2561  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Journey to the Mars,Elon Musk vision! on: October 18, 2019, 10:47:28 PM
The private company Spacex is getting ready to move the passengers from Earth to Moon by the year 2025 and also he mentioned that they will move 1 Million people to Mars and create the first civilization of Mars along with himself.

Do you believe this will become possible in the next five year? Or just a sci-fiction story!

how can make civilization on mars ?? if the climate there is very extreme during the day and night.
our earth already has everything that humans need.
for me it was an impossible thing to do.

Its not impossible, but not necessarily economical or sensical.

What is cheaper? A colony:

Underwater (Earth)
Desert (Earth)
Poles (Artic/Antartic)
Orbit (Earth)
Lagrange points (spots in space where you can park things like rotating colonies/stations)
Orbit from different celestial objects (other planet/satellites)
Moon surface/underground/poles
Mars surface/underground/poles

I don't say it should not be done, tried/experimented, but it is far from being optimal. Good science can come from it, for example the Antarctic experience can help in Mars, but don't expect "millions" of people thrilled with the idea, i don't see a million people living in McMurdo, the largest in Antarctica, let alone in space or another planet.

As a matter of fact, that is precisely what i expect would be the possible "colonies", not too far in size from McMurdo (about a thousand people).

Find out how much USA spends in keeping that place alive. Logistics alone, and that isn't space, its just the southernmost continent on Earth.
There have been attempts to simulate enclosed colonies here on Earth, and they have failed. But in Mars (or Space) you can't call it quits and open the doors.

One big problem Elon may face is, that while he may get the capacity, there will simply not be such a high demand. He has other more pragmatic ideas, such as suborbital flights of cargo and passengers, or even giving tours to rich people to Moon orbit. Mars still looks far away, beyond possibly a small research station. It is even cheaper to put a station in (Mars) orbit, or perhaps even needed for remote controlling construction drones in the surface before landing any humans.

So yes, it looks far in time to me. Nothing wrong with the idea and vision tho.
2562  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why is Turkey attacking the Kurds? Potential WW3? on: October 18, 2019, 09:35:37 PM
snip

As Carlton Banks above has noted, this could have never been a problem if the Kurds were given their homeland considering the area they inhabit would form a contiguous area if it was cut off from Syria and Turkey. Unfortunately at this point in time the hatred between all parties involved is enough to perpetuate the cycle, as seen by the post I quoted below.

Everyone thinks these terrorists are innocent. This must be a joke but these are not funny for us. We'll destroy them.

I can bet they also talk to their kids about the Turks this way.

What hatred are you talking about? Turkish soldiers and Turks have never killed Kurds, but YPG kills civilian Turks every day. You can’t understand problem of this area. Come here and see if you wonder. See for yourself whether Turks or YPG are more tolerant and friendly. You don’t know anything Smiley

How were the Kurdish regions "pacified" and incorporated into modern Turkey? I don't need to go there, I live in a country with separatists. We say they bomb us, they say we bomb them. I'd say they did horrible things but I'm not naive and accept the possibility they've suffered as much as us too (considering their region sucks compared to mine, not to mention they're killing each other too).

This turmoil with the Kurds ain't ending anytime soon. You can commit genocide on a people but you can't kill an idea. Unlikely but hopefully a larger crisis can be averted.

This reminds me of the Sahrawi, except those guys did have a proper territory, but Morocco simply annexed it and pushed all of them to neighbor Argelia, Western Sahara, so they now all live in tents in the desert. There is no oil or anything of interest, no one cares. Why would Turkey be "bad", while Morocco is "nice"?

The Kurds claim what is essentially half the territory of Turkey, what did you expect? Hey, Mexico wants their lands back, you know, California, Texas, etc. What gives?

Sounds to me like good old fashioned human history (I have more guns, leave or die). Oh and don't get me started with Palestine...

Hypocrisy.

2564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will Be 1M$ if all countries Ban it on: October 18, 2019, 08:18:12 PM
IF the whole world ban BTC at first BTC will Crash very hard but only for a few month, Demand will be increased while there will be no Legal Seller, All trade will go to undergrand and  Black market and illegal traffic, sellers will start to selling BTC 50 X more than current price. BTC will be more expensive, As simple as that,
That was an answer for these who said BTC will die if whole world Ban it, So no BTC never Die.

I don't understand why you didn't reply in the other thread, but no, not necessarily.

You see people here saying demand will go down which pushes the price down, and added difficulty in getting them would drive the price up, so you could even say it cancels each other.

