2401  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bitfury is looking for alpha-testers of first chips! FREE MONEY HERE! on: March 19, 2014, 05:42:29 PM
Ok, building my first diyer and I don't wanna rune them. So say in a gas or electric oven for 24 hrs or what's best?

Not sure what industry uses. I'd just use what ya got. Flux will clean any oxidation when soldered

I would use an electric over or small toaster over over a gas oven. better temperature control and no open flame (i might be wrong though, is a gas oven open flame?)

Let's keep this ball of questions rolling. Here's what I've seen so far (feel free to add):

  • With "mining gear" do you mean VMC built miners? If so, who's producing the chips?
  • How much did you pay for that 100 Th/s and how much is the power bill going to be?
  • How much will the 2nd 100 Th/s cost?
  • What is expected profit from this?
  • When can we trade?

ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS, PLUS:

WHY DID YOU NOT TAKE @ MINUTES OF YOUR DAY TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE?

it seems that once again your weekly news is that it will be 2 more weeks before there is proof.

Ken, we have been waiting on chips since the end of last year. You have kept us largely in the dark as our competition has been ramping up. Remember that you started ACTM so that you could provide a quicker solution to bitcoin mining? Is this going to happen? Or is all of the money going to drain out of this company before it does? Ken, get your act together. Get help where you need help to get this project completed promptly, or liquidate the public shares. Get people involved that have a passion for bitcoin mining and pay them with the company's half of the shares. I know that there have been a lot of mishaps and things out of your control. That's partly how the bitcoin world is right now, everything moves so fast. Either you can handle the task at hand in this environment and provide a return to the investors or you cannot. Do you have what it takes? If not, throw in the towel. If so, get us something to show for all this time and money.

Well written, so do I have what it takes you ask, well ask again in about 14 days.
its been 12 days now and all i see is words. the last time a photo was posted it was of a workdesk with a dissassembled PC case

Guess you forgot to include me in he review panel?  Cry

Sorry, the amount of initial samples was very limited, and we debated quite hard to decide on the reviewers.

That said, if these test out as well as they look and claim, you would be the first company to be competitively priced against bitmain (The S2 is still a slightly better price/GH, but is a lot more than 1U rackmount!)

Thanks, having a flat U1/U2 profile was one of the main design goals.

haha dont take it hard, dogie has done some seriously good reviews and guides! I just love getting my hands on first-batch equipment when i can, but spent my BTC on the antminer S2 already

How thew heck are you guys powering so many ants at homes? I have 15a 120v which is about 1800 a circuit. Im throwing breakers right and left...

if you are popping breakers that is REALLY dangerous. Electrical rules state you should keep loads at <80% of the rated capacity, or ~1500W per 15A circuit.

I was using 3 different 15A circuits for a while - just upgraded to some heft 213V, 30A circuits in order to expand
2406  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntFarm S1 Project S2 + S3 on: March 18, 2014, 09:04:57 PM
what is the best for max number of units on OC settings

English please, and there's already about 20 Antminer threads Tongue

What is the best method for powering such large amount of Ants from 1 single PSU on OC setting.

Yeah and I'm only adding to them  Tongue But this is about AntFarm Smiley

Well the best PSU would be a 10kW power supply from a military aplication. Next to that is a 2kW server PSU. You will have trouble finding a server PSU over 1000W though.

in other words - your question makes no sense. Do the research, the information is posted dozens or hundreds of times in other threads

no clue WTF avalon is up to the past few days, but they had a timer for the gen3 announcement that was supposed to end last night around 11pm, then sudenly jumped to add 21hrs, and then this morning said 2 days, 9 hours. now the page is as red and cracked out as our mayor (Rob Ford of Toronto)

what. the. heck....?

"Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Vestibulum tortor quam, feugiat vitae, ultricies eget, tempor sit amet, ante. Donec eu libero sit amet quam egestas semper. Aenean ultricies mi vitae est. Mauris placerat eleifend leo."

not sure who to blame for the translation, google or avalo
2408  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 18, 2014, 04:35:08 PM
Draws 1000 watts from the wall Assuming 90% is actually wattage used with gold psu, that's only 900 watts.

exactly. however, 90% draw is pretty intense for 24/7.  I beleive Bitmain is capable of knowing/understanding this so that they either use a quality enermax PSU or actually draw closer to 850W during normal operation. Its known the chips can achieve as low as 0.68J/GH (J=W) so its quite possible they are tuned to draw the ideal 80% of the psu rating.

we will know in 2 weeks or less. until then, its all just conjecture and imagination. The written specs dont give much info and are little more then an approximate placeholder.
2409  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: March 18, 2014, 02:37:07 PM
This announcement has to be we are using Avalon or AM chips. Look at the Avalon countdown. http://avalon-asics.com/

Ken is expected to release an announcement roughly 24 hours after that ends. Maybe a coincidence but the timing does align. I really doubt we have our own chips given past results.

