It would be simpler if I could see your code.
2562  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 17, 2016, 06:44:13 PM
It'd be better for you to use compressed key as it's cheaper anyway

That goes without saying in new wallets. The current wallet format only uses uncompressed keys however.

It's an age old, stable format that has proved itself, so I will develop the new format from scratch and leave the current one untouched. The difficulty will be around how to operate legacy wallets imported into the new format with regard to address chains and old backups.
2563  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: The new Armory website on: August 17, 2016, 04:43:20 PM
A search for Bitcoin Armory still shows https://www.bitcoinarmory.com/ in first position with functional download links. Should not that website be taken down now?

I don't control it, that's ATI's web page. Ours just went up, I'm guessing it takes some times for crawlers to even list it, let alone evaluate its relevance.
2564  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: The new Armory website on: August 17, 2016, 04:23:52 PM
I still don't understand what do you mean by "we are far from it" , are you guys the official developers of the wallet

In the legal sense there is no "official" developer anymore. That was ATI. Since the community took over, the license was changed to MIT, meaning it's everybody's game at this point. I own the repo for the fork and I don't turn down PRs, so feel free to contribute.

The project is a direct fork of the original repo (Alan's), and there has never been a realistic effort in Armory to move the localized text to dedicated files. To get actual in app translations going, we would need that step taken care of first (hint hint).

knightdk will add a todo page to the site with a list of the most sought after contributions for people willing to help in other capacity that straight up code.

As for anything related to the site itself, either coordinate directly with knightdk or submit a PR to the gh-pages branch.
2565  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: The new Armory website on: August 17, 2016, 03:20:53 PM
I thought Armory was pretty much dead as no one talks about it anymore. If you guys are looking for any translators for both Arabic and French language then I'm available to help. (using transifex would be great)

You can offer transalations for the web page, but as far translation for Armory itself, we are far from that.
2566  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: The new Armory website on: August 17, 2016, 03:15:35 PM
Since the source is on the repo (branch gh-pages), feel free to submit PRs. Looking forward to tutorials submissions =).
2567  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: BTC for Goatpig's work on: August 16, 2016, 08:29:22 PM
If you have some web design in you, I would consider setting up a gh-pages branch and merge in yours PRs. This project could definitely use a webpage. It would be pretty cool if it was community managed too.
You should definitely do that. I setup a github pages site for Armory a while ago. Take a look http://www.achow101.com/BitcoinArmory/ and https://github.com/achow101/BitcoinArmory/tree/gh-pages. It hasn't been updated, but I can update it.

We'll have to figure out a domain first though.
2568  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 15, 2016, 09:47:21 PM
Not sure if this was already reported.

I don't see any of my addresses having a balance when I look at the wallet properties. But I can still send (at least fairly sure that I can) Bitcoin. But coin control doesn't work.

Haven't ported these features yet. Coming soon.

Why not add a check box at top of main screen Armory GUI : "Check if you want to support Armory developpement, this will add a 0.001 BTC fee to every outgoing transaction and send it to dev team" ?

Privacy leak, bloat/increased fees and small outputs are expensive to consolidate (ie most of the value will go to miners). Also, mandatory donations are a contradiction.

Again, perhaps the income is not worth the hassle.  Sadly.  Armory is a great part of the Bitcoin infrastructure, but very very few open source projects are able to generate enough income to actually pay a developer.

Every penny counts, but there are some circumstances to consider. First of all, Bitcoin isn't really suited for many small donations. I guess I could setup a changetip account which will avoid all the on chain consolidation, but suddenly I have to dedicate time to that stuff. I like to take my time and weight out each option properly, and I just don't have the brain cycles to deal with that atm.

Next, I won't setup a donation address until I'm happy with the level of my contribution. Currently I don't want to think about that until the new wallets are out.

And a decent programmer probably costs around $100 per day.

Far from it. More like $100/h. I could fetch that if I was to look for a job right now. Decent devs in this space start around $50/h. You also have to keep the balancing act in mind. You can get cheaper hires but they will most likely have no experience in crypto nor BTC. It will take months before the guy is productive, and everything he submits you have to thoroughly review meanwhile. That will impact your productivity doubly, for the time you spend training him, and the time you spend watching over his shoulder.

