261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitstamp hack confidential document has been leaked on: August 11, 2015, 05:02:07 AM

Gave it a read thanks for sharing.
I found the part about it being an active investigation interesting and wonder if the culprit was caught also the effort the hacker put in the attack.
Bitstamp did not restart their server but acted and used a backup, and Xapo was not a bad choice so respect there.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why i will support bigger blocks - and you should too on: August 11, 2015, 04:34:37 AM
The main problem is fewer and fewer people will be able to run nodes. Hard disk space is definitely not a problem, it gets cheaper, now bandwidth, thats another history, i dont think moore's law follows there, the bandwith development is not as steady as HDD development.

In a sense at least it is manageable with PCs Bitcoin would have been extremely concentrated up to the late 1990's
Unfortunately your right about the amount of bandwidth each user has to run nodes and it will be a significant problem unless bandwidth development accelerates at a similar pace to HDD.
263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who thinks Gavin Anderson knows who Satoshi is? on: August 11, 2015, 04:24:00 AM
Do you think Gavin has knowledge of who or how to reach Satoshi?

While he talked with Satoshi his real ID would not be known to him being psudeoanon.
Just as we have profile names and a real person behind each account he communicated with Satoshi as Satoshi not under a real name.
264  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevii are stalling Gemini until halving draws closer. on: August 11, 2015, 04:13:49 AM
This way they will have the highest change of launching and seeing a increase in price and it will look like they are the cause.  Investors will then flood to the ETF launched at a later date.

If its sounds like speculation and feels like speculation it probally is.
That said it makes sense in the view that if timing a new asset to coincide with a significant Bitcoin event triggers potential upside volatility and is near your release day then take advantage of it.
265  Economy / Economics / Re: Super Thursday: Bank of England votes 8-1 to hold interest rates on: August 11, 2015, 03:53:11 AM
Well as long as Mark Carney is overseeing the UK central bank the banking system will improve steadily.
Did a decent job in Canada which is in the gutter a bit with Poloz.
And providing some additonal info is always good.
On a day dubbed “Super Thursday”, the Bank broke with tradition to publish the MPC’s August rates decision, the minutes of the meeting, and its quarterly inflation report, alongside Bank governor Mark Carney’s regular press conference.

267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: mastercard attacking Bitcoin on: August 08, 2015, 09:59:15 PM
Western Union will be the first to go, we already got them actually:

Imagine how irrelevant it will be in 10 years. Will it even exist? Maybe if they rebrand themselves and work under the blockchain they can somehow survive a post crypto environment.

Well, thanks for sharing such an amazing and meaningful information, looking at the figures stated above I don't think that WU has a great future ahead, it would simply diminished, the only way to survive is they should lower their transaction cost, it could attract the customers.

Well in that week it managed to surpass WU.
Considering all the advertising and costs associated with WU's revenue model that is quite the impressive feat for Bitcoin.
268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Why I'm releasing a brainwallet cracker at DEFCON 23" on: August 08, 2015, 09:53:23 PM
With the issues of setting up an intelligent brainwallet, it makes sense that people would be better off not creating them unless aware and capable of securing them however if the wallet is unused and abandoned a few treasure troves are available for grabs.

The 250BTC Brainwallet passphrase was "how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood"
Someone didn't think that over.
269  Other / Meta / Re: Automatic Default Trust on: August 08, 2015, 09:44:03 PM
Legendary members should get automatic default trust capabilites, after a member becomes legendary, their post history and trust ratings should be screened, if everything looks good, they should automatically added to default trust.

what do you guys think?

No just no
It would set to many dependancies and a lot of problems including the fact that some might not have traded any goods/services cash with others among other cases.
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETHEREUM SCAM WARNING!! SCAM SCAM SCAM on: August 08, 2015, 09:28:49 PM
30k ETH on the sellside on poloniex. ~same amount on Kraken. Where will the price go when Millions of coins flooding the exchanges?

It will take a while for the supply to get there but I'm assuming that people were tired of having their Bitcoins locked for so long
So just got to wait a bit and let the blood settle then sneak in their as a speculator.
Just out of curiosity, what was the price of one Ether during the original IPO?
0.005 BTC
1 BTC = 2000 Ether
Mean 0.0005
271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi on Ethereum ? on: August 08, 2015, 09:24:11 PM
If Satoshi were to comment on ethereum, what do you think he would say ?

