261  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Calling out the Bitcoin Foundation Scam. on: March 13, 2014, 07:16:38 PM
Holding the keys has also made early comers to Bitcoin wealthy beyond measure. "I made a small investment in Bitcoin and it is actually enough that I could now retire if I wanted to," Andresen says. "Overall, I've made about $800 per penny I've invested. It's insane."

How legit is this high profile bitcoin foundation figure?

So he prefers US dollars over bitcoins? So he speculate instead of using it as a currency? Seems legit.

262  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Calling out the Bitcoin Foundation Scam. on: March 13, 2014, 07:06:34 PM
The problem with the foundation is that they are nothing more than speculators themselves and don't even have elementary skills to hide it. They are not interested in the long term success of bitcoin.

Typical statement of bitcoin foundation(or a member) when a big scam, theft etc happens "You should not invest more than you are willing to lose.". If the foundation was legit they would say "It is not an investment, get just enough you need for your commercial transactions if you do any at all. Speculators must be banned from our community, we are working on it."

Excuse me, could you tell me, is there any online form to complaint with Tokyo police?

It is unlikely this will be treated as a criminal matter until after the bankruptcy proceedings are resolved.

It is a parallel matter, you don't have to wait anything. Anyway the news is that it is already under investigation by the FBI and by Tokyo police.

One may contact the tokyo police here http://www.keishicho.metro.tokyo.jp/

266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High-frequency trading (HFT) coming to bitcoin on: March 12, 2014, 10:40:03 PM
It is only for american residents, if you are not don't even bother. I actually felt scammed for my personal data when signing up for atlasats.com and i'm requiring them to delete my data.

Without any previous notice of the above stated they ask for your full name, address(anywhere in the world) and e-mail for a step 1 verification which allows only one thousand dollars deposit or withdrawal.( Which is the same as not being allowed to trade ).

Then when you try to do step 2 and 3 that allows up to 150k you see in practice that it is only for americans.

Anyone can verify the bankruptcy protection laws in USA and Japan?

In many parts of the world the owner of the company can't have a criminal past to apply for brakrupt protection. It seems Mark has a charge for fraud in France.

That is very interesting on multiple fronts.  Could you elaborate further, perhaps indicate the charge, story, accusation, include dates, amounts, etc ...

thanks

Price should rocket if this actually happens.

Or decline, you don't know what the rules will be.
271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran and Bitcoin.... on: March 11, 2014, 09:14:21 PM
one word....eheeeeooOIL
what would happen to price of bitcoin if Iran says " ok.. sure.. i'll sell you oil in BTC"

Imagine what would Iran say when a smart guy asks for a huge amount of oil supply but to pay with Bitcoins Wink
Would they not accept it then?

With all the sanctions and treats of, that's actually what they should looking for: oil for bitcoins.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ponzi accusations on: March 11, 2014, 09:04:38 PM
The reasons do not matter, but trust me, many people do trade fiat currencies to get rich.

Not anywhere near the same.

1. Buy $1000 worth of any fiat currency of your choice.
2. Put it under your bed.
3. Wait 10 years.
4. Congratulations! You're a millionaire!

Fiat currency does not do this, but this is EXACTLY what 95% of the bitcoin 'investors' are hoping for.

I understand your point but Bitcoin was never released or promoted as an investment, people who decided to invest are doing this on their own and taking a very high risk. ANY investment fits what those journalists are describing as a ponzi. I read one journalist who called it "voluntary ponzi", he somewhat understand what i just said but ignored that all other investments are the same.
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ponzi accusations on: March 11, 2014, 08:43:10 PM
2. It's not the same as fiat currency.  No one buys dollars to stuff under their bed with the hope of striking it rich.  And the big difference between fiat and bitcoin is the regulations.  Fiat currencies are designed to operate at stated inflation rates (UK) or generally targeted inflation rates (US).  They're built to have a set value that doesn't fluctuate wildly.  Bitcoin doesn't have this.  As there's no ability to adjust the supply of the currency, it could skyrocket or plummet and there's little investors could do.

The reasons do not matter, but trust me, many people do trade fiat currencies to get rich.
274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ponzi accusations on: March 11, 2014, 07:58:32 PM
Many journalists have been lately saying that, but it seems they never cared to check fiat currencies.

The concept is absolutely the same.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_appreciation_and_depreciation

Anyone who read newspaper everyday, is probably sick of reading headlines like "<your local currency here> appreciated with the entry of $? usd dollars in the country. Investors are optmistic."(purchase of local currency) or the other way around "<your local currency here> devalued with the escape of $? usd dollars from the country. Investors in panick. " ( selling of local currency )

It is the same for gold etc. Before someone says that, gold has an actual use, but bitcoins too.

I think you're confused about what a ponzi scheme is.

I believe i am not, but i'm not entering the merit of what a ponzi is. If you been reading the news, jounalists have been accusing bitcoin of being a ponzi where the valuation is sustained only by the entry of new money. Supposing that it is true, fact is that fiat the same happens with fiat currencies.

276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After all that happened, if Dorian really is Satoshi... on: March 11, 2014, 07:19:33 AM

If Dorian really is Satoshi, he must be having a good laugh at the state of total confusion in which he has put the whole web and the defacto immunity he has derived from it.

I could see his cynic laughs.

"descentralized". Bitcoin developers give the rules and may/do change them any time they want to.

279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers steal data from MtGox server and release it with Mark's reddit account. on: March 10, 2014, 07:35:44 AM
It can't represent all of their customers if there's only 80K or so accounts, that's way too few.

At one point they were handling thousands of verifications a day weren't they? Or was it all just one big lie...?

The balance file states this:

mysql> SELECT * FROM platform.User_Wallet WHERE platform.User_Wallet.Balance != 0 ORDER BY platform.User_Wallet.Balance DESC;

Means that only accounts with balance different of 0 were retrieved.

The .exe in the info dump is a wallet stealer apparently. Haven't seen this posted yet?

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/200k30/the_tibannebackofficeexe_executable_is_wallet/

If you ran it, hopefully you did so on a sandboxed computer or VM.

Well, ain't this motherfuckin' special! I waited till the all clear prior to downloading the file and unzipping it. Now, I learn that that wasn't a good idea.

What am I up against here, guys?

If you just unzipped it you should be fine. Just don't open the .exe or .pdf

Too late! I opened the CV-Mark_Karpeles...... one. I guess that explains why the the page deal for blank.
