1701  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: January 06, 2023, 11:08:33 PM

Again, I'm just saying that the premise in the OP saying to 'bet once then nothing' sets the noobs the wrong idea about EV.  Sure it's the right spot to take but then what?  What if the bet loses?  What's the explanation that it was the right spot to take...  Where's the realizing EV part?

Ok..  Maybe I jumped the gun too fast by saying the premise is wrong.  It's more like it's incomplete.  As you may already know, EV is only realized over a large sample.  So yeah..

No worries. I do understand where you're coming from. It's just that EV have a different weight depending on circumstances: for a set up when you have unlimited bet attempts and unlimited bankroll - you'd be happy to go for it even if the EV was +0.000001 because you're guaranteed to make a profit (excluding the time factor). But for one-time event, or even for situation when you have limited bankroll and can only place X number of bets - that's where things get complicated, and that's what this thread is about.
Yes that's why you should understand that many people here, mostly none/small gamblers, see that as a trap or a bad deal at least. Because they've certainly experienced bankruptcy of their bank roll in the past by gambling on high odds bets or by playing slots with high volatility, without taking care of the risk management of their bankroll. It's not easy to do at all to be honest, even when you are quite experienced in gambling. Because losing streaks are not predictable unfortunately.
1702  Economy / Gambling / Re: Slot Games' RTP, variable?? on: January 06, 2023, 10:34:07 PM
I think they do everything to make you lose, look at those people who are gambling, they all are broke and addcited.
If they all would be broke there wouldn't be any gamblers. Winnings come with the territory as same as losses. That's why people gamble. They wouldn't get addicted or gambled at all if they didn't win as well. Some people just don't have any risk management and they don't cut their losses but gamble everything. These people would gamble on high leveraged markets is there wasn't slots around.
I agree with you, statistics from casinos and independent scientific studies show that most of people stop when they begin to lose too much money because of the human loss aversion. Random people feel more pain when they lose than they feel pleasure when they win, that's why they usually stop gambling before getting critical losses that can get them into real troubles and way before getting addicted. So people "broke and addicted" are just a minority of gamblers (and traders). Actually studies show that "only" between 5% and 8% of gamblers are addicted.

A study from Standford university has confirmed that by monitoring gamblers behaviors in a real casino.

Quote
Is gambling an addiction or a form of entertainment? Mostly the latter, according to a new academic study that found evidence that most people have strict “loss thresholds” they will not cross when gambling.

“Most of them won’t play after a certain threshold of loss has been reached. They tend to be conscious that, in the long run, they are more likely to lose than win.”

This is why Narayanan is personally convinced gambling is, for the vast majority of people, entertainment. “It’s like going to the movies. They set a budget, and enjoy the time that passes while they spend it. It’s not a completely irrational activity.”

“This is the first empirical study to test this theory on real-world gambling decisions, and we find that people are two or three times more averse to losses than satisfied with wins. This is also consistent with what other researchers have found in studies conducted in the lab.”

This.

We are reading your shared knowledge and we appreciate it. It is always good to have someone share their thoughts and give facts to the subject.  Any additional knowledge is always welcome Smiley.

Anyway, I ended at the rank 30 bracket again on the Weekly Crypto Crunch, use it to play on the platform but sadly got no good results my favorite slots aren't too generous during my session. Midweek Special - Baccarat Battle is about to end in 30 hrs.  Make sure to opt-in if you intend to play the game for the ranking.
Congratulations for your top 30 achievement at the Crypto Crunch Tournament mate, with all the bonuses and promotions they were offering since the World Cup, the contest wasn't easy at all. Now the promotions have ended, I guess it will be more simple to reach the highest positions in the coming weeks with lower wagering totals.
Regarding the Midweek Special - Baccarat Battle I don't try to do it most of the time, because the prize pool ($500 shared by 10players) is not very high while you need to wager rather high amounts to reach the smallest position(10th) for a $10 prize.

congrats on your Legend achievement mate.
it's okay that you lost a lot of money last year but you have achieved what you have set your goal. and I hope that in 2023 you can achieve the next goal to raise your rank to a higher level.
to be honest, I already have an account at Livecasino.io, but I haven't had the chance to bet here yet and I decided to try betting on roulette, but I will do it next week.
I hope we can meet at roulette later.
Thank you bro, see you there so.

