New to me. Ebay purchase.

Ok send message to seller and ask what he did to connect to it.  Ask what former IP was, if it worked for him.  If he ever has experienced this.

He is really the first person you should go to, as it's hard to really say remotely what is going on as far as what it was set to.
2462  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: All of my miners wont work. on: February 01, 2016, 04:41:58 AM
please help

You have 3 different miners, that is a little hard to troubleshoot without more info.  There is so many things it could be.

I would suggest splitting it up, start with one type of miner and see if you can get it to work.  Then move to next miner.  Get all 3 to work separate and then try to work together.

Have you tried working on one at a time?
yes and so far i have 2 of the 335Mh/s working, everything else isnt working for some damn reason

I would move over to U3 on trying to solve problem as it is more power then rest by far.   What have you done trying to fix U3?

And when you say u2 acted weird what exactly did it do?
2463  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 and heat on: February 01, 2016, 04:40:11 AM
That is how the s5 temps usually are I wouldn't worry too much about the difference. I would underclock it to get it under 70 max temp. When adjusting clock or airflow always use the higher temp as the actual temp.

EDIT: Got a picture of the top and how a fan is sucking air out?

The only thing is I'm guessing he is still having winter weather.  OP is that correct? I could be wrong.   But if 74c is with winter weather he really needs to solve it a little more before summer heat's up.

I'm still thinking he might need a fan or something to push air.  I'm thinking in a box with vent's likely is not moving hot air away from miner.  One PC fan is not moving much air.  I'm talking about like a box fan or something with decent CFM.

Usually I am happy to help out and get people up and running, and I have done so with the numerous miners I've sold and provided support to. But honestly you are coming off as a bit of a dbag and not worth the effort.

please accept my apologies, this wasn't my intention Smiley (I thought I was a bit harsh maybe after reading my post)

but I'm a sceptic, so I'm usually pretty careful about people talking about best practice when their own work doesn't differ at all from the official manual (linked here in pdf for your convenience), and you do not even start to hint as to why you're making these claim.

So please, prove me wrong. (and again, I do not mean to offend you, consider me as stupid old grumpy french douchebag if you want  Grin Grin)

No apology needed, trust me you didn't hurt my feelings.

I run linux, and have a few custom scripts I ran with my U3 which honestly are written in a way that probably wouldn't be much use on here. I base my advice on the 3 limit from the feedback I have received from my customers. I don't run any U3 anymore, and sold out my stock. As I mentioned, the guide was written for my customers by myself. Most see the chinese in the bitmain manual and get freaked out. Others don't want to sift through a forum to find their answers.

I don't follow that guide myself because
1. I don't run U3, and when I did it was mainly just 3 via a standard powered USB hub
2. When I did need to run more than 3 it was on linux (which most of my customers don't use) and was highly custom.

If you still have questions than honestly I don't know what to tell you.

You can save money on usb hubs if your using U3's no need for a fancy powered hub that is nice.  I know I used a cheap usb 2.0 hub. Since they have power from the bricks, or a PSU in some cases the hub does not need to be powered.
2465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mixing controllers from different batches S7 on: February 01, 2016, 04:32:30 AM
I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with controlling different batches of S7's on the same controller. I know it's possible to, but want to make sure having different batches won't mess anything up.

Thanks!

I suspect the IO board is the same for all, and will have no issues on all versions.  They sell it and make no mention of needing to specify what batch/speed it is: https://www.bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201601120933252220cfbfFq20693

I suspect the beagle board black does matter as there are different frequencies and firmwares.  On BBB - https://www.bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160105102242316JqapyMif0705 they mention "Please mark the AntMiner type and corresponding hash rate in the comment field, we'll provide the corresponding firmware before shipping out. "

But I could be wrong I'm just reading into their buying instructions.
2466  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread on: February 01, 2016, 04:29:02 AM
2 days with no progress.  Sad

Where did you get the S3 I might have missed it.  Is it new to you?  Or did a network change cause it?

Just trying to see if machine is new to you, or if it was a problem you had after it working.
2467  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: The S7 I/O board by Bitmain on: February 01, 2016, 04:22:42 AM

Saw that the board came with 3 connectors with space for 6 more. Does that mean I could just solder some more sockets onto it and it'll be able to handle 9 hashboards?

