2641  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin Unlimited" is not convergent due to the "excessive block depth" idea on: December 24, 2015, 09:42:39 PM
johnny1000 thanks for starting a thread on Bitcoin Unlimited. I too am still reading all the relevant posts I can find. It appears to be run by Andrew Stone (theZerg) with help from less than 20 others and is XT code with BIP 101 removed. I would like to hear gmaxwell weigh in. Roger Ver added Bitcoin Unlimited to the list of full node wallets at www.bitcoin.com so expect more discussion.
2642  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 23, 2015, 08:01:13 PM
I am seriously considering purchasing either a trezor or keepkey within the next month and would like to make a sound judgment. I'm leaning towards the trezor because i really don't feel like the bigger screen and little bit nicer build quality isn't worth $140. I could even buy a back up trezor with it.  Grin. I have two questions regarding the Trezor. Is there a specific reason why you choose the white one and what wallet do you use in conjunction with your trezor for what reason? Do you use the general Mytrezor webwallet, Electrum, ect.. for all your personal funds.
Thank you!  Smiley

Color is just personal preference. I like black because it looks cool and makes the screen pop but really all colors look fine. I started off using the myTrezor.com web wallet but often use Electrum now. Also Mycelium for Android. Remember if you set up hidden wallets with pass phrases you will not see the hidden wallets unless you use myTrezor.com, Coinprism, Encompass, Electrum or Mycelium. I like your idea of buying a backup.

The whit is just kinda the classic so it let me see what a lot of users are getting.  There is the other color's out there and it really is as said above personal preference.  No matter which one you get you still get the same great features.

On myTrezor wallet I started off with site I wanted to test and use it first.  It works really well.  You can have multiple accounts on it, so you can easily have BTC in different addresses for different purposes which for me is a big thing.   I like to keep my selling and mining, and signature different accounts.   I just have really started to use it below you can see a lot of the wallet from myTrezor site it allows a lot as far as a wallet to start with, very easy to navigate.  And comes with features such as signing and priority sending (send with higher fee so faster).   So really does have a lot.  I do plan on other wallets testing:

Also they have a really good comparison to other wallet types: http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-faq/_images/compared_to.png .  If interested in TREZOR I suggest looking at it, I didn't post it as there is a LOT of features and would take up a lot of space which is good.

Again if anyone out there is using TREZOR I would love to hear your favorite features, how you feel about using, etc.   I feel users who have used long term really can contribute a lot in this type of thread.

I do not think I have ever seen a thread with someone complaining that "I hate my Trezor!" Sure you can buy a Ledger HW.1 for $20 and it will get the job done but Ledger products do not seem to inspire the passion that Trezor does. The only other hardware wallet I use routinely besides Trezor now is my Case. Just scan a QR code, key in the amount, swipe your finger and bitcoin is on the way. Definitely wins points for coolness.
2643  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 23, 2015, 07:46:36 PM
Just a heads up to avoid a potential problem. Some users have been using Trezor to receive hundreds of payments a day from cloud mining sites. Trezor was not designed to handle that amount of daily inputs and will definitely slow down. You can read the post on reddit advising of the problem.

The lolcows are unusually agitated since Core's most recent show of strength.

Behold here Peter R Rizun, Managing Editor of the Ledger academic publication, openly lobbying Gavin to.... you guessed it..... censor the contributors out of the Bitcoin Core repo.

This screenshot from the Capacity Increases page at Github shows more lobbying for Peter R sure to be ignored:

2646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Waiting for the day when Amazon & eBay accept BTC on: December 22, 2015, 07:55:08 PM
Anytime I need something on Amazon I just buy using my Purse.io account. With Purse Instant I get a 5% discount and free Amazon Prime two day shipping. Never had a problem, I outlined the process with screenshots here. If you are going to buy from Amazon anyways why not use bitcoin and get free two day shipping:)
2647  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 22, 2015, 03:32:46 AM
Thank you for posting this. I have been quite interested in a trezor for a while now. I am just a little confused by the seed words. Since preferably, if I did acquire a trezor, I would like to use it with Multibit HD. If a create a new Multibit HD wallet, I would given a set of seeds for Multibit HD wallet itself in order to recover it. Then, the Trezor device itselfs also shows seed words. How would I restore my wallet? Is the seed words associated with the Trezor in conjunction with the MyTrezor webwallet itself ? I am little confused since I thought this device doesn't store bitcoins, it only keeps processes transactions in device to keep your bitcoins safe, even on a infected computer. Could you clarify this?

