So,he has always tried to stay away from technology related company. Buffett also never invested in Facebook or Twitter. Fool.com wrote this in 2014: Consider what he said the 2001 letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders as the market began to watch the dot-com bubble burst: "At Berkshire, we make no attempt to pick the few winners that will emerge from an ocean of unproven enterprises. We're not smart enough to do that, and we know it."
More recently, as shown in the video below, Buffett noted that he has been successful because he sticks to industries and companies he's most comfortable with. These are also the sectors he understands and for which he can determine a true value. From his perspective, he is of course right! He does what he does best, and it made him one of the richest men on the planet. Especially the bold part is true: While early investors in Bitcoin or Facebook made massive profits, at the same time many high-risk venture capital investments turned to dust. In hindsight it's easy to pick winners, when I first saw Bitcoin I never expected it to grow this much. I wish I did!

Warren Buffett is a genius investor, but he's also 87 years old. I don't blame him for not understanding Bitcoin, and he's always said not to invest in things you don't understand. I wonder though how he'd respond if someone would ask him why dollars have value. Allow me to edit his quote: “You can't value bitcoin dollars, because it's not a value-producing asset,” he answered.

Price increase of Blackbytes continuous!
I think blackbytes are amazing, they're the truely valuable aspect of Byteball. They're totally undervalued because they can't be traded, and it makes sense the price goes up now that several exchanges are popping up. I would like to check if Tony read my suggestion to have a signature campaign that pays in Blackbytes.

This campaign is currently on hold until further notice.Greetings, Bitcointalk!

I'm aware Bitcoin Core now supports HD wallets. Before this upgrade though, it used random addresses. My point is, your claim ("Static (non-HD) wallets stick to using a single address for all transactions") is incorrect. As for "private key storage", it is our speciality due to the fact that a lot of easy-to-use mobile wallets are hosted. Can you be more specific and give names of mobile wallets that store private keys on their server? As far as I know none of the mobile wallets I've ever used stores my private keys on their server. We already answered about trust. I don’t want to be repetitive, but I believe that trust is a question of time and we will prove it to you. I'd like that! But until that happens, I don't dare to install your wallet. It feels like being a guinea pig, and usually that ends badly. Our intentions are clear and we want to make a product that still doesn't exist, that will let users have access to their funds from anywhere in the world, that will be easy, smoothly designed, mobile, and most importantly, will be secure! All of this exists already, and those wallets have been around for years. You're making it sounds like this is unique for your software, while it's common practice. Even better: Bitcoin itself is designed to be all of these. If you omit the obvious, what truely new USP do you have? [/still sceptical]

DT2 is fast with red trust, based on a claim that can't be verified! I don't like the idea that anybody can make this up to get someone red trust. Please verify signatures first, that's the whole point of having a staked address.

Since I couldn't get the new wallet installed, I've installed Iconomi on Android. I sweeped a private key, made a transaction, but it doesn't show on BitCore Block Explorer. There is no outgoing transaction from that address. Iconomi itself says I can't sweep the private key again: " The private key does not contain any funds.". Even if I install Iconomi with a new wallet on a different phone, it gives the same error. I think this means Iconomi's own server registered the previous sweep, and won't allow me to do it again. Have other BitCore users here tried Iconomi? It was only a small amount, for testing, but I'd like to get it to work to move other balances to my main address.

The idea behind this is to be preventative and also the sharing of experiences with this technical matter. Why should people lose money, if other people already done this exercise and be in a position to help.
As long as they don't read the information, it won't help them. If someone just imports his key on a random website without knowing what he's doing, no amount of HOWTOs is going to stop him. I'm not sure why you need any "services" for sweeping a paper wallet? ~ This isn't rocket surgery or brain science. I know that and you know that. But many people lose Bitcoins when they try to handle private keys. I've recently installed Iconomi, it can handle all different Bitcoin forks (and BitCore). You have to sweep the private key separately on each chain. If they would automate that, so that one sweep securely splits all different coins, it could be a very convenient wallet to use for inexperenced users.

Did you download Electrum or Electron Cash? Electrum works with Bitcoin, Electron Cash works with Bitcoin Cash.

