2481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will bitcoin be replace by ethereum/ripple on: March 20, 2018, 07:43:16 PM
No, Bitcoin won't be replaced by either Ethereum or Ripple. They differ way to much to conquer with each other. Ethereum was created to handle smartcontracts, tokens, dApps and so on. Ethereum doesn't scale really good, it has performance issues for example during distribution of tokens of a big ICO. As far as I remember, the price of Ethereum's transaction fees surged in December thanks to the release of crypto kittens which were nothing more than just images of cats. Ripple technically was designed for payments, but I don't think anyone (beside bankers) would trust a centralized cryptocurrency. To create a Ripple wallet you have to spend 20 XRP, that's a big disadvantage for me.
2482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are crypto currencies' are far better alternative to banks? on: March 20, 2018, 07:28:35 PM
I would say that it really depends on the person. I guess that there will be people in the future who still won't be able to use software wallets or encrypt their private keys properly. They would rather put their money in the bank which will be responsible for the security of their funds. However, young generation might learn quickly how to deal with keeping cryptocurrencies safe. Banks won't be able to conquer with cryptocurrencies in terms of transaction speed and anonymity. It takes quite a long time for a wire transfer to be confirmed (especially on the weekends) where in Bitcoin you need only 10 minutes on average and high enough fee.
2483  Economy / Economics / Re: Is fall of bitcoin from 16k$ good for bitcoin and alt-crypto? on: March 20, 2018, 07:07:58 PM
Yes, at least now the transactions fees are acceptable again and we have Lightining Network's promise, [...]

I wouldn't call it a promise since it's actually working on the mainnet. Every person can download the latest lnd client which finally allows you to setup a Lightning Node on the mainnet. I'm afraid that transactions fees are going to surge right after Bitcoin price start to increase again. That's why I'm rooting for Lightning Network developers, I hope they will make it on time.
2484  Economy / Economics / Re: Is fall of bitcoin from 16k$ good for bitcoin and alt-crypto? on: March 19, 2018, 08:26:43 PM
A fall in BTC's price is never good. It can be acceptable, but it's not positive. It gives reasons to media and governments badmouth Bitcoin, saying it's very dangerous and must be regulated/banned, investors become afraid about volatility and start panic selling, also, sharing their negative experience with others, who will also become afraid of investing in BTCs.

Let's be honest, nobody (from crypto community) doesn't care about what media say about Bitcoin. We have already learned that we shouldn't listen to them because they always spread FUD and information and they will always do it. Journalists don't do enough research or invite some "well-known economists" who will try to prove that Bitcoin is a financial pyramid without using reasonable arguments.

I'm positive about this dip. A lot of people have been complaining about extremely high transaction fees which are now low (1 sat/b). It's now a perfect time to wait patiently for Lightning Network to become more widely adopted.
2485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good news for bitcoin as G20 says no crackdown for cryptocurrencies on: March 19, 2018, 05:54:35 PM
I hope after this good news crypto rates will be back normal again that I hope more than highest record.

It is definitely some good news, but it won't be enough to make investors calm. However, it looks like thanks to the G20, Bitcoin price increased by around $1000 dollars. There is no point in Bitcoin reaching $20.000 again if we won't be prepared for that. I wouldn't like to pay $20 for a transaction, again. Give our community and the developers some time. Last months were very exciting, we have to cool down a bit.
2486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking at posts from 2010 compared to now on: March 19, 2018, 04:40:40 PM
Yeah true, but this is the inevitable effect of the popularity. Especially when most people knew Bitcoin because media put it as "best investment in a year—10,000% gain!". I don't blame the media completely though, just thinking that this is simply inevitable. TBH people who complain and got worried about the price are kinda annoying though I mean hey this is not an investment, Bitcoin is an experimental project.

That's something new. I don't usually browse popular media so I didn't have a chance to see such headline. So far, I have seen articles that warned people against investing in Bitcoin since it's a bubble. No further explanation, just some opinion of "economist" who usually provides information for certain website.

