but if an individual post is deleted, either by a moderator or by the user himself, then the merits should get burned as @hilariousandco has said,
I will not agree with this because moderators are human of course that could commit human error in the process of deleting individual posts. If this will happen then there will be some members rank that will be demoted after deleting some of their merited posts? So, I do not think that it should be consider. I could be demoted too to newbie if it will going to happen. If a mod removes a post that is unjust and didn't actually break any rules then you can complain about it in Meta (as I'm sure you would) and the post can be restored by an admin. If a mod removes a post then it is usually for a good reason or that it broke the rules and that merit probably doesn't deserve to be given in the first place. because in that way, the one who sent the merits with the intention to abuse the system would get nothing back, neither the receiver would get any benefits out of that.
Merit abuse is something that should be stop but not in a way through deletion of the merited posts which considered as merit abuse. If the problem is all about stopping the merit abuse then I suggest to consider a system that will approve and dissaproved merit give aways. It could be a lot of work but this will ensure that merit will not be abused. Or else, there should be a control on how to give merits. 1-3 merits, for constructive and helpful posts. 4-6 merits, for sharing technical expertise. As we all know that technical aspects are being paid with high salary so we should consider also giving more merits on this posts . 7-10 merits, if it is helpful, constructive, encouraging, empowering posts, and sharing technical expertise. 11-50 merits - if the post was really brilliant and one of a kind post. We should not worry about this because we could report the post/thread if found that there is a merit abuse being done. Like there are lot of posts that receive 50 merits that are relatively not that good and that is clearly merit abuse. This is all completely subjective, and I'm not sure how you'd enforce it anyway.

NSFN stands for "not safe for newbies". If you're a newbie looking to earn your first merit this topic may elevate your blood pressure.According to merit stats we have sent ~22 thousand merits in the last 30 days. According to ban and nuke stats ~24.5 thousand merits have been "destroyed" due to permanent bans in the last ~2 weeks *: Ironically half of the bans probably came from being exposed due to them meriting their own alts. We should rename merits as 'alt' or "friend" tokens. I love how this guy excitedly boasted in Meta about getting merits, then as soon as I brought up the likelihood of him meriting his alts he quickly moved it to Off Topic and locked it ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) . I think that tells you all you need to know. Waste, but that's why it's created, to point out the quality poster and those abusing the system. If you check for plagiarism before you give merit, probably big part of those wasted by mistake will be saved.
Yeah, I would advise anyone to do this if you have the time. I tend to dedicate a certain amount of time now to giving merits when I know I have time to check for plagiarism or not strictly plagiarism, but something that has been repeated to death or has been discussed recently. A common trend among newbies is to back a few pages, and just regurgitate a good reply hoping for some merit. I think this is why we should up the requirement to ten before they can have a signature because then giving out one bad merit here and there won't be such an issue. It's such a hassle having to google people's posts just to see if they're plagiarised, and if they're text-spun then you likely won't get a hit either. When one merit is all you need it's like Christmas come early for a spammer and you can get one all too easily and in numerous nefarious ways. Let's see them try to get ten on their dozens of alt accounts. It would make abuse much less likely to happen and also make it much easier to spot. One solitary merit will fly under the radar a lot of the time.

If Real Madrid cannot beat a team like CSKA Moscow which is far away from the Real Madrid team quality even with injured players , this is a big problem for Real Madrid and I think their progress will be cut very early from the Champions League.
CSKA in the national league is already six points behind the leaders with only 9 games played so they would want to focus more on the national league at this stage.
This game is going to be an interesting one. I could see a Moscow win with all the Real players out and they're already 1-0 up after only two minutes played. I have the score to be 1-2 so hopefully Real can turn it around. Russian crowds can be very lively and often give the home team a boost so sometimes you've got to take that into consideration. Also as Pab said, the weather is also another factor as it's freezing there and ten o clock at night when it kicks off I think. Roma, Bayern and Benfica are all also currently 1-0 up.