One would assume you could since people have been able to use the ones that did come with 9.  With them selling IO boards now I would chances are just get one of them as it's the easiest fix considering your talking about soldering sockets.

Also know if you used 9 remember you also need larger cables.  The standard cables would not be long enough to hook another S7 beside another.
2468  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Runaway miner acquisition "syndrome" on: February 01, 2016, 04:19:26 AM
Looking at https://blockchain.info/pools, most of the recent difficulty increase seems to come from BTCC pool. Bitfury or bitmain mostly mine in their own pools, so the question is, what is the mysterious force behind BTCC rise?

I don't think it's two mysterious it chances are is new gear.  I guess the question is who exactly.   It can be people trying to get last bit out of some miners.  Say for example on S7 chances are they want to pump some out and get most they can before having.

At some point (if not already) bitfury will be pumping out as much as they can.  They have shown video off chips, which most others have not on next gen.  Next gen is what really will be huge when it replaces older gear.  Which some might be doing already.  With most mining companies being privately held, them saying their plans does not really benefit them.

I hate going away from the computer a few days and coming back to see + double digit difficulty predictions, it was still single digits when I left!

I'm gonna watch this for a bit and get a late pick in I think.

It's honestly scary to watch I keep thinking ok we will see the end of the double digit... and I keep being wrong.  Last period of 6 even was nice to see.

The only thing I wonder is if Chinese holiday's will help a little looking in Febuary there is a decent amount:

2470  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitfury Containerized Plug and Play Datacenter on: February 01, 2016, 04:02:10 AM
The only thing I wonder is if some of these mega clients really will want the already setup box.  I see a lot of the big players already with investment's in data centers, so likely they will want to put in a spot they already have.   I predict most of clients will just want miners.   But I could be wrong if someone is a new player in the game then they might like this.

Agree. I see technicians in large scale mining farms slowly moving along racks replacing 28nm miners with 16nm miners.  The new miners look identical to the old miners and draw the same power.  The only difference is that they have 5 times the hashing rate.

So the network hash rate grows 500% compared to say June 2015 with no extra space or power needed.  It could rise from 400 Petahash to 2,000 Petahash just from upgrading of existing miners.

In practice some new mines will open as miners move to cheaper power areas.  But mammoth new mines over those previously announced are unlikely.

I think there will be a lot of that going on.  They will replace miners replaced and they might try to sell old miners to another location.

A possible example is over here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1231822.120   armedmilitia noticed that a operation in Venezuela's gear looked just like the one's MegaBigPower wanted to sell in bulk.

What we see in that thread I predict more of.  Send a container of old gear to some country where electricity is super cheap and high risk, but if since you already replaced gear... high risk is still a bonus if you get more ROI.
2471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I earn interest on BTC? on: February 01, 2016, 01:19:29 AM
How about you earn interest on bitcoins by holding it, and waiting for the price to rise? That's always something you can do with little to no effort.

That is not interest that is a gain based on value.   I find most interest bearing as risky there are a lot of scams out there.  There is that bitmain PACMiC v4, but it is a pretty low interst.

But if you find high interest I think high risk comes with it in almost all cases.
2472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: February 01, 2016, 01:16:44 AM
for me its blockchain.info wallet because it is pretty easy to use it and i think that its pretty safe

I have been working on a few way's to test and find good solutions for blockchain.  It seems to be by far the most popular online hot wallet.  Hopefully I will have more to post in a few day's.

I have became a hardware wallet fan lately, they are very secure if done right.  And paper if done right is great for storage not being touched.  But I still see a need for hotwallets so making them secure I think is also important. Or at least as secure as possible.
2473  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I need help with amps and S7... on: February 01, 2016, 01:02:38 AM
You only need the 240v setup if you plan on using their PSU. As others stated, can use EVEGA or another server PSU, you just need to be able to handle ~1300 watt continuous. That being said:

You should have a 20% buffer for continuous use.

Watt = Volts x Amps
so 240 Volt @ 10 Amps = 2400 Watts - 20% (480) = 1920 Watts which is plenty for a single S7.

So a 10 amp breaker would be fine for a 240V setup.

If sticking with 120V standard US then
120 Volt @ 15 Amps = 1800 Watts - 20% (360) = 1440 Watts continuous, which would also be plenty for a single S7.

