2541  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anonymity vs. KYC: The Pros and Cons of Cryptocurrency Exchanges on: February 20, 2023, 11:49:24 PM
KYC does good things, but they also pose a lot of harm to those submitting the KYC itself. A lot of data breaches in the past have been recorded inside and outside the cryptocurrency space. It makes up for a perfect recipe for spying people and their activities. You are giving your identity to these entities hoping that you'll get accepted to their platforms and services. What happens when these entities get hacked? Your identity is at risk of getting used by other people in malicious activities. Who gets the repercussions? Of course, no one else but you.
2542  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of Russia to Pilot CBDC in April on: February 20, 2023, 11:23:17 PM
They might make for a good case study, but I doubt they will move so far into it. They really have a lot of serious economic problems internally and I don't think CBDCs will be a saving grace for Russia. First off they have to stop whatever they're doing and focus more in developing their relations with the rest of the world. Russia has slowly been restricting themselves as the ally of communist countries, and it's not really working out for them. Before developing a possibly successful CBDC, they have to fix Ruble and make it worth something rather than tank for the most part.
2543  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance's 98% Dominance: Should We Be Worried? on: February 20, 2023, 10:29:01 PM
Nope. Volume dominance clearly shows that Binance is the most trusted exchange right now but it doesn’t give much concerned since their founder is clearly dox and will not runaway. If ever he will runaway, There’s no way he can hide all those coin away from the public eyes.

I believe the only that concerns me is the decreasing number of interest on other exchange which might be a cause for some exchange to go under since there will be income.

IMO being doxxed is not sufficient for a person to not do nefarious things for their own gain. Just look at SBF for example. He was known around the world for being the CEO of a possible competitor to Binance, and his platform actually did quite well on its initial days. However that did not deter him from misappropriating the funds and diverting it to another of his company. Not saying that CZ will never do this, but we never really know what's happening in the sidelines.
2544  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: February 20, 2023, 10:09:38 PM
I have heard of some experiment with a supercomputer about which driver on the grid would be the champion this season.

According to the calculations of this supercomputer, Verstappen will win his third championship in a row. Besides it calculated the 2nd and 3rd in the standings as Hamilton and Leclerc respectively. It doesn't seem unrealistic to me honestly. Because we still can't be sure of what Ferrari can really do this season yet. They claim that they have the strongest car now but the most important thing is to have a season without problems. Otherwise it doesn't matter how fast your car is. Apart from that, Verstappen is still the clear favourite. Hamilton can also have a great season depending on how much Mercedes have developed their car.

If Verstappen is the favorite and Leclerc comes third, then that simulation honestly didn't factor in Ferrari's car. That thing is still a beast, and with Charles Leclerc on the driver's seat, it's not impossible for him to take the championship. While everyone is still cheering for Verstappen to take that 3rd championship on his, they should not sleep on Hamilton and Mercedes. These guys are doing a very great job on tests and are giving us short responses on what went well on these tests, which means that their car is slowly getting better but doesn't want to spoil the fun yet.
2545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Doge really go to the moon? on: February 20, 2023, 09:50:14 PM
People have been trying to ride the dogecoin hype the moment Elon did something to promote it. Guess what, it underwent some pumps and some dumps and still no moon yet. Moon is subjective, and people will never be contented on the price until they get uber rich from it, and I think that's just utterly impossible because the money has to come from somewhere before it gets poured into dogecoin. So yeah, dogecoin can have pumps and still don't reach the moon because people will never be contented.
2546  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: February 20, 2023, 09:35:59 PM
Abit early but lets start betting on the Lima Major

Im going with this for the opening game

Pretty sure that PSG.LGD is going to dominate but Execration might win a single map against Tundra so yeah its kinda weird as most people will choose Tundra but this season, Tundra is not really dominating the DPC so there is a good chance that it they might win

