261  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 27, 2015, 06:48:03 AM
Hmmm , seems like a dead thread....  Huh ...since the S5's came out.

I'll post how I got my S2 to rotate through the pools just in case someone else is also finding a creative way to power these S2's and have them remain profitable.

The standard residential electricity rate here is $0.13/kwh. To save money on electric, I'm using my electric Co's ~Time of Use~ plan. From 8am to 8pm, my electricity is $0.17/kwh - I don't mine then and really nothing is running in the house in the time period so it really does not matter. But, from 8pm to 8am, my electricity is a measily $0.05/kwh. Mining is profitable with that rate. The weekend is a little different - at 8pm Friday, the rate goes to $0.05 and stays there till 8am Monday. At $0.05/kwh and this BTC slump we endured, I was profitable all the way down with the exception to the very very bottom end of that exchange value slump where for a brief moment, I went RED.

My miners are set up on 240VAC, using Allen Bradley industrial controls, relays, contactors, terminal blocks etc, all that I found at auctions, flea markets and yard sales, the miners turn on automatically at 8PM and turn off at 8AM. All of this is in a NEMA enclosure and using current NEC code for the construction. (If the house burns down, they cannot point to my miner control panel because its built to 2014 NEC code ). I have a revision I need to install though. I'm finding that when the system turns on, the inrush of current must create a small brownout because occasionally one miner will not fully turn on and mine, it will just sit there, blank LCD and a red light till I unplug and re-plug. My revision is to add individual timers and relays for each miner. So, 8pm comes along, the scheduling timer energizes the mains contactor and one miner powers on, 2 seconds later the timer energizes a relay and another miner comes on, 2 seconds after that, another timer and relay etc etc. That will eliminate the inrush current brownout.

I guess I'm telling this because there is a slew of cheap azz equipment that could still be used for profit mining if your electric company has something similar to We Energies Time of Use rates.

So I have 12hrs of mining to play with and several different coins I'd like to mine. Having the S2 miners automatically rotate through the pools makes this somewhat complicated electricity/profitability situation into mostly unattended mining.

This is how I  got my Antminer S2's to play nice with the ROTATE command in cgminer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~~~~~SSH into your S2, I use Putty, but that is my preference, use whatever you like....
user - root
password - admin
cd /config
vi cgminer.conf
~~~~~press the letter I to edit the text and use the arrows to move around

~~~~~add a COMMA at the end of the last command line like so:
"bitmain-voltage" : "0750",
~~~~~I have my S2's running at 200mhz, I found that increasing the voltage a little stabilizes the HW errors a bit.

~~~~~Now add the following line:
"rotate" : "xxx"
~~~~~ replace the xxx with how many minutes you want to mine on each pool

~~~~~press Esc
~~~~~press :

