2441  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 05:20:16 PM
Hey all.  So just to confirm.  Would it just be fine right now if i open electrum 3.0.5 as is and then try to send the remaining btc i have in my wallet to somewhere else?  But if i get that message, then i close it.  Then i close electrum.  Then go to the official electrum site and download electrum?

Right now i just want to get any btc i have in electrum out of it and do not want to use it until later on when there is very little concerns on it.

Also the message that does pop up if it gives you that message, is it a link where if you click on it, it automatically downloads it?  So if you click on it by accident, could you still immediately cancel the download or once you click on that link, that is it?  Or do you have to download it fully and also go through the installation process?
2442  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 05:13:39 AM
You say if i try to send the btc and the server im using is compromised, then yes i would get that message to update electrum.  But i also have the option to x the message right and cancel the transaction?  But most likely the outcome is when i try to send btc now, i won't get the message?

2443  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 05:11:57 AM
How do i verify the pgp signature is legit before i download it?  Do i need to right click it or what do i need to do to make sure the link is legit?  Again this is complicated for someone like me that isn't that computer savy.  Though using electrum would be considered tech savy for most users.

Well if i manually type in the website in my address bar on chrome

www.electrum.org

And then click enter... that is still not safe?  When i type in electrum on google, i see an electrum.org link on the first one showing and am sure that is the legit one as i have clicked on that link before a while back when i did an update.

Thanks.

2444  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 03:03:50 AM
Well i dont know how to do the verification etc.  Someone mention this and this is confusing for someone that is not computer savy.

But has there been any case of anyone that has downloaded electrum from the official www.electrum.org site and had an issue?
2445  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 11, 2019, 12:59:14 AM
thanks for that information.  So if there is that fake update message, you can close it just like that by x'ing it?

okay so just to confirm this.  No one here has heard of anyone that went to the real electrum website www.electrum.org and downloaded the program and it being malicious?  I thought i was pretty sure someone mentioned this was a case with a few others?

2446  Bitcoin / Electrum / Transferring BTC from Electrum That Has Not Been Updated? on: February 10, 2019, 08:54:24 PM
I am using electrum 3.0.5.  I still have some amount of btc there as i previously transferred it to a hardware wallet.  I have not tried to open my electrum wallet on my windows laptop for a while after hearing people talk about all the issues with the update and those scams going on.

1.  First off, if i open my electrum wallet now, will it ask me to update to the newest version via a message?  Or it only will show me this message if i try to send btc?  Or i might not even get this message and i could send the btc?  The other thing is if you do receive this message, i assume you can close that message as say no or x it out?  Is it clicking no or closing the message by x'ing it out?

At the moment, I want to send the btc i have in my electrum to my hardware wallet.  Thus that way, i don't want to use the electrum wallet anymore at least for now.  But i have not opened the program once due to all the issues with electrum.  What is the best method for me to do this right now?

2.  Should i just go to www.electrum.org and download the newest up to date electrum on the website?  As long as you don't download electrum from github or those other links, are you fine?  Someone mentioned that as long as you download it from the official site... you are fine.  Is this true or false?  Because i think i recalled reading that the hacker posted the fake link on their site for a short duration where anyone that downloaded electrum from the official site downloaded that malicious file?  Or is this not true?

2447  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Everyone loses money when the market is down right? on: February 10, 2019, 07:17:59 PM
Okay let me use an example.  A person has 5000 usd he can use to invest.  Right now the altcoins prices has dropping.  So whether he buys now or waits a bit... but let say all the coins are dropping in price almost single day for the next month or so.  If that is the case, how does that investor even make money?  Such as say he owns no coins at the moment and has 5k usd right now.  And he is deciding when to buy.  But let say he buys 5k worth right now.  He watches the markets half the day at least... the price never hits above the price he bought.  It keeps going down.  Its like this for a week or longer and keeps going down.  Doesn't that mean its impossible for this investor to make money then?  The only way i can think of would be if they monitor the price 24/7 and say for a few minutes, the price did go up say for a short time, then he sell it immediately.  But besides that, there is no way right?

But can't you short it where okay if it goes down, you make money?  Or that only applies to stocks?
2448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins That Do Not Depend on BTC Price? on: February 10, 2019, 07:08:30 PM
What about binance?  Seems to only increase and when btc has went down?
2449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I hear that Monero has a new competitor in town on: February 10, 2019, 07:07:41 PM
What about mcafee and the privacy coins he talks about?
2450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Questions to BTC Holders 2011 And Before on: February 10, 2019, 07:07:08 PM
So basically back then lot of ppl did have 100s and 1000s of btc and traded it and sent it like it was nothing then right?  But when btc was say 10 cent or less... i assume that was when less ppl got involved... but once it was 1 dollar... more ppl looked into it right?

Also was it pretty easy to sell btc back then?  So mount gox ppl talk about... So for example.  Say you bought btc at 10 cent each.  Price went up to 1 dollar.  You want to sell all the btc.  You sell it at mount gox exchange right and when you do... you get a usd amount in your account?  Then if you want to send that money to your us bank account... you did an ach transfer or wire transfer?  If so, what were the costs?  Thus its similar to like coinbase now etc?  Or was it a bit different?