LGD had a hard time getting qualified at first, but with how EG played I guess this would be an even matchup. Both of these teams seem to be just equal right now, so a draw might be imminent. As for Tundra and Execration, a draw is also highly possible. I can't really gauge who's the stronger team on the groupstage as most of those playing have had a rough start. I think doing draws on most of the matches on day 1 is a safe bet, and as the tournament progresses and we see the metas used by these teams we can safely pick, then maybe we can draw a conclusion on which teams will be able to get an edge against another.
2547  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Give it a break. on: February 20, 2023, 08:59:38 PM
I don't think this is a strategy mate. You're just giving yourself some break in order to not get into deep on the loss. That isn't considered a strategy tbh because you're not actually gambling to win during your time off. Strategy or not, it is important to really take breaks because we will have time to assess what we're doing, and in doing so we will be able to figure out what could be going wrong and what could go wrong if we continue chasing losses down the line.
2548  Economy / Economics / Re: Are people really having the wrong concept of savings? on: February 20, 2023, 08:43:45 PM
To me, savings is something that I shouldn't use until a certain point. It remains locked for some period of time until it is time to use it, say for emergencies or to buy something really useful for myself e.g. a house, a car, etc. I never thought of not using my savings at all even if I really needed it, because money is meant to be used and by not using money, you are clearly restricting yourself to get the good things that you saved for yourself. You can't bring your money to the grave anyway, so why people think that they should never use their savibgs, that I do not know.

EG moved from NA to now South America and replaced the old roster which were the Shopify Rebellion's now(North America).

I'm kinda laughing at the name but seeing how EG let go of the old roster, I kinda understood the rebellion part. They're doing well in SA though, but they kinda have to grind since the SA region is already packed with a lot of good teams. I'm hoping that Shopify Rebellion get better placements in the DPC in order to qualify for a lot of prestige tournaments.
2550  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If AI were to somehow hack into Bitcoin Core on: February 19, 2023, 11:54:53 PM
I doubt it would be feasible at all. It would be a wasted effort since the chain would simply fork and move on. Also, it would easily be a wrong move considering that that time could easily be poured into something more meaningful. And, the AI can write beautiful code all it wants, but that's not the point, it would still need a machine that has unlimited computational power that can do the actual work.

So no, the AI will not do shit. And if it does shit, the network can easily undo everything and just split from that chain.
2551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Be careful Many New Tokens on Coinmarketcap are on: February 19, 2023, 10:32:50 PM
CMC still does initial verification, but to verify whether the project is legitimate or not must be done by those who are willing to spend some money by investing to these so-called projects. Honestly I wouldn't use CMC as a basis on whether a project is good or not. Mostly it's used to just check prices on coins that have already hit the exchanges, nothing more. It would be quite noobish to use CMC as your sole basis on the reputation of coins and tokens that are being put out there. Lots of other platforms out there to use to verify legitimacy of coins/tokens, really.
2552  Economy / Economics / Re: does bitcoin help in your economy? on: February 19, 2023, 09:17:48 PM
In some ways it did. I know a lot of people who got rich here because of bitcoin and crypto, so that definitely boosted their spending power which, in turn, helps the economy in some ways. Most of these crypto guys that became rich now have also their own businesses today, and that's another help that bitcoin and crypto did to the economy. While it does not directly help in everything, in a way or another, it helped create new millionaires which created new businesses and jobs.
2553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to run a bounty campaign? on: February 19, 2023, 08:48:37 PM
First off, you have to build your name and trust around this forum. If you don't have any of these, there's really no way for you to get into the role as you need people to actually trust you to do things and handle finances on their behalf. If we're talking about the difficulty of the job, it certainly is one of the easiest thing to do there, and you just have to be organized in order to succeed. But what matters most is being fit for the job: are you trustworthy enough to take this role and would people do as you say so long as it's what the team needs?
2554  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🦉 Owl.games 🦉 on: February 19, 2023, 08:09:37 PM
Not a scam accusation or anything, but I would avoid owlgames and its token for the meantime. Them locking their threads coupled with a lot of scam accusations is really concerning. It looks like they don't want to deal with those accusations here in the forum and are trying to isolate their support exclusively to their website. Well there isn't much of a problem to that if that's the route they wanted to take and are actually resolving those issues, but locking threads here means they don't want to get a lot more accusations against them that will destroy their reputation which is really, really fishy.
2555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Altcoins in the AI & Big data category become more popular in 2023? on: February 19, 2023, 07:32:27 PM
Why would there a need for tokens in the AI industry anyway? If people are interested enough to invest on something, they'd directly invest in the company that creates these AIs and not on tokens. It looks like we had found the new buzzword after metaverse and Web3: AIs. Thanks to the success of ChatGPT, opportunists have now flocked into another way of marketing their useless tokens and hope that people will get easily swayed because of what ChatGPT is doing.