1M$ is out of the question, unless the USD collapses, maybe from the recurring bubbles produced by the school of Chicago dogma in economy, or people simply figuring out what fractional reserve banking is.
2565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opinion - The HK protesters should take advantage of Bitcoin on: October 18, 2019, 06:26:25 PM
Thats a good point. The hongkong protesters should all buy bitcoin and will no longer use hongkong dollars. Insted of using banks they should shift to bitcoin so that their funds could not be freezed by the government. Also if they will no longer use their own currency but cryptocurrency it will have an economic effect that will be felt by the whole country.

The HKD is one of the few fiat currencies in the world not controlled by the State, instead its controlled by 4 large private banks. Until the central government of China decides to end their "autonomy", which seems to be the case here...

As heroic as they may look, i don't think they have the slightest chance against the behemoth they are fighting. The day the UK left, that was the end of HK as separate entity, this was bound to happen and the protesters are even giving the central government the perfect excuse for more State intervention.

Think of what would happen in the USA if a State wanted to leave the union. Remember those Texans that wanted to leave? Or that California Republic thing?

Who is going to step up the plate and defend those protesters? Trump?

Bitcoin is not going to do much for them, their struggle is on a different level. If they do gain independence (which i seriously doubt), they could pick bitcoin as national currency and adopt Austrian economics but i doubt such an utopian place will be allowed anywhere on this planet (yet).

Hong Kong is not new to electronic money, they have been using a form of refillable prepaid card since the 90ies, originally for transport but also widely accepted in convenience stores etc. This (Octopus) system is also integrated into smartphones nowdays IIRC.

If anything, the place is too advanced for something central (backwards) China to accept, they have to force it into submission, which is what the protest is about. But they are few, and the behemoth is the largest military in the world.
2566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin May Extinct on: October 18, 2019, 05:55:47 PM
Gents, Am I the only one thinks that bitcoin can be erased in the same way it is created? Dont you think any attack can kill it?
No.

What will happen after satoshi dies?
Nothing. Satoshi disappeared and its still working.

What will happen when bitcoin stands alone.
It will keep working.

What will happen if it is banned globally?
It will keep working.

What if goverments start working on killing bitcoin?
They can't.

Dont you think goverments can work on it to kill it?
No, even if banned worldwide.

Currently, its legal in far more countries, only 15 banned it and they are very unsuccessful from stopping their own citizens from using it (see China).

Btc is not like gold. You cant make the gold disappear suddenly as it is possible for btc. I am a fan of btc but I am also scared. It should be protected but who will do it? Exchanges? The top btc holder?
The gold is physical, and it can be seized (Done in the USA during the 30ies), bitcoin can't be seized unless you give it or fail to protect your seed words and obfuscate your transactions.

Bitcoin was specifically designed against those fears of yours, it is the very reason the markets give it the highest value.
2567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers targeting Tor on: October 18, 2019, 05:38:43 PM
Fortunately I've never use Tor but this is a very alarming issue for everyone inside or outside of crypto space, given that the compromised version is the official Tor browser itself which make hard for a regular user to notice and it's been running for many years  Shocked Shocked No wonder why the case of stolen Bitcoin is increasing.

How could you be so clueless. This is tiresome, really.

Ever heard of people losing coins for downloading "compromised" wallets? Guess what, those were "official" too. Duh. They take the official thing, and add their malware, as it has been for decades. This used to be called Trojan, but could also be labeled phishing, as it usually involves a legit looking website (tho it could be simply infected files at a popular "downloads" site).

Tell you what, this means "hackers" are NOT attacking Bitcoin, not even the wallet. The ones attacked are the clueless people that download those dubious things in the first place. Its more social than technical...

Do you get it now or i have to spell it for you? This is NOT an "attack" to Tor, and is not "alarming" AT ALL, more like "duh, the usual windows trojan".

For starters don't use windows/osx/android/ios if you value security. Then we can go on with the important stuff, but at least that gets rid of 80% of the problem.

Tor is safe, Bitcoin is safe. Humans are not safe, humans fooled by other humans into downloading fake or tainted software, are not safe. Infamous layer 8...
2568  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Inheriting Bitcoin on: October 18, 2019, 05:12:23 PM
While I was browsing the latest Bitcoin news to search for an update positive and negative once then I stumble upon this article that insists that you can now pass on your Bitcoin when you die when you used their service,

And this is Casa's Bitcoin inheriting Service that I think will surely be helpful in the future when you passed away (knock on the hood) and your family and relative doesn't know a thing about cryptocurrency and your Pass Phrase as well, Well I think there is a risk involved in this kind of service your relatives can sure recover your Private key but it can be also an exploit to be stolen as well, but they had promised a multi-sig system that can make the inheritance safer what do you guys think?