~~~~~enter the letters wq
~~~~~press the ENTER key

DONE! - well, almost.

You will notice that in the miners GUI - the Miner Configuration tab, everything went blank. That's ok.

!!! DO NOT HIT THE ~SAVE AND APPLY~ BUTTON !!!

You must do a SYSTEM RESET.... found in the SYSTEM tab.

Once your system resets, you will see that the Miner Configuration tab is back to having its data in the blocks.
If you want to see the ROTATE command working as a test, set the command as "rotate" : "5" then do the Esc : wq followed by the system reset. Then watch the Miner Status tab, the mining will switch pools every 5 minutes, you'll see the information changing on the different pools.

Don't forget to go back into cgminer.conf and edit the rotate command to the operational time you want.

Just for info, I have 3 pools entered, I have rotate set for 240 minutes.... every 240 minutes, the system switches pools, and by the time 8am rolls along, I have cycled through all 3 of the pools.

:-)

I don't know if this has been asked and solved - the search function in this forum is disabled at the moment....

I would like to have my S2's rotate through my list of 3 pools (3 different coins )....

SSHing into the S2, I tried adding ~~ "rotate" : "360" ~~  into the cgminer.conf file, but I cannot seem to get it to work. Depending on how I insert the command, after editing the cgminer.conf file, all the pool data in the MINER CONFIGURATION tab goes blank and has an unresponsive save button or after resetting cgminer, the cgminer.conf file reverts back to what it was before my edit.

Has anyone figured out a way to change the mining strategy on an S2?

Thanks

I believe the only people holding XPY coins are GAW itself and those who bought XPY with fiat and are hoping and wishing the exchange rate will increase to the point that they'll break even. Who knows ... maybe Josh will smoke a big bowl of crack and dump millions into XPY and make that $20-$25 floor and the non-GAW people will actually get their chance to get out without loosing much.

Those of us who mined XPY, I think most of us cashed out and payed for our electric used and a little more.

I know I cashed out and paid for my electricity used... I was thinking of cashing out when the first stink whiffed through the air, I would have made a profit then, but I stuck onto XPY, letting it play out a bit more. But when the stink got worse than my cats food, It was time.

At this point. I think Josh's best move, to save face, and to save millions in $$$ (by not dumping cash into the XPY market to make the floor ) and to possibly avoid any criminal investigation, would be to shut down paycoin, then refund anyone who used fiat currency to buy XPY, purchasing it from the actual paycoin website. A direct sale of XPY, then not following through with what was advertised, that is the liability he faces. To mitigate that liability, a timely refund to those who used the direct purchase should be made.

If anyone bought XPY with fiat through an exchange, I'm not sure of the legal obligations or consequences that he would have. IE, Would Josh need to refund people if they purchased XPY on a third party site?

The sooner he realizes paycoin was fundamentally flawed from the start and will either cost him millions of dollars when everyone cashes out at the floor he advertised, or cost him millions of dollars in criminal penalties if he does nothing, the sooner he has that revelation, the better. A refund action for those who purchased direct will help him if a criminal case is brought forward by those who used an exchange with fiat to purchase XPY.

Josh would be absolutely stupid to dump money into XPY to create the $20 or $25 floor ( which is it? ) ... if he did that, everyone would dump their coins and take Joshes money leaving the only coins being held by GAW themselves rendering XPY worthless. I'm sure he knows this; I don't think Josh is that stupid, I could be wrong though.

I think the floor is pretty much what XPY has leveled off at...  ~0.03btc

Well, just sold the XPY I had and deleted the wallet. I think I broke even with the electricity I used to mine.

No need for me to be ~here~ any more

< tosses a gernade > .......... bag out!

Hundred bucks says you and waffle come back. They always do. They SAY they're going to leave, but they come back.

Oh, I'll come back ... but not for this ?coin?. I mine coins, I don't buy coins with cash.... if some time in the future another coin interests me ... I'll probably join in the mining and discussion.

reading, reading and reading some more... then noticing the XPY price dropping. Yeah, I think its time for me to dump and run away fast. The ick factor of this ?coin? is growing like black mold and the toxic effects of XPY loosing value is only going to continue....

Concur.  Ick factor.

I can't put my finger on it - I just think it's all the terms like - hashlet, hashstaker, primecontrollers etc., that make this coin look/feel like the Scientology of crypto-currencies to me.

You ever see one of their YouTube vids?  It's like - what are these people talking about?  Do they even know?

Z

There's too much going on here, price still dropping on Cryptsy

some one cue the MP3 whistle of a WWII bomb dropping from 12000ft ..........

Are you saying something is wrong with the "Hamburgerz" Homero is delivering?

Looks fine to me...

Umm ... That looks about normal for those Mc burger flippers who want $15 an hour