As expected, AI tokens will see its boom, but will eventually fall after the hype is gone.
2556  Economy / Economics / Re: Social media, now looking more for business than for socializing. on: February 19, 2023, 07:15:52 PM
This becomes truer as meta decided to launch another paid feature that helps creators become 'Meta verified' similar to what Twitter is already doing: https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-parent-launching-meta-verified-subscription-service-619fb2ae

It appears as if these social media platforms are stsrting to gear their businesses towards being an actual marketplace with ads and products rather than to socialize. Can't blame them though, the money is good on these ad-centric platforms, plus the fact that consumerism envelopes the new generation right now.

Damn, kinda missing Friendster because of what Insta, Facebook, and Twitter is doing.
2557  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: February 19, 2023, 06:58:25 PM
Today I watched a video of Mercedes test run and it looked like they were still quite bouncy. Which means that if they are still as bouncy as last year, that would be terrible. And this was on rain, which means that they weren't even running at full speed and yet they still had the same issue, and if they run at full speed like a real race, it would be even worse. Either something was wrong for the test and they used like last years chassis or whatever I don't know the reason, or they will have the same issue again this year at first. I hope that they will figure that out, it would be a damn shame.

Too much play in the suspension, perhaps? This is the part where most manufacturers shifted their focus on, that and weight reduction with little tweaks to the engine. I'm yet to find this video but if the bounce is too much even at 75% power, there's no way they can go up against faster cars like Ferrari on straights. I think Mercedes can easily figure this out and put out a relatively safe solution without sacrificing much of the performance of their car. Saw some of their tests and they're posting quite good times already.
2558  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: February 19, 2023, 06:31:33 PM
Then again, this team (Eternal Fire) is notorious for choking in important tournament stages so it could be a classic EF that we might see in the UB Finals.
LOL this came true. They lost 1-2 to BNE, it seems like a close match though.

By the way, does anybody know why EF vs ENCE consolidation final match odd is almost even? EF beat ENCE 2-0 yesterday, shouldn't they be the favourites?

I knew it. Even though BNE is relatively unknown and has players that aren't as good aimers as Xantares and Calyx, EF is just a weak team when they are pressured and will literally shit the bed whenever they have the chance to.

As for EF vs ENCE on why they have the same odds almost, EF just lost embarassingly to a team that is not that established and unheard of, so oddsmakers would probably decide to give ENCE the benefit here even if they just lost 0-2 against EF yesterday. Of course, that pressure will only mount up because they are now fighting for tournament life after what happen, which might cause them to make a lot of mistakes too in this match up.
2559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: can wallet to wallet transfer be hack on: February 18, 2023, 09:23:32 PM
Clipboard hack is the only one I can think of that can compromise transfers from one address to another. Well, if someone has your private keys that works too, but I haven't really heard of a man in the middle (MITM) attack on cryptocurrencies and I guess that's what you're trying to say here. Or it could be a reverse transaction exploit, but that can easily done by anyone nowadays and isn't really much of a hack. Anyway, the algorithms involved in transfers of funds from one address to another is cryptographically secure, so you should not worry about your coins being hijacked along the way.
2560  Economy / Economics / Re: Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway buys even more AAPL stock, ditches TSMC on: February 18, 2023, 08:28:58 PM
Interesting move. Apple has had difficulties getting their chips from outside suppliers, and at the same time Berkshire Hathaway reduced their investments on TSMC. Does Buffett knows something that we don't? For one, Taiwan is in a pretty bad position because of China and US, but that doesn't really affect chip production at all, just the tensions between these countries which might spark into something bigger. Or it could be because of the recent move by the US gov't to bring the foundries to its land and be a competitor to TSMC. Whatever the case is, it must be compelling for Buffett to move that much in a single instance.
