261  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between females and males, who are more resistant to gambling losses?  on: May 06, 2024, 05:05:23 PM
are the male gender, when a man becomes addicted to gambling, the guy starts spending all his salary, then goes into a lot of debt and then becomes a thief and consequently gets involved with drugs and dies or gets arrested for stealing or killing someone while robbed this person. while women, when they become addicted, spend their entire salary, go into a lot of debt and then start prostitution and get involved in drugs and die from drug overdoses. women hurt themselves more when they are addicted, while men hurt other people more when they are addicted
Women do not hurt themselves more if addicted to gambling. Let us say generally that gambling is not good for but men and women. Men are more prone to gamble and that makes men more prone to gambling addiction. But generally, gambling is not good. You can see men that committed suicide because of gambling addiction and you have seen men that they are more addicted. I will take men instead. Both men and women are hurting themselves if they are addicted to gambling addiction but men gamble more than women and that makes them more vulnerable to gambling addiction.
262  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you disguise on your real gambling lifestyle just to help a friend/relative? on: May 06, 2024, 03:24:54 PM
We are not a gambler if we do not experience negative traits, and we don't want to experience these negative traits, so it's just ok to share advice on these negative traits that your friends don't want to experience.

It's ok to be honest it's your friend and your friend or relative will be glad that you shared your experience so they will not get astray, sharing is caring especially for people you care for.
That is just it, it is good to be honest. One thing that the OP is experiencing that I noticed is that he is losing more than winning and that is enough to tell friends also to know that they should be careful while gambling and that they should have discipline for them not to lose too much while gambling. There should be no reason to lie and thinking you are helping when you are losing which is a lesson.
263  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin advertisements are a bit outdated on: May 06, 2024, 12:50:30 PM
I used to say "1 BTC = 1 BTC", until I realized that's like saying "1 USD = 1 USD", and it's not true. That's why USD-prices are usually related to a year: a dollar in 1960 was worth a lot more than a dollar now. And a Bitcoin in 2010 was worth a lot less than a Bitcoin now.
The only reason I told people that 1 BTC = 1 BTC is that bitcoin price do increase in price, and also that newbies believe that having bitcoin is like they are trading. I will differentiate between trading and holding bitcoin where there is no liquidation of asset. That 1 BTC is 1 BTC but the price will determine if they will gain it lose but no asset liquidation.

OP, I understand your plight but let us not be blinded by the love for Bitcoin. The advert may not go down well with you, but it's still cautious advice that is not peculiar to Bitcoin investment alone but all other investments as well, and above all, it doesn't hurt in a way.
This is not directly about investment, it more like bitcoin can collapse. It applies to investing it, trading it, using it for P2P transactions. It is about what ever you are using bitcoin for. That bitcoin is still experimental and should be used for the amount of money that you can afford to lose. Bitcoin security is far better than bank security. If something like this can be said to bitcoin, that means everything in life that men invested are still experimental because bitcoin has the highest security.
264  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin advertisements are a bit outdated on: May 05, 2024, 03:57:59 PM
Bitcoin is not an investment, it's a currency.
None is going to call USD or EURO is an investment.
The paper note of local currencies are called currency. Currency is the representation of money. Currency has no value but its representation has the value. Just like the paper has no value but the amount it represents is the values. Bitcoin is a currency because it has digital representation and that is why it is called a digital currency. Bitcoin is a currency.  But bitcoin is not just a currency but also an asset. Bitcoin is a commodity. Bitcoin is subject to volatile. The price of bitcoin increase over time and may later decrease. Bitcoin has been a hedge against inflation in long term. Some people and organizations like Microstrategy and retail investors are holding it and expect more adoption and more people to buy it for its amrketcap and its price to continue to increase just like gold. Because of this bitcoin is also an investment.
265  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin advertisements are a bit outdated on: May 05, 2024, 02:15:51 PM
Bitcoin Core disagrees with you:
Code:
This is experimental software

The warning not to put all your money into BTC is also still correct. Just like it applies to any other investment: diversification reduces the risk of huge losses.
Do not mind my little knowledge about this, but I think people can run full node even without Bitcoin Core? There are other full node wallets. Is that warning not pertaining to Bitcoin Core but to bitcoin generally? All other nodes and miners still kind of depending on Bitcoin Core to run full node?

With how bitcoin is today, it is better than the software the banks are using in term of security of your coins. I think bitcoin developers just leave it for investment advice.
266  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin advertisements are a bit outdated on: May 05, 2024, 01:08:46 PM
I agree with this, it should be removed. Bitcoin is not a beta software anymore. This is not 2009, 2010 or earlier when bitcoin was created.

It's true that bitcoin is still in beta and still in development phase, regardless the years had pass since it was released.
No.