So a 15 amp breaker would be fine for a 120V setup. That being said, you really shouldn't plug anything else into that circuit.

Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask.

Edit: Keep in mind this is for a single S7, I do not know how many you intend to setup. So adjust the math as required.

If he's paying a electrician it would be a shame to pay for a 240 10 amp to be put in.  It will be a little cheaper due to equipment.  But hes already going to pay for his time I would guess on electrician.

With paying for his time he might as well get 30 amp whall hes doing it.   There is not a drawback to getting it assuming the cost is not rediclous on price, some electricians do very high cost compared to part's/time.

I'm not telling him not to get 30 Amps... All I am doing is providing the math to him so he can make his own decision on what he wants. If he is running more than 1 machine, he will need more than 10 amps anyway.

The more important math in this case is the electricians cost I think.   I have a feeling 10,20,30 amp same amount of time on install.  So chances are only big difference is part's which 30 will cost a bit more.  But if your paying a electrician I have a feeling 30 amp will make most sense in almost all cases.

And also OP ask for a quote.  I had one electrician who wanted over a thousand dollars for 1 240 30 amp (way to much and to high).  Needless to say I did not use him.  I think he did not want job after seeing some miners, when he saw them was when I could tell he lost interest.
2474  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New S7 with Bitmain power supply.... what am i missing on: February 01, 2016, 12:58:47 AM
How many volts are you running on?  Is less then 205 the PSU will not power on in most cases.

Do you happen to have 110/120 where your plugging it in?

what he said! you need a 240V outlet... that or a step up transformer on a 120V outlet that is on at least a 20 amp circuit without anything else plugged into it, assuming you are only running one.

It is the most common reason on these PSU's.  Sadly some people don't read the 205+ Volts.   They just see a server psu and think it will work great with S7.  But as you mentioned there might be wasy's to get it to start on 120.

But instead of trying to get it to start on 120 I would get a 220/240 line if at all possible.  It comes in handy anymore with bigger miners.   A step up is like a band-aid a line with 220/240 is a real fix.

2476  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 and heat on: February 01, 2016, 12:51:39 AM
On one s5 I have the s3+ heat sinks, better thermal compound, 2 fans on it and clock it at 337.5. It still pulls 1,100+ Ghs at a little less wattage and runs a tad cooler, at the time of writing this the boards are 44/45C with the fans locked at 40% in 70F ambient. I can run the fans slower and get the temps up to 60-65 and it will be about s3 loud. 3100 RPM current fan speed

Given a choice between replacing heatsinks and adding another fan, i think the additional fan sounds easier.
How do you attach a second fan? at the opposite end to the original I'm assuming to 'pull' rather than 'push' the air.
How do you supply power? is it able to be 'plugged' into the S5 controller board?

Replacing heatsinks, with the associated detaching of the originals, the adhesive etc...water cooling then becomes an option, as the complicated/tricky bit of attaching the 'sinks seems to be the same.

Crash

EDIT: Meanwhile, i'll drop the frequency to 337.5 and see how things go.

You add the fan the same way the first one is in, correct, just to pull or push instead of push or pull to keep the airflow going. So both fan will have the same orientation. There are two 4 pin fan connectors so you just plug it right in.

Thanks Virosa, I'll give this a try.

Crash

Can you take a picture of this "box".  I'm just curious what it looks like.  S5's tend to run hot they were hot and loud in my mind as far as miners go.  If you show the box we might be able to give better ideas.

Also with being "under the house" what is ambient temp?  Is there any airflow down there?   If not you might try something as simple as decent fan to push hot air away from miner.    If that hot air just sits around miner's with nothing moving it that could be part of why it is so hot.

So second fan is installed, and I replaced the side covers. Temps are now 55&65. So this has helped one side, but not the other :/
I don't really want to muck with heatsinks, a bit past my skills level at this stage, so I'll leave it for a while, and may under clock a little.

Thanks for your advice guys.

My lotto mining was a pain with just 3 U3's.  I rebooted them at morning and night when I used a windows host computer.  I could count on at least one zombie if not more then, and they did happen during day it was like babysitting.

