2561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue - WBC and WBO 122 lbs bout - May on: February 18, 2023, 07:37:34 PM
It's Fulton's time now to break that momentum and protect his thrown. We will see who's going to stand tall after the fight.

Although he is the champion, it seems that we are hoping he will be able to survive against Inoue. The fight between Inoue and Donaire was quite different because Donaire was the challenger, while here, it's Inoue who is the challenger, but people view him as the champion.

There is a huge pressure on Foltun because the majority of the fans do not believe he can beat the Monster, but let's see what happens during the fight night

Even before this fight, he already knew that. In fact, there was a statement from his camp that they needed to win because they were representing their country. That's how big they see this fight and the amount of success they will achieve if they win. Foltun did not show weakness in his press conference or statements, but we all know that everyone is scared of the Monster once they are in the ring.

But in Inoue's recent statement, he said that he is facing some pressures and having some worries as well because he doesn't know how will he perform in this weight class as this is also this first fight since he vacated the bantamweight. That just shows that Fulton isn't the only one who is having troubles in facing the pressures they are in but if we compare, I guess Fulton is carrying a much heavier load because he is visiting and fighting the former undisputed champion in his own country.

It's a humble thing for Inoue to say that he's also having troubles in terms of pressure. We've known the guy to be a very decorated and experienced fighter and we think that he's already past these stages wherein he's worried about the pressure. The jump from bantamweight to featherweight isn't that much, but he acknowledges that it might be something that he isn't thoroughly prepared for and that's commendable compared to fighters who talks trash and can't really stand up for it.

Eternal Fire is doing great at the moment, even when the team is down, he can talk about how he can turn the game around and make it happen. Today he faced ence in the semifinal match. Having managed to defeat the ence team, eternal fire started to wait for its opponent in the upper bracket final. eternal fire, which exhibited a good game as a team, hopefully wins this tournament. the team needs a lot of morale to win the tournament right now.

Should be a relatively easy game for EF against Bad News Eagles. I don't know much about the said team but even then, they might still put up a fight but I doubt it. Calyx is stepping up on a lot of occasions and xantares seems to be on point with shot calling and his aim. Doubt there'd be much of a contest if they played consistently when they defeated ENCE. Then again, this team (Eternal Fire) is notorious for choking in important tournament stages so it could be a classic EF that we might see in the UB Finals.
2563  Economy / Economics / Re: Keanu Reeves says Principle behind Cryptocurrency is Amazing on: February 18, 2023, 06:22:05 PM
He's smart enough to know that cryptocurrencies can do awesome things, and recognized the metaverse's potential for wealth creation, but not on its utility to people and how can it help in a number of ways and not just enrich those who are into the metaverse. This man is the epitome of being a public figure IMO. He rarely speaks on such things but when he does, he poses a great understanding of it which is admirable. He mentioned that he supports his partner in what she does, but is also smart enough to not use his name in the cryptospace to create his own NFT for monetary gain.
2564  Economy / Economics / Re: Lebanese depositors smash up, burn Beirut banks on: February 17, 2023, 11:43:22 PM
This is what happens when you strip the citizens off their rights and their money. They don't really want to go the extremes, but the situation forced them to, and they don't really have a choice anyway. I'd like to think that the banks at least tried to give the depositors their money, but I'm pretty sure that that money is already taken somewhere else before the crash happens, and that they are keeping those money somewhere for themselves. That should be a criminal offense, but if these banks are with the government, then might as well consider your money gone for good and save yourself the stress and possible jail time for participating in these riots.
2565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago for WBC bantamweight title on: February 17, 2023, 08:47:34 PM
This is a good matchup for Donaire, and I have a feeling that he will be the favorite in this fight once the odds are out. His opponent has three losses, but is a very active boxer, having won all three fights last year.

I believe most of the posters here will be rooting for Donaire, but it would still be nice to put up a poll to determine who has the majority of the votes.

If Donaire is listed as the favorite, I doubt he will be a heavy favorite. He's coming off a big loss against Inoue, so he doesn't have much momentum, unlike Santiago, who is currently on a winning streak.

Donaire is still a top class fighter albeit his age. A lot of people are discounting him due to his age but his experience in the ring still matters. He put up a good fight against Inoue albeit his loss, and Santiago's record isn't that promising either. Overall, bookies would really favor that who has his career already proven to the world and is still going at it despite his age. Donaire may have slowed down, but he still knows how to use every aspect of boxing at his disposal.
2566  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 17, 2023, 06:56:16 PM
I doubt petrol/diesel cars will be phased out by then. Petro states will surely be against this big time and they will not allow this to happen at all costs. There probably would be a large cut on the number of ICE cars that will be produced but they will never be removed from the markets until the oil from these petro states are completely depleted and there's no more oil to be had. Perhaps a lot of countries will opt to a lot of hybrids in the coming years instead of fully abandoning petrol cars, and that is the safer option IMO.
2567  Economy / Economics / Re: What will you do if bitcoin crash? on: February 16, 2023, 10:38:56 PM
I'd still go to work and probably hold on whatever coins I have. I'm at the point wherein bitcoin is a nice investment to have, but not a necessity to me since my job pays for my needs and some wants anyways. I haven't devoted a lot to bitcoin except for my time and some $$$ that is not too serious compared to others who bet on their life savings on it.