Don't forget to put your scores in for today's and tomorrow's games. I think predicting the Champion's League is ten times harder than the Premier League. Some teams I'm just not familiar with at all. Then there's some injuries and suspensions you've got to take into consideration. Juventus are missing Ronaldo and apparently Real Madrid have a load of players out to injury. Man United are playing shit, but then Valencia aren't doing great either and are fourteenth in their league. Really not sure what to go with for a lot of these games and there's too much to research really so I guess I'll just have to go with gut instinct.
Yup... It's not really worth looking into each fixture just to make an educated guess. It's the group stages. Things will get pretty pretty interesting startng at the KO stages tho. Can't wait. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Well to say I wasn't that confident I'm off to a pretty good start so far with two correct scores from the two early games. The only trouble is six others also got the same results haha. Another seven players got one score right and the outcome. Real Madrid game is going to be an interesting one. I could even see a Moscow win with all the Real players out but not got the balls to back them. Russian crowds can be very lively and often give the home team a boost so sometimes you've got to take that into consideration. The weather is also another factor as it's freezing there and ten o clock at night when it kicks off I think.

Lol. C for effort. Somebody tag them all. I really don't have time to verify and tag all these merit abusers but they need to be marked. Warnings need to be sent that it's very risky business doing this crap. I'd say something fishy is going on here.
Hmyeah, looks like both limtjoehua and Ghebung Masam might have bought merit from knuckey and limmousine. Could just be "friends with meritfits", though ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Inconclusive. I like that phrase. Better than just the "friend" in quotation marks. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2Foriginals%2F49%2F09%2F38%2F490938f7d922321fa975e80f86de0aff.jpg&t=663&c=AoVnkiny27UMEg) That's a thing? ROFL It seems ever since these guys were demoted they've been trying to find a way to increase their rank again. Merit abuse is more rampant nowadays. I even see people selling their merits. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) Good catch hilariousetc. Its kind of good in a way that its happening more. We get to easy the desperate newbies that want to become Jr members, and possibility identify those behind the scenes that are selling their merit. Seems like a lot of merit abuse going on in the altcoin section right now. It makes them easier to spot as merits are a precious resource so most users can't resist giving them to their alts - sorry, "friends" - but it's very, very risky as we can see and so it should be. I've joked in the past we should rename merit points to alt points or "friend" tokens ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) .

^ I think it's better to wait til the CL matches are done. There could be injuries among the clubs playing. And sometimes a loss could spill over to the league.
You can always change the scores just as long as you don't lock them in. I normally wait until the end of the week when all the pundits start making their predictions and compare them against mine. Sometimes I'll tweak them accordingly but I like to stick to my guns. I usually do better than the actual pundits overall. Beat Lawro last year I think.

I feel like this forum has so much potential and theymos is really not taking advantage of it. I understand he is extremely busy but can he not give someone else permissions to assign mods/admins and other stuff?
He's acknowledged the need to do so and it's obviously something that needs to be done sooner rather than later. He did put my suggestions of more sub mods/admins in the 'OK in principle, would require thought/adjustment/implementation' category in the community suggestions thread but for some reason he just isn't committing to it. I don't know whether it's just down to trust or what, but it's not like there isn't anyone trustworthy on the planet to do some of this stuff. In his own words he doesn't have time for even the basic of things here and barely even posts here so this work should be delegated out to those that can do it. We could have one or two people restoring accounts, one running the ad slots, one or two replying to emails and then that leaves theymos to crack on with the most important stuff behind the scenes. At the moment nothing is getting done at all and people are having to wait a year+ to get their account back which isn't acceptable. The forum could run so much more efficiently and he doesn't even need to do anything other than initially sort that out by giving the ability to trusted people to do this stuff. All he has to do is then oversee things but you can do that from the backseat. Not doing anything at all just makes things worse and we're practically going backwards at the minute as more and more issues just keep getting pilled up.

