Marketing marketing marketing ...... -Looks better than whatsapp -100% free (whatsapp costs like 0,8 euro a year) -lightning fast and easy payment methods in btc and gems -secure .. nobody can read your stuff etc I missed something? hehe So where on the internet can people see the advantages of gems etc? I could only persuade 3-4 friends to install the gems messenger. They dont care about security and one of them said .... quote: wtf is cryptocurrencies? Basically we need whatsapp to get hacked... very very hard... sooo hard that people cant use the app for dayzzzz... If something like this occurs in the future and gems isnt exploiting this happening then i don't think you are ruthless enough to be the best. Making new tech is nice, but if you dont crave to be the best and be ruthless .... then lesser tech will beat you You forgot that it pays users for using it in lots of different innovative ways seen here and here . O and don't use the term cryptocurrency they don't understand it, just say it's money, give the example of how much bitcoin is worth.

As much as I love Gems, I am sort of wondering why they're working on these emoticons and not on the iPhone version.
I have been using the old version and texting a few of my android friends and sending them gems. To me, it is already the best messaging app in the world. We just need the iPhone version so it can be used by everyone!
I think there will be time for cute little emoticons later.
I hope the app doesn't become too cluttered. Saying that I live in Korea and would love it if Gemz developed later into something like Kaotalk. I don't know much about messenger apps but there seems a lot of room for expansion once you get users onboard. I think Kaotalk has separate apps though. I wonder if the Gems team have a product they want to emulate or have a separate vision? Will the app ever get a calling option? http://www.kakao.com/Although none of these apps make it able to do money transactions instantly with zero fees and rewarding users like gems plans to do. This alone is revolutionary. This app needs to go mainstream before one of these messengers start to copy its model. I think every legit feature the community wants to see can and will eventually get implemented, updating the code is something that is always happening. Even apps that are out for years are still improving. I think there are some suggestions by the community regarding features, something for Danial maybe in the next Q&A.

It seems like GIF results only come up for keywords that have a sticker as well. I see the GIF search is powered by GIPHY, so would it be possible to do a GIF keyword search any time an individual word is input? I noticed a lot of things that don't have GIF results that probably could/should, because they don't have an associated sticker. Or maybe you could have a separate button to press if you want to insert a GIF based on an input word if it would be too much of a strain on data to auto-search after every word input. Just some suggestions because I would love to see more capabilities in this GIF area.
Agreed, i would love to see more possibilities in this area. Please make it happen.

satoshi might be gavin or andreas.

bitcoin needs to be way way way more accepted, if just the big merchants like mcdonalds, burgerking, starbucks etc. accepting it would be gold. Still waiting for one of these big fastfood retaurant to accept it.

Anyone knows how long it takes for GEMZ transaction to confirm in the app? And will bitcoin confirmation time stay the same or will is also be faster?
Until they move to off-chain transactions, it's always going to be based on the bitcoin network, which is about 1 block every 10 minutes. Unless they move to a faster blockchain like Via for example which has 24 second block times. Off-chain makes gemz instant, can bitcoin also be off chain for instant transactions?

Sending gifs is pretty cool, app is slowly maturing to that killer IM people want. I might do a bits giveaway from within the app after the airdrop and iOS release. People will have to download the app and join group chat. This way they can experience the next level crypto simplicity.
How can I join the group chat? Would be fun I give my username you add me and from there i add people to groupchat, there is room up to 200 people. Imagine how fun it would be. Although i have to send btc to users separately since sending btc in a groupchat is not possible (yet).

The problem is that the common person is too much dumbed down by the government, they are economic slaves without knowing it and dont know how bitcoin can free them.

No i dont do business with chinese exchanges because its harder to deal with than western exchanges, they seem less trustable to me from past bitcoin events in comparison to a regulated exchange in the west.

Because if bitcoin goes mainstream it can put lot of other payment processors out of business, like wu, visa, mastercard and even banks. Thos who follow wont really get hurt but other might not want bitcoin to succeed and they have some power to slow down bitcoins growth. You cant compare some photo sharing technology with bitcoin.

Couple features which should be added.
- When adding Bits, add to settings the option for users to choose between BTC and Bits units.
- Make it possible to send BTC/GEMZ in group chat to a specific person.
Agreed especially the second one which i really hope gets implemented, it would be very useful and a game changer as well since it opens a whole new way of communicating in a group, you can use btc/gemz to bet, flirt, or you just want to reward someone by something he said which could be equivalent to street hand gestures you give your friend and the fact that everyone is watching is money is being sended in such manner is pretty amazing.

Can we price it in already then?

We should organise a bitcoin (bits) giveaway through Gems app, this can be done as a tribute to the iOS and airdrop release which makes both os versions complete. There is room for 200 people in group chat, how awesome would that be.

Nieuwe update Gems developer update - android build 2.1.7(410) 1. Our major concern during the last two weeks is improving Counterparty stability. We currently rely on Counterparty servers in order to perform tasks like opening a new wallet, sending coins, etc. The Counterparty dev team updates their servers and API very frequently and these changes aren't always backwards compatible. Then we suddenly find ourselves with broken API and rushing to publish fixes because important features suddenly stop working. Our plan of action is to launch a cluster of our own XCP nodes (they are open-source after all) and rely on them instead. This way, we will control the rate of updates and can make any updates to our client before the servers change. We have successfully set up a staging environment for this and will soon after some QA deploy it to production as well. 2. We finished development for unsolicited user support - meaning the ability to search the global user database of GetGems users according to their GetGems username and start a conversation with them without knowing their phone number. [In the future, our model dictates that sending unsolicited messages to users who don’t necessarily want to receive them, will cost GEMZ (this is part of the attention economy model)]. 3. We are thinking of ways to increase our user base and make the GetGems app more viral. The first method we're working on is handling sending of coins (GEMZ/BTC) to contacts who don't have the GetGems app (they are using a regular Telegram client). These users will receive a Telegram message saying that their contact is trying to send coins and they have to download the app in order to collect them (download link added). This feature is currently in QA. 4. Another very exciting feature we're working on is integration with an amazing 3rd party sticker provider. This opt out feature will display context-aware stickers during chat (even animated GIFs) which makes chatting through GetGems much more visual and fun. When these special chat messages are sent to users who don't have a supporting client (like the GetGems client), they'll receive a message urging them to download the GetGems app in order to see the content of the message. We are currently in the middle of the integration phase which we expect to be finished within less than week. 5. We currently allow several GetGems accounts to be opened on the same phone number (useful in case somebody loses the passphrase and has to open a new account). This behavior causes an inconsistency when sending coins to users by text message, in case the receiving user has opened several different accounts (wallets) on the same phone number - which wallet should receive the coins? We altered the current behavior to send the coins to the latest account but this fix is temporary. We're working on a more robust solution where the receiving user will provide the sending user with the current wallet that is in use by their app.