MultibitHD is not the best wallet to use with Trezor as it does not support passphrase protected wallets. Electrum and Mycelium do, as does myTrezor.com. Your choice though.

2648  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 22, 2015, 03:23:15 AM
what happen if i forgot the seed words? and does trezor offer warranty if there's any problem or abnormal things happen on the hardware?

Trezor makes it very clear that you would be SOL if you forgot your seed. The order is also crucial. So don't do it. There is a warranty of course but most folks who have enough bitcoin to warrant a Trezor buy a spare for backup.

I have used all of the hardware wallets on the market except for KeepKey. I refuse to pay $240 for a Trezor clone that cannot even be used with Android. It is pretty though.

I find I use my Case wallet as much as my Trezor, just because the thing is so convenient to carry around and use.
2649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to store an extremely high amount of money in Bitcoin safely ? on: December 21, 2015, 09:37:17 PM
Why not Armory?

Armory cold storage is very good. It is no more secure than Trezor but it is more private. The problem is you need to run two computers to use cold storage in Armory, one always kept offline. The Armory devs keep talking about Trezor support but will believe it when I see it.
2650  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How much would you trust trezor? on: December 21, 2015, 02:12:21 PM
I am sorry, but I do not see the point in wasting all the money on tenzor.  It is secure and i agree with the reviews here, but there is a cheaper way that is just as secure as wasting all this money.  Maybe down the line where the attacks on Bitcoin are more common and there are new methods of stealing it, trezor may be worth the investment, but not a this time.

Attacks are already common. Have your bitcoin stolen by malware and you would change your mind right quick. If you can live without the screen Ledger sells the HW.1 for less than $20 shipped.
2651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to store an extremely high amount of money in Bitcoin safely ? on: December 20, 2015, 06:54:57 PM
I've been reading about  Deep Cold Storages on wikipedia here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Cold_storage

It seems to be way more secure than an ordinary Cold Storage as my private key and everything would be stored in a safety deposit box which you must have to be able sending funds out from the wallet. So basically, without that box you can do nothing to the coins being inside my wallet.

I'm looking forward for the safest solution(money doesn't matter) as I need to store serious money safely there.

Thanks for your help...

Consider buying two Trezor bitcoin hardware wallets, one to use and one as a spare in case of loss. When you set up your Trezor you will be given a list of 24 words (order is important) called your seed. Trezor gives you a nice card to write your seed down on. Don't print it or save to your computer in any way. You will also be prompted to set up PIN protection. Unless you have a very good memory store the PIN and any passphrases in the safety deposit box also. Paper wallets are another option but bitcoin paper wallets are not safer than hardware wallets.
2652  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will you short if price goes to the moon? on: December 19, 2015, 08:22:11 PM
It sounds like you have no experience opening and managing short positions. No problem there, we all have to start somewhere. You should paper trade for a few months until you prove to yourself you have a chance of making a profit.
2653  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin - Wordpress on: December 19, 2015, 05:08:45 PM
I did something similar for a friend's eshop and i used woocommerce + Bitcoin Payments for WooCommerce (http://www.bitcoinway.com/products/)

It uses electrum wallet only, but no fees at all.

It is 100% free but there is a professional edition, too, with some extra settings.

Hope you find this helpful. Good luck!

Recommend to avoid Bitcoin Payments for WooCommerce plugin. Support is poor and the plugin does not work with the latest version of Electrum. If you want to accept payment direct to your bitcoin wallet CoinSimple works. Prefer a payment processor? Take a good look at Coinify. They are better to work with than Bitpay.

Why is Coinify better to work with than Bitpay? Why does the WooCommerce plugin not work with Electrum? Are they doing something strange with that plugin?

