261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright Satoshi Claim Case Update on: March 31, 2024, 02:16:18 AM
I'm still quite giddy being that Craig Wright was deemed to not be Satoshi according to a court of law.  What amazes me about the whole Craig Wright ordeal is that he has/had fooled so many people in to believing it even though he didn't and can't prove it, because well he's not satoshi.  Yet if you visit the BSV reddit or twitter page you'll see that there are actually a good amount of people supporting him even still, which is crazy.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Excessive Bitcoin fees on: March 31, 2024, 02:05:25 AM
What will happen when only large institutions can afford to use Bitcoin's blockchain, due to rising fees? Won't this centralize the network if most can only trade bitcoin on centralized exchanges?

It's never going to get like this in my opinion.  Bitcoin/Blockchain is a technology that can always be updated/made better and that's exactly what's going on right now and has been for the last few years.  Implementing things like the lightning network and Taproot are examples of what can be done to bitcoin to help with it's transaction time frames as well as costs.
263  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is playing poker online better than offline? on: March 31, 2024, 01:58:07 AM
I think it just entirely depends on your situation.  Some people like to play poker online that way they can be playing multiple games at once.  Personally I think playing poker in person is far more fun and more legitimate.  It's really hard to do things such as bluffing when you're playing online.

Either way for me, poker is hands down the best game Casino wise, so I like to play online as well as in person.
264  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake and Bruno Mars An Example of How Gambling Addiction Can Affect Anyone on: March 31, 2024, 01:52:50 AM
Wealthy/famous people are often thrown in to the spotlight of having a "gambling addiction".  But lets step back a bit and ask ourselves if their gambling is truly negatively affecting the lives of themselves or anyone else for that matter.  Many people who get the gambling addict picture painted of them selves are just often wealthy people who bet big, and often, but many not doing so in a matter than will break them (financially).
265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has BTC really become more attractive than gold? on: March 31, 2024, 12:53:37 AM
Personally I don’t think one is necessarily better or more attractive than the other. They both serve their own purpose, different purposes, so I think they are both attractive in their own way. Personally if I’m someone with a large enough portfolio, I’m making sure that I own both gold and bitcoin.
266  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin Testnet and it's Functionality on: March 30, 2024, 01:05:47 AM
I recently acquired some bitcoin testnet coins thanks to Cyrus (as seen in photo below).  I have always been fascinated by the Testnet but have never really gotten a good explanation of what it can and cannot do.

I've heard some say the testnet is just like using the real things.  However if that were the case, wouldn't the debate for larger blocks and what to change or implement, not really be a debate since you'd be able to test everything out to find out for sure?  Would lead me to believe that it's helpful but not really just like the actual blockchain.

I know this is rudimentary for a lot of you, but it's something I've really wanted to gain a little more insight in to, and as mentioned, I just get conflicting info whenever I ask people about it.

(Not sure if this is the correct board or not, if not my apologies mods)

267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Ordinals and Runes help Bitcoin to be a better system of electronic cash? on: March 30, 2024, 12:55:53 AM
From what little I know about them, and what I've read in this thread so far...I think ordinals were/are a complete waste of time and money.  For me, in order for bitcoin to highly succeed and have longevity, I need lower tx fees and transaction speeds.  How does the Dev team justify wasting time on stuff like this when they could be working on much more important things.  Just my two slightly educated opinion.
268  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: House always wins? The case of Trump Plaza. on: March 30, 2024, 12:44:40 AM
This is pretty typical of businesses that Donald Trump runs.  I haven't really made it a secret that I absolutely despise the "man" that is Donny T, but this isn't a political post, this is about gambling and that's one thing that I never understood.  How the heck can you bankrupt a business where you're guaranteed to come out on top.  I have no idea how popular the casinos was however, so assuming that played a role in it.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the #1 rule you live by in sports betting? on: March 30, 2024, 12:29:07 AM
For me the number one rule I live by is to never make a bet just to make a bet, unless it's only a couple bucks.  The worst bets I've ever made when it comes to gambling is those that I just wanted some action on the game and put money down, not really having any knowledge of the teams or players, if anyone was hurt or not etc.  Thats a foolish way to bet no question.

How do they expect defenders to tackle from now on, like really? I understand it can lead to some nasty injuries but that's part of the game, freak accidents happen. This is dumb.

edit;

and we have the gay xfl kickoff thing approved too...

It's amazing how lame the game can be sometimes.  In the early days of professional football the two leagues didn't have so many injuries.  Padding was minimal and the players wore leather helmets.  The gear they wear these is use more like weaponry than personal protective equipment.  The speed of the game has increased, but I think that's also a function of the more secure padding.

I often wonder what the game would look like if the league were to use Rugby style padding and helmets.

Trust me when I saw they have better protection than they ever have.  The old school leather helmet times, many I'm pretty sure we could build a team here on btalk and kick their asses lol.  Okay, maybe not..but the athletes of today are a million times more athletic, strong etc.