Keep watching
For now at least and see how developers decide to participate in the network.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum dump starts? on: August 08, 2015, 09:21:33 PM
It was an interesting chart on poloniex
Someone started the order history at 50 BTC for the daily high so it was a 99.99% loss when it started trading at a normal price.
273  Economy / Securities / Re: Anything sustainable worth of investing? on: August 08, 2015, 09:07:09 PM

But again, I am already into PoS, I would like to find something else new to test and I have already found a few very nice option which I will test this month. What else?

At the moment I'm curious on ethereum and whether it will have the growth to become a sustainable investment.
You get rewarded for people using your applications in Ethereum I believe and with the release of Frontier and trading starting on exchanges its on my radar for observation.
274  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 08, 2015, 08:58:13 PM

A brainwallet cracker, people will learn the hard way if their password is strong enough
It also will be a hobby for those who want to gamble for a large payday reward.

If anyone from the community wants to add anything, please do!

Just a bit curious if the Bitlicense in New York has any impact on Betmoose
Or if it doesn't affect US users.
276  Economy / Economics / Re: It's happening: Puerto Rico just defaulted for the first time on: August 06, 2015, 11:10:54 PM
http://money.cnn.com/2015/08/03/investing/puerto-rico-default/

Damn, I can't believe this is happening so close, it's unbeliable but it was unavoidable. 58 million of unplayable fee. I really hope these guys don't get all of their money stolen. Only if we were in 2025 they could have had a chance with Bitcoin we are still on the very early days.

I opened a thread amongst all the Greek havok about this default incoming
It was set to happen and given that most of the debt is American that was bound to happen.
Death spirals are really tough.

Puerto Rico is not Rico anymore
Rico means Rich

Now its Just Puerto ....
277  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin becomes 100% unregulated in Japan!!! on: August 06, 2015, 11:07:10 PM
http://www.coindesk.com/tokyo-court-bitcoin-not-subject-to-ownership-2/

Quote
Judge Masumi Kurachi ruled that, due to their intangible nature and reliance on third parties, bitcoins cannot be covered under existing law.

This is quite awesome. Set up exchanges, set up payment processors, set up whatever you want with Bitcoin in Japan. It is not covered under the law.

That is a strange ruling, the court must not have the laws and mechanisms to cover it
Off to the government it goes.
278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When bitcoin allows side chains would anyone still use an alt currency ? on: August 06, 2015, 10:33:11 PM
First mover advantage
In this case Ether would likely survive as its had the time to get a developing base
Other alt coins that come after and do side chains will likely not gain as much traction unless they have big capital to support it.
Bitcoin due to its position will still be able to enter fairly safely into side-chains if it's not done to late in the future and another group takes the dominant and solid position.
279  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece is going DOWN on: August 03, 2015, 08:29:24 PM

http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/ASE:IND

What the hell is happening in Greece? Havent Germany%France aided them?

Stocks Market is down %16.65 at the moment.

-%42.12 return in last 1 year.

A country is sinking down right before our eyes.

There is some blood being shed today in the markets
That said it was expected given that the market has finally had a chance to adjust itself.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33754005

The main Athens stock index, the Athex, ended the day down by 16.23% as trading resumed after a five-week closure.

The nation's top four lenders - Piraeus Bank, National Bank, Alpha Bank and Eurobank - fell the most, all down 30%, the maximum allowed. Banks make up about a fifth of the index.

Expect more bank pain tommorrow and also for people to realize the utility of a cash reserve if you want to take advantage of deals.

In accordance with conditions laid down by the government and the European Central Bank, local investors are not allowed to buy shares with money from their bank accounts, only with cash kept in safe deposit boxes or at home
280  Economy / Economics / Re: Price stability on: August 03, 2015, 08:05:49 PM
In the billions now and still not very stable.  Forex is a trillion dollar market and even that has been manipulated by traders.  I think wild swings will get less frequent as volume increases, but not disappear from the realm of possibility.

That sounds like an accurate assessment but it needs a caveat that wild swings will likely still exist due to trading maniuplation as the amount of interested parties increase.
It will be interesting since it opens up all the additional pairings of Altcoins that are based on Bitcoin to market trading and pairings which could cause random unpredictable spikes to Bitcoin itself in correlation to them.
