What does that mean?  Huh

First thing that comes to my mind is Hump Day! Cheesy

I think another way to increase entropy is to shuffle between draws.

That PDF I linked says each reshuffle adds 46 IIRC, Its a interesting read but beyond me.
2643  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 15, 2021, 04:19:19 AM
Interesting Idea as long as security didn't make a change if they decided to inspect. Lol

Old trick from the punch-card days: Put the cards in the order you want then draw a diagonal line on the side of the deck. Then you can shuffle the cards (in fact, it's preferable to disguise the line) and can put them back into order later.

I've seen hollerith code stacks that had lines on them like that and never knew why!

Thanks for the info man, sometimes simple solutions are best.

Although you couldn't really use that deck of cards without getting bagged for a marked deck Lol
2644  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 15, 2021, 03:40:30 AM
You know... as a fellow card player.  A deck of cards is one of the great analogies to a bitcoin key.  In fact a (well) shuffled deck dealt out offers 232 bits of entropy.  Just a few bits shy of a 24 word seed!  It can actually produce a 21 word seed.

But people do not realize how fantastically many possible combinations of a deck of card has (52! or ~8e67) In fact, did you know that it is EXTREMELY unlikely that a properly shuffled deck will repeat a sequence ever dealt from another properly shuffled deck?  As in, ever?

For fun I actually dealt this sequence from this deck of bicycle cards sitting next to me:

6h9sQd2c5hAd4c7hTsKd3c8sJdAc4h7c9hQs2d5c8hJsTdKc3h6s9dQc2h5s8dJcAh4s7dTcKh3s6d9 cQh2s5d8cJhAs4d7sThKs3d6c
-or-
6♥ 9♠ Q♦ 2♣ 5♥ A♦ 4♣ 7♥ T♠ K♦ 3♣ 8♠ J♦ A♣ 4♥ 7♣ 9♥ Q♠ 2♦ 5♣ 8♥ J♠ T♦ K♣ 3♥ 6♠ 9♦ Q♣ 2♥ 5♠ 8♦ J♣ A♥ 4♠ 7♦ T♣ K♥ 3♠ 6♦ 9♣ Q♥ 2♠ 5♦ 8♣ J♥ A♠ 4♦ 7♠ T♥ K♠ 3♦ 6♣
-or-
then viable coral multiply puppy inquiry clap camera rebel smile fish tackle pull pledge regular embark session inner select knock furnace

The first address in the BIP44 sequence would be 12hZ1awWPMo4tGfYeHqZL2bhJr3DRafsqK (or bc1qpfaa7ms34k42jwl8eymdnxxcm2hug7d35dvp3q if you want to save on fees).  You can use this seed along with the password I made you!

If one were traveling to another place and needed a way to transport a private key in a very inconspicuous way one could just have a deck of cards in their luggage in a specific order.  And it would have just as much randomness as a 21 word seed phrase.

Not suggesting people use cards to store their seeds.  Too fragile, and abstracted.  But still a possible thing.

Interesting Idea as long as security didn't make a change if they decided to inspect. Lol

The math is beyond me so I did a google and found this.

Quote
For completely randomized decks, pn = 1/Ω with n ∈ {1, . . . , Ω} and Ω = 52!, the total
number of possible configurations. Thus, Srandom = log2 52! = 225.581.

And

Quote
a full deck of cards provides 225.58 bits of entropy −52! combinations =log2(52!) bits of entropy.

https://crypto.stackexchange.com/questions/41886/entropy-measurement-from-shuffled-cards

So I'm just wondering where you found 232 bits of entropy?

Either way its damn tough to crack so should be a good way to transfer a key as long as no one knows and your going to move the funds as soon as you get where your going. Interesting thought. You could increase with the jokers and rules card as well.Smiley
2645  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 15, 2021, 01:20:39 AM
The solution is simple: Get your head frozen and have this tattoed on your forehead:

In this brain is the seed code for 10btc. Restore me to life and it is yours.

Then when bitcoin will buy entire planets whole civilizations will devote their best scientists to reviving your sorry ass. And when you are revived you give them the 10btc wallet code...

Then walk out with your 100btc wallet code still in your head. And into a bright new future.

It's pretty much foolproof: If bitcoin craters then who wants to be alive for that. And if the world is a crapsack world you just kill yourself again.

Woah woah! Lets not go overboard!

There's always gonna be Hookers and Blow to live for!

Just have to suffer through no Lambo's!

Not sure why but I really liked seeing this price. Smiley

7=a1m'9?T7G0w5q{^QetXyV08^y7Tk4-

That password has 167 bits of entropy.  It would be practically impossible to guess.  Also practically impossible to remember.

Good idea for a password.  I am going to use that one, especially since it's so solid.

Great Idea!

I'll use it too and I'll never have to worry about forgetting it because its backed up right here!

BTW, I didn't get the term "SOMA" if someone is speaking "according to my SOMA".

what does the term "SOMA" stands for? has it something to do with the drug "SOMA" from the book "Brave New World"?

Hueristic, not much has changed, certainly not your luck or timing with this fickle coin  Cheesy
I've been semi/mostly-retired and living frugally, other than blowing wads of money on RC cars after a 30 year hiatus.  Where do the days go?

Shit, Lol you got that right!

Glad to hear your getting some retirement time in.

