So I bring the remaining two Singles from this week's shipment of three online yesterday evening and leave them mining overnight. Guess what. One of their "Made in China" power supplies died overnight, green LED off. ![Cry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cry.gif) I'm not even going to send it back for an exchange - I'm just going to cut off its 12V cable and attach it to a industrial-grade (Vicor Power) 12V supply. Inspector, we can send you a replacement power supply straight away. No need to send yours back. Just contact office @ butterflylabs.com. Also, don't worry about having fried your unit, they're designed to protect themselves. BFL I don't want a replacement. I have a bunch of professional Vicor Power 12V bricks, most of them 300W (good for 3 Singles, each) and one 600W (good for 7 Singles) and they are really efficient. Btw., I measured the no-load voltage on one of the working BFL power bricks, and it was over 20V, which is a sign of a really cheap power supply, which I wouldn't want to use for anything at all. Just to let you know.

I now think the BFL chip is either: - A custom-designed "super" FPGA, whose functional units have a bigger granularity than standard Xilinx/Altera FPGAs. Instead of "1 bit adder" think "8 bit adder". or - An array processor, for instance 32x32 (just making this up) 32-bit mini-CPUs.
According to their own words, they stumbled into Bitcoin mining, their original idea was supercomputing / cryptography applications.
In other words, I think they built an ASIC first and then stumbled into Bitcoin mining as their first volume application.

I upgraded. Now it seems the display is not working correctly. In the previous version 2.3.1 all my singles showed up in a row with all their stats except the temp. Now all that is gone and only shares submitted are getting displayed. The top bar with the total stats are still there, just not the individual ones.
Wait, am I missing something? Are you running all singles under one instance? Currently I'm running one instance per unit in order to allow correct worker reporting to the pool. Can you do that under a single instance? I run two Singles against one mining location. I think this is the intended operation mode of CGminer. This way, it lists all your mining assets in a neat table and all mining assets contribute to the mining location specified.

... Which actually did happen to me in Palo Alto half a year ago, and this fact (and the unbearable heat) is the reason why I'm gradually shifting over to ASICs/FPGAs.
That ASIC shift must be VERY gradual ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Well, when I started ordering my BFL Singles, the order page said "delivery in 4 to 6 weeks"... ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) So, if the shift is very gradual (and it is), that's 100% BFL's fault. At least the product is well-engineered - CGMINER reads 64-64 degrees Celsius from the 1-fan Single and 59-60 degrees Celsius from the 2-fan Single. Neither has a blinking front LED. Tomorrow I will hook up a third one, and take one GPU down in exchange. On Friday I will hook up the fourth one, and take a whole GPU rig down. Ok, I'm curious. I have cgminer 2.3.1 going with my singles. I do not see any information about temp like I do with GPU's. Is there a setting I am missing? I think you need to upgrade to version 2.3.2 or 2.3.3. 2.3.3 works for me.

I was referring to the term "ASIC" - nothing is even available in that area yet ... The Largecoin box must be ASIC-based, at their performance per Watt. It cannot be FPGA-based. And yes, I have ordered one. I am hedging my bets and have also ordered a BFL mini rig box, although its power draw is an order of magnitude higher.

Due to the Obama economy, there are still lots of office vacancies. Yeah I'm sure if McCain won there wouldn't be a vacancy for miles. You betcha. I'm not even saying that - all I'm saying is, come this election, Mr. O. can no longer blame Mr. B. for the state of the economy - after [almost] 4 years, he owns it now. No ifs and buts.

Can anyone report how hot (as reported by cgminer) their Rev3 units run? Curious to see how they compare to the Rev2 units.
About 63 to 64 degrees C. But that's in a 90+ degrees Fahrenheit room, i.e. my $215 p.M. mining office. In fact, the [Nvidia] graphics card of the Toshiba laptop that runs CGMINER and the ZTEX miner seems to be on the fritz due to the heat and I just ordered a 17" HP laptop as a replacement - it's on sale for $699 today. How the heck do you live in there without getting heatstroke? ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif) I don't "live" there - that's an office I rent (utilities included) in an office building for $215, and when I work there for more than 20 minutes, I take off my shirt and work in my undershirt, like a redneck. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I had an office even before I started mining, and got into Bitcoin mining less than a year ago as an afterthought, as a way for the office to pay its own rent. Does that make sense, so far? But now I've been infected by the Bitcoin fever and am trying to get a cash flow in the low-to-mid 4 figures going, with a Largecoin miner on order, a mini-rig box on order and 12 Singles on order, 4 of which have been delivered so far. Utilities included, eh? Hmmmm.... I might have to search for something similar in my area! Be careful though. Sometimes, if the landlord traces it back to you, they might have the right to terminate your lease with very little warning. Well, I'd certainly talk to the landlord about my plans with the place beforehand! I would hope that Inspector has done the same. About your plans to draw 4000 W out of two circuits (left wall 20A breaker, right wall 20A breaker), as I did in Palo Alto? Do you seriously think the landlord would approve of that? When you're driving home from a party, where you've had a couple of beers, and you see a police car parked at the curb, do you really stop your vehicle, walk up to the officer and say, "Excuse me, sir, I've had a few drinks, would you please be so nice and give me a breathalyzer test, so that I'm officially cleared to drive home?" Or would you rather make sure you're not speeding, then grip the steering wheel tightly and drive by? As for the office, I go by what's in the lease contract. If it says "utilities included": Fine with me. Due to the Obama economy, there are still lots of office vacancies. If a landlord kicks me out, I'm certain there are other landlords who are more than happy to rent an office to me.

the 5800 series is known for its awesome MH/$ ratios. 5850 is probably the best, but it's been tapped out, so it's just 5870 and 5830. Although 5870 has better MH/W, its MH/$ makes it unfavorable to most users. so that's why 5830 is so popular - best MH/$ ratio, most plentiful (of the 5800 series), and low starting price ($100 vs 6990s that cost $500).
I'm interested in selling used 5830 cards, working fine. PM me with an offer (including quantity of cards desired and a $offer per card).

I just received three rev. 3 Singles yesterday and have unpacked and installed one of them, and the bottom fan is back! No, it's not a rev. 2 single, it has the new heat pipe-based heat sink inside, but the weird bottom fan is back now! ![Shocked](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) (I haven't taken a look at the other two Singles yet.) If this makes anyone unhappy, I will happily send you $630 in BTC and you can ship them on to me. Hey, I was just reporting an observation. Of course I'll keep the "ugly" ones, too.

I think some earlier pics showed the small copper colored one still on the bottom, behind a grille - do you mean that one, or do you mean the full sized big black fan protruding from the bottom? I mean the black protruding one. I'm not kidding.

Anyone know what power adapters will be compatible with the new Quad boards?
I don't really want to spend like £30 on a power supply.
Any regulated 12V DC supply that supplies at least 3.5 Amps. Some old netbooks have exactly such a power supply. Or take an old PC power supply.

Order date: 1/24/12 (1) and 1/27/12 (2) Received: 4/17/12 (3) No shipment notification was received.
Did it end up in a spam box somewhere? That's odd. The ORDER confirmation was received, thus they seem to have my email address. But the primary email address on the Paypal account is my now-defunct corporate email address. So, maybe they sent the SHIPPING confirmation to the defunct corporate email address. I need to find some time to set up the corporate email again...
