2441  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let the rally begin! on: June 18, 2011, 06:30:25 PM
I'd prefer some stabilization and slow grind-and-fill versus parabolic moves in either direction. While it is encouraging we are still in double-digit territory, I don't think we're out of the woods just yet. It would take a move towards the 20-area to convince me otherwise.

Be cautious, don't trade on emotion.
2442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone design the tails side of Bitcoins, or it will look like this! on: June 18, 2011, 05:44:50 PM
How about a large bonfire, with currency notes from around the world in a huge pile. Above the flames, a simple latin phrase meaning:

"Freedom From Tyranny"

2443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Allinvain $500,000 theft & Black Friday related? CIA / Banker Attacks? on: June 18, 2011, 05:39:40 PM
Interesting turn of events, do you think allinvain will return under another username with another damaging story? Maybe he posts under a second and is just waiting for the right time.

Just waiting for the next large btc transfer to materialize in the blockchain, no doubt.
2444  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / I'd like to see -- Mining and Minecraft Combined on: June 18, 2011, 05:27:06 PM
Had that thought today, and not even sure if it is even remotely possible.

What would it look like? Some bots just madly tunneling away, finding a block of 'bitcoin diamond' when they solve one? For some reason this amuses me greatly.

What do you think? Ridiculous? Entertaining? Think it can be done?

2445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My proposal for AllinVain's theft. on: June 18, 2011, 09:26:57 AM
My final proposal involves "allinvain" growing a pair and shutting the fuck up.

Of course, assuming that transaction belonged to him in the first place, which we have to accept on 'faith'.

It's all a dogs breakfast, no matter how you look at it. Goddamn drama queens.
2446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Close to US$500k stolen in first major Bitcoin theft on: June 18, 2011, 09:25:39 AM
With no sign of ending, you know, just so the 'truth' comes out.

Its like a hipster block party, everyone is too busy finding reasons why everything sucks, except themselves.
2447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just got hacked - any help is welcome! (25,000 BTC stolen) on: June 18, 2011, 09:23:16 AM
So, any ETA on when this pity-party is over?

Just wondering.

Or a police report, you know, if it is actually real. (or not).

2448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Close to US$500k stolen in first major Bitcoin theft on: June 17, 2011, 09:58:12 PM
But my wallet story has a dog, PBJ, and exciting blood-loss!

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=18371.msg234635#msg234635

And I'm pretty sure I lost... (scanning block chain...) oh .. yeah, 1,000 BTC around... 21:55 UTC. Truly. For realz.

2449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i just made a BIG mistake on: June 17, 2011, 09:46:09 PM
Guys, I totally messed up. I was hungry, and I didn't have any clean silverware. Taking what I thought to be an empty USB drive, I proceeded to spread peanut butter with it, and jelly (yum - strawberry!) on some bread. But then the dog started barking and totally distracted me. I turned around, and much to my dismay the dang beast leaped up and snatched my USB-knife out of my hands!

There he was, snarfing down my USB drive, when I realized... oh no... my WALLET WAS ON IT.

So, I tried to reach down his throat but it was no good. He didn't like me doing that, and clamped down pretty hard on my hand. I think I broke something too, because I heard a snap. Or maybe that was the USB key case cracking in my dogs throat, I'm not sure. So, I put things away while bleeding copiously everywhere, and sat down clutching a soaked dish-rag as a bandage to check on my wallet backups.

Well, wouldn't you know it, my dog had some kind of coughing fit and BAM, the key flew out of his mouth, into my eye!! Now I'm screaming a lot and the neighbors are starting to shout at me to knock it off, but I can only see out of one eye here - and goddamn does it sting! Stupid dog!

Now I realize I'm losing too much blood, and I think I might be close to shorting out my laptop. The dog is barking, the USB drive is lying somewhere in the room covered in dog drool and bile, perhaps unrecoverable, and my vision is starting to turn into a tunnel of blackness....

