You know what, I'm just going to come right out and say it--a lot of you are really short in the people skills department. Posting or reading anything on an online forum is no replacement for grieving a substantial loss. Just give the poor guy a little bit of space for 5 seconds. It's not just about the money--it's about the emotions of having been an early adopter of something that turned out to be huge, plans for the future that now won't be possible, and so on. People aren't just money roombas.
Then sticky his thread for everyone to contribute to, because as you know, it really does bitcoin a great service. One time, I lost over 30k in index options, but I didn't whine to the world when it was my fault. The same should apply here. It wasn't a client vulnerability, he just MESSED UP COMPLETELY. I gave him the leeway, but I will be damned if I am going to see a 'allinvain' thread every few days. Unless of course, it was all a psyop to discredit bitcoin, in that case -- great job.

You know what, you've convinced me.
Lets start a perpetual sticky thread called "I lost bitcoins through my own fault and can't let go...".
Have local meetups where we can light votive candles and chant hymns while offering up our prayers to Allinvain, who will henceforth be the patron saint of HOW NOT TO SECURE YOUR GODDAMNED WALLET.
I think you could spin it off into a few shows and have some public service announcements too.
It just stands to reason that someone's incompetence should weigh upon us all, for ever and ever.
.... or does it?

After greece, the euro will disband.
Then the dollar will be next.
Choose carefully.
Okay, lets just start up a dedicated blog that can be google indexed, so his loss will be the first thing you see when you look up bitcoin.
Would that be satisfactory?
Is this just an effort to cast less doubt on yourself and more on the system? Because I am starting to have some doubts.
I wish the whole heist story would die in a goddamned fire already.
You realize the longer we keep it alive, the media echo chamber won't let go of the fact that someone got robbed? Even if it has nothing to do with bitcoin, and primarily with how people keep themselves secure -- it will become pretty hard to convince normal people otherwise.
Let this friggin' thing die already. The coins aren't coming back.
I forsee a lot of Distributed Denial of Service attacks in the future.
Consolidating pools is a pretty bad idea, but I suppose they will have to learn their lesson the hard way.
I would accept taking the loss and learning your lesson.
Can we let these drama threads die, please?
Can we let this thread die?
Really.
Unless you enjoy the press picking up on someone's lack of personal security and inferring bitcoin is at fault.
I want all these threads to die in a fire.
Not before they are put up as warnings for keeping personal security, though.
Can we let this die yet?
Really.
Those coins are not coming back, sorry.

Does anybody know how to withdraw my BTC from tradehill.com to my wallet. As of now it isn't giving me any options.
They generate one-time addresses when you deposit, so I don't see why it wouldn't be similar for withdrawals. Maybe shoot them an email if you aren't sure, or for some reason can't do so? I am sure they would help.

I wouldn't touch the equities market with a ten foot pole. Pandora is bumping along new lows, down by 50% or so from its opening price. No thanks. You are better off with bitcoins, I think.
Perhaps a "Security" sub-forum? Then posts like these can be read immediately below the stickied topics that outline precisely how not to suffer this fate.
It is getting a lot of attention for the wrong reasons, honestly. Unless you actually have a client flaw discovery somehow.
Just a suggestion.
The parent poster's idea should die in a fire. Seriously.
This is horrible.
The joke is on the government, though. The exchanges are only necessary until bitcoin dominates just one currency - then the rest fall to the ground like leaves in the fall. (And probably worth as much as leaves, too.)
It will take time, but that is where I see it headed...

Any chance we can let this horse die by archiving the thread? I'd say the whole event has been beaten to its sub-molecular components by now.
I think similar people made youtube videos in the early 20th century where they scoffed at the motorcar, stating that never would they give up their horse for such a silly, expensive, dangerous, and useless invention.
"Why, these auto-drivers -- it can't even FERTILIZE FIELDS!!" "Paying for parts? I just pay for my oats! Stupid car enthusiasts!" "I'm always towing out cars with my pack mule, ha ha" Yeah, that sounds right... new ideas take time

If someone can give me a direct link, I can see about converting it into a file that could be upped somewhere.
Just let me know on this thread.

Bitcoin Haiku: (5 -7 -5, remember)

Of course any malicious payload could change, but as a precaution you may want to put the following in your 'hosts' file:
(Depends on your windows install, but do a search for hosts*)
127.0.0.1 smtp.wp.pl
Or just move your savings wallet to an appropriately encrypted container with backups under your Linux distro of choice.
