2601  Other / Archival / Re: Why you should not use Paypal for Bitcoin on: November 02, 2020, 11:55:42 AM
Paypal presented the fees for its crypto services.

Well what can I say, the commissions are simply monstrous. Considering that it is possible to buy and sell cryptocurrency only within Paypal, the ban on deposits and withdrawals and a large spread, there is no particular point in using this service, unless only those who simply have no other choice due to any restrictions.

The only consolation is that no fees will be charged for centralized storage of cryptocurrency. Well, at least something. Cheesy

With such a company policy and with such fees .... it's a fiasco.

I don't understand why you should be having a problem here. Their fee structure looks extremely reasonable for me. For example, if I am purchasing $24 worth of Bitcoin, then I have to pay $0.50 as fee. If I do the same with any of the exchanges, I need to pay manytimes that amount. The median transaction fee is going at around $10 right now. No need to blame them all the time. Appreciate the good things that they are doing.
2602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal is doing it on: November 02, 2020, 11:38:06 AM
Do not worry! You don't lose anything if you do not have a PayPal account... It's better to use bitcoin without any intermediaries! If you have your private key, then you have your bitcoin! In PayPal you are not given your private key!

The experienced people don't use intermediaries, as they know the dangers of doing so. But nowadays, I have seen a lot of people using exchange wallets to store some of their coins. Also, I have seen a lot of users storing their money in Tether (USDT) and the other stablecoins. This is not something that I would recommend, but some people find it convenient. Such people may be open to storing their coins in PayPal.
2603  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs. Conor McGregor on: November 02, 2020, 11:26:19 AM
Floyd seem right, he is really popular, and anytime he fight he makes big money, we can't deny that.
In fact, Manny would not make the biggest payday of his career as a boxer if Floyd does not fight him, same goes with Floyd but this guy has been making big money already before he fought Manny. His name was even change from Pretty Floyd to "Money", because he literally makes money.

You can't really compare Floyd with the others. Floyd is an American citizen, and he has huge following among certain sections of the American society. The same can't be said about Manny and Conor. Manny obviously is popular among the Americans, but not as much as the native boxers such as Floyd. And that's why Manny tried hard for a rematch with Floyd. The only foreign boxer whom I have seen making big money in the US recently is Canelo Álvarez, due to his support base among the Mexican Americans.
2604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: November 02, 2020, 11:15:35 AM
Fees are still high.  I don’t think bitcoin is only for early miners who have a lot of bitcoins, and for rich people’s who have a lot of money they both can pay as High fees he wants. We have to focus on whole users wich don’t have *million of bitcoins and can’t handle such a high fees.

I was about to make a transaction today, but surprisingly the transaction fee is too high unlike before. Though I can optimise the fee but I need an instant transaction which will cost me to much. So instead of making transaction I just trade it with XRP, which save me a lot of amount. Bitcoin is not for those who are in a hurry and want to spend large amount of transaction fee.

This can result in even more loss. Did you checked the exchange rates of XRP for the past few days? During the last one month, its price has declined from 2400 Sat to around 1750 Sat. And the trends indicate that it will go down even further during the next few weeks. So by attempting to reduce your fee, you are incurring even more loss. I understand that the transaction fee is very high. But we don't have a choice.
2605  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown in Europe can their economy survive this?. on: November 02, 2020, 11:04:00 AM
I was looking at some of the stats. And I wonder what they have achieved till now. Just checked the stats from Belgium, where they now have more than 1,000 deaths per million from  COVID 19. That is, losing 0.1% of the population to the virus in 6 months. Compare this to the United States. There is no lockdown there, and the deaths per million seems to be lower than some of the European nations.
2606  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it possible to live without banks? on: November 02, 2020, 10:22:27 AM
I think other big companies will follow in the footsteps of Paypal as it embraces the world of cryptocurrency especially when it has seen and had good results.  This is also said to be the reason for the recent rise in the price of bitcoin.  It is better to think that the bank and the blockchain are working together to deliver a new idea that will benefit everyone.  You can use either of the two, fiat or crypto.  So if you are a crypto user, you can not miss the bank.