And the club has to consider if Zidane really can get the club out of the rut beyond this season, which I don't think he can do really...
United needs to start rebuilding the club from the ground up. There's no other way around it imho.
I don't think he can either, but I'd like to see him there even if it's just to prove me wrong. People put too much emphasis on managers making that much of a difference or expect them to come in and revolutionise the squad and win trophies immediately and that just never happens unless you have a world class squad to begin with. Managers like Pep and Zidane already inherited world class squads from world class clubs. I mean, who couldn't win a title with Bayern and Barca? Let's see them manage a mediocre Championship team and see if they can win them the Championship and then the Premier League within a few years. Then I'd call them a world class manager. At least Fergie started from scratch with United and built his team up to be great. People should start blaming the players more instead of using managers as a scapegoat (unless they're just tactically going to pot) but they rarely do. Sometimes teams just don't gel or have a bad run of forum and sacking the manager for a new one usually does very little to remedy that. United getting Zidane probably won't make any difference, especially this season.

So donators no need to ask for the theymos to change their name?! Since they can edit their name from that box and enter the current password will change into the new name, unique feature tho. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) No, they can change them at anytime, but if you tried to change it to theymos or something with 'theymos' in it like theymoss it wouldn't allow you. I once changed my name on my main account then I couldn't even change it back to the original without an admin doing it so I assume all staff names are blacklisted in some capacity. You can't have satoshi in your name either. Think I once tried to register hilariousandcrow and that wasn't allowed either haha.

Some good games on tonight, I’ll probably do a parlay containing teams from the lower leagues in the English Leagues as ‘both teams to score’ parlays with those teams do pretty well.
Champions League wise though I think Man Utd vs Valencia is near guaranteed to end up with BTTS. Looking at the other CL games I don’t predict any shocks tonight - Bayern, Juve, Real, Roma, Man City all to win.
Really tempted to take long parlays on the favourites for main stage. Bayern had a shock defeat in Bundesliga, Real on the back of draw and defeat, United the same but none of those results will matter for their pedigree in Europe. Of course, I'll hedge it with a nice Liverpool bet tomorrow. Seems early bets have been giving nicer margins even a day early. Definitely a chance for a lot of teams to shrug off week of misery, so exciting matches guaranteed whatever the outcomes. I think I'll stay away from betting on this round (or at least today's games). Far too many uncertainties and players out. Apparently Real Madrid have a load of players injured. I never do that great in Champions League anyway. I'll see if SkyBet offer a price boost for tomorrow. From all matches today i think I will play something very hard maybe to get.
Juventus - Young Boys, will go over 1.5 goals in first half and 3 or more goals at the end AEK - Benfica, going for under 3 goals AS Roma - Plzen, Roma to score 1.5 or more goals Manchester Utd - Valencia, MNU is in bad shape thinking to play very serious draw on this one
Valencia is also not in good form, so I think Manchester United will be able to handle this game for their own good. Yeah, I agree. Valencia are fourteenth in their league and they have to travel so I think Man United will be ok here. If they don't win though they Jose is probably in trouble. The other match in group H is between Juventus and Young Boys which looks more predictable.
Ronaldo is suspended though remember. I think they'll still beat them fairly easily but probably not a thrashing which I would have gone for if Christiano was playing.

That board probably doesn't need three mods Nope, but it's a great example of what can happen when a board does have enough moderator time dedicated to it. Low value/meaningless/duplicate threads deleted before they develop, threads locked once the conversation is over, not a spam comment in sight. And how to spread this behavior to the other boards isn't some great mystery - we just need some dedicated sub board mods. We shouldn't be at the stage where I can tell if you've been busy for a couple of days because my number of unhandled reports keeps climbing. I don't disagree. I would rather each board have three mods as opposed to either one or zero (especially if you discount Globals). Mining isn't even that active and is certainly one of the less-spammed boards, but Bitcoin Discussion on the other hand is spam central and doesn't even have even one dedicated mod. I managed to get a list of the top reporters in there from theymos a few months ago but nothing since despite a handful of PMs about the matter. Not going to keep annoying him with it so the ball is in his court now. Things like this should be done ASAP though and only require a short amount of his time and then no further action would be required from him and the forum benefits in the process.