Picture this.......  a dark, abandoned military installation basement, a stagnant water layer on the floor, its cold, its very humid, the air smells like the last fresh air piped in was from 1960, the asbestos coating on the pipes flaking off and falling like snow in the breeze you make when walking by, the once light yellow-green walls are now covered in this black mold called XPY ... not even spiders have made a home in that basement.

You start to get an itch in your throat, you gag, you start coughing, you start getting claustrophobic in the darkness, then you start thinking of reasons why there is absolutely no forms of life in that basement, no mice, no spiders ..... you then get the mad urge to get the hell out of that basement.

Well, if it is a scam ... I'm just out a few days of mining electricity.

Rule #1 in my online life .... Never spend something of REAL value (cash, silver, gold) for something of VIRTUAL value.  ( IE: I don't spend cash on game credits, cloud mining, online subscriptions... or crypto-coins)

Ok, I installed the wallet, and transferred my coins from the pool ......

now what? How do I do this PoS thing?
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAW-Miners][XPY] Paycoin ( 40 Phash ) on: December 21, 2014, 05:59:01 PM
So with this XPY, the PoW is like the beta phase to see if things are working right?  Then it switches to PoS for the operational phase?

I also put off setting up a wallet, call it "lazy", call it "Lets see how this mines first then set up the cold storage wallet", I just put it off ... now, I'm trying to find where I can download it for linux.... nothing but dead links and dead buttons.  I also read that the XPY github folders are now private.

Any idea where I can get the wallet while waiting for XPY to go to PoS?

Thanks

I'm not understanding something here....

I started mining earlier this year starting with Bitcoin and Litecoin and have pretty much stuck with them.

I started mining XPY just a few days ago ( I was not paying attention when it launched )

Last night I noticed minerpools.com , where I was mining, stopped mining. So this morning I looked again, still stopped. So I did some googling and found that the PoW has ended.

What is that? PoW? Is that the end of the coin mining? Is XPY being mined in "sections"? ... basically ... WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

As I have mentioned, I have only really been mining 2 ongoing major coins and have no real experience outside of those.

Thanks

your computer doesn't have curses devel - configure said that at the end when you ran it.

Kano --- RIGHT ON THE MONEY !!!

I must have missed it when copy n pasting the commands.

NOW... its working  Grin

Thank you

anything special I need to do to compile cgminer to work with btcgarden asics?

Spiceminer15 --- If you are referring to the 8ghs blades... those are GETWORK only, they don't do STRATUM.

However ....

you can use Slush's Stratum mining proxy, it works great for the old GETWORK stuff.

https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy

As for mining software, none needed. Its has it own internal firmware that you configure via its IP address and I think you also have to include the port ... like 10.10.10.2:10000 (10000 was the default port) .... There is an important catch though.

The blades need to have access to the internet, NOT JUST YOUR NETWORK, it needs the internet for some unknown reason for you to enter the blade config page. Sooo, if your blades have a different IP address range than your network with internet, Say your network with internet is on 192.168.1.x, and the blades are set up for a 10.10.10.x network, you'll need to set up a separate router with 10.10.10.1 as its address, ( this is just for changing the IP address to what you want it to be) then connect the miner to the router, and then the router to your network with the internet access. THEN -- you can access the configure page and set the miner IP addresses for each of the miners -SEPARATELY- so you can access them from your normal internet accessible network.

DO NOT GET PUNCHY ... don't rush the settings. just because it says configuring on the screen, does not mean it has been already flashed... they are abit slow. I bricked 2 of the blades by being a little quick to close the page or reset the power etc.

Maybe this problem has been mentioned before, if it has, please point me to the solution-- I have no idea what to call this problem.

----------------

CGMINER is running and its hashing right along, BUT, I have ~ONLY~ text when something is accepted, there is a new block, etc and the 5s, avg, A, R, HW and WU line.

CGMINER is NOT showing the normal top of the window output... the miners, their individual outputs, pool info etc... the info that NORMALLY stay at the top of the terminal window while the accepted, new block and other info scroll below it.

I also do not have access to any of the menus, like (s)etup (d)isplay etc .. I press S or whatever and it just types an S in the terminal, no menu.

I've installed and re-installed CGMINER a few times, I've used the latest version of CGMINER even with this problem to mine SHA-256 as well as now, using 3.7.2 - GC3355 for scrypt mining using Gridseeds, still the same problem....

What am I doing wrong in installation? How to fix it so I can see what is going on with each miner etc?

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64-bit desktop
on a Dell PE850 server with 4gb ram
CGMINER v.3.7.3-GC3355

Thanks