If all hell breaks loose in bitcoin tomorrow, I'd be one of the lucky ones who only lost time and some hundreds of $$$ to it based on what I have right now lol.
2568  Economy / Economics / Re: Cheap food: can you beat this price in your country? on: February 16, 2023, 09:38:15 PM
Without any variance to your diet, I don't think that is healthy enough for one individual to eat in a whole month. Then again, a lot of us are probably not eating healthy anyway so if we are really trying to save some money wherever we can, we can probably do this for a month if the option is available. Here in our place, I can eat healthy foods with lots of variations for $4 a day. Basically, it's 2 cups of rice with a combination of meat, veggies, fish, or whatever dish you want. $120 a month for food doesn't seem to be too bad, considering that you will always have the option which foods to eat that'll satisfy your tastebuds without sacrificing the nutrients that you get.
2569  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto aid for Turkey exceeds $4.5M in one week on: February 16, 2023, 07:33:13 PM
In dire times, you can expect the government to bend some of the laws and regulations they enforce for their advantage. Even if it's currently illegal in the country, money is still money, and you don't want to decline any donations whatsoever that you're receiving because it all adds up eventually that will help the plight of your citizens in need. Also, cryptocurrency is faster - doesn't need to wait for business days to pass before the balance gets into the hands of the organizations that need it. Overall great job for the exchanges in banding together to make sure that donations will push through while also helping the Turkish government that sometimes, bans are not solutions to problems that they're facing.
2570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏅 Paris 2024 Olympic 🏊 Discussion & Predictions 🤺 Summer Games 🏋️ 🥅 🚴 on: February 16, 2023, 05:17:41 PM
The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach has further clarified the situation related to athletes from Russia and Belarus. Previously Volodymyr Zelenskiy had asked the IOC to impose a blanket ban on athletes from these two countries. But according to Bach, no such action will be taken, as the governments can't decide on which teams should compete and which ones should not participate. Obviously the statement from Bach has attracted fierce criticism from Zelenskiy. Russian and Belarussian athletes will now compete under neutral flag.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/feb/12/olympics-head-rejects-zelenskiy-call-to-ban-russian-athletes-from-paris-games

It's been a year since the war has happened and they can't settle into neutral grounds. They should give the athletes a chance to compete at the highest level of the sport. I am in agreement with Bach's decision to support athletes from Belarus and Russia to compete under neutral flag. During the Olympics, they don't represent any country or anyone, just themselves wanting to showcase the world what they have in the highest level of the sport they are participating in. I think it's time for Zelenskiy to realize that Ukraine's enemy aren't the entirety of Russia and Belarus, only its leaders who are using its people as pawns on the chessboard in order to gain whatever the hell they want.
2571  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting fraud in Brazil 😦 on: February 16, 2023, 03:46:39 PM
If it's in the higher league, then this act will easily get caught. They might have done this a few games already but a lot of bookies will certainly caught wind of what's happening, unless of course they're also part of the act then there's not much to do about it. Those who are able to commit this kind of activity are usually those who are in position and in power to sweep everything under the rug, but fortunately they were able to catch it while it's hot. Though I believe that even though they catch the perpetrators in the act, this will continue happening so long as there are crooked people in the position of the higher leagues.
2572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth staking stablecoins? on: February 15, 2023, 11:21:55 PM
If you don't really have any active use for them and you just want to keep them as is, staking is not pretty bad no matter how little the gain is. You're still gaining something after all, not like you're losing the coins for being kept somehere. Any gain is a gain, but just make sure that the platform you'll be staking this is reliable and trustworthy. Stablecoins generally don't lose their value a lot, so any % staked off of the original amount is fine and should not really be an issue.
2573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chasing losses - Double down bet or Bet twice? on: February 15, 2023, 08:31:03 PM
I never chased losses that often. I think I only did it a few times but I never went over my budget. Only tried doing Martingale until the balance ran out and that's it. There aren't any 'good' strategies out there to chase losses. Heck, chasing losses in itself is already pretty bad, so I don't think you'd want to do it anyway. Just avoid getting hot headed and impatient when you're gambling and you'll never feel the need to chase losses ever. Instead of trying to see which strategy works best in chasing losses, why not drop the thought and start thinking of trying not to chase losses?
2574  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin gambling problem on: February 15, 2023, 08:01:57 PM
It's great that these websites, organizations, and services exist. The problem is, are those actually addicted willing to take these courses, self-help assessments, and watch those videos on how to stop gambling? There are tons of non-profits battling gambling addiction but the problem is trying to persuade gamblers to get help for themselves. If the willingness to stop gambling is already there, a little push and a helping hand like this site helps. A support system is very welcome too, and it's great to hear that this site is built by ex-gamblers who were brave enough to turn back on an activity that has held them hostage for a long period of time.
2575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Choosing between your relationship and gambling. on: February 15, 2023, 07:21:50 PM
I'd say cut the crap about "getting better for your partner" thing because if your cousin is a responsible gambler and has no other hobby other than gambling, his girlfriend/fiancee has no right to tell him what to do. It's his money after all because they are not married yet, plus she has no proof of your cousin losing too much money and being irresponsible with money and just based her accusation on her own experience with another person completely unrelated and unknown to your cousin. She's too quick to jump into conclusions and personally, I wouldn't want to have a partner like that. I've been gambling for years, and never have I lost an amount that I regret losing because of this activity. She could easily worded things differently, but she chose to jump the gun and immediately come up with the conclusion that your cousin might screw up because one of her family members did. That's just toxic and uncalled for IMO.
2576  Economy / Economics / Re: Anyone here into passive investing (of their time)? on: February 13, 2023, 11:37:10 PM
It's hard to find a lasting passive income. Most of them are good for only a couple of months before you have to do some recalibration in order to stay profitable. Sometimes, recalibration on these can also affect your profits heavily, and we don't want that to happen. While stocks, precious metals, and crypto are already great passibe investments, they are still susceptible to fail, or not post a lot of great returns. You need to keep up with the trends and the news in order to know the next move, making it not so passive at all. But for starters, they're good passive investments, just not something that will stay passive for a long time.
2577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: February 13, 2023, 10:45:59 PM
To be honest, this year I have the feeling that Ferrari has the strongest car, and if they stop making mistakes, they could have the strongest car the whole season. Last season, Ferrari definitely had the strongest car in the first half of the season and lost a lot of important points due to their own mistakes (strategy, pit stops, etc.).