While it is true that most of bitcointalk became bloated with huge amount of people who are spamming only because they want to earn money, there are still sections where you can find useful information and discuss with other, competent members.
2487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Incorrect Address transaction. ETH to ETH classic Address! on: March 18, 2018, 06:01:05 PM
If you had access to the private key, you wouldn't have any problem with recovering your ETH. You would have to switch the node on MyEtherWallet and then enter your private key. Since you used third party service you should contact their support and describe your issue in detail. They shouldn't have any problem with recovering your money, but they might charge you an extra fee. Don't worry, it isn't as difficult as recovering BCH sent to BTC address starting with 3 (SegWit).
2488  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Running bitcoin node with LN hub on a Raspberry Pi 3 on: March 18, 2018, 05:46:28 PM
I'm running lightningd instead of lnd but my configuration is very similar: rasperry pi 3 + external HDD for full blockchain. Everything works fine so far.

Could you tell me what is the CPU and RAM usage when everything you need to run a full node is turned on? Can you still use the device for browsing the Internet while everything is running in the background? I was thinking of buying the latest Raspberry Pi 3B+ but I would to know more before doing so. I don't really need a full node since I use a hardware wallet but I would like to support Bitcoin network and try running a Lightning Network node on the mainnet.
2489  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: new trezor T vs trezor on: March 18, 2018, 05:01:30 PM
Anymore review about T Model?

I know mostly the pre-order (1st batch & 2nd batch) already reach you. And myself is on the way. Just want to to know in advance before i try it myself

Actually, I got my device from the third batch on the 9th March. I created a thread some time ago where I am waiting for someone to ask me questions about the latest TREZOR device. I have already answered a couple of questions here. If you have any questions feel free to send me a private message. I can provide you fresh information since this model is still being constantly updated. For example, custom home screen function has just been enabled.

The thread I mentioned before: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3094887.msg31950756#msg31950756
2490  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Wallets on: March 18, 2018, 04:47:56 PM
So far so good that wallet and hopefully it will long last not good to store your bitcoin in a long term. Also, blockchain.info is good to use wallet I think this decentralized website.

No, blockchain.info is definitely not a good wallet to start with. It might be user friendly, especially for new people who haven't used cryptocurrencies, but it isn't secure at all. Some people reported problem with disappearing funds from their accounts, even though they had separate password for their service. A lot of people are complaining about high fees, I wouldn't use it for long-term investments. If you are looking for a wallet which you could use on your mobile phone then there are many good alternatives which at least gives you your private key or seed.
2491  Economy / Economics / Re: Why are people doing so many things to frustrate crytocurrency on: March 16, 2018, 08:15:46 PM
I don't see anything wrong with the ban of cryptocurrencies advertisements on popular platforms. Many of them were advertising things such as "Earn 1 Bitcoin per week" or some similar clickbait ads which usually lead to scam cloud mining services or exchanges with low volume. But we have to think for a moment if it was the real purpose of banning this kind of ads. Would they normally care so much about that if someone didnt't force them? I guess we will never know the truth.
2492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining on today's prices on: March 16, 2018, 07:15:41 PM
Is it still profitable to mine Bitcoin or any other crypto with today's prices? Is it also advisable to invest in mining? With all other expenses like electric bill etc., looks like miners are having a bad time to earn.
Unfortunately, it's true. Mining is not that efficient anymore, low prices, higher difficulty = less earnings (I am talking for Altcoin mining). I've been getting 1/3rd of what I used to on a regular basis and it wasn't that long before. During Christmas, there was a significant spike in miner earnings, I was astonished.

I am actually planning to shut down my rig any time soon, it's currently becoming not worth my time.

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you decide to hold the coins you have mined. I used to mine altcoins a few months ago, right after a lot of people started mining so it quickly became unprofitable. However, due to Bitcoin price surging, my mining equipment paid off faster than I expected when I bought it. In the end, I decided to sell my equipment and buy some bitcoins instead since it became more profitable.
2493  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you believe is needed for crypto currencies to be mass adopted? on: March 16, 2018, 06:43:57 PM
A better understanding so that people would clearly understand how it works and somehow dismiss all the
negative issues, that seems to draw people out.

