2561  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mixin Safe: A Convenient and Decentralized Multisig + MPC + Timelock solution on: September 29, 2023, 10:46:04 AM
Why wouldn't it be affected by the hack since it is custodial
Sorry, I forgot the word "non"-custodial. I've edited my post.

Quote
there is no private key or seed phrase to any "safe vault" that you create.
That's the shitty part indeed, and it's what makes it really hard to believe it's non-custodial. The user doesn't have much more than a phone number and 6 digit PIN to recover their funds, and they didn't say how you can recover it.
2562  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: September 29, 2023, 08:28:04 AM
I've moved this project to another (donated) server. Everything should be back online again, let me know if there are any issues.
2563  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: September 29, 2023, 08:08:40 AM
The compression method being used is by reducing the image size by 50%. But, if after this reduction, the file continues to be larger than 2.5MB, it will give this error. I have to find a way to resolve this issue.
Can't you base the size reduction on the actual size? Or just fit it in 1024x1024 (but keep the aspect ratio), that should be enough for most forum posts.
2564  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mixin Safe: A Convenient and Decentralized Multisig + MPC + Timelock solution on: September 29, 2023, 08:00:11 AM
I've seen several incorrect posts by now. To be clear: Mixin lost $200M, not Mixin Safe.
Product is different, but company and owners are obviously the same.
The difference is that Mixin Safe is supposed to be non-custodial. If that's true (which I haven't been able to verify) it shouldn't be affected by the hack.
2565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do timelocked transactions work? on: September 28, 2023, 06:53:17 PM
How safe are timelocks? I mean, what if there is a radical change in bitcoin network that requires hard fork and what if everyone moves their nodes/miners to support the fork? I lack technical knowledge in this field so can anyone form a hypothesis what will happen if there is a hard fork that everyone follows? What will happen if there is a hard fork in 2026 but my coins are locked till 2028?
With hard forks, all bets are off. If you picked a certain block in the future and we get 1 block per minute instead of every 10 minutes, it's going to be mined a lot faster.
2566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do timelocked transactions work? on: September 28, 2023, 02:40:07 PM
I'm not a tech person, but what will happen if I lock my bitcoins for 10 years? and Coinbin website goes offline before that time, how will I be able to access my bitcoins at that time.
Keep a backup copy of coinb.in Smiley Just like you should have a backup copy of Bitaddress.org and iancoleman.io.
You should use those sites offline and air-gapped anyway.
2567  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mixin hack! CEO Begs Hackers To Return Funds and Take $20m Reward on: September 28, 2023, 01:06:24 PM
They are offering a $20m bounty to the Lazarus group out of the $200m scammed.
Do you have a source for this statement? It's not in your screenshot, and I haven't found any evidence that the Lazarus Group is behind this.
A $20M bug bounty might work for a hacker who's in over his head, and $20M is enough to lead a very luxurious life without having to launder $200M and being on the lookout for the rest of your life. But if it's North Korean state hackers, none of this applies. They're lucky if they get food tonight.
2568  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why red trust me? on: September 28, 2023, 12:57:05 PM
Why red trust me!  Please withdraw my red trust!
You have such a limited vocabulary when it doesn't come from a chat spam bot! You should have been banned for plagiarism a long time ago.