Hmm perhaps we are still pursuing 28mm or whatever it is, but Ken has struck a massive deal with Avalon in the meantime (so we can start hashing) ?

That countdown was scheduled to end last night about 12 hours ago, then it refreshed to add 24hrs.  now it says 2 days, 9 hours.

avalon clearly isnt ready with thier new gen

Building a bigger, better anthill now that the weather is getting warm and I cant fit anything else on my limited apartment circuits.

You can see a before-and-after: went from a storage area in the back of an office to what will become a high-capacity rack.

2x L6-30 circuits (213V, 30A each) - Currently using an unmetered PDU with C13 outlets
1x L21-20 circuit (120V, 20A,20A,20A) - Currently using a metered PDU with L5-20 outlets
1x 5-20 circuit with duplex outlet

approximately 15kW of power available under 80% rule of thumb, with about 4kW of equipment once I move a few more things in, a bunch more antminers showing up thursday, and leaving lots of room to grow. Not sure what I will hit first - power limits or cooling limits (industrial 600V A/C)

There is a 1200W Corsair PSU, plus 3x 835W server power supplies wired up and ready to go. All of them will use 213V power for a bit better efficiency

What is the hardware used there?

Right now, just 4 antminers (2 per crate, sitting atop a third empty crate), just to the left of the shelving. I have 8 more antminers going in on wednesday/thursday, and a Batch 2 S2 ordered for april 10

get some liquid elecetrical tape - it works great for sealing off those exposed solder connections from the environment or shorts
2412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 18, 2014, 03:31:04 AM
I know it's a bit early for this, but do you guys think they should make like a s1.5 or s1 revision 2 so it would be 200 gh/s 200 watts?Technically its feasible as basically your cutting a s2 into fifths. Think that would sell like hot cakes Cheesy

there is no reason to. The S1 was 4.75BTC when it came out, with a bitcoin price higher than it is now. It is now only 1/5th of that. In 6 months from now the S2 will cost <2BTC

From my POV, bigger is better. less wires, more cost effective.
2413  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: IN STOCK AND SHIPPING - OneStringMiner boards on: March 18, 2014, 03:08:32 AM

Received mine, and I gotta say that these are awesome. Can you explain to me again the black magic used to get gen3 performance out of a gen2 chip which has been out for many months? Why hasn't everyone been running Bitfury chips on crazy-mega-power saving mode all along? Heck, even the board is simpler than most designs -- and thus, presumably, with fewer ways to fail.

I am somewhat floored by the gloriousness.

just needs to be scaled up and it would make for some mean, cheap 1TH machines.

Punin is starting to sell off Bitfury 6U 2.5TH/3kW miners now (overpriced) so they must be getting into gen2 heavily
2414  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 18, 2014, 02:29:54 AM
I want a Bitmain Tshirt Sad Sad Sad.  HOW TO GET?!

For the price, they should just ship us one with our orders.

That would be an amazing promotional value for only a few bucks each.

that said, it would probably end up with goodwill or some guys insane bitcoin memorabilia collection

So I placed an order for 3 today and sent payment immediately. The website shows unpaid and expired for the order. How do I get assistance for this?

block chain is fucked up you need to wait it out

Sorry I'm a noob - can you help me understand why blockchain.info being down has anything to do with my order status on bitmaintech.com? Does bitmaintech.com solely rely on blockchain.info for BTC transaction confirmations?

Bitmain uses the blockchain API. So yes.
I just moved coins in and cash out of Coinbase.com during the blockchain outage. Didn't seem to effect it. Has anyone cashed out of a mining pool to wallet during this outage?

