2501  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Help on: July 18, 2022, 05:29:48 PM
Does anyone know what this error message means precisely and why we get it when there is no connection to the network?
You can see the code for the best_effort_reliable function which generates this error here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/ed65f335bd44c3430581c47e78db0a041540aa5c/electrum/network.py#L845. Essentially it tries multiple times to make a request, and then fails if it is unable to do so.

There has been an issue raised about the vagueness of this error message, but it generate no discussion and has not been actioned: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/5815. There are more reasons it can fail other than just "not connected" though.
That's sad for users, they deserve a really more user-friendly and explicit message when a tx broadcast fails because of a connection failure IMO. The "Not connected" status is displayed on the bottom of the main screen of Electrum but unfortunately the screen for sending transactions covers it when it pops up. So I don't think the average Joe understands a network failure has happened when he get this message. If the network status is displayed I suppose it could be quite easily checked before or after the raising of this error and a more understandable error message could be written consequently.

Hello, i wanna ask what happened with that site?
Long time ago support was helpful and professional and now?
I am on gambling on stake/primedice for more than 8 years and i never had such a bad experience.
Mods muted you for how long they want and for what they want.
ZoranR gived me 30days ban for saying "Zoran is fucking edward". 30 days Smiley Smiley Smiley Serbian snowflake without rules.
ZoranR i wonder what kind of ban you gave for saying that MICRO start as beggar ? PerM?
Who is Zoran? The serbian chat moderator? He's just a chat moderator or he also belongs to the Easygo/Stake staff and he's doing more serious things for the company? Why do you say he "is f*** Edward" precisely? He is doing shady things behind his back according to you, that's what you mean? Is MV aware of that? Send me a PM if you don't want to reply here.

Does anyone know what this error message means precisely and why we get it when there is no connection to the network?
What is a 'Best effort request' exactly please?
I didn't see my connection was lost because the window for broadcasting transactions is displayed above the one displaying the network status of Electrum.
So it would more convenient for users to get a more explicit message when a transaction can't be broadcasted because of a network failure IMO.

2504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Two person having the same seed phrase on: July 17, 2022, 09:57:50 PM
My question is what if cryptocurrency continues to exist in the next 100 years is it possible for anyone who create a wallet to continue have a different Seed phrase?

It's possible, but it's not probable. But within next 100 years, it's likely we'll see new version of seed phrase which designed to be more secure (as in harder to brute force).
All that is needed to make something more difficult to brute force is a larger scope of possible inputs. The number of potential seed phrases is large enough that it is very unlikely that someone will ever be able to brute force an existing seed. In order for a seed to be "more secure", it will need to be more difficult to find the seed via some means other than brute force.

A seed phrase is basically a 128 bit number. Nobody is going to get someone else's seed if they use proper random numbers.
The problem is that it is very difficult to know if the process of generating a number (seed) is in fact random. In other words, it is difficult to test that a procedure generates a random number.
Yes you're right, but for example you can already increase your entropy by using more than 128 bits (which is 12 words) for your seeds. There are 2256 private keys and 2160 bitcoin addresses. It means you wont be able to generate all addresses and/or private keys with a 12 word seed, and the entropy of your keys and adresses will be reduced from the full capacity of Bitcoin. If you are looking for more entropy and security, it's certainly a good idea to use seeds with at least 160 bits (ie 15 words).
2505  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Two person having the same seed phrase on: July 17, 2022, 09:19:30 PM
That's not true. There's nothing wrong with "pseudo" random number generators. If they're meant for cryptographic use (see CSPRNG[1]) and they're properly "seeded" (i.e. with full entropy), then they're just as good as "true" random number generators.

As John von Neumann said "Anyone who considers arithmetical methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin."

That's a great von Neumann quote, and he's right, of course, but he was thinking of simple techniques like his middle-square[2] method. CSPRNGs are a different beast altogether.

