2401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SEC Charges 11 People in Alleged $300 Million Crypto Ponzi Scheme on: August 02, 2022, 10:11:06 AM
I almost fell victim to this Ponzi scheme.
the funny thing is that many people still fall victim to Ponzi schemes because they are well packaged and sometimes they can even deceive people that we look up to and because you look up to them we can easily get convinced when they tell us to sign up for a certain scheme with an assurance that it is not a Ponzi scheme. Always do your own research.

Can the SEC go ahead to investigate and charge the folks who are playing several roles in creating and promoting this fraudulent crypto-focused pyramid scheme now before it crashes?
I think before the SEC turns their attention to a certain scheme to be investigated they must have been flagged off a couple of times from individuals who have been defrauded and vuctims plus the amount has to be a huge sum, I don't think the SEC goes after every petty Ponzi scheme.
2402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why People Use Bitcointalk on: August 01, 2022, 10:15:25 PM
History happened here. HODL originated here. Laszlo made his infamous 10,000-BTC offer here. Brilliant minds in Bitcoin and altcoin had discussed ideas here.
In addition, being a member of this forum with so much history makes you feel like you are making history as well with your original contributions and perspectives to discussions.

Why People Always like and Use This Bitcointalk Forum.
Why not?, this answer may vary from person to person as it is a personal question that prompts self evaluation. For me, my interest is not just about crypto, it is about Bitcoin and though it may not be the only thing discussed here, it brings great comfort knowing you are amidst people with same interest as you which is bitcoin.
2403  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptocurrency exchange koinex shut down in india on: August 01, 2022, 09:37:16 PM
why is it that people are still afraid to adopt it...
Apart from the fact that the Indian government strongly discourages the use of cryptocurrency, the spread of this sort of news about a cryptocurrency exchange shutting down can still stir up fear and more skepticism in individuals who were already considering giving cryptocurrency a try regardless of the strong government opposition to it in the country.

For you a member of bitcointalk, who knows better and well informed, If you are in India, you should take it upon yourself as a duty to educate anyone you come across that is aware of this news and find it discouraging that they are better options for them in terms of an exchange if they are still interested in cryptocurrency and should not give up. Your little efforts can have a great effect, do not underestimate it.
2404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Early Adopters rich? on: August 01, 2022, 06:32:35 PM
I just wonder: are Early Adopters rich?
Whether they are rich or not now depends on the level of financial discipline and wisdom they have expressed and still have currently. More money doesn't ensure that someone becomes rich, as a matter of fact if one suddenly runs into huge money without financial wisdom and discipline, he/she is at the danger of running into debts from an unplanned lifestyle.

Early adopters have become rich if they still possess the bitcoins they purchased then when bitcoins was affordable to almost everyone.
2405  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How diversified are you with your investment, crypto aside? on: August 01, 2022, 02:37:52 PM
Any suggestions that could help change my mind?
The best investment for the now is crypto particularly since you don't have enough income yet to invest in something big that needs a huge capital and you are just starting. Investment in Land and property is another profitable investment but since you can't just yet, stick to crypto (particularly bitcoins) until you have enough money to consider real estate.
2406  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Women's Euro 2022 on: July 31, 2022, 06:50:14 PM
England: Germany 2:1
The Germans are a very strong team to play and they have better experience at the finals having gotten to that stage more than England, but I am excited that England were able to host and still win this competition making history as their first major international cup for their women's football. Their victory is a start of something new for women football in England. After the game entered extra time although the English team looked weaker in strength than the German side who looked as though they still had more strength in them, it became a matter of who wanted it more and who was going to make better use of their opportunity, Chloe Kelly's long legs saved the day and ensured that the games did not go into penalties as we were thinking that was how the game was going to be settled.

Congratulations to the lionesses on their first Euro cup and to Mead on winning the golden boot.
2407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: July 31, 2022, 06:34:49 PM
It was nice to see Mane scoring in his first official game with his new team also.
It was not just nice, but an easy and important goal to boost his confidence in the bundesliga. Bayern made no mistake signing Sadio Mane as i believe his name will become a regular name on the scoreboard and he will be a contender for the highest goal scorer in the bundesliga this coming season. He will be under close observation in the coming days when bayern play Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, VfL Bochum in their first bundesliga games to see if he has well adjusted to Bayern's style of play.
2408  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria (Naija) on: July 31, 2022, 03:02:17 PM
The earth is dying, glaciers and sea ice are melting as a result of global warming, soon the planet may become uninhabitable to live in.
You must have seen some sci-fi movies and how they depict the earth to be in like a decade more with more technology and less safer atmosphere that has been damaged by pollution, over population etc. You fit just dey look am like wayo film, but the truth na say dem dey use style dey show us how dem dey see say the world go be with all the doings currently...Na all this kind things Elon Musk dun consider nai make am am dey quick quick dey talk about making another planet habitable.