I think @OP is complaining about the unrecognition of his wagering to reserve a bonus amount since it was established that he is one of the VIP that wagered the most in the said event.  I also think that there is a criteria he is missing.  If the event is for Platinum and above player only then no matter how huge @OP wagered, he will never qualify for the bonus.
According to what ryzaadit and Mahdirakib are saying this is not an official promotion or bonus with any public criteria. This is just a reward secretly sent to so-called "Top Players of The Month". Actually, it must be just a commercial reward to keep profitable high rollers there(that is to say, high rollers losing money) and to encourage them to continue to gamble large amounts, especially after big losses.

Guys site working now please check and go ahead good luck.
Same for me, I can access the website again without any problem now. My BTC balance along with the FUN, RP and WOF free spins ones, seem to be ok. My bets are still here, and my premium benefits too. So everything seem to be normal for me as of now. It should be just a small maintenance of the servers I guess.

Arsenal yes, Saints nope. Want to say Spurs surprised me but they're hardly a stranger to inconsistent results, are they? And Gunners fighting back with 3 quick goals (Saka!!), not missing Jesus at all.

@buwaytress (or someone else) have you already been able to claim one prize since the launch of this promotion? What reward did you get please? Because the prizes we can win are not mentioned in the Terms & Conditions neither anywhere else and I have no clue of what they could be. 150mbtc in one day is not an amount I regularly wager there, so I'm curious if this promotion could be interesting for me or not.

Afraid not. Just haven't had the time this holiday season to do even more than just a couple of sports bets here and there. I do remember the last time I did this kind of drop, the reward was about 5-10% of the wager amount, in the form of a freechip. But you might be able to get an answer from support or from someone in Club Talk.
Finally I've managed to wager those 150 mbtc in one day, to see what kind of surprise gift there were offering, and I got a $20 free bet for the Clubhouse Blackjack game at the end. Currently 150mbtc is worth $2500, so unfortunately it's less than 5-10% of the wagering amount (0.8% for me precisely) even if I wasn't expecting such high amount to be honest. There are certainly bigger gifts to win but I'm not sure to be able to wager such amount again before the end of the promotion.

Anyone else getting a 502?

Thanks.
We get the same error and it seems that all freebitcoin users also experience it and not just us, only this time the error lasts quite a long time because usually some time the website can be accessed immediately without problems, I tried checking on the freebitcoin twitter page and there was an announcement that they are doing maintenance https://twitter.com/freebitco/status/1610587269764911104 so we have to patiently wait for it to finish
Thank you for giving us the link of this tweet, because their servers seem to be shutdown since several hours now, and I was starting to really wondering what was going on, because the message from Cloudfare "Bad gateway Error code 502" is not explicit at all. Anyway I hope it's not a serious thing, and everything will be back quickly. At least to be able to access to our balance, the faucet and the other games are less critical.

1713  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private key from biometric data? on: January 02, 2023, 11:49:55 AM
Biometric identification is not new, it's used since many years in many serious areas and no big issues had been reported concerning that matter afaik.
I wouldn't say no big issues. There have been facial scanners which have been fooled by a simple photo of the subject. Someone was able to bypass an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner simply by taking a photo of the necessary fingerprint with his phone and then 3D printing a replica, in a process that took him under 3 minutes - https://imgur.io/gallery/8aGqsSu. Biometrics are not secure.
I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about keeping constant or at least keeping working your biometric ID, as I said it's used since many years in critical areas, for critical things with no public issues reported about that. If the system wasn't reliable it means it would be dangerous to travel abroad with a biometric passport, as it could prevent you from being able to return in your own country.
If you use alternatively 2 or 3 different biometric criteria for the same access/key I don't think anyone could consider it as unreliable. Someone losing his 2 eyes, all his fingers and his voice the same day, is less likely to happen than a bank losing your datas and preventing you from accessing your funds. And I'm not talking about losing the medium(mostly a sheet of paper) where people are storing their seeds currently. So a multisig wallet system or something similar seems to be more than enough for this purpose IMO.