I am all for somewhere in the middle.  We have to keep guys as safe as possible but not make the game too "pussy-ish".
271  Economy / Economics / Re: The savings problem on: March 27, 2024, 11:59:08 PM
There has been extensive talk about how social security systems around the globe are having issues due to declining birth rates as well as a decline in the quality of employment for younger generations.

But another less often talked about issue is that almost nobody is able to make savings anymore.

Think about it. We all know at least some boomers. Most of them bought a car in their teens, a house in their thirties, went on frequent vacations and still even with all that were saving money beyond just for retirement savings.
Since that time, wage growth had stagnated, house prices have skyrocketed, and the purchasing power of the average salary has been going down.

So aside of the social security bubble potentially bursting in the future, there's also a bigger underlying issue.
Purchasing power has only been getting worse from generation to generation, and thus being able to make any savings is already a distant dream for most. Younger people just keep working more for less, to s point now where mostworking people can't put even a single dollar aside.

Could there be a solution for these issues? Economists have long argued about the strengths and failures of our economic system, but alas it appears as though "trickle down economics" has failed humanity.

So, do you agree that radical changes are needed?

Decling birth rates are a great thing for this planet and no one will ever be able to convince me otherwise.  That's also not the issues with SS.  The issue is corruption.  The government doesn't handle money properly (any government, all governments..take your pick).  They all lie about everything, spend money on shit needlessly and worst of all, the killer of all..WAR.  Imagine what we could do as a world if we stopped fucking fighting.  I also wish most people knew it's our gov's not the people behind this crap.  As an American I always remind my foreign buddies that I hate my gov probably more than they do, and that I want nothing but peace.  The US spends more on it's military each year than the rest of the world combined.  That is so ass backwards it sickens me to even think about.

For the rest of the world, I feel that too much socialism is the problem.  Also the whole buying a home thing is more so a problem of big corporations and foreign nations buying homes and becoming slum lords.  Driving prices up on rent as well as making the buyers market a disaster.  It's really sad the way things have been headed.  However most of my friends, with good, medium and okay jobs are still finding ways to buy homes.  So it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

I encourage my clients to invest as if SS wont be there.  I actually have a friend coming over shortly to help set up a portfolio for her, and will be echoing this same thing to her tonight.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are NFTs just marketing gimmicks with no added value? on: March 27, 2024, 11:51:55 PM
For the most part yes.  Just like with ordinals.  I honestly don't understand why bitcoin devs even waisted their time on them.  Is/was that really necessary? How about spending time improving the blockchain or working on satoshis proposed escrow that doesn't involve a 3rd party.

Now some NFL teams used NFTs for game tickets.  Now that's legit utility.  I know there's stuff in the gaming and music world that can utilize them in some fashion that is legit, but I don't really understand how they work.
273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Karate Combat on: March 27, 2024, 11:47:35 PM
I am not into Karate. What I know about karate is from Mortal Combat games and watching Van Damme movies. Anyways, I have recollections of my youngers years with this thread. And I am ready to explore it more to awaken and refresh my childhood memories. I had no issues downloading the app on my mobile device from clicking on the website link. I have looked at the list of fighters and even though I am not familiar with anyone yet, if I stay consistent with the app, I soon will have a favorite fighter in the male and female category.

I do not see anyplace to stake on a fighter. Is there?

Watching fights and earning tokens is the extra dopamine needed to stimulate our interest. Looking to having a wonderful experience.

Raiden wins! Man, MK was and is still one of my all time fav games.  I knew a few of the Fatality type finishing moves and loved deploying those in a "flawless victory".

Karate might have been more fun and popular today if guys like Van Damme and Bullshito master Steven Seagal actually fought against each other rather than just pretended to be tough in movies. I think the best example is Bruce Lee.  Fake tough guy.  Now the real bad ass who deserves all the memes and saying is Walker Texas Ranger , the one and only Chuck Norris.  I don't know if there's many martial artists who could have taken him on.  Bolo and Michael Jai White are another pair of martial artists I love and were real life bad asses.

Anyways this has kinda got me excited so looking forward to checking out this project , make placing some bets!
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poll: What Crypto coin would you prefer in a skill game on: March 27, 2024, 11:39:30 PM
Ever since Tman left the forum I haven't really gotten to know many of the shitcoins like I once did.  He was always pitching some sort of coin he thought would pump (to be fair it's not like he didn't fully admit and acknowledge they were shitcoins with no real utility other than to make a few bucks)..but the coin I know is popular with DeFi stuff is Matic.  I sent Matic coins to the wrong chain once, took a few months to get back but binance came through for me.  So since I learned a hard lesson with Matic and have a decent handle on it, I'd probably choose that.   Curious about the details though.
275  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Shohei Ohtani Gambling Saga on: March 27, 2024, 11:32:50 PM
The situation is definitely suspect. Thats a lot of money to be moving around for someone who is supposedly your translator. I can’t say I really care though as long as he was betting on himself and not against his team. The real tragedy remains that Pete Rose still isn’t in the Hall of Fame.