All deleted posts from this user are the most common plagiarism from AI.
I don't get why Mods don't ban this shitposter. Plagiarism isn't allowed, and all his posts are "low effort".
2569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Sep 2023] Fees are lower, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: September 28, 2023, 09:17:02 AM
Update: Mempool is down to less than 6 5 sat/vbyte Smiley It keeps dropping. Did the ordinal-scamspam finally fail?
2570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cashing Out Thousands of Bitcoin on: September 28, 2023, 09:09:52 AM
The Banks already flag transactions at a much lower amount (I think something like $10 000) .. so the Tax authorities will know, even if you do this with small amounts.  Roll Eyes
I'll remind people again: you want the tax man to know about it, so you can pay your taxes and enjoy your money. What are you going to do with $100M black money? You're much better off with $50M in money that you can spend to buy items legally.
2571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cashing Out Thousands of Bitcoin on: September 28, 2023, 08:46:40 AM
That amount might be questionable to any exchanges if you're just a new user. So the best thing to do is to withdraw a couple amount gradually and use Bitcoin mixer to make sure that your address is clean and not connected to any suspicious address.
That's the dumbest thing you can do! If you have old Bitcoins you can easily prove your wealth came from capital gains. Depending on the tax system you either pay your taxes when you sell them, or you should have paid annually (like where I live). And that's the reason to report your holdings to taxes: if there's a paper trail, you can cash them out without worrying about the IRS. All you have to do is pay, and keep the rest.
2572  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from the bitcoin core, are there any other way to store bitcoin? on: September 28, 2023, 05:47:57 AM
You should move (bottom-left) this topic to the Beginners board.

Short version: you don't need Bitcoin Core to store Bitcoins, but Bitcoin Core is one of the many wallets that can be used to send your Bitcoins.
Longer version: see Choose your Bitcoin wallet.
2573  Economy / Reputation / Re: JollyGood is trusted by - and question. on: September 28, 2023, 05:37:47 AM
Is there any way to find out the time of trust feedback? I mean date and exact time?
Nope. Unless you checked right before and right after the feedback was left.
2574  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Looking for a public Addy for a 2013 BF lealana 1ltc #6586. SMOOTHIE? on: September 28, 2023, 04:50:02 AM
I understand this frustration, but you have to remember that smoothie has always stated he will never give the addresses out except to original buyers.

This is the privacy-centricness in him
I wasn't around early enough, but if he always said he won't share addresses, he shouldn't change that now. That's the risk of buying second hand coins. It's good to know before buying them though.

@OP: have an avatar Smiley That's all I could do for you.
2575  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [100 dots] seed phrase backup on: September 28, 2023, 04:36:56 AM
What do you think?
Try it Smiley Then test restoring the seed before funding it.

The tricky part is finding the exact dimensions back 10 years later, if you don't have a printed table anymore. It may take some trial and error to print the exact format again for recovery. And you should probably not keep it in the same safe Wink

2577  Economy / Reputation / Re: Does Live Stars Deserve My Negative Trust? on: September 27, 2023, 04:53:50 PM
If you have to ask, you shouldn't hand out negative feedback.

I can't tell if they deserve a tag, but if you do, do it for the right reasons.
From your tag:
Quote
This user woke up from a long period of inactivity, and straight away deleted every single comment on self moderated threads of a project(Live stars) he or she created and managed in 2018 or so, project I believe is failed, this user is deleting every thing so as to hide his or her track record, he or she is should not be trusted - I will change or delete this rating if given a good reason to believe otherwise.
Waking up is not a reason to tag someone, deleting posts is not a reason to tag someone. Even better: most posts on the altcoin board are spam anyway, so they won't be missed.
Asking for a good reason to change the tag is like reversing the chain of evidence. It's bad.
2578  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mixin Safe: A Convenient and Decentralized Multisig + MPC + Timelock solution on: September 27, 2023, 04:34:39 PM

2579  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: September 27, 2023, 01:26:15 PM
Do you think it was a bad choice?
It's good this way. It's still very large. The only alternative would be to add an URL tag to the image, so clicking it shows the full size.
2580  Other / Meta / Re: best replies should appear first in a thread. on: September 27, 2023, 01:23:44 PM
I always imagined part of the reason to introduce the Merit system was to use it to differentiate between posts once enough good posts have been Merit. It just never happened. I can think of many pitfalls, so it's probably a good thing.

However, a third party would be able to do this! @TryNinja has a very nice database with posts, and he could probably sort them based on the Merit they received. I did it for Bitcointalk's 10th anniversary art contest (for some reason none of the images work through the image proxy anymore, so it's useless now), and for that topic it made sense. For most topics it will completely mess up the discussion, or show very old posts. Imagine sorting by Merit on the Wall Observer thread, you'll end up with more or less random posts instead of a discussion.
