2581  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: So what the hell are we supposed to buy? on: April 26, 2013, 12:07:11 PM
As it's apparent ASICs are coming/here, I also want to get in, but unlike most rich people, and I mean rich about people whose standards are that 10k is cheap, normal and can be gotten within 2-3 months of work or whatever.

With all due respect, you have no idea who is rich and who is not.  Nor do you know what priorities/sacrifices people will make to buy the higher priced hardware.

Haven't we all heard enough childish whining about "only rich people can mine now"?

Your choices are very simple.  Buy an ASIC or don't buy an ASIC.  How much you or can or are willing spend is completely independent of how rich you are.

Just updated to version 3.0.1 my 7970 runs fine but my 5770 just gives error.
invalid nonce - HW error.

I'm using ccc version 13.4 on windows 7 64bit.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?
Put on separate MBs and it should work ok. Same MB not so much. Is in the readme about mixing and matching different series cards. Drivers work great on one aren't great on the other and sometimes cause other issues. Segregate into only 5XXX, 6XXX, or 7XXX cards to a rig and it will work great.

I have had no issue before in this setup only when I updated to the latest version of cg miner as I don't get this problem on ver 2.11.4

Quote
Q: Which AMD SDK is the best for cgminer?
A: At the moment, versions 2.4 and 2.5 work the best for R5xxx and R6xxx GPUS.
SDK 2.6 or 2.7 works best for R7xxx. SDK 2.8 is known to have many problems.
If you are need to use the 2.6+ SDK or R7xxx or later, the phatk kernel will
perform poorly, while the diablo or my custom modified poclbm kernel are
optimised for it.

The latest 3.01 CGminer is getting detected by Kaspersky as UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic

Anyone see the same?

Quote
Q: Is this a virus?
A: Cgminer is being packaged with other trojan scripts and some antivirus
software is falsely accusing cgminer.exe as being the actual virus, rather
than whatever it is being packaged with. If you installed cgminer yourself,
then you do not have a virus on your computer. Complain to your antivirus
software company. They seem to be flagging even source code now from cgminer
as viruses, even though text source files can't do anything by themself.
2584  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: which one is better, PPS, PPLNS and RBPPS? on: April 26, 2013, 11:04:11 AM
hard to decide to go to which pool.    Huh

Anyone can give some insight views?

The previous 2 replies have very good information and are insightful.

I would add that in this mining environment that you want a pool/payout system that is a very low/no risk to the pool.  It is very easy for a pool to go under quickly with PPS.  So I, personally, won't use PPS anymore.

So I would lean toward PPLNS or DGM.

Hi,

just started to use cgminer a few days ago. It's amazing! gpu engine and max-temp parameters are just great for me. But I'm looking for a special function, maybe somebody could help: I would like to schedule the setting for max temperature: for example 75 °C at day and 80 °C at night. Would that work - and if, how? My mining computer stands in an office room, so at day (especially in summer) it must have lower temperatures. At night they can be higher, when nobody is there.

Anyone an idea?

I don't think there is a scheduling function in CGMiner, at least I haven't seen any reference to scheduling in the documentation in the top post of this thread.

Unless your changing your engine clocks, your GPU's are generating the same amount of waste heat whether your target temp is 75c or 80c.  At 80 your fans will just have to work less as they won't have to spin up to a higher speed.  So I would think you would want to have the higher temp during the day so that the fans don't make as much noise.

At any rate I think changing your target temp will have little effect on the temperature in the room.

-I d,9,9,9

You should set the flags as follows :
-I 9 -d 0 -d 1 -d 2 -d 3

For BTC mining keep the memory to 300 should be fine

I think batcoin's Intensity settings are correct.

I've never seen "-I 9 -d 0 -d 1 -d 2 -d 3" for setting intensity.  Does it work for you?  But he still wants one GPU set to Dynamic.
Sam

Works perfectly fine why shouldn't it?
According to the readme 9 is fine for a dedicated miner.

I was referring to assigning GPU's individually with the -d 0 thru -d 3.  CGMiner uses all GPU's by default.  But, hey whatever works for you.

I'm sure intensity of 9 is fine.

2588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CGminer basic questions, "rejected" on: April 21, 2013, 04:12:34 AM
Would that imply that I would not see if everything is submitting correctly if I am currently running solo?