Noticed this shit post below was given five merit: limmousine (5) everyone wants marriage, only stupid and abnormal people who don't want it, but not everyone who gets a marriage, even until his death the marriage doesn't come. so marriage is the most beautiful gift that God has given us.
this reminds me that when I was single. I am a hypocrite, a bad man, a drug addict and a rebellion to parents, everything I do is useless.
but after my marriage a lot of things changed, especially when I had to meet household needs and also during my wife's pregnancy. all of that makes me have to be a better person and I don't want my child to be a bad person like his father before.
now I live happily and become a much better person before I get married, this is the most beautiful gift from God and if not for marriage maybe my life would not be as beautiful and happy as this.
Then he got another five from a different user: knuckey (5) if this is the end of the crypto, then I'm sure there's a big dump is going on and maybe this time all crypto is not worth it, but its all not happening. if this is the end of crypto, do you think big investors or often called whales will be willing to lose all their assets? certainly not and they will do anything to restore their assets.
limtjoehua received five merit from both limmousine and knuckey (conveniently enough to become a Member), both who also merited Ghebung Masam for these posts below: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2039821 Ghebung Masam fraud is the main reason the government does not like crypto, see from last year there were a lot of ico scams that cheated many people, made worse by the investment business of hyip or ponzi under the guise of crypto which was very detrimental to many people. honestly there are many governments that have seen the potential of crypto and some countries have supported crypto. it's just that there is a lot of pressure from bankers and other politics that makes a government decide on an unpopular policy.
if we want to give a gift or pocket money to our child, should it be known by the public? this is where the role of privacy must be maintained and for me it is very important. therefore monero deserves to be in my portfolio and hopes to become a valuable asset in the future.
I'd say something fishy is going on here.

I'll laugh my ass off if Mou gets the sack, but Man Utd really should take Valencia.
Anyone looking at the Palace game tonight? I'm thinking BTTS or total goals +2.5, got a feeling it's going to be a high scoring game.
The question is: Does Jose Mourinho survive? Because he haves difficult matches : - Valencia (H) - Newcastle United (H) - Chelsea (A) - Juventus (H) - Everton (H) - Bournemouth (A) - Juventus (A) - Manchester City (A) Newcastle have always had their best in front of the devils, Chelsea and Manchester City are competing against the Premiership and the question of winning them seems almost impossible at this time, especially as the United level fluctuates. So it's possible that he will not see the end of the season with United specially when he lost the trust of players and fans and it's a matter of time that the board lose faith in him. Newcastle United, Everton and Bournemouth aren't difficult matches. Nobody will expect them to win again Juve, City and Chelsea either, especially away. If they lose or draw against the first three Premier League teams then maybe arguably he should go, but if he can get some points from the home games in the Champions League then I think that would be fair enough. I doubt they'll let him go unless they can 100% confirm Zidane as a replacement, especially considering they'll have to give Jose a huge pay-off to get rid of him and Zidane is probably going to command one of the biggest salaries for a manager.

Jesus, you've got to wonder how much time these guys have got on their hands to be posting on 200+ accounts, unless it's a team of people then it's more understandable. The funny thing is they're all bounty spammers, spamming for projects which are likely to crash by 90% when they hit the exchanges, if they ever hit the exchanges. This means that the majority of their effort will go to waste ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) It's probably the easiest and most rewarding job they'll ever have regardless of whether there's one person or a team of them behind the accounts, but it can be done just by one person if you think about it. Think of it as just like an admin job that you get to sit at home all day and get paid handsomely just for posting crap. If you look at their posts they're all just one/two liners with the minimal amount of effort being put into them. They find spam threads, write their one/two liners, then just re-write it over how ever many accounts they have. When you've got hundreds of accounts doing this the money starts to seriously rack up. Some users are making tens of thousands for this and I think some address have been traced that have had $100k+ worth of tokens sent to it so that just shows you how much money there is to be made for this abuse. It's why we need more than just one merit requirement and need to clamp down on the ICO campaigns who are paying them to make this rubbish because the worst abusers are just going to find ways to abuse the merit system to their advantage like this particular instance.

