There definitety has to be a safe ceiling from the start to avoid big stake. Something like 5 000 for everyone in this thread, 10 000 for people who participate in any way, maybe 15000 for people who got scammed by Visacoin etc...30 000 for devs. Just an idea...May come in very different form.
And if op wants to be trusted, he'll have to give a proof that he keeps a limited amount, something like 100 000 i don't know, just throwing things.

As far as i'm concerned, buying NEX with NXT is a no go. It's totally out of picture. People will never trust that.

Keep thinking on how best to distribute the coin.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Keep testing the client folks.

Let me know if there are any issues.

Once we validate functionality,  we'll be on our way to creating a distribution!!!

Welcome to Open, Free and Fair!!

WARNING!

I HIGHLY SUSPECT THIS SOFTWARE WILL STEAL YOUR NXT PASSWORD!  BE CAREFUL!

Yes I don't see the point of someone who is so against NXT posting their 'own' version that is the same as NRS plus whatever modification they chose to put in it.

Because he's a scammer and a thief.

The source code is available to all to see.

Furthermore,  the client is only for our testers.   If you want to test, then test on a sandbox with an account with next to nothing.
2584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT - Imagine Fairness! on: January 20, 2014, 05:49:32 PM
TESTERS!

You can find the client here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/nexcoin/files/Nxt/

It should work like the regular client.

This is extremely early alpha work, so just send really amounts of Nxt to test.

Do you intend to use the same port i.e. https://localhost:7875/?

If so, on opening the client you can see NXT Peers....

This is just an alpha client that connect to the Nxt network.

We will migrate off it when we IPO.

So....what is the point exactly?

To baseline the current implementation.

A few questions:

First: I still haven't got an answer to my serious question how you are going to avoid a tech based bias in your distribution.
It seems that people that are less able to do your beta testing or development (for all that I applaud merit based distribution) will almost automatically have a better chance at a bigger stake. Would you please explain if and how you plan to avoid this?

Second, as a Nxt holder (a small one) I seem to be in a better position to acquire NEX. Again, thanks for the advantage, but how does that promote a fairer distribution? I actually earned all my Nxt with bounties, so now I am basically NEX easier because I own Nxt?

Thanks for the answers.

There are a lot of ways to contribute that goes beyond knowing technology.

Creating graphics,  writing articles,  selling on eBay, ..  it is wide open!

We don't want want Nxt holders to feel disenfranchised with NEX development so we are offering the opportunity to translate their holdings.   You will have to exchange your Nxt into NEX.   We priced it extremely low so that you have every chance to gain.

We are also giving away coins to VisaCoin holders who were unfairly scammed.  We don't have to do it,  but this would only be fair.

Thanks for the answers. Smiley

What is your view on NEX and NXT existing side by side?
I ask this, because the NXT community is committed to NXT, too, and a smart investor doesn't put all his money on one card.
I also ask this because two coins continually fighting each other is basically bad business.

As a last one, because it's a difficult one: I personally dislike the word "fair" in business. I make money because I have skills that others do not have. I also make money because I am willing to put in the effort. There is a real issue also for the NEX community after the IPO closes how it will address the people who will enter after IPO and *will* have to pay more if it is a success.

You can either invest in a proprietary rigged coin or you can invest on one that is open and free.

We believe in an open and free process will trump out a proprietary process.

im interested. do i need to do something else for this charity IPO or does this suffice

yes... but if you want more... then contribute effort

TESTERS!

You can find the ALPHA TEST CLIENT here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/nexcoin/files/Nxt/

It should work like the regular Nxt client.

This is extremely early alpha work, so just send really amounts of Nxt to test.

Download and unzip the NEX client on your computer where you can easily locate it.

Using your command line window, navigate to the folder/directory of the NEX Client.

Start Java from within the directory using the following command:

java -jar start.jar

After you have installed the NEX client and navigated to https://127.0.0.1:7875

Preliminary analysis of Nxt code indicates the following:

Dodgy Code (87 instances)
--> Misuse of static fields - 60 times
Bad Practice (50 Instances)
---> System.exit called 18 times!
Null Pointer Dereference (2)

anyway... total of 588 bugs.

like I said... garbage.

anyway improvements are coming along!

How have you come to such numbers?

We are professionals.

Did Frictionlesscoin answer how NEX should be distributed as
Quote
There is no cost to acquire coins, only your interest would suffice!
?

Frictionless can you answer that yourself?

Yes, there is no cost for everyone.

For the VisaCoin holders who lost their money there is zero cost.

For the NXT folks who feel disenfranchised,  they can trade in their coins for 50x more coins (with limits).

This didn't answer how the initial distribution is supposed to work. All to Visacoin holders??

Did you not read,  1% allocated to all Visacoin victims.  We can tell who is a victim by the timestamp of the transaction.

NEX distribution to be fair to all will be merit based.

You automatically get a percentage of NEX if you show interest.

You get a percentage every time you contribute to NEX.

For the Nxt users who feel disenfranchised,  we will allocate 5% of NEX that they can purchase in exchange for NXT.  We will offer a steep discount of 1 NXT for 50 NEX.   5% of NEX is 50 million coins, this is a hard limit.  Nxt Coin holders are limited to 500,000 NEX per user.   The offer ends when NEX is distributed or the 5% is exhausted.   Nxt owners... this is your opportunity to become an early adopter.

We will also allocate 1% for VISACOIN investors who lost their money.  This requires verification only that they sent BTC to the VISACOIN BTC donation address.  This is given freely.

I will test.

But here's a serious question.

If you contribute "money" (which is value, energy), how is that not "fair"?

You realize that money in itself isn't evil right? You realize also some people don't have time to contribute to your project by the means you want, but when they want to buy something they give you money in exchange.

You're trying to make a "fair" distribution. Good luck with that, it will never be completely fair. But you're already stumbled upon these problems yourself...

It started as a joke now it is looking more and more like a scam.

Go for NEM https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422129.0 There will be no arbitrary rule of distribution and no dictatorship.  Everything will be shared equally for everyone showing the interest.

I have lost 1.56 BTC in VisaCoin, so I'd be extremely interested to get the extra 1% + more extra by helping in testing.

Thank you

Link to me your blockchain.info for the 1.56 you sent to VisaCoin.   We sympathize with you and will do what we can to help you out.   Also,  contributions at this time gets you a bigger share than cash.   Just do the math!

First feature : Forging bonus for small stakeholders over big stakeholders. Forging rate ceiling over 100000 NEX.
Second : Max 50000 NEX per person at first ipo/distribution watsoever you call it.

Do that and you win  Smiley

Interesting...  let me think about this.

Well hear this:

He offers a large stake of NEX coins to the NXT owners. And who has the largest stake in NXT? The big shareholders. The guys that you Frictionless opposed in the first place. You are against this distribution and now you offer re-distribution of NEX to the rich NXTers who are given the best deal.

Are you FRIKKING KIDDING US ALL?

You know what I think...either you really don't get it or you're butthurt because you don't have NXT.

That is why there is a limit of 500,000 NEX per Nxt user.  Besides,  it is only 5%.  Think about it,  if less than 1,000 people express interest in NEX,  each user will get 1,000,000 NEX.