I think that's the biggest issue for now. Many people still don't understand what are cryptocurrencies and why we even need them. Ordinary people don't have enough time or don't want to learn about how economy works in general. I'm not an expert but at least I understand basic terms such inflation which many people confuse with deflation or something else. Transaction fees became really low recently, however, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't work on other solutions.
2494  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Wallets on: March 16, 2018, 06:24:44 PM
For online wallets, blockchain is quite good, just secure it properly and if you can afford a hardware wallet then get one because it's much safer and reliable.

Using web wallets is a common mistakes which many newbies make. I must admit that they are really convenient to use but they are not secure at all. Blockchain doesn't let you to view or manage your own private key which is later used for signing transactions. Try to use Electrum, Armory or Bitcoin Core if you don't want to spend any money on a hardware wallet or if you are waiting for one to be delivered. Even if your hardware wallet dies, you still will be able to recover your bitcoins using seed given on the first wallet setup. If you really want to use a web wallet then go for GreenAddress.it
2495  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you believe is needed for crypto currencies to be mass adopted? on: March 15, 2018, 09:35:15 PM
Unfortunately, to many illegal deals are proceeding involving cryptocurrencies.

Don't be ridiculous. It is true that cryptocurrencies are used for illegal things but we have remember that fiat, gold and other valuable things are more common when it comes to doing anonymous, illegal payments.

Knowledge always helps people making their right choice. You are right - if Bitcoin is taught in schools, more persons will understand how it is important.

Not necessarily, I doubt that every single student will understand the purpose of cryptocurrencies' existence. There are still many people who don't know what inflation and deflation is, even though it was taught in the school. Also, I met people who actually didn't see anything wrong with printing additional money. I'm terrified how people became so naive.
2496  Other / Archival / Re: [Discussion] LND 0.4-beta on: March 15, 2018, 08:58:03 PM
Someone has create a similar thread in the Bitcoin discussion section: thread

Well, it is a step forward but we are still far from mass adoption of Lightning Network. Many people don't even know about SegWit, so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know about Lightning Network either. Does anyone know any popular services which accept Lightning Network payments? I would like to buy something useful with it.
2497  Economy / Services / Re: BitWhisk.io ✦ new Bitcoin mixing service ✦ testers evaluations on: March 15, 2018, 08:24:54 PM
I was given another 1 mBTC to test bech32 transactions and I am glad to say that everything works perfect. BitWhisk.io didn't have any problem with receiving from my bech32 address and then sending to another one. Everything went smooth and I got my mixed coins after a moment.
2498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning is Live ! on: March 15, 2018, 07:43:44 PM
Another huge step forward after SegWit adoption surged. However, it is still a beta software which could have some critical bugs which could lead to the loss of money. That's why previous releases were configured for the testnet.

Big day for bitcoin, Lightning goes live on mainnet!

Actually, Lightning Network was available earlier on the mainnet, most of the LN clients were supporting only testnet to prevent loss of precious coins.

I still think that a better scaling solution is 2GB blocks   Wink

And why is that? Even with Lightning Network we will still need to increase the blocksize in the future. It was designed to handle microtransactions, it takes about 10 minutes for a block to mined whereas LN is almost instant.
2499  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor and Ledger on: March 15, 2018, 06:57:30 PM
What you see as mistake or deficiency for me it is completely the opposite.I do not see that because Ledger support much more coins means that it is somewhat insecure in some way.Maybe it is more interesting to hackers, but I doubt that Trezor has a bit more security just because support less coins.

I have owned Ledger Nano S and had huge problems with increasing load times of their wallet. They should focus more on improving their infrastructure rather than on starting supporting more coins which will only cause overload of their servers. How does it work now? Did they improve their service? Also, Ledger doesn't release any updates for their Ledger Blue which was lately discontinued. What about these customers? Their wallet doesn't support as many cryptocurrencies as Ledger Nano S.
2500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So two things... on: March 14, 2018, 08:20:00 PM
better choose "nicehash" if you want to get Bitcoins

To be more specific, he wouldn't be mining Bitcoin directly but altcoins and then paid equivalent in BTC. Also, I would be more careful with Nicehash, did they pay people for their work after they got hacked? As other people mentioned here, mining Bitcoin with GPUs is no longer profitable. He should consider buying ASIC miner but honestly, I wouldn't buy it anytime soon since Bitmain could release a new model and then the old would become unprofitable (or it wouldn't pay off quickly).
