2521  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hello I am trying to start mining on: March 23, 2013, 12:00:13 PM
In GPU mining? No, not anymore. It's being overtaken by specialized hardware that is both fast and expensive. Bitcoin mining is now only available to the rich people.
2522  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bASIC BTC refunds list - v2.0 on: March 23, 2013, 02:23:39 AM
Haven't been keeping much up-to-date on Bitcoin and ASICs. What the hell happened with bASIC??
2523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ABC News: Man Lists Bungalow for Bitcoins on: March 23, 2013, 02:15:25 AM
Bitcoin price is not stable just yet. This sudden price increase is sure to crash soon. Those 5k bitcoins the guy wants might not be at all useful if/when the price crashes..
2524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: dumb question - I can't get an answer from either Apple or Google on: March 22, 2013, 12:09:03 AM
While I do not know anything about it, I am sure that Apple/Google will find a way to make anything like that illegal.
2525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Who would you vote for to replace Gavin, if it was needed on: March 13, 2013, 09:16:40 PM
Why is Luke-jr not listed?
2526  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 2^256 Deep Space Vagabond aka the Lost Bitcoin Finder on: March 13, 2013, 07:30:18 PM
If you download the entire blockchain it is possible to keep a copy of the balance of ALL addresses in a memcache deamon in ram. It allows you to check the balance of any address without using extra bandwidth.

I have seen setups like that to run through dictionaries looking for brain wallets.
It would take a long time to cache them all, I mean, you would need to calculate the balance of the address based on the previous transactions(if any). Then, you'd need to update it at least once per day, this cache list.
2527  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [WIP] FPGA Vanitygen on: March 12, 2013, 11:01:44 PM
For an FPGA, the numbers are low, but I guess as more work is put into it, you may be able to get it done faster than say a GPU which can typically do 30 million/s or more.
2528  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are 6 confirmations really that necessary on: March 11, 2013, 08:58:18 AM
There's nothing magic about the number 6 - it is simply an arbitrary choice of 1 hour's worth of blocks.

If you only require 1 confirmation it's very easy to perform a Finney attack.
Theory. No proof.
2529  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Announcing TimeScramble.com - FREE Bitcoin! on: March 09, 2013, 07:18:41 PM
What it does is allow you to create a message today that cannot be read until a date in the future.
And of course you will be alive and continue to run the website for the next say 50 years?
2530  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: What's the Highest Share you have found? on: March 07, 2013, 01:10:16 PM
Look at the BD column.

2531  Bitcoin / Hardware / Does anybody actually have an ASIC? on: March 07, 2013, 01:01:56 PM
If so, where is the video on YouTube? Someone like that must definitely make a video on YT.

So, anybody actually have an ASIC with proof? It's like Santa Claus, you believe in him, while he doesn't exist...
2532  Economy / Speculation / Re: OMG CRASH! on: March 07, 2013, 12:32:52 PM
Actually, I am waiting for the crash(bubble to burst).
2533  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: aVanityGen Alpha v0.2: Vanity address generator for Android. [UPDATED Sept 1] on: March 07, 2013, 12:13:05 PM
OK, been a long time, sorry for the delay. I have not worked on the application for a very long time.

Here are the sources https://mega.co.nz/#!SMlxlZDA!bqrtjn5ofRJ1Y16ePrLGvWFDolwuBm_iMTPB2lF81zc they depend on PCRE and OpenSSL(the SO bundled are OpenSSL 1.0.1c and pcre)

Meanwhile, I'd like you all to know that this was my first Android application, and first involvement with Java. Most of the initial code I wrote on my phone. Overall, as a programmer, I am not very good, my understanding of Bitcoin is that of any new person who has never heard of it, but I still attempted this project.
If you feel like the code is written horribly, which I am sure it is, feel free to fork it.

And if you find ANY problems with the code which might make the application produce insecure keys, please do patch it, and I will update my post with the changed application. I was told that by default OpenSSL uses /dev/random for getting it's entropy, but I've heard in a lot of places that /dev/random might not exist under Android, so this should be looked into.

If by chance it does produce insecure keys, do remember I've said it's in Alpha stage and you shouldn't really use the private keys produced.
2534  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Happy new year and still no ASICs! on: January 06, 2013, 04:27:55 PM
BTCFPGA also claims to have a functioning chip at this time and Avalon must either have them or be very close if they expect to meet their countdown date.

I have a chip also. Called a gpu. Custom designed by my company. U might have heard of them. Ati. Yeaaa bitches and it is mining right now.

Sounds like a gpu to me, not an ASIC.
It is an ASIC, disassemble the ATOM Bios of AMD cards and the initialization function is ASIC_Init.
2535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the greatest threat to Bitcoin? Some possible technical problem or gov? on: January 06, 2013, 09:47:48 AM
If is possible technical problem, what is this? I heard on Reddit and Facebook some worries about transfers/sec. Is it a real threat?

Thanks!

2536  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: DoS attack against the entire Bitcoin network ? on: December 23, 2012, 08:22:43 PM
This was possible but now many miners require fees for transactions whose inputs are the output of another recent transaction.  Essentially, if you don't let your coins sit for a day or two you will have to pay a fee.  If you have to pay a fee, you can only "attack" for so long because every transaction costs you a penny or so.   Additionally, the larger the transaction (in KB) the higher the fee that will be required.
Paying a fee is hard coded no matter if you have the oldest coins.
2537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: namecoind rejects works on: December 23, 2012, 12:10:29 AM
Mining with a CPU, really? You will never find a block, moreover NMC's value is so low. Basically, the difficulty is so high, thats why you are getting rejected shares.

Give up, you are wasting electricity.
2538  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MSI 5850 (ref) Volterra problem on: December 22, 2012, 11:11:54 PM
My 5850 is pretty much the same. High VRM temps, high AMPs whereas the 5870 is waaay below these temps/amps.
2539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPC CRYPTOCURRENCY ACTING FUNNY on: December 22, 2012, 07:16:29 AM
Perhaps something to do with stake?
2540  Other / Off-topic / Re: [BREAKING] Quantum Computer Hits. BFL, bASIC etc all dead. End of BTC? on: December 20, 2012, 03:59:26 PM
It likely costs more money than any of us have. Also, it could very well be a scam of some sorts.
