2621  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question about antminer u3 PSU on: January 24, 2016, 06:51:15 PM
Hello...

On bitmain's post about his miner, they specify that the PSU need must have 12 V and 6A.

My question is:

Can i use it with a PSU that gives 4.5 A and 12 V?

THanks

maybe.  but not at full speed. or not at all I do not know what type of psu you refer to.

lets go slow.  the amp number 6  refers to 120 ac volt input   so 6 x 120 = 720 watts ac which in turn converts to about 55 amps dc 12 volts  now 55 x 12 = 660watts dc available.

Since an s-3 maxes at 450 watts maybe   this why they use those numbers.
since 450 is way less then 660 you should be fine.

You ask about a 4.5 amp psu  in such a way I do not know if you are refering to a weak little wall wart that gives 4.5 amps dc.

that will burn like a torch!!

this is a photo of a 4.5 amp wall wart   this will not work!

yap, it was actually burning but i changed the default values and  underclocked it a little bit and now it gives me like 40 gh instead of 60 but the psu is not hot!

ill search the limit Smiley

thanks

I would get a new power brick if one you are using was "burning".  It being hot is not a good thing at all, avoid this as much as possible.

It's like playing with fire if it's truly that hot.  Eventually your going to have a problem as they should not be "burning".
2622  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano - Stick Mining Fun! on: January 24, 2016, 06:47:05 PM
I honestly did not like the GUI very much at all. Have you tried using BFGMiner? I had it up and running pretty quick with that and was getting really good speeds.
i dont know how  to set it up with bfgminer

Look at this part - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1022764.msg11068189#msg11068189

It links to bfgminer commands.  The GUI they use also uses bfgminer as the backend of it.
2623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which miners generates most heat? on: January 24, 2016, 06:44:34 PM
Problem with avalons that i cant buy any on eBay and avalon 4 cant see another to buy.

Hard part about 4.1's is most who have them paid more then S5's.   They are one of the most quiet miners out there to if underclocked which costed a premium.

I plan after winter selling my set of 3.   If a deal came before then depending on price I might do it.   Guess all depends on price.
2624  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminee S3+ Asic Status X Problem on: January 24, 2016, 06:37:11 PM
A friend of mine has a problem with his Antminer S3+, apparently, one of his fans died. After a few weeks, he noticed some "X" on ASIC Status of his first board, then the next day all of his first board was full of "X" followed by the second board getting all "X". Now, I'm not sure exactly is there any overheating protection in the device or how it works.
So, do you think the board actually got completely fried and dead, or it is that the "overheating protection" jumps in and turns off the chips because the device can't be cooled properly with only one fan?

Would be very thankful for any info   Cheesy

The overheat protection, if its on the S3, would stop the hashboard from running, not kill the chips. And "cooled properly" what temps are the S3 at? I'm pretty sure the single fan should be able to keep it cool enough, although it would spin very fast/loud.

Did he power cycle his S3? Thats usually the first thing you do at any first sign of trouble.

I would first try to powering the entire machine off then on via PSU.  Not through GUI but the PSU power switch.  That should do it  on most, some S3's require a little bit of watching others are much better.

What PSU are you using?  Plugged into 2 or 4 PCIe slots?
2625  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon6 safety or how I burnt my avalon6 on: January 24, 2016, 06:33:17 PM
Is there a particular thing to do, to get 3.2 to 3.4THs? I get wildly different temps and different hashrate and no where near 3.4THs. Is it a overvolt thing only? I'm on ATX psu but i usually get 12.1v at the ui;

I see "smartspeed" is on, not sure if i need to do manual tuning or something?

(shortened post quite a bit)

I am not sure  what your question is.  the screen shot above is showing 3.5th  is that you?

I think hes asking what causes the lower then 3.5 area, I'm guessing he has not experienced it.   The most common reason I would say is the PSU puts out less then 12.0 volts.

Not all PSU's are the same on putting out exactly 12 or 12.1 even.  I have some EVGA's that worked great for everything else but with A6's they tend to be 11.9-12 most of time.
2626  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 24, 2016, 06:26:54 PM
I was under the impression that they were sufficiently cooled

2x120mm 12V fans blowing air up under the base of the bottom one's.
airflow created by the fans of the U3 to cool the base on the middle and top ones.

They're in my garage, so temperature is between 5<25C (and changes gradually) over the year.

I would think the cooling depends ambient and how hard you push them.  Look at batch 1's they thought they were..... and they had lots of issues.

But you did have batch 2's.   25 c does not sound to bad.  If you might use the IR temperature gun if you have one.    I thought the metal bottom could get a bit hot when running, but I could be wrong.
2627  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Discussion about the life time of hardware on: January 24, 2016, 06:20:25 PM
i wanna buy some Antminer S7 unites but i don't know how long can they live so if i invest 40K and after that they well get down, it's gonna be a bad deal to me, so fellas if you have any information about life time of this hardware's you can leave comment

Thank You  Grin

You are talking about buying from private company that does not release amount of RMA's vs sales.... so no way to really tell.  Also 40k would not all be spent on miners unless your hosting somewhere else.  You would need to set up your mining area, with cooling, power, etc.  It add's up and that is a lot of electricity.

