2561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Who wants to help rebuild ColossusCoin? (ColossusCoin 2.0 is Live 03/01/2015) on: January 18, 2015, 02:56:15 PM
It sounds very good Crestington!.

I hope all be smooth and relaxing.

For the moment the miner is making money, thats really good.

Thank you a lot.

Awesome, I also have a new optional client that you can test as well and want to get a little feedback with.

New client comes with a fix to the IRC, links to relevant resources in the social tab and use of minimal Coinage when sending, couple changes to the look of the statistics, a few minor tweaks to the text to make it look nicer.

2562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2015 - YOUR ALL GETTING SCAMMED!! on: January 18, 2015, 02:24:43 PM
Oh wow, so many replies!

But then wouldn't this thread be proof then that negative interest garners more interest than posting something positive?

For example, I saw multiple threads from the same person asking who wants to get involved in working on some projects and ideas for fun. He got about 2 or 3 posts on each of the threads he posted before it got drowned out by other threads. I posted a thread with a title saying everyone's getting scammed and I got 20 replies in a couple hours which says to me that people like drama more than actually working on the tech itself.

Bitcointalk, they come for the tech but stay for the drama.
2563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CON] PayCon X13 POW/POS - Now on C-CEX, POW-POS Phase- Get Your CON On!! on: January 18, 2015, 02:04:11 PM
i just start with paycon , i buyed  7400 CON and withdraw them to my wallet but they still are not in my wallet and i withdraw them yesterdayevening , that was 10 hours ago, so what did i wrong???

ps : i withdraw them from c-cex

is it possible that i need another config??

I sent a message to C-Cex to check the market around that time because I was seeing the differences. The balance either goes into your wallet or remains in C-Cex's wallet.

Check out my commit here for this other project I have been working on as an example of a hardfork.

https://github.com/Crestington/Colossuscoin2test/commit/0db0100a96b9f3612b870db581aa309ce4ae71b1

In this situation the hardfork was done to change the rewards and a checkpoint master key was made to create a stable point for the network. Everyone upgraded but one person but I didn't know he hadn't upgraded and so he sent coins but was on a fork and sent a lot of coins directly into the fork. The coins would appear to have been sent on his end but the rest of the network wouldn't accept it or see it. We recovered the coins by importing the private keys from the wallet sent, into a wallet of the correct fork and so ended up that the transaction was like it never happened. Never post any private keys

Coins either go to their destination or are in the place it was sent from.

Let's look into why we saw this happen and what would need to be changed in order to improve the stability of PayCon.

I'm at 24813. Looks like I'm too far ahead, am I on the wrong fork?

No, that looks right. but still seeing some issue of people being stuck around 24,000 and the Block explorer and C-Cex and how the POS difficulty is off? Does anyone know presstab from HyperStake? I bet he might be able to give us some insight if we asked him nicely.
2565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 2015 - YOUR ALL GETTING SCAMMED!! on: January 18, 2015, 08:13:56 AM
Thought that might get your attention, Here is a little snapshot of the current feeling of the AltCoin market

AltCoin section has been going wild lately and I noticed I end up posting on a lot of the Scam threads but then again, out of the top 40 threads, 25% of them are claiming something is a scam.

The next most popular category of threads are about daytrading and pump and dumps, attacking Coins followed by how to make Coins, getting into new projects and last but not least a couple informative threads. I guess this means as in popular media, negative attention attracts more interest.

I remember January of last year it was very quiet compared to this, what do you guys think about this?

What do you think the AltCoin section look like 1 year from now? is 2015 the year of the Scam Thread?

My wallet just went out of sync at block 24024

I started up a node to take a look

This is a list of nodes I pulled from the highest chain and I am receiving new Blocks.

I think there aren't enough nodes online that have a synced blockchain.

Should everyone leave their wallets running all weekend if they're synced?

I'm up to 24010, a little closer, but not much closer than earlier.  It says last block was 9 hours ago.  I kept losing connections as I passed their current synced block.  I had 1 connection that brought me up to 24010, but minerpools and suprnova are past that so somebody must be synced.

Someone mentioned that it might Stake before Syncing? Maybe you are hitting a POS Block before it's synced fully?

I'm up to 24010, almost there, but I kept losing connections because some of them aren't synced.  I had 1 connection that brought me up to 24010, but minerpools and suprnova are past that so somebody must be synced.

But then minerpools and supernova should connect to everyone, I think we should see if we can setup a couple active nodes.