If conscious efforts are not made to slow down the destruction of our atmosphere and environment by us all, the predictions from those sci-fi movies may soon be our reality, though i doubt many of us may be alive to witness it, except our kids.
2409  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 31, 2022, 01:07:31 PM
Amanda Nunes fought really well this time and the only doubt i had in this fight was she changed her team and started her own gym and i was not sure about her preparations and her wrestling was on point in this fight
She has always said that she wanted to open up her own gym where she could feel safer and give herself a chance more to develop she saw the need to quickly do it immediately after her last fight and you can see the tremendous effect it had on her, it gets better for her from here on. In the fight she maintained composure and made targeted strikes from her Powerful right hand to stop Pena from her rushing attacks, her victory was very convincing, she cleared everyone's doubt that her last fight may have made people develop about her.

Pena on the other hand, was optimistic throughout the fight and kept getting back up which is a commendable trait every fighter should possess. She was lucky that Nunez didn't want inflict more damage and wasn't all over her as she was to her, else she could have sustained more injury than just the cuts on her head.
2410  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining in a country with power challenges. on: July 31, 2022, 08:16:31 AM
You have posed a very vague question. Outages how often? How good is the power when it is on?
Sorry I should have been more specific, the power outages are often, and when the power is on, it is typically around 220v but sometimes fluctuates and may fall below that.

If power outages are a very frequent thing then you need to get power that is not tied to your grid. eg solar, wind, small scale hydro etc.
A small scale hydro is not plausible to me, Wind? It is not windy around where I reside so it may be a futile effort to want to harness the power of the wind. I just considered the generators powered by PMS or diesel but that will not be economical. So the best options for me i guess according to my location is Solar, and Gas powered generators.

Miners MUST have a stable incoming voltage typically between 208-240VAC. Prolonged operation below or above that range will quickly kill the miners.
Thank you for spelling out the power requirements.

-Develop consistency; as a new forum member it is expected that you post regularly say even one post a day and slowly build up the number from there. Posting occasionally like this week and then nobody sees you for like 2 weeks and then you come back in 3 weeks time doesn't speak well of you.

-As a newbie you should a more for visibility so going to post in threads with over Eight pages of response already is pointless (with the exception of some mega threads), A new forum member should ensure that he is always among the first say 50 users here to share opinions on topics constructively.

It goes on but I will love to give the more experienced users here the opportunity to air their opinions and share their tips, Please add your contribution as a guide to new members
2412  Economy / Economics / Re: Henan Bank decides to use citizens money for investment on: July 31, 2022, 07:17:48 AM
The bank did not really use the money for any profitable investment but it is generally believed that the officials engaged in some corrupt practice.
I suspect more of corrupt practices than failed investments because it is normal and general knowledge that these banks use our money for investment purposes most times forex trading.

Currently, the Chinese government is investigating the officials of the bank and depositors have started receiving their money back.
It is a good response from the Chinese government quickly responding to refunding citizens money because money issues are very delicate like I would always say. The Chinese government frowns heavily at corruption and the bank officials if found guilty will pay a heavy penalty for it.

Regardless of the fact that the Chinese government is not responding to refund in people's money this incidence country boots do the arguments the need for you to be your own bank and exercise more of financial independence. Cryptocurrency is the future!

What is the possibility of becoming a successful miner or the chances of success for a miner in a country that still experiences power outages?

Please suggest any and all possible solutions to this challenge for a bitcoiner interested in giving mining a trial in a country that still experience power outages?
2414  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: How can I successfully organize a Bitcoin workshop on: July 30, 2022, 07:02:28 PM
Before you get any wrong conceptions, No I am not launching another scam.
Not at all, so far as you are asking no one to invest or pay money for the first worskshop, many people will be interested in being a part of it.

If you do not have sufficient capital to get a space maybe a hall to accommodate people that will be interested, you can choose to leverage on technology as well and hold your workshop or seminar or whatever you like to call it online (A closed group on telegram maybe).

After making that decision on the venue at the offline or online the next thing is to search for another speaker that will assist you. Someone who is particularly knowledgeable in bitcoin as well.