There is currently too much technical debt in Armory. I can't afford to divert time to look for, evaluate and train candidates.

I may not post much but I do frequent this subforum and I am interested in supporting this project.

There are other ways to contribute besides direct donations.

You could petition Theymos to get me or a veteran member elevated to moderator. It would be very useful to be able to set stickies on this sub forum.
You could participate to testing phases and review code.
If that's not your cup of tea, you could write tutorials for Armory.
You can also try to isolate and reproduce specific bugs and report your findings on the issue pages of the github repo. This would drastically reduce the cost of fixing the bug on my part.
If you have some web design in you, I would consider setting up a gh-pages branch and merge in yours PRs. This project could definitely use a webpage. It would be pretty cool if it was community managed too.

Hello. Just FYI, the Mac build is completely broken at the moment. I've put together a PR here. ArmoryDB still segfaults when Armory runs but at least Armory will compile and start. Smiley

It's failing to create sockets on localhost. If you could look into it that would be a great help
2571  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 08, 2016, 04:45:07 PM
A supernode in the bitcoin space generally refers to a database that tracks all address history on chain. As an example, this is the kind of engine a blockchain explorer service needs to look up arbitrary address history.
2572  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will old wallet versions forever be supported? on: August 06, 2016, 04:37:09 PM
This kind of info would be very nice to have on a website dedicated to the opensource version of Armory you are developing. I cant seem to find a website, only a github repo. Do you plan to create a website? I can help contributing if needed.

When I have time for it. This is far from the top item on my list.
2573  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will old wallet versions forever be supported? on: August 05, 2016, 01:52:19 PM
The old format doc should be somewhere on the old website. Otherwise read the code. I'll document the new format as I implement it.
2574  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.94 is out on: August 05, 2016, 12:21:50 AM
What top block is Armory displaying on the bottom right corner? Also, update to 0.94.1 already.
2575  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will old wallet versions forever be supported? on: August 04, 2016, 10:56:38 AM
yes
2576  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 03, 2016, 01:03:27 AM
Qt started spamming this
Code:
-ERROR - 1470184862: (SocketObject.cpp:272) readFromSocketThread poll returned POLLNVAL, errnum: 0, errmsg: Success

Then it hung with this
Code:
-ERROR - 1470184862: (SocketObject.cpp:139) POLLNVAL in writeToSocket

And then I had to kill it.

I'm working on this one.

The db had this error message
Code:
-ERROR - 1470184739: (BDM_Server.cpp:637) caught isEmpty in Clients maintenance loop

This is a debug statement, the error isn't benign.

Quote
Also, trying to view any transaction that I received gets me
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "ArmoryQt.py", line 3626, in dblClickLedger
    self.showLedgerTx()
File "ArmoryQt.py", line 3649, in showLedgerTx
DlgDispTxInfo( pytx, self.walletMap[wltID], self, self, txtime=txtime).exec_()
File "/home/andy/bitcoin/BitcoinArmory/qtdialogs.py", line 5667, in __init__
    self.data = extractTxInfo(pytx, txtime)
File "/home/andy/bitcoin/BitcoinArmory/qtdialogs.py", line 5594, in extractTxInfo
    prevTx = TheBDM.bdv().getTxByHash(prevTxHash)
File "/home/andy/bitcoin/BitcoinArmory/CppBlockUtils.py", line 1276, in getTxByHash
def getTxByHash(self, *args): return _CppBlockUtils.BlockDataViewer_getTxByHash(self, *args)
RuntimeError

I think some transactions didn't make it into the db.

I'm aware of this, will look at it after I stabilize the client.
2577  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Issue with restored wallet on: August 03, 2016, 12:31:03 AM
log files
2578  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 02, 2016, 07:36:10 PM
Nope... Gui was functional enough to shut down with the actual gui, and the Db went down gracefully with it.

At least it's one step further to being stable, I'll take solace in that.
2579  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 02, 2016, 07:17:30 PM
I've seen the same debug statements on my end. Is you DB/GUI stuck or crashed? Shouldn't be.
2580  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 02, 2016, 05:43:29 PM
delete the content of your databases folder and try again
