Who said he left? He probably is around under a different name and probably has contact with some devs once a while. It's strongly unlikely for him to just leave and forget about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is supposed to be a global payment system and ready for big amount of transactions, you are basically saying 'i don't want bitcoin to succeed' gtfo man.

So is XT going to be a separate Crypto and will its price start at 0 or how should we see it? I guess there will be BTC/XT parity?
|
|

$10.42 and ignored it completely, bought later at $90

So wait at what price will XT start at 0? and will the specifications be just like Bitcoin apart from its block size?

This is what free open-source software is about, you choose what code to run, this kind of stuff was predicted from the beginning and it's one of the properties why bitcoin is so resilient and some particular government cannot push its own code. Yes of course we are not obliged to use the new client, I am only curious if I can move coin between the '2' chain but I do not think it will be possible.
You cannot move coins between the two chains but you'll have twice the coins, at least for the period of time the two chains are live, eventually one will die, I assume. Oh thanks, finally I have understand all the question. If Gavin will fork and upload the new client we will basically still have or better own the same bitcoin in the two chains, so if I will be lucky we can sell the coins to someone -not an exchange- and buy more btc (and especially hope to be in the right chain). Thanks again for the reply. Correct, for a brief period of time, before it's clear which one is the winning chain, one can sell the same coins twice. Bear in mind this may not be very ethical. To sell the same coin twice one needs a bitcoin client for both chains right? In both clients one will have the same amount of bitcoin or how should i see this?

I would tread cautiously if I was getting the attention of big financial organisations. Its a tightrope act I'm guessing staying on the right side of regulation at the same time not annoying the crypto currency community that are suspicious of banks involvement. I wonder why banks are involved anyway, to copy ideas or to just try to control what they can't easily control? This kind of banks involvement looks pretty positive, they are open to technologies such a GetGems. Nonetheless i hope for GetGems to benefit from such cooperation aswell.

Satoshi should come out and raise his opinion regarding this imo, only he can convince everyone whats the right thing to do.
No, everyone is free to choose which client use - chain follow... it will not be 'fair' to follow satoshi's opinion. This will only divide the community in half and it will be bad for the price aswell, people from both chains will fud each other lol, popcorn worthy for sure.

Either way it's not good for bitcoin, meaning if hard fork happens there will be 2 bitcoins and different prices with a high chance the price of bitcoin to go down and if gavin leaves to bitcoin xt its also not a good news for bitcoin, actually i just sold some of my btc and some i'm holding just in case.

I think the majority will convert to chain B, because it can handle more transactions. I'm wondering if chain A starts to fade how low its price will go in case there would be a trading pair between the 2 chains.

Bitcoin/Gavincoin pair will be ground zero and epic cinema. Better order tons of popcorn.
Wouldn't chain A (Bitcoin) and chain B (Gavincoin) have the same price? At first minute after fork yes, but as soon trading Gavincoin vs Bitcoin starts the price will start to differ. AND there would suddenly be two Bitcoins for every one Bitcoin that exists now. I don't see how this couldn't hurt the cap of both coins. I personally think they will both crash and burn pretty fast. You might have a point, whats to stop an exchange to offer Gavincoin or Chain B coin or whatever against Bitcoin, this will be interesting. I want to know if the price will tank after the fork or not, i might sell some for fiat/alts.

and GetGems is ? It's an instant messenger with bitcoin and gems currencies build in where you can send money as easy as sending a text message. It also shares income with active users. It's build around a reward value program where users get paid for introducing users to the network, each of them have a unique url which they can share and their username will be pre-filled upon installation, users are going to get paid for their activity like messaging, making transactions etc., they get paid on the amount of Gems they hold in their account. Although the excitement of this app is its potential to start the "attention economy". Where advertisers must pay the user directly for their attention, rather than the gatekeepers of a social network, like FB or Google. I don't know if such an economy can work, or if GetGems are the ones to make it happen, but I definitely want to participate in the experiment! It's an innovative feature and the first Crypto related app that is going to do this. "We soon see many billions of people sending bitcoin everyday as easily as they currently send a text message." - Lawrence H. Summers, Secretary of the Treasury under President Bill Clinton Interesting approach to advertising. Deserves ones attention imo. If they can add the option to make instant conversion within the app like how Shapeshift is doing it would be great. The Gems you earn within the app you can swap immidiatly to Bitcoin or you can swap Bitcoin to Gems to buy advertisement models. This would shut down the hassle of going through exchanges and only necessary if you need fiat.