Note: This thread is self-moderated to prevent it from being derailed. Please, keep the discussion on Lightning implementations and your experience of running a node. Any related questions are welcome.

I have been running my current c-lightning node for over 4 months now so I would like to share some data with you. I would appreciate if other node operators could share their experience, thoughts and anything else like plugins, fee strategy, third-party software.

My node's URI is 0273da0a525390c36857841e208f1d289275c76ebfa7ecfde697c6cbf4f235b4f5@fjpmf23cd2c6sqp7e4wzexa6ixkttl3jabivldakwq733tw634ymjbid.onion:9735

My node has successfully routed 143 payments (until the 31st October) with ~0.09 BTC capacity and 5 active channels. Here's a breakdown of my earnings from payment routing into each month:

July: 539.54 sat/17 forwards

August: 114.64 sat/34 forwards

September: 161.75 sat/28 forwards

October: 75.56 sat/64 forwards

The largest payment I have ever routed was 960,320 satoshi and I got paid 77.825 satoshi for it. The highest fee I have ever charged was 91.476 satoshi for a 952,385 satoshi payment. 23 forwards were free of charge. As you can see, I made the highest profit in July. That's probably because I was adjusting my fee policy for each channel manually every few days unlike the other months - I adjusted my fee policy only at the beginning and at the end of each month. I haven't used any fee auto-adjusting plugins yet.

While it's true that earnings from my Lightning node do not cover the electricity cost of my server (which I also use for other projects anyway), I have already earned back the fees I paid to open my channels. Note that some of my channels were not opened by me which means that I did not have to pay anything for them. Also, I saved some money by opening more than one channel in a single transaction and opening dual-funded channels so that I would not have to worry about using paid third-party services to balance my channels.

You might be surprised by the number of failed forwards - 389 payments. Why are there so many of them? More than 95% of them failed at some further point in the route. It's difficult to tell how many of them were legitimate payments and not channel/route probing attempts. I used some website a couple of time to probe routes from/to my node and each time I would get another three failed payments.

To understand have the basic understanding about lightning network
I posted it here to fix the invalid image

Introduction
Lightning Network or shortly LN is an emerging feature which can drastically change the picture of bitcoin adoption solving the problem of the higher fee for micro payments and slower confirmation issue. Although still it's not implemented in most of the wallets, we can expect it to be soon.

Table of Contents
1. What is Lightning Network?
2. How LN works?
  (i) Channel
  (ii) Route
3. A Real Life Explanation
4. Advantages of LN
5. Will it increase massive adoption?

1. What is Lightning Network?
Lightning Network is a feature which will allow you to transact bitcoin outside the Bitcoin Main Chain. It's a protocol on bitcoin blockchain. You will be able to send, receive bitcoin with lower fees, any amount(see the first reply from BitCryptex), faster than ever. It will basically help you to send & receive micro-payments.
Imagine, you have visited Alice's Coffee Shop, had a coffee for $2. Paying $2 with bitcoin is still possible but for $2, you may have to pay more fees sometimes, moreover, Alice will not agree to have confirmation of the transaction after 3/4 hours of your leaving the shop.

Two problems we see when you want to pay $2 for a coffee.
- You will not be happy to pay $1 fee for spending $2 worth of BTC.
- Alice will not accept BTC because it requires much time to get confirmed.

But, now with Lightning Network, you don't have to pay a huge fee for spending $2 worth of BTC, nor Alice will have to think about the slower transaction.

2. How LN works?
In Lightning Network, you have to create a channel with the other party. In the channel, you will be able to transact bitcoin frequently with low fee, faster and any amount.
Creating a channel means having an agreement with the other party. In other word, you and the other party will have a multisig wallet where you both will be able to transact bitcoin frequently. For your info, when you are entering into a channel, you have to pay a fee. It's same sending a transaction. After entering into the channel, whatever you transact, these log will not be updated into the blockchain. You you close the channel or leave from a channel, another transaction will be logged into the blockchain. In between entering a channel & closing a channel, all the transaction will be happened outside the bitcoin main chain and it's called settlement. Only your balance will be updated time to time but no main chain transaction will happen.

Two LN terms you must know-
(i) Channel- Channel are the place where all the Lightning Network transaction of you and your other party will be taken place and logged in. It allows you to send & receive transaction in the Lighting Network.
(ii) Route- This can be called as a bridge between you and Alice Coffee shop. Assume, you are visiting 10 shops daily and want to pay with Bitcoin Lightning Network. Creating 10 channels with 10 shops for paying them is a big hassle and costly, and imagine, how much channel shops have to create since they are handling a thousands of customers. With Route, you may create only one channel and have able to pay in all the shops.

