking good!

The best part of those pictures is all the empty space into which the operation can be expanded!

9864 GH/s!  I'm bursting with excitement Smiley

And now passed 10 TH/s! Cool

Interesting and pleasantly unexpected.

doesn't sound much different than bitbet really.

On the contrary, it is very different. This gives you FIXED odds, not parimutuel betting. The difference is huge for serious bettors.
256  Economy / Gambling / Re: The most profitable gambling sites/methodes on: April 29, 2013, 11:21:34 PM
bitfair, why don't you try to run the exchange instead of selling? From what I am seeing, there are plenty of sports bettors who use bitcoins and they would most likely appreciate it.

Thanks for the encouragement - I started out wanting to run it myself, but the last year a number of other projects have been increasingly taking up my time. I think it could be well worth-while running it myself, but other obligations limit quite dramatically the time I am able to dedicate to it.

I started out wanting to scratch my own itch, so to speak, and having seen a number of these threads, I'm sure many other bitcoiners would appreciate the service.

Anyway, since I think it would be a pretty lucrative business, if anyone would be interested in partnering rather than purchasing and accepting the main administrative responsibility, I would consider that too. Let me know! Wink
257  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any hopes of getting an Intrade type predictions market for Bitcoin? on: April 29, 2013, 10:35:27 PM
I've seen what we have so far (bets of bitcoin, and bitbet), and these offer no where near the advantages and freedom of betting as a true prediction market like Intrade have.  Is anyone working or thinking of working on something similar?

I'd love to see a political/predictions market or exchange.  It should be really easy to run, and as a user matching exchange rather than betting against the house, shouldn't even be too hard to set up.  Even right now, there's no reason sportsbooks can't start offering odds for politics and other predictions (Oscars? American Idol? Pinnacle always had those).

Look no further, you can be the owner of one: I have one for sale!

It is a betting exchange, users bet against each others at fixed odds. It is complete and ready to go, also allows user-created events (with commission-sharing).

See the sales thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191126.0
258  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 29, 2013, 10:16:53 PM
Just curious... What if this type of language was put in the next auctions?

Quote
The auction will end ****. Each valid bid will delay the end time by another hour.

Then the auction will probably never end...

That's actually how some auctions are run, no? Would at least prevent the outcries of unfairness. If the delay was more manageable, say 5-10 minutes then I don't see why not.

I have seen auctions that are run like that, and 5-10 minutes would probably let the auction finish faster than delaying one hour. But the value of mining equipment is very time-sensitive (the longer you have to wait until the auction ends, the less valuable they are and hence the less you should bid for them!), and a lot of care would need to be taken so the rules couldn't be gamed.
259  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Bitcoin Betting Exchange - Gambling site to earn Bitcoins! on: April 29, 2013, 09:27:25 PM
Very interesting. I don't have the time myself to operate such a website, but would make consistent, automated markets on it.

That reminds me: an API has been designed for it too, but has not yet been implemented.

An API would allow automated trading (arbitrage with other betting exchanges, for instance), which could build a lot of liquidity quite quickly.
260  Economy / Gambling / Re: The most profitable gambling sites/methodes on: April 29, 2013, 09:16:48 PM
There is no gambling site that is profitable, except Poker because you play against other players and not against the house. Poker is the only one with positive expected value.

If someone know another +EV game, I'd like to know.

Most gambling sites are profitable to their owners, though. Wink

On an unrelated note, I have developed a gambling website [in fact, a Betting Exchange - the awesomest type of gambling site] that I am trying to sell: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191126.0