Fiat currencies are rapidly losing their value and that is the reason why people are going for decentralized assets such as gold and Bitcoin. Even the stock markets are not looking safe right now. Many of the large-cap and mid-cap stocks are having a very high P/E ratio, and they may perform really badly if a market crash occurs in the future. This has prompted investors to diversify their portfolio, by including assets such as cryptocurrency.
2607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin betting on the 2020 US Presidential Election | Trump vs Biden on: November 02, 2020, 10:03:51 AM
Regarding the current Biden/Trump situation, I would bet on Trump because the chances for either of them winning are closer to 50/50, while the outcome odds for Trump are above 2.0 everywhere.
50/50? Why do you think that?
The first election was very tight and he disappointed many of his voters during its mandate.

Gotta side with @Saint-loup here, latest polls from FiveThirtyEight are pointing to a Biden Win @+8.5. Majority of the swing states are in Blue right now.

Last time also, Fivethirtyeight had given 90% chance for Hillary and less than 10% for Trump. And everyone knows what happened in the end. We can't really trust the polls, because they can't accurately predict the difference in turnout for both the camps. Back in 2016, none of the polls could predict that the turnout among the Democrat voting block (especially with the minority voters) would be 6-7% lower when compared to 2012.
2608  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs. Conor McGregor on: November 02, 2020, 10:00:19 AM
Just seen this.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/sports/boxing/762211/pacquiao-vs-mcgregor-won-t-be-as-big-says-floyd-mayweather/story/

Floyd Mayweather stated that the event will not be a big event without the involvement of Floyd Mayweather.

Do you think this fight can beat the 2nd highest selling PPV which is Conor vs Floyd?

There was a reason why the Floyd vs Conor fight could attract so much revenue ($600 million). Floyd was at his peak, and at that time Conor was also getting hyped in the MMA market. But the revenue distribution shows who is the boss. Floyd ended up with a paycheck of $275 million, while Conor received $100 million. So Floyd is right there. Neither Manny, not Conor can match his revenue generation power.
2609  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏏🏏 sportbet.one 🏏🏏 [IPL 2020] Prediction pool and discussion 🏏🏏 on: November 02, 2020, 08:01:59 AM
Agreed. One among RCB and DC will be the 2nd team to qualify today and the loser along with KKR will be hoping that SRH loses. Several teams like Punjab and RR came close to the line, but couldn't cross it. Will SRH suffer the same fate? Let's see.

SRH is having such a good NRR. So in case they are able to beat MI somehow, then it is certain that they will qualify for the playoffs. The winner of RCB and DC will get another slot. KKR's chances are not looking that bright now. Anyway, just two matches remaining, and we still don't know which are the teams (apart from MI), who are going to qualify for the playoffs.
2610  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 02, 2020, 07:47:37 AM
What can you expect from this tournament all matches will be one-sided with Pakistan dominating all three. Ironically the last two matches Pakistan was not able to beat Zimbabwe convincingly. I was expecting a good victory from yesterday's match like 8 wicket win but unfortunately, that does not seem to happen. Expecting a convincing win by Pakistan in the last ODI.

I don't want to blame the Pakistan players. The Zimbabweans are not putting any pressure on them, and as a result the Pakistan players are getting complacent. They may be asking themselves what they are getting even if they win the series 3-0. There is hardly any media coverage outside Pakistan, and the fans are after IPL. A triangular or quadrangular series would have added more interest, but then conducting such a large tournament may not be possible for the PCB during this pandemic period.
2611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 02, 2020, 07:05:31 AM
MI, suddenly are a different team now, they have been winning matches and creating a complex situation for other teams. SRH has to win their next match with MI but the way MI is playing cricket now it will be a tough one for SRH.

SRH is playing well.. and they need to make use of Mumbai's vulnerabilities. MI batting is quite strong, with Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock in top form nowadays. On top of that Pollard and Hardik Pandya are butchering the bowlers in the end overs. However, they have one vulnerability. And that is the inconsistency of their bowlers. Only Bumrah has performed in a consistent manner. Boult and Pattinson have taken the wickets, but they are not consistent.
2612  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏏🏏 sportbet.one 🏏🏏 [IPL 2020] Prediction pool and discussion 🏏🏏 on: November 01, 2020, 06:11:58 PM
KKR won by such a huge margin, but their run rate still remains in negative (-0.214). Now we have the RCB vs DC clash tomorrow. Their net run rates are -0.145 and -0.159 respectively. If it is a close match, even the losing team will be having a better run rate when compared to the KKR. But if one team beats the other one by a large margin, then it will be advantageous for KKR.