@finnthecelt

Haha, nice. Weimar cash pictures, the first is a lady burning them for heat. The second shot I suppose is a man out to buy a loaf of bread. Or to stop up a leak in a basement wall. Smiley
2451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What constitutes a crash of the Bitcoin exchange rate? on: June 17, 2011, 09:30:39 PM
Actually, the price drifting lower can actually help get rid of the emotional traders. You know, the ones that make trading decisions based on emotion instead of a calm, logical plan? The swings get amplified by such reactions, and since they are dampening down, we may have shaken all the 'weak hands' out of the market.

The ones among us who believe in the long-term future of bitcoin will step in and keep on buying. At a discount, of course Smiley
2452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need opinions for custom Bitcoin USB drives. on: June 17, 2011, 09:26:34 PM
Does Bitcoin-specific USB drive mean Bitcoin stealing malware included?

It also scans the blockchain and posts a sympathy emo-thread when 'n' amount is transferred, with the appropriate 'donation' address. Cuts out the middleman!

But seriously, I like the second one the best. First one is nice and fancy - just like how minimalist and clean the second icon is.
2453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Data proves Bitcoins are rising to 1000+ on: June 17, 2011, 09:19:23 PM
You speculate every day you carry dollars, too.

You're holding on to them in good faith that the government won't screw up horribly and devalue them somehow. And unfortunately, that is the case. It is just a matter of 'when' the massive debts the U.S. is carrying crash upon our heads. There is no such thing as perfectly 'safe', but you better bet I'd rather hold bitcoins in the long run than fancy green toilet paper.

2454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can someone who had their bitcoins stolen do? on: June 17, 2011, 09:10:31 PM
With cash stolen I guess you get can the police or FBI involoved. If you have your bitcoins stolen, can you get any help from the state or federal government?

That would require them to officially endorse bitcoin as a store of value. Because you can't pursue a claim unless you can attach some kind of USD value to it.

Or you could post a thread for sympathy, I guess.
2455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You just got hacked!!! Where were your coins stolen from? on: June 17, 2011, 08:49:05 PM
Has there really been that many hackings? Besides allinvain, I can only recall one other case

I really don't think there has been... That is kind of the point of all this.

Not to mention we took everything 'in good faith' without any way to actually prove it was his in the first place, yeah. Hell, let me just point to a big transaction on the blockchain and become the next emo-coin kid. Could you prove I was wrong? Not really.
2456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What constitutes a crash of the Bitcoin exchange rate? on: June 17, 2011, 07:45:03 PM
For me, an actual crash is sustained daily drops that take out a cumulative few weeks of rise. We've had a correction from the 30 level, now bouncing somewhere at half that. If we had completely broken down beyond 15 on the first fall from 30, I'd have to call that a crash. But it didn't work out that way.

We need more historical context, but since the market hasn't really been trading that long with the same kind of appreciation, that is difficult to determine right now.

2457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Plea from above - stop wild market swings on: June 17, 2011, 07:20:11 PM
Bitcoin Plunge-Protection-Team, Assemble!!

or...

We could just let the market trade normally Smiley
2458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How low will it go? on: June 17, 2011, 07:18:45 PM
I heard it was two nefarious groups:

Buyers

and

Sellers

What can be done? I suggest we ban all markets until this obvious collusion is disbanded!

(Yeah, I'm being sarcastic.)
2459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just got hacked - any help is welcome! (25,000 BTC stolen) on: June 17, 2011, 07:54:02 AM
Can we let this thread die?

Really.

Unless you enjoy the press picking up on someone's lack of personal security and inferring bitcoin is at fault.

Why are you so intent on letting the thread die?  There's still discussion going on within it, which is the whole point of a forum.

Absolutely.

Moderator, MODERATOR! I say good sir, could we sticky this so people see it upon their first viewing of bitcoin.org's forums? I believe it will leave a lasting impression of much goodwill.

Losing bitcoin is the first things people should see on a forum such as this. Huzzah, sir!
2460  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: June 17, 2011, 07:37:49 AM
How ironic..my misfortune is promoting bitcoin.....

Just for proper [Citation Needed] credit when the google-bot archives this:

Hi, I'm allinvain, you might know me from a heist that took place when I had little to no personal security. That's right, my failure to consider my situation resulted in the loss of some bitcoins. Don't be like me, take the proper precautions with your wallet.