Some are still on the old version, Mudda's change earlier was to add in checkpoints and stake modifiers and to bump the version. I think my concern then would be the minimum Stake difficulty set so low, likely causing the split.
2570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What cryptocurrency do you have the most faith in the long term? on: January 18, 2015, 05:33:27 AM
cmon guys!! you're posting in BITCOINtalk....
*snip*

And bitcointalk will allow discussion of all cryptocurrencies in all sections, or it will be replaced by something else...

I think you are right. The mods will say "we need to keep things organised, otherwise those interested in BTC will be over run with altcoin threads." Which is true.

But then why not create a "Crypto - General" sub forum at the top of the page? Then anyone from anywhere can discuss anything. Things stay as organised as they are today and there is the benefit of some mixing between altcoiners and the "All sh!tcoins are sh!t, we can do that with sidechains" cru. (N.B. when I read this I see "I'm unhappy, hopefully we can do what they are doing today in 1-3 years when sidechains are implemented, assuming we are still relevant then"

The reason they don't add a mixed forum so all ideas can slosh around together is because the current separation is protectionism. It intended to keep a majority of bitcoiners and their investors ignorant. There is a lot of good stuff going on in altcoins, it is a hydra and they are afraid they won't be able to keep up.

Here is the best example I have seen for what I am talking about, the ignorance and arrogance competing at higher and higher levels: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=827725.0

You might think this is 18-24 months old but it is from October 2014 It is also one of my most favourite threads  Grin

The AltCoin section is like the wild wild west here where everything goes, ride your innovation horse to freedom and hope you don't lose your house along the way.
2571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about garza's speech being cancelled? on: January 18, 2015, 04:45:34 AM

For $800 you could get a Coin made with all the wallets, website, forums, seeder and block explorer hosting for a year.

Just saying  Roll Eyes

Really?  I wish I knew a guy who had the experience and skills to make a coin for $800.  Somebody who can get things done, and add commits to github, and fix wallets and all that.  Such an individual would surely be held in high esteem among his peers at bitcointalk, and also in the trollboxes.

If anyone was looking to hire someone to make a coin for them, I would definitely recommend them to such a respected person.

I know a few people that can do different things, so it's like 150 for basic sourcecode and windows wallet, you can rent Blockchain and seednode hosting each for about $100 a year. Get a .pw address which costs about $5 and use google for wordpress. Simple machines has an easy setup and a guide on how to host forums. Add in a few extra nodes and some strengthening and your total might be around $800 with the base cost per year about $400.

So what's the status with this? Dead or alive?

My wallet shows
"blocks" : 24584
4 active connections

Lets look to see what is causing the issue, if we need to then just stick a fork in con, done.
2573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cleanup: I'll attack some coins - I owned APEXcoin for 90 blocks on: January 18, 2015, 04:13:37 AM
wow! lots of attention recently...

If an exchange waits for 6 confirmations, you would only need to split it in 6 (maybe 7, not 400 like I did).

I don't know why I wrote this... I lost focus... actually you need to split the stake as much as you can.
That's the key to the thing: if you split your staking then your staking weight remains the same. But splitting gives you the advantage that on each block you find your staking weight is only marginally affected. If you split in 6 and you hit a block, you are left with 5/6 of your original weight. If you split in hundreds then each block you mint doesn't affect your weight because the age destroyed is minimal. This is why I could do 90 blocks with no extra effort.

I'll try to write a paper about the countermeasures to defend against this kind of things... but it's not directly related to coin age: coin age only makes it cheaper to attack, so coins like blackcoin or nxt can still be attacked with less than 10% of the supply.

And I'll do nxt next (testnet or a clone) but it'll take some time because it's a very different thing I need to get used to.

And a warning: most POW coins are not safe! it's easy to cheaply rent enough hashrate to attack a lot of coins with low to medium hashrate. Only the biggest ones are good.

Oh that's interesting, so then let's say for instance you have...

2 minute block time
minimum stake age at 7 days
maximum at 28 days
19 billion float
8% a year halving down to 4% every 64X difficulty (8%, 6%, 5%, 4.5% etc)
20 coin fee per kb (roughly 6-7 combines)
Fees generate 10% more Coins through retrieval of Stake (someone spends 20 Coins in Fees, you Stake the Block for 22 Coins)
4000 max Stake subsidy per block (plus fees on top)
Split/combine threshold at 200,000 coins at 10 days

Maximum actual inflation per year would be limited to about 5-8% per year

By the way you describe your attack, the result would cause financial detriment to you since you would be paying tens of thousands in fees but Stakers would also get all those Coins plus 10% more!. Plus with the max subsidy capped, it encourages smaller blocks for higher rewards. I can give you a little bit of private Coins you could test with if you want.
2574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CON] PayCon X13 POW/POS - Now on C-CEX, POW-POS Phase- Get Your CON On!! on: January 18, 2015, 03:46:13 AM
I don't know, but my wallet has always updated with the current block height, even when it stalled and couldn't sync.  So at least it knows how far it's behind.

