261  Economy / Lending / Re: [WANTED] Secured Loan for Apartment Deposit on: March 18, 2012, 06:13:08 PM
  • 2000BTC (12 month) plan - $10,000USD borrowed, $833 USD (principle) + $167 (interest) paid monthly.
  • 3000BTC (18 month) plan - $15,000USD borrowed, $833 USD (principle) + $167 (interest) paid monthly.
  • 4000BTC (24 month) plan - $20,000USD borrowed, $833 USD (principle) + $167 (interest) paid monthly.

The plans I wrote above are roughly  20% interest.

True, and it's not a bad interest rate in "real-world" terms, since the loan is denominated in USD. With the plan outlined above, however, there is no incentive for any lender to go above 2000. For 4000, a lender gets 20% return over two years, and for 2000 the lender gets the same percentage over one year.

Are you sure the costs to incentivizing a loan won't end up exceeding the actual rent you'd be paying without the deposit. As far as lenders here are concerned, currency risk is eliminated (assuming people want USD) by the loan being denominated in USD, but counterparty risk (I don't think you're dishonest, but we don't know how solvent you are, etc.) is still present. Your landlord, on the other hand, has your identity and the full power of Korean law to go after you if something goes wrong, so the risk is actually lower for him/her. Assuming other things equal, that would lead to lower costs for you if you figured something out with the landlord.

Of course, this is all making a lot of assumptions. But naively, I'm not convinced it's in your best interest to take a loan from us, unless it's partially intended as a bitcoin experiment for its own sake.

Edit: also, who would lend to a horse?
262  Economy / Services / Re: OFFICIAL launch www.bitcoinportail.com on: March 18, 2012, 05:12:58 PM
WTF!..

Switch to chrome to prevent that auto-shit from happening.

Or install Addon NoScript and/or disable the Java Plugin Smiley

But OP really should make this optional, like with a checkbox that has to be ticked or something.

Taking advantage of its customers with a secret java miner applet puts this site on my shitlist. Also, the buy links are broken and the list of products is a word document. This site looks like it was thrown together in about three minutes, with about two of them dedicated to embedding the java miner.

"you can be pretty sure a lot of leveraged positions (in both directions) are going to get fucked hard."

What if not enough. ask yourself would you pay 50k$-60k$-150k$ for this mistake ?
I dont think so. you would never do it until you get some insider Information.

It wasn't just about you.
264  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinica's fraud actions on: March 17, 2012, 07:19:13 AM
it seems bitcoinica website has malfunctioned, clearly malfunctioned, in the past and there are valid concerns out there.
i am just do not think the OPs is one of them. he had a chance to make a nice profit but he made the position public
and there are people here on this forum who have enough cash to buy a lot of btc to have messed with him.

Bitcoinica doesn't hedge 100% possitions. This action is loss. You cant predict how much bitcoinica will hedge, if you are not bitcoinica/ friends/stuff

Someone had enough money to move all of mtgox by $2 within a short time window around that period. You can't predict how much bitcoinica hedges, but if you move the mtgox price by $2 (up and down), you can be pretty sure a lot of leveraged positions (in both directions) are going to get fucked hard.
265  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinica's fraud actions on: March 17, 2012, 06:38:07 AM
by now I have 6 customers who are dissatisfied with bitcoinica.
And don't forget, this forum is not bitcoin, this is not anonymous, dont be stupid, think before write.

Nice! resorting to implied legal threats against us for mocking you?

It's not illegal for us to disagree with you, and I don't care if you know my identity or not. I don't care how many people you have lined up who dislike bitcoinica; some may have legitimate concerns, but the arguments you've given so far do not indicate that you do.

As far as I'm concerned, you're someone who did something stupid, got burned for it, and are now trying to compensate for your stupidity by suing someone who you are unable to prove did anything wrong. People were remarking on how stupid it was before you got screwed, and people laughed at you after it happened. I'm sorry you lost money, but if you play in a high-risk environment, you have to be prepared for losses.
266  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinica's fraud actions on: March 17, 2012, 05:34:47 AM
If your proof for the criminal case is anything like your arguments on the forum, we're in for a good laugh.
267  Economy / Services / Re: Hotel/Flight Reservations for Bitcoin! 20% Off Over 100 Hotels | Stay Anonymous on: March 16, 2012, 08:09:09 PM
Wow, well if this isn't just a limited-time thing, I'm certainly going to get in touch with you at some point, next time I need to travel. Thanks!
268  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: First Pirate Savings and Trust on: March 16, 2012, 08:06:17 PM
If a current 'Pirate Lender' who is in good status, makes a referral and the referred lender turns out to be less than favourable, is the original lender (who gave the referral) held responsible ?