I have used both and my experience is that Coinify customer service is better than Bitpay. I also prefer their plugin to Bitpay's. Bitcoin Payments for WooCommerce plugin does not work with latest Electrum version and customer service is poor. Use whatever you like and discover for yourself.
2654  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 01:30:35 AM
problem
chrome extension
hacker makes a extension that looks the same but says "error on device, please type in backup seed to restore device"

... and then your coins are gone..

trezor/keepkey still havnt solved this very easy exploit

Any competent Trezor owner knows that the restore seed is entered in random order as requested by messages on the Trezor screen.

Just ignore him, obvious he has never owned a Trezor but likes to trash talk.

2656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best places to advertise a Bitcoin related product or service... on: December 16, 2015, 08:37:20 PM
Start your own website and put up self hosted banners. Ad networks either bitcoin based or Adsense will probably not reach your readers as anyone into bitcoin is savvy enough to have AdBlocker or similar installed in their web browser. If you check my main site you can have all the adblockers you please turned on and my banner ads are still served.
2657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best way for small online shop to accept Bitcoin? on: December 16, 2015, 06:00:52 PM
Hi, I run a couple of online shops and manage a few others for clients - they all use WooCommerce running on Wordpress and are fairly small. They all make 1 or 2 sales a day, so not major traffic, although transaction values are quite high as they sell high value items.

What would be the easiest way for me to integrate Bitcoin payment into these businesses? I have seen various services such as BitPay but don't know if any of them are recommended over any others. In some ways it seems like these guys act as a "middle man" which kind of defeats some of the benefits of using Bitcoin, if you ask me - is there a simple way to set it up without having to use such a service? (A plugin or something similar which simply works out the currency conversion and then connects to my wallet).

Any ideas or help appreciated.

If you are already using WooCommerce you can skip the middleman like Bitpay and accept bitcoin direct to your wallet using the CoinSimple free plugin.
2658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin user adoption is horrible - here is why: on: December 16, 2015, 05:36:30 PM
Ingenico has already partnered with Bitpay to allow bitcoin payment at any of its point of sale terminals: http://ingenico.us/press-and-publications/media-library/videos/partner-videos/bitpay-inc.html

When making a purchase with bitcoin instead of credit card the terminal displays a QR code with the corresponding bitcoin amount, which the customer then scans to pay with his mobile phone. We need more companies who make POS terminals adopting this approach!
2659  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How much would you trust trezor? on: December 16, 2015, 04:44:35 PM
The vulnerability of trezor is social engineering / potential inside job.

I`ve watched their security documentation, and it blows my mind that they download updates into the trezor device constantly. This is a huge attack vector.

Banks have faraday shielded bunker server rooms, where they keep the digital money. Trezor has a good offline security, but it mixes it with careless online patch downloads.

Yes the patches are signed by their key, but all it takes is a social engineering attack or an inside job to get hold of those and then millions of people will be exposed to bitcoin theft risk.

I might trust trezor's device, because if I buy it now, and later some error gets figured out, then I can quickly buy a new one, and if it turns out its safe then time will test it.

But if it constantly downloads updates to it, then the risk of theft is gigantic.

Sorry this is the main reason I dont use hardware wallets Smiley

You obviously do not own a Trezor. They have not done a firmware update in five months. The latest 1.3.4 firmware was released back in August. Anyone concerned about security of firmware updates can browse https://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-faq/threats.html and https://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-user/updatingfirmware.html
2660  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Cold Storage or Multisig? on: December 16, 2015, 04:06:01 PM
Completely new to this. Haven't even downloaded the client. Just trying to get a handle on how this all works.

So which way is recommended? Which way is more secure?

If I install electrum on a computer that is online all the time and use a wallet from there, how likely is it that I can be hacked?

Thanks

It happens all the time even with password protected wallets. There is malware that specializes in searching out wallet.dat files and uses a keylogger to grab your password. You could start out right by using a hardware wallet, which keeps the private keys to your bitcoin safely offline. Ledger sells the HW.1 for less than $20 and there are other options like Trezor. Here is a review of the best bitcoin hardware wallets of this year.