1714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private key from biometric data? on: January 01, 2023, 09:57:37 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a question related to building a private key based on biometric data.

Is it possible to build a reproducible ID, or string of characters, from a bunch of biometric measurements?
Given the fact that biological systems (humans in that case), evolve, get damaged, etc..

In the end, is it possible to make a reproducible private key from biometric data?
Because, a private key needs to be unique and constant, as far as i know.

Thanks!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for the answers, but I have neither mentionned bitcoin, fingerprints, nor the intended application, so please do not over interpret my question.

Any biological system is evolving over time, getting damaged, etc... One might be tempted to say that it is impossible to produce a constant string of caracters from such an evolving system. However, because producing the string is an immesse reduction of information, I think it is theoretically possible to create a string that would be constant despite the evolving system.

If you would know of any papers on the subject, I would gladly read them, thanks!
I don't think the main issue is to be able to keep constant your biometric ID. Biometric identification is not new, it's used since many years in many serious areas and no big issues had been reported concerning that matter afaik. Moreover I don't think it would be very inconvenient to change your key/seed and your wallet every 10 or 15 years(biometric passports are usually valid for 10 years), it would even be a good thing for your crypto safety actually.
But what is to care about here is the entropy(randomness) of the private keys generated this way IMO. Because if the entropy is too weak, hackers will be able to identify ranges of keys likely to be generated and used, and will be able to concentrate their computing power on them. The strength of BTC private keys is too be highly unpredictable and independent from each other. Initially, guessing a random private key is in the same order of magnitude as guessing the geodetic coordinates of a random atom in the whole universe, that won't be the case anymore with a system like that I think.
1715  Economy / Gambling / Re: What sort of Weekly & Monthly Bonuses do Bitcointalk members want? on: January 01, 2023, 09:28:35 PM
Weekly tournament that involves winning rate percentage or wager volume with multiple winners is what I really like to see on the casino promotion in weekly basis. My current casino offers this kind of tournament that rewards to 100 user a USDT in exchange for a certain amount of wagering requirements.

A special promotion too on Blackjack tables and free spin is what I like too as special promotion in addition to the weekly tournament. I believe that I already browse Punt last time but I failed to pursue playing because bonus code that you offer is only limited to few user.
I agree with you, I also prefer tournaments with multiple prizes than a simple rakeback bonus sent each week or each month. Tournaments give more activity to the casino and more incentive to gamble to players IMO. Personally my favorite ones are total bets count tournaments, because high rollers have no advantage over other players in this kind of contest.

I wouldnt say that exactly but sometimes there will be better periods of luck, I'm still waiting for my 10x 5000 win day on just a normal set of rolls.  Earlier I used 40 rolls and got no good results especially, all base rewards which cant be called bad just normal luck and nothing specially better unfortunately that is normal.   But Im patient and I have won several Golden tickets in a row previously so cant complain as thats fairly exceptional.   So I've noticed any exceptional difference recently but congrats to those that have been lucky.

I won the FUN price bet, simple enough and the BTC price also ended flat looks like too simple I skipped that one this time.   For Jan I have to wait and see, normal trading begins this week and gives a fair better indictor but Jan can often be a stormy month we'll see.
It's not so common to meet someone not betting when it's too easy to win for him  Cheesy You don't like getting easy money STT? Unfortunately I bet on 3 ranges of the BTC price, and it's the one with the smallest odds that won. So I didn't make profits with this bet, it seems it wasn't so easy for everyone at the end. Luckily, I had placed a big bet of 30 mbtc on one single range of the FUN price, and a smaller one on few range of ETH price, which gave me few profits to start the year, at the end.🥂
1717  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: January 01, 2023, 08:26:30 PM
...
The thing is that we humans are not great dealing with probabilities in our minds, so the casinos and other gambling companies simply use this fact in their favor.