My best advice is get a R1 they listed on bitmain's site now.  Use crazy guy's custom firmware on it.    It will automatically restart if one zombies on U3.  In all my time of playing with U3's it is the best solution I found.  Crazy guy did a great job on his custom firmware.
2478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: February 01, 2016, 12:34:51 AM
The fans on the S7 are too loud for me (even at 32% 3,000 rpm setting).  Tried these two other fans and they can't push enough air to cool the S7 even at 600M in case anyone else was thinking of trying, the logical choice of the Silverstone FHP-141 rev. 2 and the Noctua 140mm 3,000 rpm fan (with this 140mm to 120mm adapter:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043GMZUA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00 used with 4 M4 x 18mm bolts each fan).  I believe that the Nocua moves more air than the Silverstone, even though the specs. state the opposite.    If the Silverstone had an extreme setting of 3,000 rpm (or even 2,600-2,400 rpm would probably be enough at 600M) above the performance 2,000 rpm setting, it believe it would be perfect for use with the S7.  Oh well, will have to stick with the 2 x S5 for the office for now.

Wire up your stock S7 fans in series or get a custom PWM fan controller and control the fan speed manually. You will need to have your S7 near a window however or you will need to underclock it.

Also if you change fan's it voids your warranty.   So if you have a new miner with a warranty in tact it is a shame to risk it on changing fan's.   But you are not allowed to even take apart let alone change parts without bitmain approving.

And S7 really are not meant to be quiet miners, and a lot use server PSU's which are not quiet easier.  There have been a few mods out there to make quiet.  But if your looking for quiet S7 without mods is not the miner for you in most cases.
2479  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Wiring Setup for Antminer S5 on: February 01, 2016, 12:30:20 AM
https://bitmaintech.com/files/download/AntMiner-S5%20user%20guide.pdf
Use all four connectors.
Antminer manuals are available at Bitmaintech.com

If you do 4 you have less of a load going through cables.  I always have done 4 on S5.    I know some will say 2 with specs could do the 590 rated at.  But keep in mind bitmain recommends: "PSU: A power supply unit is not included, and you will need to provide an ATX PSU. There are 4 PCI-e connectors for +12V DC input and all four are required. Do not connect more than one PSU to the same hashing board."

So 4 is what they say are required.    And granted if you underclock this could change.
2480  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I Buy used or new miners? on: February 01, 2016, 12:23:49 AM
Get brand new, most efficient miners available. If someone is selling his used device, it most likely means that it's becoming unprofitable.

not really, maybe he has bad electricity to sustain the mining in his house, but if you have a cheaper electricity than him it can still be profitable for you

so it depend, certainly i would pay far less if it is used, not like the beginning where many were buying at even higher price than the new

Used mining gear is usually totally overpriced. You can even find 0,3GH USB block Erupters for about 25$. Offers with fair price are the minority of the second-hand market.
Of course, you can consider doing the same thing - selling your gear with the price 2-3x of it's real value, and consider this income as a part of ROI Wink

In general, recently released devices are more energy efficient and then profitable, than their predecessors. It will be ideal situation, if you could buy used miner right after introducing, for the price lower than you would pay for a new one. The longer you wait to get even recent model, the less time you have to make an ROI.

Some keep those up as collectors though.   There are some who have collected every color on block erupters for fun.   I did not do it on them but I did on compacs try to get every main version.  So I can understand the collecting for fun.

Makes sense to me. Also, some people just want to be a part of mining community, they like the process and all things related to it - in that case profitability is not the factor to be considered. USB miners are very convenient and electricity costs are not worth mentioning, so they are ideal when you want to mine for fun Wink

When it comes to mining you got the
1) Miners who want to see profits, the business miners
2) Miners who want to be part of bitcoin and mine it, but also earn back their investment, most of us belong to this group
3) Miners who want to be part of bitcoin and can accept a little loss.
4) The group who try to be one of the above (1 and 2) and fails

Only the business miners can achieve ROI these days.
The've got better prices both for PSU/Asics + electricty

It's getting harder and harder for hobby miners, the difficulty level is biggest factor I think.  If we had 2-5 percent would be much easier.   But these 10, or even 15+ are scary.  Just look at this weeks difficulty it's scary high.

I think group 3 is pretty small.  Most that run at a loss I think sell gear at this point.  There is not a whole lot of reason to run at a loss.   They might lose a little before figuring it out.  There are some that claim they support BTC no mater what, and want decentralization.   But most can not afford this luxury of losing money  on a lot of gear.
