Google "UPS Transfer time" and "PSU hold-up time".

What happens is that the PSU very briefly shuts down then restarts causing the miner to reboot. Pretty much ALL standby UPS's have transfer times that are too long for mining use which is why the dual-conversion ones are best - BUT - being always on-line you do take a little efficiency hit.

And nice to see that they are using bus bars from PSU to the hash boards vs the clips that BM uses. Should be far more reliable Cheesy

Waddayaknow... DHL just dropped off the new miner. Got zero emails from Pango or DHL about it and Pango's site still has it tagged as 'Processing"...
At least it's here though Smiley

Hmm, and now we see that Pangolin is only selling the 33T version on their site, same $850 as the 31T was....
Wonder if this is why Pangolin has not not yet confirmed the order for a 31T that I placed last Monday. Zero emails from them about it and since last Tues the order status is 'Processing'.

So much for '2 days' eh?
2445  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any suggestions or experiences on using a voltage stabilizer/regulator on: February 23, 2019, 03:16:11 AM
Yea I remember your post on that in the other thread with your at home canaan settings. Really nice unit, something we're actually able to beat amazons pricing on but not by much.
Ja. it certainly is a workhorse. Its very wide input voltage rane from around 150v or less and over 277v, the ability to set output voltage and freq to 50/60Hz makes it perfect for industrial product testing as well. Mine's set to 230v 60Hz. I got it through Overstock.com 'cause they take BTC last year back when BTC was still over $8k

At something like 185LBS was real fun to get downstairs: used a block and tackle to slide it down the the stairs. One helluva workout I tell ya...

When you open it up to pull the hash board, please take pics of how the PSU is connected to them. Curious to know if they use bus bars from the PSU and BM-style clips on the boards or something better like actual screw-down connections to the boards.
2447  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any suggestions or experiences on using a voltage stabilizer/regulator on: February 22, 2019, 09:28:51 PM
When it comes to mining and using a UPS/stabilizer your biggest concern is the transfer time/switching time it takes for the UPS to take over or voltage corrections to be made. For efficiency reasons most UPS/stabilizers use relays and tapped transformers to make the changes and being mechanical devices relays take time to operate - anywhere from 5-10 or more ms. Unfortunately odds are the PSU's feeding your miner may not like that long of a dropout. I know mine didn't.

At home I ended up using dual-conversion UPS's like the Tripplite SU6000RT4UHV—6kVA that are always online changing AC > DC > AC and have zero transfer time.
2448  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: February 19, 2019, 09:55:25 PM
Does anyone know why Antpoo is mining so many empty blocks?
Because they can and do not care the slightest bit about the health of the BTC ecosystem.
2449  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Release new 7NM Chip and Antminer S17 & T17 on: February 19, 2019, 04:01:46 PM
Well I'm not sure how the de minus is calculated, when coupons are involved. Bitmain did just dump a lot of coupons into accounts, up to 395 for a S15 and 300 for the T15.

Definitely changes things a bit, and makes me think these units may be closer than we think.

De minimis is based on the Invoice value. Since coupons are directly reflected in the final total value on the invoices they can easily put you under de minimis but -- remember that you MUST be under the $800 mark PER-DAY - NOT just per-order! IF you have 2 or more orders from the same company that are cleared by US customs on the same day and they total over $800 you will be screwed.

Aaaaand it seems my #3 M10-31 that came in today needed a few restarts before it came fully alive. Despite a nice warmup for an hour in front of the exhaust from its 2 other brothers, on the new miner board SM2 would not go above 368MHz whereas the other 2 boards hit around 500. Letting it run at least 10 min each time to see how it came up, after1 hard boot and 3 'restart CGminer's' all three boards came up and now report 469, 510 and 526Mhz for 31.7 THs.

Seems that once you get the reported chip temps above 45-50C things will kick in properly. Hmm, like the ol' Spondoolies maybe a pre-heat with a heat gun/hair dryer would do the trick Wink

I initially ran into that as well with my 2nd one but like yours, after a good warmup all 3 boards came to life and have been doing just fine for over 5 days now.

The autotune does set different speeds as needed for the boards and interestingly, the board that initially did not show up runs at a lower speed than the other 2 boards do: Hmm, just looked and checking the 2, my 1st one all three boards are centered around 500MHz +/- 4, number-2 oth are all over the map! 499, 468 and 562MHz... Definitely some variation in chips there... Wink Still, considering it holds a steady 31.6THs - werks fer me! Cheesy

Well waddayaknow -- my 3rd M10 31T that I ordered last week just came in and despite being over $800 de minimis no bill from DHL re tariff due! Got a feeling one will show up later...
2453  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Release new 7NM Chip and Antminer S17 & T17 on: February 18, 2019, 04:23:00 PM
Might add that until these show up in the wild - this belongs in Speculation.
2454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: low difficulty coins with a possible future? on: February 18, 2019, 03:55:00 PM
This area you posted in is for Bitcoin only. Expect the mods to move this to the correct area.
So I suggest you peruse the altcoins area for your alternatives.
edit: Damn, the mods were FAST on this one! Already moved within minutes.

I have no idea how long would it take for a stick of those to reach 5460 satoshis. Doesn't this cause the same problem as the GPU miners?
Sort of. Even though the NewPac is 10's of k times faster than any GPU rig it is still pretty slow compared to any full scale miner.
2456  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Testing a 220VA Wall Socket? on: February 15, 2019, 08:03:20 PM
... Even if I was doing it at a lost, I'd still want to mine. And I think Bitcoin will eventually climb much higher. So I hang on for the long run.

All fine and dandy however you are still faced with the fact that you want to run a very loud, hot, and power hungry industrial machine in an apartment where you have no access to a very vital bit of information information - namely, how much power is available to you. Sorry Life is not cooperating but you MUST have at least that very basic information before saying 'I want to mine'. The other 2 bits (loud and hot) can be dealt with but you MUST know what power is available to you. I'd like to fly and spit diamonds but guess what -- don't see that happening either...
2457  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Testing a 220VA Wall Socket? on: February 15, 2019, 06:29:46 PM
... Any way to figure out how much amperage I got without looking at the panel?

As said earlier, NO!

The best you could do is look at the socket for the oven and based on what type it is, make a GUESS based on the sockets max current rating.
Only possible way to test the capacity is if you can provide a variable heavy load and monitor it while increasing the load until the breaker trips. Of course after that you will need to reset the breaker so...

You need to get access to the breaker panel and look. Period.

still waiting for tracking number  as the order is in processing.

Waiting with bated breath here as well. Despite being over de minimis I finally broke down 2 days ago and have another 31T ordered that should ship tomorrow.

I take it DHL will want a check upon delivery to pay the tariff?
2459  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any experts with Canaan Avalon miners? Need help please on: February 14, 2019, 01:53:33 PM
This really belongs in Mining Support...
Poke around the Canaan.io site - all the information is there such as this setup video Since at least the A7xx models they all setup the same way.
2460  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 40TH/80TH new Miners??? Swiss Miner on: February 14, 2019, 01:41:45 AM
Oh yeah, Martin something ... good memory !!!

Also Josh Zipkin from the AMT debacle also comes to mind. Had strong ties to said country as well as having a YouTube vid of him and the Forums favorite Hellfire and Brimstone scam hunter Phinaeuse Gage aka Gleb Gamow saying how for the previous month of vitriolic posts he was wrong and that AMT's (single sort-of functioning) miner was real and would soon be shipping.... Believe is from around mid-March 2014...
Gleb of course just went along with it to further let Josh dig himself in deeper. Und boy did he (Josh) ever do that...

edit: HAH! Found it! Vid link added.