When mining solo there are no shares.  Only Block Solutions are accepted.

So what does it mean when they are "rejected"? I have read the readme, still can't find a basic answer. So far I have 2 rejected..
(still mining solo)

Whats the exact verbiage or maybe get a screen shot of the message?  I wouldn't expect to see a rejected share when just solo mining.  Do you have failover pools configured?

Also you can try verbose and see if more information is available

--verbose           Log verbose output to stderr as well as status output

I would still post in the CGMiner thread as maybe others would have more experience with what you are trying to do.
2589  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer, "dead" gpus on: April 21, 2013, 04:08:25 AM
ok I switched the 2x 7950 with the 2x 7970 and the SICK followed the 7950 but the 7970s were fine in the other board.

is it worth trying old drivers and old SDK?

I sounds to me like you got a dead GPU.

But it may be worth while to try older catalyst and SDK as I think there was an issue with the latest.  Did you check the readme file or post in the CGMiner thread?

Hi os2sam,

thanks for your reply, I tried my cards individually on a new mobo / install and one of them still gets sick. The other seems to be fine, has been mining for a while without failing.
I haven't tried the sick card for gaming but it appears to work fine until mining when it gets the AMD driver has stopped responding. Could you RMA for this reason? I thought they just test it and say well it posts therefore it's not faulty?

I've never had to RMA a GPU yet so I don't know.  I suppose I would try it on a higher end game or the demo's in GPU Caps Viewer and see what happens.  If it causes problems then you have two reasons.  Otherwise I would just say it fails under load.

I am solo mining litecoin using CGminer, running at 18 intensity on 3 7950s. I recently got the prompt "rejected" and an address. What would that imply?

Also, how do I close CGminer in order to get the full log readout? When I X out it just terminates completely.

(also, it loads up with "not enough work" constantly, any way to reduce that?")

I would suggest reading the readme file and the top post in the CGMiner thread and post your questions in that thread if you still have questions.

I feel this is better in this section.

What do you mean by that?  Better in the "Mining software (miners)" section instead of the CGMiner section?

Why?

OzcoinWidget no more working?

Probably because Ozcoin isn't working at the moment. Sad

This is interesting: I just realized, the theif can't spend this money for ANYTHING at ANY point in time!

That address will be tracked by a hundred people for all future, I'm writing a system for this NOW.

Basically, he has BTC but as soon as he spends them, he will get caught!

Edit: Can someone point me to threads about this fact OR prove me wrong!

YOU CANNOT STEAL BITCOINS!

Rupy come on, you've been here since 2011 and you don't know about PPS or how stolen coins can't be tracked? All the thief has to do is collect the coins, use a mixing service or even an exchange and they'll never be tracked again.

I wonder if the developers are making any headway into blacklisting addresses or would that defeat the anonymity of BTC?

Or you could drop the wallet.dat into an online wallet service.

What good will blacklisting addresses do?  Anyone can create as many addresses as they want?

I want to run cgminer for my ati 5850 and ati drivers 12.8 (i didnt installed any sdk), i try with this bat:

When I installed Catalyst 12.1 for use with my 5000 series cards I had to do a custom install and deselect SDK 2.6 and then manually install SDK 2.5.  So if you didn't deselect the OpenCL SDK then the version that came with catalyst got installed and the post 2.6 versions are terrible for 5000 series GPU.

And to the original poster, I don't know if your still having problems or not, but, Phoenix may be submitting shares but it is not working correctly.  538Mhs should be submitting about twice as many shares than what you are showing.

UTFSE

Oh, and what does that mean?
2600  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer hardware errors | Phoenix 2 working | ??? on: April 18, 2013, 09:56:31 AM
I know this may be a crazy and radical idea which has no merit.  But maybe try posting in the CGMiner thread???

The best part is when google directs me here to find out why I'm getting hardware errors and hoping to see if there is a cause, and then to find nothing but a new redirect that includes a UTFSE directive!

Snap!

This problem has been discussed in the CGMiner thread and, I believe, maybe incorrectly, that the causes are also discussed in the readme file for CGMiner.

But my point then as it is now, just try posting in the appropriate thread that exists for CGMiner problems/questions.