3. A Real Life Explanation

Imagine, you visit 3 shops per week on average for purchasing your daily life stuffs; A, B, C

The shopkeeper accept Lightning Network payment. But, as like I mentioned above in Route, they certainly will not create thousands of channel. It will create more hassle for them. They will want to create channel with a Lightning Network Node where most of their customers have already created channels. This way, the Lightning Node will act as a bridge between the shopkeeper and the customer. The below picture may help you understand the process-

/center]

Bob= You
Route= Node with whom both you & the shop will create channel.

You or the other customers will create a channel with the Node, Shops will also create channel with the Node, that's how Node is creating bridge between customers and the shops.

Assume, you have created a channel and funded your address with 0.01 BTC. The initial funding will require transaction fee.
Now, you have purchased coffee 10 times from Alice's restaurant, you will be able to pay from 0.01 BTC, this will not require any transaction fee but your Lightning Node (I mean The Route/The Bridge) will charge a very low fee. Assume, each coffee is priced BTC 0.0003, you are paying 0.003 BTC.
Your balance is 0.007 (Will be low since you are paying a little fee). Now, you decided to close the channel for some reason. A transaction fee will be required.

Therefore, you are paying 2 transaction fee while you have transacted 12 times including the purchasing of coffee 10 times.

4. Advantages of LN
a. Easy Micro payments
b. Faster transaction, no confirmation needed.
c. Lower fees.

5. Will it increase massive adoption?
Till now, without Lightning Network, paying with bitcoin is very expensive sometimes when we compare paying $1/$2 for something. Also, with lower fee a transaction may stuck on the chain for a long time and get rejected after some times. Since Lightning Network is assuring instant transaction, very low fee transaction and easy micropayments, we can expect merchant will accept it more often than previous. More people will now feel comfortable paying with bitcoin for a lower amount. This is not guaranteed but a expectation since LN is reducing the resistance of bitcoin as a micro payment method.

Miscellaneous
1. I never used Lightning Network.
2. I am not a pro.
3. This guideline will act as very basic level of explanation for the beginners.
269  Other / Meta / Re: Locked threads on reputation board on: May 04, 2024, 06:16:32 AM
When I saw two of the topics, I made similar suggestion recently. You can see it on this link

Topics on reputation board should not have lock feature

It is called reputation, threads on the board should not have lock feature at all. Self-moderation also supposed not to be there as people said. It is about reputation and those features supposed to be removed.
270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ZKSNACKS IS DISCONTINUING ITS COINJOIN COORDINATION SERVICE 1ST OF JUNE on: May 03, 2024, 04:06:40 PM
Wasabi tried their best and even went towards the Chainanalysis which makes the wallet not to become reputable on this forum. But United States is trying to take down everything that is about privacy for bitcoin. At least the wallet will become reputable again on this forum on June first by not having conjoin.
271  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Buy a Bonus VS playing Slot on normal Spin - which do you prefer? on: May 03, 2024, 09:30:48 AM
There is no guarantee obviously, buying bonus can be very crazy when you are out of luck. I have experienced few times when I got losing streak while using bonus buy. If I remember it correctly, there was a time when I did not even make profit after doing more than 10 buy bonus continuously. On the other opportunity, few bonus buy can give consecutive nice wins, so it depends on luck, no doubt about it. If you dont like it and if you are not sure to do it, better to stay as what you used to do with normal spins.
I have tried buy bonus two times before and I lost both. What I noticed was that my losses was very fast. I have heard that it can increase the chance that I can win but it only increased the chance of me losing. I do not use it again. I prefer not to buy bonus but  be using the normal way to gamble. One thing a gambler needs to know is that they should not be greedy and lured into anything by gambling sites. Gambling sites will bring something alluring but they are always earning from people while people lose to them.
272  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Developing Winning Crypto Betting Strategies on: May 03, 2024, 09:20:54 AM
If you are betting in an online cryptocurrency website, you should know the basics of how Blockchain works. When there are high transaction fees, through your knowledge of the Blockchain you will already understand what happened and and to take the appropriate action. And one of such is the use of an altcoin for funding your wallet rather than Bitcoin to save yourself from high fees. You will understand when what happens when there is a delay in your funds reaching your wallet.
This is right but it will be good if more gambling sites can support lightning network. Bitcoin lightning payment is cheap and fast. I have wanted to use lightning network on many gambling sites but I was unable because only very few are supporting lightning network as of now. Altcoins are still what can be used for fast and cheap transactions. Some people will prefer stable coins as they are pegged to dollar price.
273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which device do you prefer for gambling ? on: May 03, 2024, 06:41:37 AM
The last time I remember when I was using my phone was with the fiat sportsbook. Ever since I am in crypto I always use the laptop and also use the VPN. In crypto my privacy is important so no clean internet, and mobile device. I think mobile devices are easy to expose your IP.
If you are using Linux, that is better. But if you are using Windows or macOS, they will invade your privacy just as much as Android. There are some phone OS that are open source which can also be used. People that wants privacy can use either phone or computer but they have to know what they are doing. VPN can also be installed on phones.
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Buy a Bonus VS playing Slot on normal Spin - which do you prefer? on: May 02, 2024, 12:24:57 PM
I don't buy a bonus spin. For me, it's too expensive. Worst, it can be addictive.
What I see as the worst of it is that the gambling sites have house edge in one way or the other. If you use bonus buy or playing without using bonus buy, it is most likely that your money is going to those gambling sites. Gambling is just for fun and not should be seen as a way to make money. If a gambler is having money that he can afford to lose for bonus buy, he can go for it. I am not using bonus buy and I gamble just with little amount of money.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: 1xbit violated self exclusion terms, do not want to help on: May 02, 2024, 11:13:20 AM
Maybe when you experience winning at 1xBit, you don't think about such things. Then you just did something like that, so your refund request is far from giving you 1xbit on that issue.
Some people will not make enough findings before using a gambling site. If the OP has research about 1xbit just in this forum alone, he will see their official accounts and representatives tagged red. He will also see any person that participate in the campaign the gambling site have on this forum tagged red. He supposed not to use the gambling site at all when there are numerous good gambling sites on this forum with good reputation.
276  Other / Off-topic / Re: There are dangers from streaming matches from unofficial sites on: May 02, 2024, 09:22:53 AM
It is true that Google, Twitter and other legal online sites also harbour scammers and hackers however, you know that they have a communication channel for reporting these types of scams and hacks. Even if nothing seems to be done immediately, at least users has found some kind of closure. This is unlike the illegal streaming services where is no channel for reporting these hacks or scams. Victims of hacks or scams are basically on their own.