Put your seed words in a bank safebox and have it in your will. Or any variant thereof. All you need to give are those seed words, use your imagination how you could securely pass them. The will could contain the instructions, or point them here lol.

Mind you, you can make a multi sig wallet yourself too, its not like you need to pay others to do it...
2569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Brexit became the reason of Bitcoin’s downfall? on: October 17, 2019, 09:51:20 PM
Forsaking EU had been the long controversial topic in Britain, the previous PM, Theresa May tried for 2 long years to negotiate with the EU regarding Brexit, but the recent PM had been the epicenter of the earthquake called Brexit.

I don't see how this could have any repercussions to Bitcoin. If the UK economy and £ crashes (which i doubt) it might prompt some people there to buy BTC.

Downfall? Not in your wildest dreams. It might push the price up a little at most, but only if enough people fear the £ will fall. They never adopted the € anyway so i don't see much how this would be unless its just the result of a much weaker economy product of barriers of commerce with its neighbors.
2570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 85% of All Bitcoin Have Now Been Mined!!! on: October 17, 2019, 09:41:29 PM
Not to sound too pessimistic but sometimes news about totally mining bitcoins kind of scares me. I tend to think, what is going to motivate miners to continue to keep the bitcoin blockchain network up and running when there is nothing to give them. We all know that the cost of running the bitcoin network is quite high and miners use the rewards gained from mining as a source of income to cater for their expenses.

However, if these miners decide to keep the blockchain network operating then i think bitcoin transaction fees is going to go a bit higher.

Last coin will be minted around 2140, but mining will become unprofitable much much earlier, much sooner than you think, in the next few years i think, or maybe a decade.

The network doesn't mind, when the large miners go, those that remain will keep it alive. That is why every 2016 blocks it readjusts difficulty. It is designed with this in mind.

See, next year the prize for finding a block will go down to 6.25 BTC, in 2024 it is 3.125 BTC, in 2028 1.5625 BTC...

Are you scared? This has been designed like this since the beginning, perhaps some people with money to burn just don't get it. But is hardly a surprise.

You may be surprised, but these design choices are what made Bitcoin as valuable as it is today, and tomorrow.

Deflation is coming, and its good, it means the end of bubbles, and fractional reserve banking with its debt and vapor money...
2571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and kiddie porn on: October 17, 2019, 09:25:18 PM
Carlton Banks has a decent point though - BTC is fairly easy to use for new customers, compared to XMR (where you can't see the transactions, need several things to send one, etc).

BTC might not be the safest or the most anonymous crypto-currency for criminals to use, but it offers benifits over fiat currency and there isn't need for the criminals to use Monero.

The Guardian is a shitty publisher that manipulates articles to support whatever cause they support, and this time they set their eye on BTC.

The hilarious part about Monero, is that you don't get the anonymous features unless you use a console only wallet with the specific options, ie. far far from user friendliness. But that's ok, people should know better. If the criminals ever get smart enough there, authorities would have to fall back to more classic approaches, such as infiltrating the thing, or often, making the thing themselves.

Ever heard that joke about the Communist party in the USA being all FBI? Same thing.
2572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Half of the airport’s workstations infected with a crypto mining software on: October 17, 2019, 09:17:32 PM
There is a cybersecurity firm that published a blog post claiming they figured over 50% of the airport’s workstations were riddled with a crypto mining software despite the fact the workstations have 'industry-standard' antivirus and were not able to detect it.

They don"t know since how many times the malware was in place because they just started to work with the airport, so possibly for months. The airport didn't notice anything before.

Quote
In a worst-case scenario, attackers could have breached the IT network as a means to hop onto the airport’s OT network in order to compromise critical operational systems ranging from runway lights to baggage handling machines and the air-train, to name a few of the many standard airport OT systems that could be cyber-sabotaged to cause catastrophic physical damage.

I wonder how many others are actually targeted like this one.

Many, many ATMs use x86 PCs with windows, color me surprised. They are often installed and forgotten from an IT standpoint, unless they break completely. Same with PoS, or the various computers they use both public facing and internally. They get infected with all kinds of malware, which probably includes the monero mining ones.