Exactly, I don't give to flying fcks really, unless you're betting against your own team.  I mean I guess I don't love the idea of someone betting on their own games, unless it's just like take your team at the ML.  Otherwise it can get dicey.  Also, agreed..Pete has served his time, it's time to let the man in.  He's not getting any younger.  I mean betting baseball isn't nearly as bad as the steroid era HOFr's, and I think most of them should prob get in some way, some how.  I wonder how popular gambling is in Japan.

I was just curious about if anyone of you guys have been following this Shohei Ohtani gambling saga/controversy going on right now?  This is a HUGE deal in the world of sports, and of course specifically in Major League Baseball.  If you aren't familiar with who Shohei Ohtani is, he's a Japanese born MEGA star in major league baseball.  He's both a pitcher and someone who hits, which in the world of baseball is VERY rare.  No since the legendary Babe Ruth have we've seen such a player who's so great at doing both.  He's become the face of baseball which is what makes all of this all the more crazy.

I wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

snip

I very rarely give baseball any attention during this period of the year as what could happen that it could catch my interest? But now it seems I was missing a huge story, so thanks from bringing it up, but at this moment it is difficult to say whether he is guilty or not, right now I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as it seems Mizuhara and Ohtani were very close, so it is entirely possible Ohtani trusted the guy so much that he never thought Mizuhara could abuse his position to such an extent and involve him in such a massive scandal.

Most seem to think his translator is being the ultimate friend and taking the fall for his buddy.  Which, Ohtani just signed a 700 million dollar contract, so it only makes sense for all parties involved.  It's an odd situation.

These guys need to learn how to bet in a smart fashion.  They could learn a few lessons from this particular board lol.
276  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you believe in savings or investment on: March 26, 2024, 09:40:46 PM
saving money is actually a loss because the value of your money the purchasing power of your money will decrease due to inflation. because the value of inflation is always higher than the value of bank interest. so saving money is actually a loss not a gain.
So investing and saving is good and good which one is of course investing is better than saving.
iam preffer investment if compare saving

This is short sided and not necessarily true.  It all depends on the rate of inflation. "Saving" money can also mean several different things.  Right now here in the United States you can find savings accounts paying around 4-5%.  If inflation is say , 3%, then technically you aren't losing anything.  There are some sort term CDs that beat the rate of inflation currently.  Again, savings can mean a lot of different things.
277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the pros and cons of gold compared to bitcoin? on: March 26, 2024, 09:38:17 PM
This topic has been brought up on the forum at least a million different times at this point.  Gold and Bitcoin are two entirely different things and comparing the two I'm not sure does much good.  I mean there's nothing wrong with comparing the two, but it's important to know that one is not a replacement for the other.

Gold is a physical precious metal, it's used for jewelry, auto-parts, electronics parts etc etc.  It's also a fantastic hedge for a portfolio, a much better hedge than bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a digital currency.  It's not a great hedge (not yet anyhow) and it's not used for real world physical purposes.
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rich or poor gambler, who should risk more? on: March 26, 2024, 09:35:00 PM
If you're poor you shouldn't be betting a single freaking cent/satoshi on any gambling what so ever.  It will only make things worse, in almost damn near full probability.  Here in the US we've got video poker /slot machine parlors all freaking over the place.  There is more slot machine parlors in my city than any other kind of business by far.  Not to mention in most restaurants, gas stations etc. If you visit them, the type of people that are always there...poor people.  Same as the majority of people who buy lotto tickets and scratch offs. If you're poor, invest that money in your life, in your future, not in a low odds game or chance.  When  I see people buying a scratch off I can't help but think how much better that money would be spent taking a shot on some cheap shitcoin.

I actually this is the opposite of what it should be.

A rich person doesn't need money.

A poor person needs money.

That is a fact.

So, if we start with that, then we have that a rich person most probably wouldn't be interested in gambling because they already have enough money. Keyword being enough.

Now, the poor person doesn't have enough money. That means they would be possibly be lured into gambling to get more money from nothing.

You are missing the entire point then and I'm not sure what sort of world you're living in, because these are some pretty ridiculous statements.  Wealthy people gamble very often, and just because they don't "need" the money doesn't mean that they don't want more money, or find the fun in gambling.

Gambling is a game of risk, it's a game that poor people should not be taking as the odds of winning are typically very low. Poor people should not be taking such risks.  It's insane to think otherwise.  Poor people tend to stay poor due to making bad decision, like pissing away their money by gambling.
279  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the most underrated sport? on: March 26, 2024, 09:31:15 PM
Slap fighting competitions.

Have you heard about it? I've seen a bunch of videos and I guess I did became part of an algorithm that's being sent with these videos about slap fight competitions. There's still a debate about it whether it's a sport or not.

But bookies are free to list any sport that they want to have right? as long as there is a demand for that sport and bettors like to cast their money and bets on it.

I would probably agree with you here.  I've just recently become aware of slap fighting and how it all works.  Man, there are some crazy mofos who participate in this sport.  Not only do I find the men's competitions interesting, but also women's slap fighting.  I personally would have no interest in ever doing this myself, but it sure is a lot of fun to watch!