I will not also encourage anyone to do it. But if you know how to avoid scam and malware, there is no problem.

Do not be on the side of those Google and Twitter and other likes them. Scam of highest magnitudes are existing there. The more problem is that many people will think they are legal and be clicking and accessing everything Google is suggesting them. That is why Google is the number one among the sites that people got a link to scammers and get scammed.

The scam through Google is more than the scam through the streaming sites. All should be avoided or do it in a way you can avoid scam.
277  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can You Submit KYC Before You Win Big on: May 02, 2024, 08:51:15 AM
Check the site history and reputation. Look online for his bad reputation in the past to know them. From there you will know if the site is trustworthy to use or not. If it gambling site is trustworthy to use, you can either provide your KYC documents or not depending on how you want it. But make sure you have only one account and not doing any manipulation. Also make sure that the gambling site is not restricted for people in your country but legal.
278  Other / Off-topic / Re: There are dangers from streaming matches from unofficial sites on: May 02, 2024, 08:35:30 AM
Any illegal services offered online no matter how relatively inexpensive their service fees charge may seem compared to the legal alternatives is a breeding ground for scammers, hackers and the bad eggs on the internet. In my country we would always say, "penny wise, pound foolish" and in this context, it means that if you avoid paying fees and opt to use illegal streaming services, when you eventually get hacked, you will lose your money, documents or very sensitive information stored on your device. The cost fixing the damage caused by the hack will exceed more than you would have spent on paying on a legal and authorized streaming platforms.
This thread is educative but I do not like how it is only directed to just illegal steaming. What about Google, Twitter now called X and other legal online sites like that?

Check this report and you will be surprised: Scam Sniffer 2023: Crypto Phishing Scams Drain $300 Million from 320,000 Users

You will see Google and Twitter to be the leader of those that make scammers get to their users and the government are doing nothing about it.
279  Economy / Gambling / Re: BC.Game asking for KYC before letting me Withdraw on: May 02, 2024, 08:24:03 AM
Just something to note and could be completely coincidental, although would be very strange. Can’t get my KYC figured out but they are certainly accepting my wagers and also, my sports betting limits were raised as well. Just stuff I find interesting. Meanwhile no one in support can tell me why my KYC is not being verified. Besides telling me they reset it for the 5th time to try again.
You mean Bc.game has not get in touch with you? Which means they are still reviewing your account. I do not know it can take this long. But once they have not contacted you saying you violated their ToS, still be waiting for them. You can also send their customer care another message.
280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can You Submit KYC Before You Win Big on: May 01, 2024, 06:47:34 PM
if it is not mandatory then they will not even ask you as long as you are a fair player, even if you win.
It is better to read the terms and conditions very well because you can see on some casinos that KYC is not mandatory but if you check their terms and conditions, you will see that they have withdrawal limit to which there is not KYC. If the withdrawal limit is exceeded, KYC will be requested for. Also a gambling should be expecting the casinos to ask for KYC at anytime, regardless of being a fair player or not.