Perhaps they had some antivirus, they can't bother updating frequently from fear of breaking something else, until the malware breaks them, of course. But some malware is smart enough to not break its host. If you are on windows, try to learn from the experience. Its not like this is "news" whatsoever, its been like that for decades, people just never learn.

We have talked about it here before, if you abandon Windows, OSX, Android and iOS, you are 80% there. But even within the IT people there are many who don't ever bother learning using anything else, since these always break operating systems bring food to the table. But if you read this, you already know better, now its your turn: Start with Linux, its good for you. Don't ever change, and your turn will come.
2573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 bitcoin risks you should know when investing in bitcoin on: October 17, 2019, 09:00:00 PM
Legal risks
Bitcoin can be used for black market transactions, money laundering, illegal activity or tax evasion. Therefore, governments can seek to regulate and regulate the use or trading of bitcoin.

For example, in 2015, the New York State Department of Financial Services finalized regulations that would require companies to process purchases, sales, transfers, or store bitcoins to record customer identities. Transactions of $ 10,000 or more will have to be recorded and reported.
In addition, the lack of uniform regulations on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies raises questions about their lifetime, liquidity and popularity.
Same as fiat. FUD as usual.
Security risks
As with any system, Bicoin transactions are at risk of being hacked, malware and malfunctioning during operation. If a hacker gains access to the Bitcoin owner's computer hard drive and steals the private key, he can transfer the stolen Bitcoin to another account.
A particularly notorious theft took place in 2014, when Mt. Gox, a Bitcoin exchange in Japan, was forced to shut down after Bitcoin worth millions of dollars was stolen.
Oh, as if "hackers" never got into Banks online, or never phished people's passwords from their own computers, ever...
Fraud risks
Because the issuance of cryptocurrencies, ICOs etc. has not been regulated by the government yet, scammers can sell fake bitcoin. For example, in July 2013, the SEC took legal action against a Ponzi program operator related to Bitcoin.
Obviously Ponzi, the Italian, had to use Bitcoin, not USD, all the way back in the early 20ieth century, no one ever faked USD banknotes, no reason whatsoever they changed all the banknotes when they introduced the colored ones, it was just for cosmetic reasons alone...
Tax risks
In March 2014, the IRS announced that all cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, would be taxed as an asset. Therefore, there is no legal way to protect Bitcoin earnings from taxes
Hmm lets say you travel, and buy some property cheap. Some years later, you travel again and sell it, all that profit goes into a bank of that country, you return. IRS? Nope. Well Bitcoin is similar, nothing occurs physically in your country, if you ever declare something, its voluntary, because you are a nice law abiding citizen.
2574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and kiddie porn on: October 17, 2019, 08:47:28 PM

Well, obviously they didn't. Bitcoin isn't terribly anonymous, especially if people don't use a different address on each transaction. In these types of operations often the weak link lies in the laziness of the people involved. In any investigation, they have to find out which address belongs to whom, and then start solving the puzzle.

Linking the alleged operation to Bitcoin is stupid, Bitcoin has nothing to do with it, its a coin like any other, and if people think they can evade justice with it, they have to think twice. Yes its "possible", just like its possible with fiat, but that doesn't mean its going to "protect" you if you don't have a clue.

There are many details that we will never know. Did the site changed the address for payments on each payment? I doubt it. Did the users? unlikely. Can the agents infiltrate and start gathering incriminating data? probably. And none of it has anything to do with Bitcoin. If anything it may be that Koreans like Bitcoin but that's about it.

The media, as usual, wants to correlate Bitcoin with evil, always. Since the very beginning, back when Satoshi still posted, with the Wikileaks donations.
2575  Other / Off-topic / Re: Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 to apply blockchain technology for voting on: October 17, 2019, 04:29:57 PM
Miss Universe Vietnam is one of the largest, most prestigious beauty pageants in the nation recently. It is also the "career launcher" for names like Pham Huong or H'Hen Nie, who has represented Vietnam beauty in international contests. With the 2019 edition, the competition will apply a blockchain platform to enhance the integrity of voting.

Well that is nice and trendy, but remember that using "blockchain" alone isn't too different than any regular database. If the system is truly decentralized, anyone can run nodes and several pop up, then you are into something. Blockchain alone isn't sufficient.

This works the same for any type of voting. Next is to ensure one person only gets one vote, without losing their anonymity...

We also have the same organization here, but in recent years it got involved into a huge scandal of candidates getting promoted in exchange of sexual favors.