[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographically_secure_pseudorandom_number_generator

[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-square_method
But what do you mean precisely by "if they're properly "seeded" (i.e. with full entropy)"? You mean if they are using a physical source of entropy(randomness)?  Roll Eyes (from the hardware of the computer for example).  At the end it doesn't really differ from using a physical source of randomness directly.
Anyway my point was not to mathematically compare the entropy of those two methods between them but to remind that bugs/flaws can occur in any programs.
2506  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Vanity Address(es) on: July 17, 2022, 08:58:12 PM
Yes it's pretty old fashioned and outdated, that's why it's surprising you haven't heard about it before while you are an old Hero member from 2016, it is not recommended to use this kind of address because it viciously encourages to use the same address again and again for anything and to even send back your change to it. I think it's better to only reserves it for signing messages to prove your identity, but even for this use case there are disadvantages since people knowing you are using a vanity address are less likely to carefully check the address if an attacker use a vanity address to impersonate you.

Forum account hacking attempt, I received a personal massage with a fake forum link from user tuannguyentn1 that he made a reply to my comment, on clicking the link I was taken to fake forum log in page requesting my password on checking the URL I discovered it is a hacking attempt aimed at stealing my password, both old and new members should be careful because the rate of Bitcointalk account hacking is on the increase. I will share all the link including screenshots, I hope user tuannguyentn1 get red trust Dt2 member to save other from falling victim to this hacker.

Screenshot of message including the fake link:

Screenshot of redirected page

If you look at the second screenshot closely you will discover the address in the address bar is not Bitcointalk

So once you fall victim by inputting your forum password your details will be stolen and your account gone.
That's really sad to hear those kinds of things, did you try to speak with him? What he was expecting to do with a newbie account precisely? I really don't understand what those guys are looking for. Are you sure it was a human at least and not a bot? As it has been said please report the PM to moderators.
I quote your post to show the pictures to everybody.
2508  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Two person having the same seed phrase on: July 17, 2022, 08:00:59 PM
This myth must be sitting deep in the subconscious of every bitcoiner and makes worry about the safety of their cryptocurrency. Thanks to your calculations and detailed explanation, I hope Y3shot (and others who are interested in this) will stop worrying about the same seed phrases.
This is not a myth, it has already happened in some wallets because of bugs in the PRNG process.
https://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-app-blockchain-issues-critical-update-random-number-bug-security-breakdown-android-2015-6

And since PRNG means Pseudo Random Number Generator, it will certainly happen in future again. As John von Neumann said "Anyone who considers arithmetical methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin."
That's why it's better to use physical randomness, but even with it there is no absolute guarantee nobody will get the same result as you and then the same seed as you one day.

2510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help needed with Blockchain.com, please? on: July 16, 2022, 09:58:16 PM
Just few reasons why you should not use blockchain.com wallet (or any other web wallet):
Blockchain.com issue
Oops! Something went wrong while executing the BTC on-chain transaction.
Blockchain.info forgotten password
Blockchain.com - Makes things difficult to send BTC, am I the only one?
blockchain.com - options not available
Take a look at the Web Wallets sub-board and you will find many more (I picked few topics randomly from the first page!)

Since you have already imported your private keys into blockchain.com, they are no longer cold wallets! I highly recommend creating a new wallet with Electrum and sending the remain coins to it. Check this guide if you want to use Electrum as cold storage:
https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html
Yes but don't forget blockchain.com is also offering earnings for holding(staking) cryptos on their rewards accounts and a pretty large exchange where you can do margin trading and selling or buying cryptos against fiat. It is not anymore the simple web wallet it used to be, and people don't use it as a simple wallet for holding or spending their funds anymore IMO.
2511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rakeback and promotions for limited time on: July 16, 2022, 07:00:32 PM
Do you take advantage of these features or do you think they don't worth? Do you have any strategies to play and increase your profit through rakeback or do you just ignore it? By your experience, have rakeback ever been profitable for you?