2451  Economy / Exchanges / Re: HitBTC.com - The most advanced cryptocurrency exchange on: February 10, 2019, 07:01:52 PM
Thoughts on hitbtc now?  Are they reliable?  A while back ppl said they are not.
2452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Binance: $BNB The Future of Exchanges. on: February 10, 2019, 07:01:24 PM
Does anyone think binance coin is very stable?  Is it a good buy right now?  Seems to keep going up and stay steady while other coins are going up but not that much.
2453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sprouting Bitbean is 10X more profitable than mining on: February 10, 2019, 07:00:28 PM
Im bit confused here.  So if you have beancash, you could store it in a wallet to get more beancash?  Something similar to like waves where they give out rewards etc?

Also thoughts on beancash?  I bought a while back and the price has dropped huge already.
2454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Questions to BTC Holders 2011 And Before on: January 28, 2019, 07:50:58 PM
Interesting times Smiley

On your questions:

1. It was much more harder than now. The only place I knew for buying was MtGox but I only used it for selling and trading as I was mining mine coins as funny experiment.

2. MtGox and the Core wallet. Back then the chain was relatively small and I had it on few computers.

3. It was easy if you are going to mine it yourself. I think most people was getting their coins from mining and then trying to do other stuff out of curiosity.

Okay so when people did mining, how much did that cost?  So basically it was creating btc with your computer?  So back then if you wanted to make 1 btc, how much would it cost?  So it was electricity cost?  Like if you wanted to make 100 btc, how long that took and how much did it cost you in terms of electricity?

So back then, people were just giving btc as in buying/sell them like it was nothing back then?  If that is the case, wouldn't that mean ppl would be trading or selling like 100 btc each time as if its nothing if it was like 0.01 or so?  Once btc hit 1 dollar, did ppl still treat it like it was nothing?  I assume once it hit a certain price, say 10 dollars, thats when many ppl started taking it seriously?  Im trying to imagine when it was like 10 cents and ppl pay like 200 btc to buy something like it was nothing.
2455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Questions to BTC Holders 2011 And Before on: January 25, 2019, 05:56:39 AM
So with Mtgox, you mean send funds from paypal to mtgox?  Like if you are making a purchase similar to ebay purchase?

What do you mean liberty reserve and dwolla?

So was it pretty easy to buy btc back then based on what you described?  Because if its paypal, that seems simple.  But do most ppl just keep the btc in mtgox back then?  Or did they have their own wallet?  So if you wanted to sell btc, you could do it via mtgox and get paid via paypal similar to how you pay for it?

2458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Who sold Bitcoin Gold At Close To All Time High? on: January 24, 2019, 08:44:07 PM
Btc gold i believe at the highest peak hit like 450 dollars.  Of course you got 1 for everyone btc you owned.  I still have not claimed btc gold yet as in do the process with my wallet.  Now its worth like 10 dollars.  Now this is like saying you didn't sell btc or any altcoin at the highest price.  But the thing here is btc gold was given to you for every btc you owned.  So because of that, im frustrated.  After bitcoin gold came out, i recalled lot of ppl said it would drop in price a lot and many ppl sold it at the 200-300 dollar price when it was out.  At the all time high, it was 450 which is a lot.

Anyone here never claimed their btc gold?  Only reason why i didn't claim it or even say i claimed it and wouldn't sell it because i thought it would go high just like btc cash.  But most ppl back then were wrong when btc price only went up etc.

2459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Questions to BTC Holders 2011 And Before on: January 24, 2019, 08:34:33 PM
I heard about btc in 2011 when someone told me about it online and they said it would be big.  I looked at it for a bit and then thought this seems stupid as its like a joke.  I believe price at the time was 10 dollars or so.  But i believe it was 1 dollar earlier in the year etc.  I never thought about buying it because it just seemed fake to me etc.

Now for those of you who bought or owned btc in 2011 and before...

1.  Was it easy to buy btc?  How did one that in the US?  Was it through the exchanges and which ones?  Mount Gox i believe was most popular one?  You had to connect your us bank account to it right?  Or did ppl buy it through certain sites and pay via paypal or underground sites or things like that?

2.  Where did you store your btc back then?  Was it in exchanges?  Did most do that?  I asked and someone mentioned electrum came out in late 2011 or so.  So did a small percentage kept in in wallets like that?  What other wallets like electrum existed back then?  What about ppl that got btc in 2009 or 2010?  Where they did they store it?  Were there very few that bought like 1k or 10k btc since price of it back then i heard was like 1 cent or so?  I mean, there is no harm in buying that if well its one cent.  And if so, where did they store it?

3.  Was it easy to acquire btc free back then or something?  Like were people giving them out as bonuses or for doing things etc?  The other thing is back then, were there any btc online casinos or sportsbooks like there is now or there was none around 2011 and before.  I assume there were none?  And was btc used as a form of payment much or not?  If so, like for what type of things?  Like imagine someone wants a website built and someone was willing to do the job... did those ppl offer btc or accept btc as oppose to say cash or paypal or bank transfer?  Did you or many point treated btc like it was nothing?  Like oh heres 100 btc, thats 1 dollar so nothing?
2460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoins That Do Not Depend on BTC Price? on: January 24, 2019, 08:22:28 PM
Are there any altcoins that does not depend on btc price?  As most of you know, btc price goes up, altcoin price goes up.  When btc prices goes down, altcoin price follows.  But are there any altcoins that does not care what btc price does?  If so, what are these coins?