It's not natural to think about probabilities, we are just not good at it. On the other hand for example we are great at thinking in terms of Newtonian physics, we don't need to calculate an equation to know how to throw a rock for example, yet we can think perfectly well how to do it. For probabilities you actually have to calculate the math behind it.

True, but that being said, every (or almost every) casino goer or other gambler is at least aware that odds are not in their favour and that's not the reason they engage in gambling.

The major appeal of casinos, be it physical or online ones, is probably the entertainment and the dopamine rush, while nation-wide lotteries with huge winnings sell people hope and possibility (statistically impossible but still) of changing their lives in an instant without any effort.
Odds are not in favour of the player for any games, even for lottery games. But having a negative EV doesn't mean nobody can make profits, in the same way as positive EV doesn't mean that anyone could get losses. It just mean that thousands of bets at this game, will bring money to the casino. But those bets are usually made by several different players, and some of them could get an insane winning streak while other could get a long losing one, some can win a big bet from a big stake, while other could lose all their bank roll within an all-in bet.
There are lucky players at all games of chance, along with unlucky ones, they are just fewer when EV is negative.

Thank you, yes I've wagered a lot on Livecasino this month, but lately I got a hard losing streak and my bank roll had severely dipped. At least I managed to reach my goal, because I managed to get the Legend rank (the 6th level). When I started to gamble on Livecasino I didn't think it was feasible for me to even reach the Guru rank, so I'm very proud and happy to finish 2022 (and to begin 2023) at this rank.

Wow nice mate, glad to see this extraordinary achievement Shocked  766590 poins if 1 point is 1 EUR then I can't imagine how much your total wager
I am curious about what games you play, is slots game or live game? I'm sure it's not the dice game we used to play for wagering  Cheesy Really this is one of my targets that have not been achieved here.
766590€ in one month no, I couldn't achieve that, it would be a really insane amount, representing nearly 200 000€ wagered each week. Actually 1€ gives 5 points according to the Loyalty page. That means 1 point is worth €0.2. But once you reach the Master rank you get a 1.25x point multiplier and a 1.5x one when you are Guru. So 1€ gives 7.5 points and 1 point is worth €0.13 in a reality for a Guru. I mainly play live games : baccarat, blackjack, roulette and card games, more rarely craps and game shows, but I also play slots from time to time.

Quote
How are level points calculated?
Every time you bet the equivalent of €1, you get 5 points. Example: If your bet is worth €3, you get 15 points.
When you reach a level of higher multipliers, your points will accumulate faster.

Hal Finney's twitter came to life.

The account was revived by his wife and launched a fundraising marathon to find a cure for the illness that Hal died from. Donations are accepted in bitcoins.

Generally, it would not be good to post from the account of a deceased person; however, it seems that this situation may well be an exception to such rule based on what Hal's wife Fran had said her intentions were to make sure that Hal's account was not deleted due to lack of activity due to some recent policies and/or algorithms that Elon seems to have been implementing at Twitter.  So, therefore Fran had said that the reason that she was posting through Hal's account was to attempt to lessen the chances that Hal's Twitter account would be deleted. I cannot remember where I had heard that information, perhaps on a bitcoin-related podcast in which the topic of Hal's Twitter account was being discussed?
I don't understand why his account shouldn't be deleted. All his tweets are certainly already archived somewhere in several places, so there is no need for his account to stay alive IMO, used by someone else in addition. No one can say if he would agree with these tweets on his behalf. Moreover his account can be hacked, and used for deceiving and scamming people, like what happened with the gmx email address of Satoshi Nakamoto, and one day his tweets could even be modified by his widow or someone else if the feature becomes available.