On the other hand, how can a lender possibly be considered "less than favorable"? The only offense I can imagine here is frequent deposit and withdrawal, for which pirate already somewhat compensates for with different interest rates for varying deposit amounts.

Once you're in the inner circle of lenders, as I am, you get access to the StonePirate secret society, which has lodges in 759 cities worldwide and gives you powerful connections in very high places. Also, you get priority checkout at Walmart. The secret is too powerful to entrust to just anyone. And have I told you about Pirate's sister?
269  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: First Pirate Savings and Trust on: March 16, 2012, 07:51:32 PM
Hey,

Im hoping someone can refer me to pirateat40 so I can open a savings account. Some Information for you.

Please don't ask for referrals in the thread.

Quick question.....

If a current 'Pirate Lender' who is in good status, makes a referral and the referred lender turns out to be less than favourable, is the original lender (who gave the referral) held responsible ?

I would consider that a resounding YES. But alas, this is not my deal.

Why would you consider referring someone who you think could potentially make you look bad?

Perhaps some people are being offered money by strangers for referrals? Only answer I can think of, anyway.
270  Economy / Services / Re: Hotel Reservations for Bitcoin! 20% Off Over 100 Hotels | Stay Anonymous on: March 16, 2012, 07:44:20 PM
This looks great, thanks! I don't need anything right now but I'm bookmarking this page. Do you do flights, as well? Smiley
271  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Shakaru debt on: March 16, 2012, 07:36:05 PM
Debt is for people that shouldn't be messing with bitcoins..... I don't want to be famous here so I don't think I'll expand on why or argue why- people with knowledge will know why along with reasons not mattering at all in any case. Enjoy fapping/speculating folks. (has overused the word 'why' in this topic)

wat.
272  Other / Archival / Re: Classfy - The simple, Free and Open marketplace on: March 16, 2012, 04:04:43 PM
Looks nice, thanks! Amusing to find someone selling a cleveland steamer on there, though.
273  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Shakaru debt on: March 16, 2012, 04:01:36 PM
I'll buy it from you for the BTC equivalent of $625

Someone wants me to tell you that you're insane.

Okay, sure, but ... why exactly ?

It was just a joke Smiley I just think nobody was expecting anyone to pay that much for Shakaru's debt, is all.
274  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Shakaru debt on: March 16, 2012, 03:56:47 PM
Shakaru biggest problem IMHO is that he was a nice guy who was totally out of his league.

I'm not sure that's an accurate picture to paint, either. If you look back at the beginning of the Shades Minoco thread (and others, before the shit hit the fan), he was acting fairly arrogantly towards prospective investors.
275  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Shakaru debt on: March 16, 2012, 03:55:25 PM
I now fully believe that you do indeed work for the finance industry.

You guys have been making lots of friends in recent years.
Does anyone still invite you to their houses ?

"Making the world a better place, one dollar at a time" Smiley

That was uncalled-for. Why does shit devolve into personal insults so quickly on these forums?
276  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Shakaru debt on: March 16, 2012, 03:35:56 PM
Of course, Shakaru should have to give consent. We'll see about that offer...

I don't see why he should have to consent to it, at all. As far as he's concerned, if the debt gets sold, he owes the same amount of money to a different person.

That is a point of view ... mine is that getting everyone to agree on the deal is
probably a lot better for everyone's general happiness in the long run.

Certainly having his consent won't hurt general satisfaction, and it's nice of you to wait for it, but even if he was vehemently against the deal, he shouldn't have a say in it.

Are we not allowed to be involved in credit markets? Smiley
280  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt Gox Insider trading? on: March 15, 2012, 07:38:09 PM
we don't know what the numbers represent.  its not a full accounting disclosure, so i don't think we can't draw any profitability information from what they have supplied.  we can draw the conclusions they are obviously trying to have drawn, but they mean nothing.

and the idea that 52k bitcoin a year is not easily liquidated is in my opinion, extremely incorrect.  you don't think they could move 1k bitcoin a week with ease?  seriously?  1k a day would still be easily exchanged to fiat.

You're right; it is hard to draw profitability conclusions, but for now it'd appear that they aren't raking in huge amounts of cash, which would suggest that for any future expansion of the business, they'd need external investors.

Regarding getting rid of the bitcoins, I don't doubt that it can be done, but it'd be questionable for them to trade on their own exchange, and doing large OTC transactions is possible, but you're less likely to get a good rate for them.