Normally the gear lasts long enough it will eventually be less usefull for normal electricity and is sold to "cheap" or "free" electricity users.  What is your electricity price?
2628  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How much power will an S7 use per month in kWh? on: January 24, 2016, 07:39:53 AM
I have two questions:

Can someone give me an idea how much power an S7 will use per month in KwH's? (I know there are a few variables like efficiency and temperature)

What is the main difference I will see with plugging an S7 in a 120v, 208v, or 240v outlet using an EVGA G2 1600w power supply? Will this just make the S7 more efficient or will I also save on power?

Thanks for your input.

240v should be more efficient, by maybe 1% more. The kW depend on the S7, but kW/h = kW per hour. So you just multiply kW per the number of hours in the month. Tongue

So a B8 would be 1.4kW * amount of hours in the month.

Ok....so...

30 days X 24 hours = 720 hours a month

1.4kW X 720 = 1008 kWh

and assuming .10 per kWh...power cost would be 1008 X .10 = $100 per month

Normally I dont recommend this site but it is good for power.  http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency

Entering 1400 watts at .10 cents you get - $3.36 for electricity per day.   So times it by day's in month say January 31.  3.36 X 31 = 104.16  So you are pretty close at 100ish.  Just make sure that .10 cents includes things  I mention in above post.   Past electricity bill is honestly best way to get it.
2629  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 24, 2016, 07:23:50 AM
middle left and top right.

The previous one was the top left.

Well I guess there goes my theory on being up getting more heat with middle left.   I ran a lot more fans then I needed to when I was using U3's.   I was OCing compacs so the U3's got the fan's from them.   I set up a overkill 5 or 6 fan through a fan controller was for fun as much as anything.... and I like leds Smiley

Mine were pretty constant in that after using my R1 I didn't baby sit for at least 2 months or so.
2630  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do you believe with bitcoin on: January 24, 2016, 07:08:49 AM
I dont think that is possible.

Of course believe in it. It is possible for bitcoin to last long. only distractions in market price can be found in growing firms. This clearly indicates the bitcoin is in its growth. People getting much attached to bitcoin.

I also believe in bitcoin's future. That's the reason I keep on some bitcoins every month regularly. I believe on like one satoshi price will be 1$.

Lol it's impossible. Can you image that if one satoshi price will be $1 ? how about faucets ? they will pay you 0.00001 satoshi per faucets maybe. it's more hard to count that decimal from satoshi to bitcoin. lol.

faucet claim amount can adjust but if you imagine 1satoshi becomes $1 in value, so we need to pay atleast $10000 as miner fee for every transaction if that happens? i dont think so. bitcoin price is possible to reach very high but not like that. and if you compute 1satoshi to $1, can you really imagine a bitcoin will worth $100m in the future? thats impossible IMHO

Anyone who thinks they are going to get rich off current faucets... is nuts.  It's pretty simple.  You will make cent's per hour and I can't believe how many actually do this.

Compare time spent on faucet and amount you make.  In most cases you would be better off buying 5 dollars worth sit it on a paper wallet for years and it will be more then almost all faucet use.  And Bitcoin is not get rich quick.  To many think that it is.
2631  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Breadwallet says I need 27.3 bitcoins to make a payment! Help! on: January 24, 2016, 07:05:05 AM
I can't get this to work... I dont understand!...

see the post above yours from shorena, it could be either 27.3 µBTC or 27.3 mBTC (most likely it is 27.3 µBTC) which is confusing for newbie sometimes since it is no way the wallet ask the make a payment of 27.3 BTC. You could add a screenshot here so we can all check what is going on with your wallet.

As you are new I will warn you be careful wit people who offer help in PM.  Some scammers look for people who are new like this thread and aske for private key, or seed, and try for a scam.

But take screenshot of message as said in previous message.  I think it is a smaller unit being asked for then amount you mentioned in BTC.
2632  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get a loan? on: January 24, 2016, 07:01:35 AM
Hi.
Will someone explain to me if what's the procedure of getting a loan in bitcointalk.org?
And what i will need for borrowing a loan?

You have to visit the lending section in this forum, posting your thread with your asked amount to borrow, and also the collateral (try providing a valid collateral) and the repayment date, and then some members will reply you and making this loan successful

The problem is most don't seem to have collateral that is worth while.  If they had the full amount for collateral most would not need a loan.  And truth is to many new accounts come to site thinking they can get a loan invest it and make easy profit.

Truth is bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme. A important thing I don't see is OP what are you wanting loan for?
2633  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Daniel Mross paid 2700 BTC to ButterflyLabs in 2012 for 25 Gh/s on: January 24, 2016, 06:47:11 AM
You can't value Bitcoin like it a few years ago. Now it worths much more. Now you spend 1 BTC for something but in 5 years you probably won't because it will mean a lot of money. So I don't really think those guys did something wrong spending so many coins at once.