Pick a date that is not too close, so you can have enough time for the next thing which is publicity.

Invest heavily in publicity because publicity is what will determine if your workshop will will turn out successful or not. evaluate the best way to reach out to people around you and leverage on it because you need people to come.

2415  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: July 30, 2022, 06:11:48 PM
I saw Nunez playing really well and he created some chances and I saw Klopp smiling brightly because of Nunez's performance, and I didn't see Haaland playing well.
The comparison is definitely between the two of them in the game and Nunez who was criticized before the game and had a lesser playing time had an instant effect on the Liverpool side. He created the opportunity for a penalty and scored a goal which is a good way to head into the premier League as an attacker for a big side like Liverpool. Congratulations Liverpool on winning the community shield after 16years but the team still has to work hard this season because the void left by Sadio Mane's departure can still be seen as Diaz struggled to fill it up.

2416  Other / Off-topic / Re: Myths, Superstitions, and Legends about Playing Cards on: July 30, 2022, 03:24:50 PM
After reading it, I would like to know what you have heard about playing cards.
I have always played cards innocently without any knowledge of superstitions.

1. Walk three times around the playing table for good luck
I will try this the next time I play cards with my friends 😂 although I think they will have the impression that I am just trying to see the cards they have.

2. It is bad to sing, whistle, or drop cards while playing
3. Avoid crossing your legs when playing
I think this superstition was fashioned to ensure that people stay serious while playing and not take a relaxed position.

9. The Left Hand Curse
A lot has been said about left-handed people in many cultures I think they are all superstitious and unfounded. People say these things probably because the be left-handed is a deviation from the norm and regular which is right handedness.

Generally all these things just like any other superstition work only when you believe them if you don't believe them they won't work with you.

2417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I Disliked Bitcoin on: July 30, 2022, 02:20:31 PM
The lesson learned was that it is better to move closer to what is new to us than to be condemning it from afar.
This is a valuable lesson and one people who possess the bad character of hasty condemnation/criticism without first understanding what it is they are criticizing should learn from. IMO people who normally act in such manner do it out of ignorance and always want to get people to share their opinions with them. If you happen to meet some of these individuals and don't have a mind of your own, your opinions on certain things can be affected.

I imagine how many persons whom OP may have unknowingly during his time of ignorance turned into dislikers of bitcoin as well from his open condemnation. I hope they get to see the light as you have.
2418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not your key not your coin, your bitcoins on exchanges are not insured on: July 29, 2022, 10:20:01 PM
this is just to notify people again that they should never leave their coins on exchanges.
Some people in crypto may make the mistake of thinking that an exchange is a safe place for keeping their cryptocurrencies because some offer wallet services and they have big names, so they write off the importance of non-custodial wallets. While some who may be new to crypto may not really know the difference between a wallet and an exchange, hence they neglect it. For the first set of persons, don't trust an exchange simply because they have a big fan base and you think nothing can happen to them...your assumptions may cost you your crypto. Always make use of non-custodial wallets!
2419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: July 29, 2022, 09:40:54 PM
For example, people have been criticizing Nunez's performance in friendlies too much. However people shouldn't forget that they are just unofficial games that don't mean a lot.
The first real test for both Nunez & Erling Haaland in a real competitive game will be there community shield game against each other that is Manchester city and Liverpool. The game tomorrow will serve as the first litmus for both teams as they head into the start of the premier League as strong contenders to win it again. Both players will be available for the game, it will be interesting to know which of them as well as other new signings to both clubs that have adjusted quickly or better to premier League football.

Manchester city seem to be having some injury challenges already as Laporte will not start with them for a while when the season begins, Liverpool will also be without Diogo Jota.
2420  Economy / Economics / Re: How much food can you store for survival?3 on: July 29, 2022, 08:45:56 PM
People's answer will vary from person to person depending on their location and how things are, I will give an answer based on my location and the current situation of things. To survive for a long time in Nigeria there are some essentials that you must consider, we usually have personal boreholes and do not depend on the government for water supply as well as gas for cooking, Electricity has never been constant so PMS in drums(if possible) is a must have to power your borehole most importantly first. If you plan surviving for a long time keeping foodstuffs that need refrigerating or be kept frozen may be a bad idea as it will mean that you PMS is at the risk of finishing faster. Keeping grains, cereals, tubers and lots of processed products plus enough of the things needed for the grains to be edible is what is adviced.

I say this having experienced a very serious total lockdown for over twenty five days alone on my own.