Do not play for rakeback but take it as a side bonus from your gambling activity only.
Rakeback is a good offer and it may give you something back based on a formula (can be different from a site to another).
No matter you are losing or winning, you'll receive some rakeback but as what I said earlier it should be taken as bonus and do not take it as one of your gambling purposes.
Coming up to strategies to increase your rakeback is simply by wager as much as possible, but bear in mind that the more you wager/play the higher chance for you to lose.
No in some casinos the rakeback/cashback bonuses consist of a percentage of the losses only. Then if you've only won during your session you won't get any rakeback. It reduces the House Edge at the end but not in an easy predictable way since you can't guess if your session will be a good or a bad one, but it's better for high volatility games IMO. Unlike rakebacks purely based on your wager amount, no matter if you get winnings or losses, from which you can more easily calculate the reduction of the house edge.
eg if you wager 10mbtc with 4% HE and 1% rakeback you will get a net 3% HE at the end

10 x 4% = 0.4 mbtc
10 x 1% = 0.1 mbtc
0.4 - 0.1 = 0.3 mbtc = 10 x 3%

2513  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Gambling companies can get more users to deposit. on: July 16, 2022, 12:24:28 PM
This post is based on the article published on the source: Source

The source explores how around 49% of the users would deposit more money based on better withdrawal options. Apparently, the survey conducted by US firms explored various areas that stands really important for people.

The key import things in there were :
1. Choice
2. Experience
3. Privacy
4. Preference

They explored a new idea where having a player, having a traffic doesn't necessarily mean that the site got a new player, they generally didn't account it for until and unless they have made a ' Deposit '

Which necessarily improved when the Gambling platforms had more withdrawal options, things Like: PayPal, Debit Card, Online Gambling, Cash app, Gift card etc. Having the freedom of having so many options improved the players willing to deposit money by almost 49%!!

This is certainly something that the Gambling companies do have to look into since this will go long way, thus changes needs to be made, What do you think, how important this option is for you?
As expected Paypal is the favorite option and the second one is Debit card. I think gamblers favor those two options because if anything goes wrong with the casino they can initiate a dispute at the PayPal resolution center or file a chargeback at their credit card issuer and can get few other insurances against scams with their debit cards. It could be a guarantee against abuses of some untrustworthy offshore casinos.

2514  Economy / Gambling / Re: Drake vs Stake part 2 on: July 16, 2022, 10:31:51 AM
Is just a part of their marketing strategy, they pay millions to Drake for this kind of promotions, it doesn't matter if they lose all their balance if the job is to gamble and they get a payment for that job.

For anyone who thinks that was real i you recommend you to watch this video:

The Puppets of Online Gambling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObDAXqg9O3U

Whilst it might be true that it's not 100% genuine, and so on - still, Stake pays winners, they don't scam winners on their site.

You got websites like 1XBit that don't pay winners, simply locking their accounts and blaming them for violating their T&C.

So yes - what this guy on Youtube says is in a way correct, nonetheless it's better to use a valid website that wants to make you its puppet - than use a scam website that will steal your money no matter what your bets yield, win or lose.
No Stake is not freely paying the winners without doing strange things I can currently testify about that unfortunately  Undecided And it seems to be one of the reasons why they are badly rated by several casino reviewers sites now (5.2/10 by Askgamblers, 3.7/5 by GamblingBro, B- by Peeps Place, etc)