I dont think you understand. Blockchain.info is down, which is simply the best/most convenient site for gathering info from the actual blockchain (which is P2P hosted).  Bitmain's site tracks payments using blockchain.info because it one of the cleaner interfaces / API so they are not able to see any info while the site is under maintenance. The TX still took place and is in the actual blockchain

^the design is really nice, but what the heck is with the fan setup? you have 3 exhaust fans that are trying to handle the airflow of 6 big delta fans (that are pointed at eachother on top of that?)

The use of the fuse board is neat - I have a few of those with me now but didnt see much benefit in useing them, espescially considering any risk of the open terminals being near so much metal and wiring. (might be worth putting plastic tips on the unused terminals?)

The exhaust fans simply redirect the air up and out, they are handling the flow well. They are static at full speed while the antMiner fans vary as need be. The pics with "open" tips was temporary as all 36 spots are utilized in final assembly. This unit is heading for co-location in the morning, but run steady @ 48C in a lab with an ambient temp of 90F. I know NOT happy rack has been delayed, but all will be happy in the morning.

So are you planning to occupy 1-2U of rackspace overhead to get that air out? Im picturing a server rack as best as I can, and generally the airflow is designed to either go out the backside or to go out the sides. If you stacked several of your units, there would be a pretty insane temperature gradient with all the airflow pointed vertically
2417  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Server PSU for Antminer S1, step by step guide. on: March 17, 2014, 10:32:35 PM
Hi all,
as I am new here I wont try to be the smart guy , I just only like to help the bitcoin community and give ideas for easier operation of your miners as also to save money.
As you know everything is so expensive related to it out there.

I will try to show you bellow how to make a PSU for your Antminer S1.

The cheapest  server PSU that could do the job for the S1s' is the : Delta DPS-835AB, Artesyn 7001138-Y000, IBM x3650 3655 835W (12.1V 69A) , which I bought (and can still buy ) for less than 10$ each on eBay.
It is a stable 12V supplier and can handle two S1s' as they both barely reach 62A , overclocked.

Now , lift the board carefully, but don't  break it!  Put a plastic piece, like an insulating tape, so as to make enough space for working with the soldering unit.

Turn the unit as in the picture and try to solder the two pins as in the picture.

Be careful not to solder and connect any other pins apart from those two! It is a little tricky, but patience can do the job.

What I do, to save the time and annoyance of opening up and unmounting the PCB from the case:

PS-ON sense is the 3rd and 4th pins on the bottom row. Rather than solder thier traces together, I grab a small jeweller's flathead and pry the pins up (they are seated in the plastic by thier tips) so that they pop free. I then bend them slightly towards eachother and solder them together.

Same result, but instead of spending 10 minutes dissassembling and reassembling the PSU to access the traces, it can be done in about 1 minute so that you can easily solder the pins together
2418  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 1.11 BTC for 180GH/s on: March 17, 2014, 10:21:28 PM
Do the cougar fans come with the fixation screws required, or do they need to be purchased separately ?
If so can you share the length/size of these screws ?

Thanks

No they dont have. You need +30mm screws. You need 1 spacer bolt or something or the cougars go too deep and fan will hit the frame.
Easy assembly but you need 2 screws & bolts for each fan. Maybe 4... i was lazy. Also my bolts were too long for top left corner. Anything longer than 40mm will hit 1 capacitor.

Thank you, just to clarify, will 30mm be insufficient, do i need more than 30mm screws

Also is anybody able to comment on the screw diameter and pitch required ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Thread_Standard

Would these screws, for example, work with a space nut ? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=83_388&products_id=25486

Antminer with heat sinks and Cougar fan applied.
32mm 6-32 UNC screws with a spacer bolt work perfectly

I am seeing about 300rpm slower fan speed, and about 3 degrees cooler at 400MHz

All the cougar fans I have bought included rubber grommets fro mounting that work just fine with the antminer. the older antminers seem to have a smaller hole size though, so pulling the mounts through may require a pair of pliers and a solid tug. no issue with the fan blades contacting any of the heatsink bolts
2419  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: March 17, 2014, 10:18:00 PM

Yeah on 1x 6-20R, I can pull about ~3100w before I run into breaker problems, so probably 2 75% loaded DPS2000s are the max.

That seems a bit low for a 6-20. Assuming 208V*20A*80% = 3328W should be safe following the UL rule-of-thumb. The breaker really shouldn't be tripping until it goes over 4000W though, unless its a lower-rated 15A breaker which doesnt make much sense