What the hell? That's ridiculous. ~ I would be pretty pissed if someone else was able to to reap the growth of my investments after defrauding me. I still can't wrap my head around how this is legally possible. He would have never earned that much if his company didn't lose 650,000 Bitcoins at the time. Even worse: this could encourage others to do the same: instead of pulling an exit-scam in which you just run with the money, you "lose" some, file for bankruptcy, and wait until you've reaced a large profit from the remaining Bitcoins! Basically, he got a loan in Bitcoins that he can pay back in dollars at the price it had in 2014!
Let me quote myself here: who would lend someone $100 million now to buy Bitcoins, to be paid back $100 million many years in the future if and only if the price of Bitcoin goes up? That's what Mark Karpeles got away with!
|
|
|
I had looked for a multi-quote option. I manually copy/paste several quotes into one post although to start with I will be trying to buy in the dips and hold. From your current investments you should know it's virtually impossible to time the market, right? You can always try, but after I sold at 498.00 I was waiting to buy back at 357.80. I'm still waiting for that What I learned from this, is that profit from trading isn't for me.

One my friends, an old lady joined to this system few months ago and put $3500 + $100 (like for membership). Few days ago she said me about this and when we logged into the only money that we found was in here Bitcoin Wallet - ~approx. $140 (0.018BTC). From what Google tells me, it's a ponzi/HYIP. That means your old lady friend got scammed. I don't have any answer from bitclubnetwork.com, but i hope to get any assistance here .
Maybe she can file a police report, although that won't do much, it might add to the total if it ever comes to prosecution. ` Some links: Criminals behind Bitclub-Network Investment Scam[Investment Warning] Bitclub Network Review and Analysis

Now let's change the scenario to bitcoin... I give my friend 20 dollars and use a low fee because he's in no rush. I lose a dollar on the transaction... ok.. oh well. lol I pay for a pack of gum at the shady stop and shop. We don't trust each other. How will he feel if I give him money and he will hopefully get it tomorrow? and the 100 dollar donation scenario. Well... it's not gonna work. You're screwed, you'd be better off me sending you zelle, or maybe an alt-coin. Bitcoin loses in all scenarios Bitcoin needs a scaling solution. Blocks have been full for over a year now, which is what pushes fees up. But luckily, you have options: for example, you can pay large amounts with Bitcoin, and small amounts with altcoins. I have several wallets for several altcoins, and can accept either one of them. But in the end, all people really want is more Bitcoins, and that's what gives Bitcoin it's value. Despite the high fees.
|
|
|
First, it's up to you how much fee you pay. Check https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx, and realize you can pay less if you're not in a hurry. Currently 40 Satoshis/byte is enough, usually transactions are cheapest on Sundays. You could probably make a transaction now with 20 Satoshis/byte, and I expect it to confirm within 12 hours. If you're not in a rush, this is the way to do it. Unlike a bank that might charge you 10 dollars to send 100 dollars, bitcoin checks to see if you have 100x1 dollar bills, or 1x100 dollar bill Bitcoin is electronic cash, so the comparison to bills makes more sense than comparing it with a bank account. The way to deal with this is to prevent having small change in your wallet. You currently can't use Bitcoin to sell items for a few dollars each, fees are simply too high for that. (imagine giving your friend 20 dollars via bitcoin... you might pay fees half as much) Your friend trusts you, so he shouldn't be in a rush to get this payment confirmed. You can use a low fee. Another solution to pay less in fees is to bundle transactions, it reduces the fee per output. For example, I received this transaction today. It paid $5 in fees, and sent funds to over 50 different addresses. Another option to use lower fees is using SegWit addresses.

I must say I'm less amused with Bittrex now. They (finally) limited my account, so I can only withdraw 0.025BTC (update after 3 days:) 0.000 BTC per day. I've upgraded to Basic, and after filling out their form, they tell me I need to upgrade to Enhanced. I still don't have Basic verification now. If they would have told me that instantly, I wouldn't have upgraded at all. Now they know who I am, and want an unedited picture of my ID (which my own government recommends me NOT to do!), and a selfie, which I don't feel comfortable doing. Who knows what else they require after this. I don't like the fact that they don't give a full list, but slowly add more requirements after fulfilling the first requirements! I don't want to send personal information to a company that doesn't even show who's behind it. I didn't care much before, but after I click ABOUT, I get this: This must be the worst "about" information ever typed on any website! Under that, they show this: Now I still don't know who they are.

How many blackbytes does 1 bitcoin buy you currently? still confused about trading these things.
About 800 billion, although you need to go through bytes first to buy blackbytes.