Trusting BFL was a mistake, granted there was no way to know this back then.  But anyone with BFL pretty much lost that is almost 100 percent.  Delay's and lies just made them a bad bet.

And it is true he did not do it wrong.  He just made a bad investment.   We can see that now but again back then hard to see.  Easy to arm chair quarterback it at this point.

But one who held that instead of spending now would be worth quite a bit to say the least.

So a few weeks ago i bought the antminer U3 from ebay, but when i got it the wall to adapter cable wasn't in the package and since i'd blown $60 on this i couldnt buy a new one yet Angry  just today i bought the cord, went home and got it working  Smiley when i went to slush's pool it showed after 5-10 minutes that i was at 42 GH/s  Grin But it slowly started to go down Undecided  currently it is at 25 gh/s and i want to know why, is it because its hot, or is it something else, please help me i want to get my full 60GH/s worth while keeping it cool

What are you using as a controller?   That is a important thing.   Also what command are you using? If you are running command line with them.

We need to know more about your setup.

On ebay there were a was at least one seller selling U3 power adapters.  It might be a little high compared to buying one without bragging run's a U3.  Also on forums there was some that sold wires that turn regular PSU's into having multiple adapters on it.

My biggest thing I would warn anyone who talks about U3's.  Is make sure you have something in mind for automation.  If not babysitting them becomes a pain and is not fun.

Having 220/240 also saves you on PSU's for S7.  You are able to get some nice server PSU's including the bitmain ones.  And they are a heck of a lot cheaper then a ATX EVGA 1600.  Were talking like less than 1/2.

If you know your electricity you can get a decent idea of what running for a month will cost.  Biggest mistake make sure to include any fee's or taxes.  Getting it from a previous months bill is best, also know if you are based on tiers or not.
2637  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s7 small farm almost free electricity profitable? on: January 24, 2016, 06:30:25 AM
I have  S5, S5+, SP20, Neptunes and C1 for sale here in Venezuela. Immediate delivery. 0 wait. PM if you are interested.

At first I thought if electricity is free then it's %100 chance of profit but then I see this message. If you have mining equipment in Venezuela and you try to sell I think it's not that profitable to mine at all. Selling equipment make you more profit.
I think if OP is serious about that he should try with smaller equipment first and see the income as notlist3d said.

If "free" it really is a huge deal.  To be able to pick gear spead over efficiency.  It really is as close to guaranteed in bitcoin as it comes, as you can run forever (depends on miner some last longer then others).

The only thing is things such as value you have no control.  So if bitcoin takes a downturn and you bought before it.... even free could lose money.  But free have a huge step up.
2638  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: January 24, 2016, 06:27:04 AM
I bought 2 S7 B9 and now am awaiting arrival of said miners. However, I'm having a buyer's remorse. I think I should've kept my btc instead. Bitcoin price will rocket up this year, this much is certain. Mining is always a losing game due to diff rocketing up even more than price. We're all playing a fool's game. The only people guaranteed to profit are the Chinese factories and factory owners. Why are we so stupid???

But if the price of BTC doesn't sky rocket or if it stays the same or goes down, your miner will be worth something at least.

That is the thing if you use it and bought something and it goes down... you might get a better deal.  Part of this is luck and part of this is news, we have had some crap news in last month.  Cryptsy and dev who wanted to leave with a bang.

So you can never predict what will happen for sure.  I think long term holding it will go up.  But how much and when.... not sure on that.
2639  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Jan 13 to Jan 27 picks are closed! on: January 24, 2016, 06:21:25 AM
Bitcoinwisdom is showing +7% but NextDifficulty is showing +2.5%

Which is correct?

both kind of

the real time right now is 2.5% and if we do all 144 block days we will be right near 2.5

the future prediction  of 7.5% is true if we continue to rip 170 block days  the 7.5 will come true.

so 2.5 to 7.5 is the range of possibility   based on all 144 block days from now on or all 170 block days .

I really would love to see under 5 just as I like that number much better.   2.5 I would consider a serious win compared to changes lately.  I feel we likely will be closer to the 7 though, even though I don't like it as much.

Bit wisdom is down a little:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    113,354,299,801
Estimated Next Difficulty:    121,106,223,373 (+6.84%)
Adjust time:    After 385 Blocks, About 2.4 days
Hashrate(?):    916,733,918 GH/s

If I understand things correctly, Bitcoinboy is the one releasing payments. Marco provides funding from Bit-X. So now we wait for Bitcoinboy to get back online.

I have access to funds.

Hi all! This campaign might undergo a change in the next few weeks. Fixed pay has not been decided upon as of now but it is still an option.

Looks like payments are going out.  Thanks as always both Marco and Bitcoinboy.

Just looking at bot's payout's I really don't think fixed is way to go we have a huge gap between those like me who go over limit every time due to time spent on board.  And some with a few posts.

What sort of changes do you have in mind that will be changing?