2516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1BTC (69,000 loaves) ≠ 1BTC (20,000 loaves) if Bitcoin is a currency on: July 15, 2022, 09:32:57 PM
No, 1btc will only equal 1btc if the person don't value btc from the fiat perspective, no matter how hard you try to console yourself with this mantra it doesn't change the fact that the usd value of btc has dropped by some percentage. You don't necessary needs to hodl if you have this believe of 1btc=1btc, the fiat value does not matter, all that matters is your satoshi which you are willing to spend at whatever price btc is trading.
If you value btc in usd, 1btc = 1btc won't comfort you, all you see is how much in usd your portfolio has dropped.
He hasn't made that precisely because he did value Bitcoin in goods (loaves of bread precisely) and not in USD or any fiat currency. And I think in all countries of the world what he is saying is true, you won't be able to buy anything, goods or services, at the same price in BTC as 6 months ago. The best way to avoid this loss of value IMO, is to use your fiat currencies instead of your bitcoins during bear markets, but unfortunately nobody knows if we are still in a bear market or if the current level of price will stay like that for a long time.
2517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This clearly damage the gambling. on: July 15, 2022, 08:26:46 PM
I really think this damage the trust in the sports bets , or anything related to the sport gambling, i know a lot can say its a kind of protest but still really unclear.
No, it does not damage the trust. It's known to all. If you are in gambling then you should know that it's always high risk to gamble in lower leagues. Match fixing is very common in those leagues. If you gamble on those leagues then go against the favorite but do not put a lot of money.
Did you encounter success by doing that? Or do you know someone making profits with this strategy? Because it doesn't make sense to systematically choose the underdog in those matches IMO. Matches are not always fixed for a win of the underdog, they are also fixed for a victory of the favorite.
2518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reasons why people avoid KYC in gambling casino ? on: July 15, 2022, 08:15:41 PM
Unfortunately that is what we're facing now, we choose to play in them because of the anonymity they can bring but these days, it's already a different story as most casinos now are asking us for details to approve the withdrawal of our winnings. I agree, yes, casinos are just obeying and implementing the orders of the authorities but these platforms that are implementing it cannot certainly deny that they are also taking advantage of these KYC's.
There are many complaints against various casinos that they are not giving winning money to players on the pretext of kyc. But this should not have been the case for a player to find himself in such a situation. So the way the casinos are operating in the market now and the way the casino team asks for kyc if a player wins big, it is necessary to be mentally prepared before joining any casino that kyc may be required at any time.
Your post is a little bit dubious ScamViruS, are you saying those to blame are not the scammers but are the victims? What victims should have concretely done according to you? Because I don't understand how being mentally prepared would avoid casinos to scam you by asking non-existent documents to withdraw your winnings?

Congratulations on your “base” winnings. Well though you have won basic rewards I believe it’d still good. If you keep collecting RP like this then it will ultimately be converted into satoshi once you reach minimum conversion amount. So be positive about it.

In addition to this, keep betting this will increase both, your % in free roll base reward which can go upto 190 satoshi per free roll. Plus you get cashback though its small its something.

So just keep rolling.

In order to reach 190 satoshi per free roll, you already need to wager quite a lot and with the house edge, you will always loose money. You also get RP that compensates its a bit and based on the premium membership also a small cashback, but it doesn't add to the risk in my eyes.
Don't forget that bonuses are regularly offered at the multiply btc game, and CMIIW it divides by 2 the HE when you take them if you are a regular gambler because the balance used to gamble is freely doubled. https://freebitco.in/site/bonus-terms/
Moreover you forgot to take into account the lottery tickets earned.

When it comes to review sites then the places i do only trust is

Btcgosu
GamblingBro
and the rest are shit and biased.....

This is why its really important on making yourself aware on whats happening around when it comes to those false recommendations and i have seen of them which do really market or promote 1xbit
which the entire community knows about on how shady and scammy this site is.
Trust is the most important thing but it doesnt really need much effort on at least making up some research before you do make out some deposit.
Dont rush up yourself because this forum itself or alone would be enough for you to find things which are legit and reputable.
Why do you say Btcgosu is perfect and the rest are shit and biased? You should distrust Peeps Place if you think he is "shit and biased".
Btcgosu is putting Stake at the first rank with 5/5 stars while advertising it and while it is rated 5.2/10 by Askgamblers, B- by Peeps Place and 3.7/5 by GamblingBro, so I'm not sure it is totally unbiased unfortunately  Undecided