My country has the most winners but i don't particularly like it. And yes, its also "the largest, most prestigious", or was, don't know now... There is also Miss World and some others, but miss Universe used to be the top one, maybe still is.

2578  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as Safe Haven? on: October 17, 2019, 02:22:38 AM
If Bitcoin is supposed to be a safe haven, why is BTC price keeps going down, down, and down while the world is on fire. The news that Turkey just invaded Syria should be positive news for Bitcoin. Oh, Iraqis going at it, Hong Kong, Haiti. What's going on folks? In a sea of red today, DECENTRALAND (MANA) price is up 4.5%.

Ask yourself the same question 10 years from now, and you will understand.

Wars tend to destabilize economies, in the regions where its occurring, but it also fuels the non affected economies. The conflicts you mention are very local and some are non issue, ie. Hong Kong is simply some people angry with their government and their government will squash them, period. Not unlike the 1% protesters of New York nobody remembers anymore. Turkey and Syria is quite old news, Syria has been in a state of war for years in parts of its territory. All their neighbors will do business as usual, and in fact some even profit with the misery of others. And no one cares for Haiti or my country for that matter, the Caribbean is boring.

What you ask is not even Bitcoin related, but market related. Why markets behave the way they do. For Bitcoin its fiat price is something external, Bitcoin will work just fine no matter how much or how little people are willing to exchange their fiat coins for it.

8k something that was worth zero 10 years ago? I say this is a triumph.
2579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Learn About A Fellow Bitcoiner on: October 17, 2019, 02:02:10 AM
Hello people, I am interested about learning about people within the community of Bitcoin and Blockchain. So I have some questions to learn more about you. Feel free to share your experiences.

1. How has bitcoin/blockchain changed your life?
2. What kind of work do you do?
3. What kind of work do you wish you could do?
4. What do you wish to see bitcoin become?

I`ll start.

1. It has changed my life in many different ways, After learning about the genesis block and the message it contained it really had me thinking about banks and money. Blockchain really made me think my life is a blockchain and everything I do, every thought I have is timestamped in time forever. I can`t lie anymore, I went back and fixed all my mistakes. It made me a completely new man and changed my entire perspective on life.

2. I am a jack of all trades, farmer, roofer, bricklayer, streamer and pro gamer, currently I am trying to get good a future e sport warcraft 3 reforged while I increase my knowledge of blockchain case uses, just for fun as a hobby. I will be farming again when I get enough to fix my tractor, feeding people makes my life have a purpose, I create creations and feed those creations to people who can create more creations, even if it is just poo.

3. I wish I could fly drones in space and map the universe for us, I like stuff that deals with psychology and astrology, so something like that.

4. I wish Bitcoin replaces gold and time/duration replaces fiat, and we trade time/duration coins into bitcoin. I wish that the united nations unites to become the United Nation and we have bitcoin as are global reserve currency. I wish somehow Bitcoin evolves into the government, courts and laws, I hope somehow we can add a tx fee that goes to support public projects like space exploration, garabage, food, water and shelters for every person, Run by everyone and voted upon by everyone where the funds go that are in the censuses of the network, Not run by who has the most cpu power or most cpu`s but ran by each user on the network.

Anyways, hope to hear from some other member's, feel free to lie about your work if you don`t like giving personal details or just skip that question, Have a wonderful day everyone.

  • It is providing me a (very small) means of income for buying food and paying bills, while surviving hyperinflation.
  • Mostly IT related. I like computer games, but not as a second job (ie. farming or e-sport professional).
  • Anything not stressful that provides stable income. Your "drones to map space" sounds more Astronomy than Astrology.
  • Bitcoin should become the world's most used currency. Exchanging for national currencies is obsolete.
2580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, do you guys think cryptocurrencies will be gone anytime soon? on: October 16, 2019, 11:26:00 PM
I haven't been trading my bitcoins and cryptos since this year begins, but I have noticed that the hype train is slowing down since then, compared to last year. I want some honest opinion about the future outlook of BTC or crypto per se. Should investors invest in it ?

I don't know about altcoins, they seem to come and go like the wind, especially all the (thousands) of lesser ones. But Bitcoin is here to stay. If a coin depends on a company to survive, its worthless.

Always make this test: Can you do something that could make the coin go? Ie. imprison somebody, or force close a company or group that would make it stop? If yes, you have your answer (hint: centralization = garbage).

What can you do to stop Bitcoin?
