You know exactly where I'm coming from.
The local authorities can be.. . difficult.
That sounds like a pretty tough place. Technically I need a Lambo like I need a hole in my head: I have a 10 mile commute to work and either the Porsche or the Prius can do it quite easily. It's just that I have more of a smile on my face with the Porsche.

If my commute was an hour to drive 20 miles with bumper to bumper I'd drive the crap box all the time. Or have a driver and said Maybach.

I now have this image in my head of a desert night, sky all black and starry and a big bonfire surrounded by a ring of Lambos. It's the meeting of the Bitcoin tribe, they have come to pay homage to the Bitcoin God....

Ok, time for bed.

Ok, looks like the Diablo might be a better fit for me than the Countach. When bitcoin hits the right level someday I'll buy one.

No problem. This is a weird issue, and I enjoy a bit of a challenge. No guarantee I can fix it of course, but I will give it a shot.

It's down .2%?Huh??

Fuck, time to look at Trabants.

Actually I'm wondering if Vi is voltage in. If so 10.5v is a very low amount from a 12v supply. Yeah, check the voltage on the supplies.
2666  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 hashing at low speed (0.01 BTC REWARD) on: November 05, 2017, 10:15:37 PM
What is the voltage reading at the miner on your 12v lines? I've noticed that Avalon will throttle down chips if the DC voltage starts dropping due to power supplies being overloaded. Do you have very manly supplies running to this thing, and are the plugs warm to the touch?
Hi,
I am using 2x700w platinum PSu's.

and are the plugs warm to the touch
No, the plugs aren't warm to the touch.
And as for the voltage reading, i am not sure where to find it...but believe it could be this?:

Thanks a lot!!!
That might not quite be enough, have you tried running it with just one side powered? That can tell you quickly if a side is down.

Got a volt-meter? if so can you check the voltage on the 12v line from each power supply (you can check on the 4 pin connector, the 8 pin one, places like that). See if it's 12v or less. As a point of reference, my stock A6 will run at about 70-80% of speed when the voltage rail is down to 11.5v.

Meantime I called my dad and asked him to check with his Porsche buddies on which Lambos would be good to have in the driveway. [...]

A Countach will complement the 959 just fine.
I like that, I'm a classic kind of guy and can handle the syncing of six carburetors, going to a dozen shouldn't be that much more difficult.....

Meantime I called my dad and asked him to check with his Porsche buddies on which Lambos would be good to have in the driveway. He seemed kind of grumpy, maybe because I told him to buy damn bitcoins 3 years ago.

Ah well.
2669  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 6 BRICKED how to fix!!??? on: November 05, 2017, 07:27:13 PM
So the problem is in the bridge board. Interesting. Question, can you open one and see if either of the ribbon cables going to the bridge board are burned?

I'm sure there are people on this forum that have spent hundreds of bitcoins on things like PC graphics cards back in the day.

Personally, my goal was to one day have enough btc that I could take out my original investment +20% profit in fiat value, and still have 90% left in btc.

Well I successfully did that. But had I left my original investment in it would have nearly doubled in fiat value again. C'est la vie.

The way I deal with this is to understand simply that I made the best decisions at the time with the information I had at the time. No regrets dude, otherwise I would still be kicking myself for dumping all my apple stock in the early 90's when they were totally fuking stupid.

All the same, there will be a drop at some point, and it will be big. At least in dollar terms. I hope everyone has a plan prepared.

About "for every rise there is a fall", well, that was Newton. With Bitcoin we are now past Einstein and there are new laws at play. In Bitcoin mathematics, there are only the (+) and (*) operators and no negative numbers. LOL!

Oh Bitcoin may fall. As it's zinging through space long past the moon it might eventually hit some star somewhere and "fall"....

I'd put the odds at 50% of this happening before the heat death of the universe. We'll have to wait and see....

Yep. Another morning, another ATH. Still have to get up and torque bolts. :-)

Hi! Just found this thread, and yes the unit is in the shop here for review. Hopefully I'll be able to add some knowledge as to what causes Avalons to go bad and see if there are ways to fix them.

In this case, the unit apparently was sold to the current owner, who needed one of the AUC (UART to USB) connectors. Once procured, the unit failed to hash. The internal daughterboard was replaced and the right side board would come up intermittently. At that time it was noted that the left side ribbon cable servicing the left side board was burned (will post a pic at some point), and when the good cable was swapped to the left side the unit stopped working completely.

However the unit does report the right side board, just with a temp of 85c all the time, and a voltage reading on the +12 line of 3v. Both of which I do not think are true :-)

What I think is going on is this:
1) A short to +12 on a signal line on the left side developed and faulted the first daughter board. Will see if I can identify the component.
2) Same happened to the second daughter board when the ribbon cable was plugged in again. Drat.

I'll see if I can isolate which component is the a/d converter (doubtful) or the i2c interface (possible) on the daughter board. I doubt there are schematics out there but one can always hope. If the lines feed straight into the MCU on that board it could be a problem since although that processor could be swapped they probably have an IPL loader routine that allows it to be reflashed. We'll see.

Second line of attack will be to review the left side and see if there's any components obviously out on that side and where the short to ground might be. It could be in the sensor to detect +12 rail voltage, if that went to shorted I could see enough current going through to burn the wire.

Interesting problem.... If anyone has a contact at Cannan or knows where parts can be procured drop me a line.

That is like watching gasoline being dumped on a bonfire....

Ok, today is the day I chose not to dump everything because I am nuts. Let the games begin.

any advice where i could get a couple powered hubs at a decent price? amazon and best buy didn't really have anything i trusted for anything i could afford. Sad
Ebay used to have a bunch being sold for pennies on the dollar, but to be honest just stick a few in the sides of your laptop and use them to warm your hands.

I wonder though what the minimum efficiency is for a profitable miner. S9's used to be it, but others may be coming back into vogue. (Where is that Block Erupter.....)
2678  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 04, 2017, 09:57:00 PM
just hooked up my old asicminer block erupter USB sticks and started running them again. pretty sure i won't make a cent, but screw it.

course two hubs seemed to have died on me... 13 sticks not running. Sad

this, of course, means the price will tank.
Indeed. People are sending me A6's for repair. Actually pretty nice little miners, quiet and respectable.

$7500 a bitcoin is just.... wow.

Countach
Ok, that seems to be a reasonable default. I like the style, could never fit in the thing.

However since classic cars are variable, maybe a new Hurican could be a better solid benchmark. And then we can all show up at a dealership at the same time and buy every one in the state.

Because we CAN!

Still, I'm more of a Porsche man myself, but if I ever get to the point of having a driver I'd probably go for a Maybach. Had a friend who was homeless for awhile and had to live in his Maybach, still nicer than my house....

So as Bitcoin rolls past 7350 with a ho hum, I think it's time to define some standards.

For example: What is the standard Lamborghini that people put in their portfolios? The LP500S is a great car, but kind of rare-ish and wonky. Would the Diablo be a standard unit of measurement, or something else?