Time is catching us all. Grin

Looks like you have most of the forum behind you by the looks of the merits. I'll yield to the wisdom of the masses.

Don't let the thread bully you, Fight for your right to be wrong! Wink
2653  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 08:25:11 PM
It simply self manages itself will not have to be addressed again. The market sets the size, as long as you can create parameters that restrict the size from changing from attacks then this shouldn't be an issue as you can economically restrict expansion with a EXPONENTIAL fee schedule.

But as stated, Bitcoin already coped fine with blocks of 1MB and below (Luke JR may disagree of course) so what benefit could there be other than to allow for larger blocks? That's all I'm saying. I don't want to badger you about this. It seems fundamentally I'd find your proposal acceptable. I would say that unpredictable fees are a much bigger issue than high fees. In fact, unpredictable fees exacerbate high fees since if you want to be sure you get in a block in a timely manner, you not only have to use a fee that's good currently but you have to add extra in case of a surge. And if everyone is doing the same, that may not even be enough.

You keep wanting me to say we need larger blocks so as to trigger the thread again and that is not what I'm saying.

Variable blocks pegged to market demand will go up or down as needed but in a manner that costs at an exponential rate to increase and this will stop any spam attack.

Nothing in my statements would create unpredictable anything, there is ZERO chance in the question I was proposing.

I also am just wondering about this in an academic fashion as I really don't care if the block size never changes.

I will not be answering any more questions that look like your trying to bait me into making your arguments for you.

You keep repeating the bolded when I have already addressed that many times in my last posts and I know your not that stupid so I can only think you are being disingenuous.
2654  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 04:29:46 PM

Dynamic size can also result in smaller blocksize and I'm not sure all those people yelling big blocker are grasping that.

But I wouldn't want to put words into your mouth (and apologies if I have). What do *you* see as the benefits of a dynamic block size limit?

It simply self manages itself will not have to be addressed again. The market sets the size, as long as you can create parameters that restrict the size from changing from attacks then this shouldn't be an issue as you can economically restrict expansion with a EXPONENTIAL fee schedule.
2655  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 03:18:51 PM
...
Hueristic was asking about raising the block size limit, ...

Actually I wanted to discuss why dynamic blocksize  was never getting discussed as I thought it was safe to have an adult conversation on the subject but I was apparently wrong.

I never said a damn thing about specifically raising it, it should be acedemic to create an algo that will work with market forces for it to manage itself.

Dynamic size can also result in smaller blocksize and I'm not sure all those people yelling big blocker are grasping that.

But I'm done trying to work out the pros and cons as its apparent the childish flaming is still just under the surface.

It's a classic... learned a lot from those guys, about FF, life, and love. And then there's also Raffi.

You want to make the winner's trophy a homage to your high school girlfriend?

Should have just handed Marshawn the ball. Smiley

Raffi was a fucking trip, lol put taco to shame. Smiley

...

With what I was describing it could be set in the variables that 100mb blocks would be completely cost prohibited. Did you even read what I wrote? Maybe I should flow chart it for you so that you can grasp the variables that would make such a system live within a specific set of rules all of which are taken from a previous set of rules that already exist and therefore follow a similar trend without having the ability to change rapidly.

Nevermind after reading the responses its apparent this subject still can't be talked about without insults flying around.
2658  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 02:06:19 AM
Why not a adjustable limit based on a previous median timeframe?

Because on top of compromising decentralization for usability (the degree of compromise can and has been argued to death, and no there's no free lunch here) it introduces new attack vectors

Could you link that explanation for me, I'm not aware of how compromising decentralization could happen in this instance?

I'm usually pretty good at identifying attack vectors but I don't see the one here.
2659  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 01:58:35 AM
... whatever scheme you think you can up with imposing a new limit ( a dynamic limit is the same problem which you seem to have ignored since the dynamic limit also needs to have it's own limit) you'll need a hard fork for that .... and after the bigblockers contaminated all further possibilities of hard-forks with disingenuity and arguing in bad faith that split the development and mining community, I can confidently say bitcoin, as we know it, will never have another hard fork, i.e. any fork will be forked off by opportunists into new coins and the un-hardforked coin will always be known as bitcoin.

Well I didn't ignore it I said it could be set on a median which would depend on a timeframe.

IOW lets say we wanted to make the timeframe the last month so whats that like 4300 blocks and we take the average transaction size from those and that is the base number and then we decide on a bounding range to allow for upper limit before the fee kicks in. The range of the blocksize would stabalize with the market forces setting it. It could shrink as well if the transaction count goes down over the median timeframe. All the variable could be set by the devs as they have a much better understanding of the underlying structure. but this is a pretty academic approach that I'm not wondering why I've never seen it discussed. but to be fair I stayed out of all the block threads because it was just a fucking nightmare to follow and I didn't feel competent enough to have an opinion on the subject.

AFA never having another hard fork, I agree with you if something cannot be soft forked in then its DOA. And that is bitcoins biggest failure as far as I can see, there are far too many that put their own priorities before the networks. Its become like government where nothing can get done without all out war.

At least I got a nice ounce of sour diesel!   Cheesy

Dude, I was just thinking of you earlier!

I was remembering why I had coins on paxos and it was because I noticed binance coin had pumped (so i went on there and scrapped up what was left) and I thought oh yeah Globb0 was playing with that one, hope he still has a bag. Smiley

Haha, I'm old...I had to google what sour diesel was!
