Is this over? I thought 36/40 available was 36 left of 40. I was interested in 2.

What does the UNtrustworthy next to Matt's name referr to?  He scammed somone?

time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)
I don't like it.

It embodies the assumption that any post above once per day (averaged over two weeks) is not contributing; which I do not agree with.

At the very least number of posts per day should be increased, e.g. min(time * 28, posts).

And you should consider more sophisticated metrics such as sum of f(x) over all two-week periods, f(x) being x / (1 + sqrt(x/14)) or x / (1 + x/28).

Time spent logged in will also be useful to include as a component.

I flunked math, but I could add that logged in time is easily gamable now with sites like newbiejail.org, so it would probably make more sense to judge length of posts as well. The best thing would be if Theymos accepted my request months ago to make a "post vote" and "user trust circle" function to allow for ratings of posts by content, eliminate newbie jail entirely by having a trusted user trust you, etc.

Are we going to rank via activity and not posts anymore?  What's considered an activity?
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Yet another GPU miner release! [YAC] on: June 18, 2013, 11:20:26 PM
Id' mine this coin if it had a better logo.  Someone actually made a Yak!  This coin coulda had so much potential if it wasn't GPU minable.. but it is..

It seems that under this weird circumstance, the GPU miner should be released.
Here it is:
Prebuilt binary for windows 64:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/hnindev/files/yaminer-beta-winx64-2.zip
Source code:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/hnindev/files/yaminer-beta-src-2.zip
Win32 binary built by Thirtybird: https://mega.co.nz/#!e1YVDBYZ!YSzn40ba5ciOVUeJjIcQnFxbvr0JhdYwkzqempL_l8Y
CL kernel with Lookup-Gap supported by mikaelh: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=232241.msg2502101#msg2502101
(Package Status: MINOR UPDATE, correct the program name issue, upgrade to cgminer 3.2.1, If you have working installation, no need to update.)

It's based on the cgminer scrypt mining, but there's some difference, the lookup-gap=2 + thread-concurrency parameters are just used to for allocate the pad buffer. The intensity (I) means the global work size 2^I, it seems to be related to the Nfactor & GPU stream cores & GPU memory size. For the GCN GPUs, set the worksize to 256 and for the pre-GCN GPUs, set the worksize to 64.

Some typical command lines:
For 5950
yacminer --device 0 --scrypt --worksize 64 --lookup-gap 2 -I 11 --thread-concurrency 8192 -o <URL> -u <username> -p <password>
Currently can hash 190KH/s (Nfactor=9)

For 6750
yacminer --device 0 --scrypt --worksize 64 --lookup-gap 2 -I 10 --thread-concurrency 2816 -o <URL> -u <username> -p <password>
Currently can hash 47KH/s (Nfactor=9)

For 7950
Some correction
[Under Linux]
yacminer --device 0 --scrypt --worksize 256 --lookup-gap 2 -I 12 --thread-concurrency 32768 -o <URL> -u <username> -p <password>
Currently can hash 230KH/s (Nfactor=9)
[Under Windows]
yacminer --device 0 --scrypt --worksize 256 --lookup-gap 2 -I 11 --thread-concurrency 8192 -o <URL> -u <username> -p <password>
Currently can hash ???KH/s (Nfactor=9)

When running under linux, maybe you need to set these environment variables:
Quote
export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1

[Compilation under linux]
It's quite easy if you've already complied cgminer once (have all the other dependency libraries installed)
Run:
Quote
chmod +x ./configure
./configure --enable-scrypt
make install
Then, it will be installed into the application's dir (typical /usr/local/bin).

[Known issue]
  • Because using the latest cgminer 3.2.0 code base, the network thread seems has slow reaction to submit hash & get a response at the beginning. After a while, it will become normal.
  • AMD Graphics drivers prior to 12.X may not work, so recommend using newer drivers.

PS, my GPU miner is not quite fast comparing to some others, and it may not work for some other cards.

278  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: What OS do you use on your mining comupters? on: June 18, 2013, 11:15:02 PM
Hello

I am curious what OS are you guys using on your mining computers. Your posts with answers why you are using that particular OS, and what mining software are you using will be much appriciated. I am doing this as a part of research, which will help me to decide what to (do not) do next.

Thank you

Windows 7 and I'm hating it.  should be running linux..
279  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: dirt-cheap mining plus free electricity on: June 18, 2013, 11:14:22 PM
I have limited funds but electricity is included in my rent. All things considered, what's the cheapest reasonable way that I can get into mining?

Buy one of those big rigs!  but becareful as your electrical usage will attract the authorities ad they think you're growing weed.
280  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5x7950 Gigabyte WF3 Rig using 1475 Watts!!! on: June 18, 2013, 11:13:28 PM
I am running 5 7950s, Gigabyte WF3 with the f43 undervolted bios and the rig is using 1475 watts at the wall.  I just purchased a kill-a-watt meter and am in disbelief.  I have flashed the f43 bios to the cards, so the voltage of the cards is now 1.09 volts.  That is like 300W per card!!!!!  This seems way to high.  I have read these cards are supposed to be using less than 200W per card.  Any suggestions?

Hard to find a household outlet to run this power level.