Crestington can you give us those nodes from c-cex?  I'm getting 1 connection and then 0, so maybe more nodes will fix it.

Yeah that's what I want to see, someone sent me some node info and there were a couple on the list that were running the previous version still, I sent you a list excluding the few plus from C-Cex, see if that does the trick.
2575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Communist Bitshares Wealth Redistribution IS THEFT! on: January 18, 2015, 03:11:22 AM

Now we are getting somewhere.  We simply disagree on philosophy.

People who think like you do will simply not be owners in BitShares.  They aren't interested in that kind of product. That's ok.  Find something else that works for you.

BitShares appeals to those who understand and appreciate the company metaphor. Companies are formed to make profits and share them according to the percent of ownership.  Every share gets the same percent of the profits.  If you own more shares you get more profits.  That's how companies are supposed to work.

I get what you're saying.  My intuition tells me that these kinds of
ideas are just not scalable enough for a global currency.  Just
my own little opinion -- I'm much happier trusting in the protocol
of Bitcoin.   But good luck.

Thanks.  But, if you change your metaphor from "global currency" to "global company that produces stable smart currency derivatives" then what you have to compare it against is international companies like Alibaba or Google. There, the idea of stakeholders electing a board of directors to appoint management and hire employees is a well established model. We just aim to extend block chain technology to make global businesses transparent, incorruptible, efficient and profitable.

Those are the main reasons we started with POW, switched to POS, and then extended it to DPOS.

Ok...and what difference do you see
between the Federal Reserve and
Google?

I thought the whole point of cryptocurrencies
is to get away from central authorities.

You can't get away from central authorities in general because people are inherently lazy and want other people to do the work for them so are willing to trust something they think will work for their benefit, same thing as outsourcing to India for customer service representative's.
2576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about garza's speech being cancelled? on: January 18, 2015, 02:48:22 AM
I'm more under the impression that it's pretty much impossible to run a scam because everything you do is traceable, that is what collapsed the price of PayCoin. Why is there even a need to raise millions of dollars in capital? Does this mean that the money for the Bodyguards is coming out of the ICO funds? How much you reckon it cost to rent two higher quality Bodyguards for a day? Like $600-800

For $800 you could get a Coin made with all the wallets, website, forums, seeder and block explorer hosting for a year.

Other stuff than security?
Seems you are not behind your coin. Features are not necessary.

Safe your coin, then you'll have time for the toys.
Your post looks to me like advertising.

Cheers,
Ray

PS: Your sig... Paycoin. It says all.

I can't show off a project I built myself? And it's PayCon, not PayCoin. I launched mine on Christmas eve and worked on it through the holidays before PayCon launched but the code is very similar so I want to do work on both because I'm interested in this stuff and got some PayCon for cheap.
2578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Paycoin (XPY) is scam on: January 18, 2015, 12:42:05 AM
Hey guys, I waited to post on this site until I can get the paycoin fanboy part of me destroyed. I want to post in a respectable way. I am invested in paycoin and can say there is no scam. Ill admit that at first there was too much talk and exitement and Josh admitted he made mistakes. But a group of people do hate gaw and dumped. That screwed the price. The reason he has bodyguards or whatever is because of threats. Paycoin is not going to fail and there is money to be made. Now may be the last chance to get in cheap. With that said, I love bitcoin. I hope the days come back where we can mine from home and make money. I got screwed by mtgox also. I understand people are on edge because there are a lot of scams. Each coin has their place. We need bitcoin. We need it because of the anonymity. Unfortunately these are hard times with the price drops. I didnt come here to say immature things like xpy will kill bitcoin or ask you to buy them. I just want to say lets have a little more respect and support all coins because they each have their place. Attack me if you wish but there is good information on this site and I would like to be a part of this community also. I love crypto.

Did Josh go to the Bitcoin conference afterall? Cause that would be balls of steel. I don't think there are really that many people that hate him, I don't own any XPY and never mined it so I troll a bit and make some jokes but hey, he's still taking charge so I guess it counts for something.

I had plenty of active connections, until it got to block 23564.  Then it had 0 connections.  Also it had started staking.

C-Cex is showing

POW: 0.15932037
POS: 0
Block: 24017, Sup: 2161108

PayCon Block explorer is showing

Current Block: 23343
Money Supply: 2141510.8112068
PoW Difficulty: 20.95242139
PoS Difficulty: 0.00000020
Network gH/s: 0.548719297
