I've been using Cryptsy for about a year and have never had any serious issues.
Bitjohn, Mullick, and the crew, have always been top-notch in terms of customer service & professionalism.

Its pretty obvious that ltc is by far the lead alt coin (even if a flavor of the day looks like its market cap exceeds ltc), and the most widely accepted.
I agree with this assessment.

Hello,
I've been trading for a few weeks with little to no luck. Everything I touch seems to not be volatile until I touch it then it tanks. What exchanges/currencies are good to trade with when you first get started in the business?
I like to look at these currencies as long-term investments. Find a few coins to support, then invest and become an integral part of each of the communities. Become an early adopter and part of the building process as you watch your investment grow.

Best of luck with your exchange. Looks like you're off to a great start!

Goldcoin (GLD) is approaching its one-year anniversary and is considered a mature altcoin.
The coin was one of the first to develop a 51% defense system and to become multi-pool resistant. Goldcoin was one of the first altcoins to release a fully-functional Android app. Today, the developers are working on an innovative java client to be released soon.
We believe that 2014 will be a banner year for Goldcoin as our marketing campaign rolls out in Spring to promote our new java client.

It is a great time to buy some BTC (and alts too), as long as you have more money ready for even lower prices (if/when those come)
Yes. I also think altcoins are now beginning to complete with bitcoin for mainstream news coverage. Evidently there are many hidden gems that are practically undiscovered and just waiting to break out on a massive uptrend. http://altcoinpress.com/2014/03/dogecoins-ben-doernberg-wows-fox-news/This Ben Doernberg guy explains one possible version of the future quite well. I think he's right on the money.

I am wondering whether altcoins, attract people to get invoked with cryptocurrencies and whether people once they became interested in cryptocurrencies because of an altcoin now also own bitcoin
For me, it was the other way around. I first became involved in Bitcoin and then discovered altcoins.

Did somebody say gold? On the condition of mass delusion. Value is in the eye of the beholder. There was time when there were no humans on earth and no one to value gold. There will be a time when gold will no longer be valued. The 5000 years history of gold is a blink of the eye compared to the age of the earth. So it is with bitcoin. It was once worthless and will be so again. Only the mass delusion of some humans gives it value.
This is a great explanation.

Perhaps it's just the forums, but I feel like there's a lot of negative vibes coming from BTC right now. I've following Bitcoin and mining for a while but never bothered with forums until recently. Is this common amongst forum-goers or is it really just Bitcoin in general?
There are cycles. Usually right as the negativity reaches its peak, we get the rebound.

I've been seeing a lot of talk about all of the copy-paste scam coins. Can anyone provide a list of coins that aren't 'copy-paste' coins. (Basically coins that aren't variations/copies of Bitcoin)
For the most part, all altcoins are variations of Bitcoin, it's just a matter of how much "new code" is under the hood. I don't know of any lists.

The developer of StabilityShares has taken off without explanation.
To make this sustainable you are going to need a full-time developer that knows what they're doing. Determining why the last developer left would be a good place to start.

even more or less u cant say just by this?
Price is a function of supply vs. demand. If you don't know the demand, you can't calculate price.

Questions as I'm just curious.
Country specific coins, ie Auroracoin what will happen when the only people with these are in Iceland?
Is it their intent to replace fiat in their country?
And if they did this wouldn't this just be like fiat anyway?
Are foreigners investing in these country specific coins just feeding the local economy?
I think the popularity of these coins will be limited in much the same way ccTLDs are limited. One of the main strengths of bitcoin and altcoins in general is their ability to transcend borders and facilitate global trade. Think gTLD.

I've solely mentioned Litecoin, but of course all of this applies to any coin that is backed by competent and long-term sighted developers and users. (Because its not true that Cryptos are backed by nothing and hold no intrinsic value - they're backed by intelligence and human rationality.)
In the end, a few of the altcoins with solid development, loyal communities, and brandable names will rise to challenge the mighty Bitcoin.

Hi I have a reaaalllyyy goood idea, so much that I cant sleep. I am not a programmer. I need help is creating a new Coin, can somebody please point me in a good direction, ... site, resources, etc? thanks Why not find an existing coin to support? Altcoins are about to enter a period of rapid consolidation. Finding a coin that's oversold to support could also be a rewarding experience as you help it rise to power.