Even if they finish behind RCB and DC, they will qualify in case SRH gets defeated by the MI.
2613  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏏🏏 sportbet.one 🏏🏏 [IPL 2020] Prediction pool and discussion 🏏🏏 on: November 01, 2020, 05:20:54 PM
Punjab is out as I expected since CSK rebounded towards the end thanks to the optimal mix of young and experienced players. Was surprised to get the margin point though since O thought CSK thrashed Punjab.

KKR are performing brilliantly against RR. They are thrashing RR at the moment though I am curious to see the margin by which they win this one. Anything over 75+ something runs could put KKR ahead of DC and RCB. That would be a crazy comeback from the bottom of the table.

Right now RR need 86 runs from 31 balls, so having a victory margin of 75 plus is going to be very difficult. But RR has lost 7 wickets and Shreyas Gopal and Jofra Archer are out there now. If they could get three quick wickets, then KKR will be having an advantage in the net run rate. They may not be able to overtake SRH, but it may help them to close the gap with DC and RCB. We have the match between DC and RCB tomorrow, and therefore the run rate of at least one of these two teams will go down from the current level.

Great moment for the Pakistani Umpire Aleem Dar to make a new world record of most ODI matches officiated by him.

Aleem Dar set to break record for most ODIs as on-field umpire

It is a huge achievement. Umpiring is a tedious profession and all of us appreciate the hard work they put in. Even now, the top tier umpires receive only 1/10th or 1/20th of the salary that an average international player receives. Aleem Dar made his debut in 2000, at the age of 32. It has been a career spanning more than two decades, and he had his ups and downs. I hope he will be in action for at least one more decade.
2615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fast food restaurants accepting crypto as payment method? on: November 01, 2020, 01:24:08 PM
Here in India, I have seen one coffee shop accepting payments in Bitcoin (when I was visiting Delhi). But apart from that, I haven't seen Bitcoin signs anywhere in any of the shops. Now coming back to the payment part, just 2-3 hours back, I had to pay $9 for a single transaction as fee. The fee is getting sky high, and the time needed for confirmation is also going up. And this makes it very difficult to make the payment in BTC. Do you really think that the shopkeeper will be patient enough to wait for 1 hour?
2616  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network on: November 01, 2020, 01:18:07 PM
This is what the first transaction of buying bitcoin with PayPal looks like:

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire hinted that the function is now available for a limited number of persons.

Can someone please explain me the "transaction fee" part? From the screenshot, it looks as if PayPal didn't charged any transaction fee at all. Two hours back, I paid $9 to confirm one of my transactions. So ideally, this user should have paid a similar amount while purchasing $100 worth of crypto. But it is showing as zero fee. What's the logic behind this? Is PayPal paying the fee for its users?
2617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 01, 2020, 01:12:10 PM
Zimbabwe really looks hopeless. If they are unable to compete against teams such as Pakistan, then I wonder how they will perform against teams such as England and Australia. The four experienced players (Brendan Taylor/Sean Williams/Craig Ervine/Sikandar Raza) are getting the runs, but none of the others in the playing XI are giving them any sort of support. Bowling in particular looks awful, with the absence of players such as Kyle Jarvis.
2618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Tether (USDT) be really called decentralized cryptocurrency? on: November 01, 2020, 01:08:29 PM
I am not sure how much decentralized Tether is. A few weeks back, the Kucoin exchange got hacked, and cryptocurrencies including some amount of USDT were stolen. But after a few days, most of the USDT was frozen. Now this may sound like a good thing, as the thieves don't get the profits from their robbery, but it raises serious questions about the decentralization of Tether. If they can freeze wallets like that, then there is a chance that it can happen to anyone.
2619  Economy / Economics / Re: Not enough Corona Virus Vaccine until 2024, at earliest on: November 01, 2020, 01:02:12 PM
I don't know why people are still talking about this 2024 deadline. Many of the vaccine manufacturers have announced that they are about to finish the final phase trials and the market availability will start within the next one to two months. We can expect everyone to be vaccinated by the end of 2021. But I am now more concerned about the huge economic implication. For the developing nations, this is going to be a very costly exercise.
2620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: November 01, 2020, 12:56:27 PM
Is this the same issue with South African cricket as they are providing quota rather than looking for skills but Indian team has a good composition of talents and without talent and performance you cannot hang on to the team for a long time.

Selection related controversy was always present with the Indian national team. MSK Prasad was known to have a bias in favor of players from his state, such as Hanuma Vihari. But that is how the system in India works. Everyone will be having a certain amount of bias, either towards his state side, or towards his IPL franchise (or both).