My guess is that Ferrari will be the strongest car, followed closely by RedBull and Mercedes.

I also feel like Ferrari will have the fastest car in this new season. Because they are saying that there is a big improvement in the engine by 30 horsepower.

This is a really big improvement indeed. Because they didn't see any other way than cutting the power by some rate last season to get ahead of serious issues. But now they are claiming that there is no need anymore. I really can't trust them completely yet as we are talking about Ferrari.  Grin  We need to see them racing without the same problems for some weeks to be convinced about them. Then I can say my favourite for the championship will be Ferrari this time.

Ferrari is quite inconsistent in their reports about their car, but they can damn sure create a powerful car that can breeze through corners and fly through straights if they wanted to. Their main problem is communication and strategies, as was evidenced last season. They have no problem in terms of their car and can compete to the best constructors out there. Just hope that they can do something about the additional power that they slap into their car and win some championships. Leclerc is a good driver, so is Sainz. They just have to get those timings in pit stops and they're golden.
2578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: As mining is no longer profitable... on: February 13, 2023, 10:28:15 PM
Coins without any failsafe against 51% attacks are destined to fail anyway. Even without much network activity, miners will still need to mine new blocks in order to generate new coins, and generation times for new coins should also be lessened as time goes on in order to not exhaust the limited supply of the coin in a short span of time. Great example for this is the PoW system used in bitcoin. It has come to a point that it became unprofitable to perform a 51% attack against bitcoin hence why not a lot of such attempts were made again in recent times.

But yeah, if the coin is really shitty, you can expect a lot of miners to instamine and dump the coin as it hits the exchange. That'a why there isn"t a lot of new altcoins using PoW as an algorithm anymore.
2579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost Bitcoin? on: February 13, 2023, 09:37:18 PM
AFAIK, they assume that coins that haven't had any movements for the past 5+ years or so are considered lost bitcoins. There really isn't any way of saying that these are lost; some of these coins are just safekept for the future. No connection to the internet means a high chance that the machine storing those keys and those coins won't be compromised. There's a lot of factors that should be considered before stating that coins are lost forever, and this is a good article that ponders on this topic.
2580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling safer than before ? on: February 13, 2023, 09:01:23 PM
I think not much changed in terms of 'personal' safety of the gambler. In fact, I think it's a lot more dangerous to go out there and beat the house due to how documented everything is nowadays and how easy it is for people to find another person and do harm against them. While we, as a society may have toned violence down a bit, it's a different case when huge money is involved and those who lost that money—through 'unfair' ways or so they think—have some people at their disposal.

Dangers are always present when you gamble. It just became increasingly easy to track you down when you did something unfavorable against the house or another player.