He holds the record for writing the stupidest thing I've ever read, and I've read several Trump tweets. Male circumcision on the 8th day after birth, improves the immune system of the infant so extremely well, that he can almost always stand the autism producing shots he was given at the hospital. It's when the circumcision is done too soon, like on the day of birth, or too late, like long after the 8th day, that the results are barely effective. As others have mentioned, there is no point even responding to him. Either put him on ignore or just stay out of his threads. It's posts like this that make me think he's just trolling, but you never know. One thing I've learned over this years is to never underestimate human stupidity. I was just reading the Reputation board and you guys made me curious about this person, I just checked their posts and you are all absolutely right, this guy just speaks nonsense. As I remember he had not negative feedback before but now he has 2, it seems he has overdone it a dozen times. I don't think though that some state can sponsor such posts , well may a state like Republic of Wadyia(taken from the dictator movie) can sponsor such person, other than that I am sure no one would ever sponsor him.
State-sponsored trolls usually have an agenda and are either pro or anti-something to promote whatever their agenda is. What is BadDecker's agenda? Promote God/Christianity? What good would this serve any government. He either genuinely believes this crap (and there are these sorts of people) or he's just trolling for kicks. Either way, if everyone ignored him then he'd probably get bored. I don't think there's one thing that trolls hate worse than the silent treatment because they then realise they're just wasting their time. When they keep getting a rise out of people then they keep doing it because it's fun for them.

I agree about the Press sub, but I think that board has served it's purpose now and should be locked/archived. It was created when any press mention about bitcoin was exciting and essentially 'noteworthy', but now it's just used to spam any old crap that vaguely mentions crypto. If it's to stay then I think we should prohibit any bitcoin/crypto-based websites but there definitely needs to be some standards pinned in there at least.
It feels like the purpose of that forum should be to discuss interesting and newsworthy current events as they happen in the real world. Personally, I'd prefer if that was kept separate from the "regular" Bitcoin discussions, at least until the main Bitcoin discussion board is a little more spam-free. I don't want to sift through several pages of " who is satoshi?", " what if the government ban bitcoin?", " Is bitcoin better than X/Y/Z?" and " why is price going up/down/sideways" to read about the latest news. I'm all for Press being more strictly moderated, though. Obviously Bitcoin Discussion needs a dedicated mod or two to trash the spam, but any decent article can and does get posted in Bitcoin Discussion so that's just another reason in my opinion why we don't need the Press board. How about the child board Ivory Tower? Actually, I'm intrigued why it's called like that (my bad, I'll search it later). This should have a description also because others might think it was a tower made of ivory or a tower made by a girl with the name Ivory. The name is tongue in cheek. To live or be in an ivory tower is not to know about or to want to avoid the ordinary and unpleasant things that happen in people's lives: Academics sitting in ivory towers have no understanding of what is important for ordinary people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivory_tower
how about making Press board similar to "Serious discussion" boards. meaning you won't get your post count increased or get any activity or show your signature. this can effectively stop people from copying random news articles and pasting them there without much thought added if at all.
Ha. If we did that then nobody would post in there other than those that haven't figured out that posts don't count. Might as well just get rid of it if that was going to happen.
A list of news sources allowed to be linked there would be enough.
You probably couldn't make a list of all these publications as it would be too inclusive. We should just state that it' if it's from a Crypto/Bitcoin related site then it's not notable and therefor not allowed