I'm totally new to this platform and I have some questions regarding bitcoin. Can anybody answer my questions so that i can understand better about bitcoin and things related to it?
1) What is bitcoin crypto currency? 2) What is meant by bitcoin mining? Is it important to mine bitcoin? 3) How trading works using bitcoin?
1. See https://bitcoin.org/en/, it has a nice video that explains the basics about Bitcoin. 2. See the same link. 3. Your question is too generic, trading in general: buy low, sell high. What made you decide to create an account on a site about Bitcoin if you don't know what Bitcoin is? May I suggest you read a bit first, then ask more accurate questions about the things that are not clear?

can we use ChipMixer vouchers ~ as payment, trade buy/sell for fiat, and etc Yes. of course both parties should know how to do it and won't held ChipMixer responsible for any misuse If Bob gives Alice a ChipMixer voucher, Bob can still access it. Alice should instantly redeem the voucher at ChipMixer. After that, she can get a new voucher that only she knows (or use ChipMixer to get private keys). The only problem I see here is that Bob can never prove he paid Alice. An on-chain transaction can prove payment, a voucher leaves no trace. This is of course by design. the only downside is fixed chip sizes and requires trust both parties on each other and ChipMixer too
Vouchers can be any size.

You're new to Bitcointalk, and don't seem like the typical spammer. That's much appreciated, so welcome Some advice: If you're the last to post on Bitcointalk, don't add another post, just edit the first one and add whatever you wanted to add. It reduces spam on the forum, and complies with forum rules. Now, back to Bitcoin: Be paranoid! Many people want to get your Bitcoins, many people have had their Bitcoins stolen, and many more will fall victim to theft. There are a few people I trust, but in general it's best to assume people would steal your coins if they get the chance. Don't give anybody that chance. From my current investments I have come to the conclusion that I prefer to take a hands off approach to investing and that fees can eat into your profits, so need to be minimised. I’m going to take a similar approach to Bitcoin, finding a balance between returns, effort and fees and to start with - not investing more than I can afford to lose This seems like a good approach to me. Stock market manipulation and inside trading is illegal. In Bitcoin, it just happens in plain sight! Bitcoin can easily go up and down 20% on a day. It took me a while to get used to it, now I just look at big drops as the rich (called whales) trying to get you to panic and sell cheaper. Many people who bought at the top sold $2000 lower last weekend. In case you didn't read that news: there was huge manipulation going on from the Bitcoin Cash guys, attacking Bitcoin by overloading the network with transactions, and in the end the manipulating party gets out much richer. Trading is a high risk game, where the average inexperienced newbie loses his money. My current strategy: every time Bitcoin goes up by a certain percentage, I sell a certain percentage of my holdings. I made a spreadsheet that tells me exactly when to sell. This way it doesn't hurt so much when it drops hard, and if it doubles again I still have enough left so I don't miss out on a big increase. It seems like my first step is to set up a wallet - there seem to be a lot of options for this. I think to start with I'll go for a web based one to start with, blockchain.info and coinbase are looking most likely at the moment - any preferences on the two? Or is it worth setting up both and seeing which I prefer?
I would suggest to try out different services, see what's available, and see what works for you. Everybody has their own preferences, so you'll get different suggestions every time you ask. In general, online services shouldn't be trusted long term. Thanks, too late though, I signed up with Coinbase and bought my first BTC. With fees, they seemed to be about even to other exchanges, but I still have more research to do - this was just an initial small purchase. As the amounts get bigger, I will be looking to store my coins off the exchanges.
I've never used Coinbase myself. A typical exchange charges about 0.25% fee on every transaction. My plan is to install a desktop wallet when I have some more Bitcoin, although I think Bitcoin Core may cripple my computer. Electrum does look good though.
Electrum is easy and popular. Remember to be paranoid: Use the real Electrum website, there are also fake sites that try to make you install a compromised wallet. This will steal your coins! Also remember to not trust just any link you find on the internet (including the link I just gave you: search for yourself, and verify for yourself it's the real site). Also remember: if your computer gets compromised (which happens a lot to Windows users), your wallet is compromised too. There are computer viruses out there that replace an address between your CTRL-C and CTRL-V, if you don't check carefully, you'll send your coins to someone else. I'm naturally cautious with things like this, so tried to minimise my risk by sticking to Bitcoin and well regarded exchanges with 2FA. Several exchanges have lost large amounts of Bitcoins in the past. 2FA isn't going to safe you when they lose your money. Also, many people lost access to their own 2FA, which is another problem. To read more about wallets, go here: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?In general, the safest wallets are paper wallets (for offline long-term storage) and hardware wallets (for easy access). Each wallet has it's own specific pros and cons. Bitcoin fees can get quite high nowadays. Think of Bitcoin as electronic cash: try not to collect many small coins, it will require a large fee to send them. Don't let my warnings discourage you, learn the tricks and risks, and have fun!

I've been here for around a month and I thought I could view more! There's millions of posts to view, I'm pretty sure you haven't viewed them all. Why do you want to "view more"? I need more posts Why? but how many to view this airdrop ico page i'm interested in.
If you can't view a thread, that means it's deleted. If it's deleted, that means it was breaking the rules. Did you read the rules? This thread is breaking rule #1 already: Forum rules 1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]
