Auction, man, auction. And announce that you're maintaining a private reserve, threshold past which the auction for each must go if it is to be successful for the bidders.
Nope, it's a no go for auctions. And private reserves are disliked quite a lot here. I don't mind waiting for the right buyer to come across.

Out of curiosity, how much were the coins funded with?
It is possible that the thief redeemed the XMR that the coins were funded with and threw the coins in the trash (this would result in less evidence to lead back to the thief).
Miffman was provided the digital certificates that prove the coins were funded. If indeed they were redeemed, their key images would be spent and searchable on the XMR blockchain. As far as finding a trail back to the thief, I would imagine that would be a difficult task to accomplish given how opaque monero is. This is the first known theft of any of my coins that were shipped out, so perhaps I am wrong. I just checked the key image of each coin, and they're all unspent. I'm not sure whether the thief even knows how to redeem the coins, since the instruction paper was left in the envelope.

Hello,
budget is 2BTC, but I would like to buy more than just one coin. After a lot of hours looking at collectibles and your comments I think more or less now I understand the coin types. I think I prefer casacius as I see they are the popular ones. Just a few questions:
- Some coins have "ERROR" in title. What this mean exactly? is this something bad and its value should be less? - I read how the coin works. Private key is under the hologram, so if somebody removed it to see private key, in the coin you could appreciate that. Does anybody have examples about this, so if seller send me coin pictures I can see if the hologram was removed or not. - Last question... some coins for sale have GRADED. As I understand there was some verification from external party that coin has its real btc value inside. How this graded works and how much I can trust on it.
Thanks everybody!
-Error coins are coins that have some kind of visible error. Casascius error coins have a spelling error and are considered more rare, and therefore more valuable. (It isn't the rarest casascius coins out there though) In general, errors normally cost a bit more since they are normally a bit more rare. -Here is an example of a peeled coin: https://n2liquid.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/photo_6.jpg-Please note that graded coins are not a verification for a bitcoin balance, but rather a measure of the quality of the coin itself. ANACS is the usual standard for grading crypto coins here.

Thanks for the kind words all, hopefully I end up getting these coins.
Sorry to read about your lost / stolen coins, miffman.
Out of curiosity, were the coins shipped inside a heavy-duty, padded envelope (the typical 7x4" Kraft bubble-lined variety) or a standard letter envelope?
Regards, Chris
It was a standard letter envelope.
I am surprised that Smoothie would opt to ship funded XMR coins via a standard envelope without tracking. And why were they funded before the confirmation of receipt, especially since they were shipped without tracking in a standard envelope? I am sorry to hear about this miffman. The coins itself were giveaway coins so shipping was free with it. I decided to fund it and save on shipping. (It normally costs 30-50$) I was given the address and then funded them myself before it shipped. It seemed okay (to me) to ship since there were no other incidents like this, and many people received giveaway coins. I should have been a bit more responsible, but I guess it's a lesson well learnt and one that I can share here.

A few months ago, I won 3 brass XMR coins from smoothie by participating the auction for his "King Kamehameha" coins. I decided to fund it and have it shipped without any tracking. I ended up getting an envelope that was cut into and then re-sealed by customs. The coins were stolen.
I opened this thread just to say what the serial numbers are of the stolen coins. If you come across coins with either of these serial numbers, please contact me.

I have an open investigation running with the people at customs, but it looks like it won't amount to much. This incident is purely my fault for not securing the shipment. Lesson to be learnt: Always use a safer shipping option.