I got some of my friends into bitcoin through GetGems app, an instant messenger+bitcoin wallet which shares income with active users, im chatting with my gf now more on GetGems then on WhatsApp.

@ Daniel, do you think it's possible to add a feature like Shapeshift into GetGems where users can swap Gems to Bitcoin and Bitcoin to Gems? Maybe in cooperation with shapeshift themselves? I think this would be a powerful feature. You can swap Bitcoin to Gems for buying ads and Gems to Bitcoin for other needs.
I think this would be a useful feature would like to know aswell about the possibilities. Surely just knowing the shape shift site exists for now? I mean a simple link to the shape shift page would in theory make everything user friendly. It would be good to include it in the app (though might clutter it) but that seems like a feature for further down the line once we get other things in place? I don't understand coding, but does this show shape shift is open source? Their whole website seems to suggest they want others to integrate their system on your wallet/site etc. https://shapeshift.io/api.html#shift-conduithttps://shapeshift.io/affiliate.html"The ShapeShift API gives developers a multitude of ways to integrate our instant altcoin exchange services into wallets, websites and much more. For those developers looking for an partner/commission opportunity, Shapeshift now offers our affiliate program. Below, you may sign-up for affiliate order-tracking keys so that ShapeShift can track volume associated with your API calls." It seems possible, i think this feature combined into a mobile app like GetGems will be pretty handy. I'm not coder aswell but would be nice if the team looks into it. Also i noticed Erik voorhees is Shapeshifts CEO, he joined one of the GetGems groups a while ago in the app. It doesn't necessarily have to be Shapeshift but such platform is an example of what i mean buy easy coin conversion instead of people doing the hassle of making accounts on exchanges on different websites. I think this idea would attract many people inside the Crypto place aswell since majority of them just wants Bitcoin as an exit which GetGems would provide in a easy way in a simple app, this would mean that these people would need to use GetGems more often and be pretty active to earn Gems through rewards which is in it's favour of GetGems and of course there are others that would swap Bitcoin to Gems to advertise and other useful stuff.

Now this is what i'm talking about when i mention introducing this app outside the Crypto community, as you see for those who are not familiar with this wonderful technology this app is pretty amazing. Just saw their website and it seems pretty big http://www.citimobilechallenge.com/index.phpThey haven't even seen the main feature of this app yet. A good start for this app and hopefully this is the beginning of a bright feature of GetGems and also more partnerships and recognition like these. “We are excited to be a part of the next phase in the Citi Mobile Challenge and look forward to continuing our development with the financial sector leadership of Citi.” said GetGems CEO. Nice to see this kind of progress. On a side note i actually like the Gems logo on that banner, well done GetGems.

Demo Day Recap: 5 Boost VC Bitcoin Startups on the RiseReveal "Coin-first is the new mobile-first." Such was the opening salvo of Reveal CEO Matt Ivester's enthusiastic introduction to Reveal, a social networking company billed as the first to use its own integrated cryptocurrency, revealcoin, which is an asset on the Stellar network. The founder of college gossip website JuicyCampus, Ivester had reason to be confident at the event, having already closed the majority of its seed funding from investors including Resolute Ventures and Bitcoin Opportunity Corp. While light on technical details, the pitch seems telling of the company's strategy to come. Reveal has so far sought to target everyday teenagers outside the bitcoin community while courting unidentified "social media celebrities" to the service. "We believe that users should share in the value they help create," Ivester said. "We can do things that no other social network can. We can create true community ownership, we can directly incentivize viral growth." Designed for quick sharing, Reveal allows users to design two-layer messages, the first of which can be peeled away to reveal a picture or drawing. Reveal aims to monetize through a similar strategy as the messaging service GetGems, mandating advertisers on the network pay with revealcoin. Users can in turn earn revealcoin for promoting the network, interacting with ads or by reading priority messages from other users. "We can solve spam, access and messaging," Ivester said. "Eventually we can be the way millions of teens are introduced to cryptocurrency." Reveal is currently operating in beta with an eye to launch this fall. Complete article here http://www.coindesk.com/boost-vc-tribe-5-demo-day I'm really curious about such monetising system like GetGems or Reveal is doing, it's a new innovation in the crypto and instant messaging space and the main excitement of this app, i don't know how it will pan out but i definitely want to participate in the experiment.
