for the record, mtgox->dwolla is now up to (at least) 7 business days and still hasn't cleared, my last transaction went through in 6

I have 3 withdrawals @ 9 days, 14 days, and 17 (about to go on 18) days.

"21" is the new "6".
well, it's possibly because I withdraw after every trade now basically.  so, the last one that went through was for about $40.  (your totals are probably higher)

this one I've been waiting 7 days on is approx. $60 I believe.. oh, and there are another 6 or 7 queued

2664  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Post Your Mining Rig Efficiency on: June 13, 2012, 08:36:46 AM
why is everyone talking about how much watts such and such pulls?  that isn't most efficient

most efficient is what makes you the most money

sometimes i get the feeling that at least a good quarter of the people here get x amt of dollars a month and think theyre making a profit, even though their electricity costs + equipment depreciation is 2x

Because as a GUIDELINE, 10MHs/W will be more profitable than 1MHs/W. I'm sure you know this, so please stop nitpicking.

what?

90% or more of the posts in this thread are listing better efficiency by lowering overall output

where is this guideline you speak of?

I am pretty sure the guideline he speaks of is common sense.   10 is better then 1 if your looking for more of something.
what?

10 apples is better than 1 apple, yes.

So one bawzz super elite 200wpm typist costs you $20 an hour to employ as a medical transcriptionist... you can outsource to India and employ four 100wpm typists there for same price.    first is more efficient, second gets you more money
2665  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: June 13, 2012, 08:26:55 AM
Because ASIC is a GIANT leap with almost NO marginal cost after initial purchase. CPU to GPU was a giant leap as well, but GPU's were still limited by availability and electrical costs/infrastructure. FPGA is really an incremental change from GPU because they are not cheap unless they are produced in HUGE quantity and their only advantage over GPU is power consumption.

ASIC is an exponential leap in hash rate, power consumption AND eventually cost.

How many people built GPU farms over 10 GH ? not many because it typically required new home wiring, heat dissipation and a high monthly electrical cost in the face of an uncertain and volatile bitcoin value. plopping down 10k to build a big GPU farm took alot of thought, knowledge and risk among other things so it was inherently self limiting.

ASICs are basically plug and play so there is no technological limit for the potential miner. They have almost no electrical cost so no new electrical infrastructure is needed. They have almost zero operational cost once deployed so again, no limiting factor there.

The ONLY barrier to entry is the initial capital investment, but we ALL know the price for these will drop dramatically after the initial development, once again, how the hell do the early adopters ever get their money back?

Unless as someone suggested that the developers pay $1million and then mine until they get their money back and then start selling the ASICs for 1k or something.
they don't get their money back.  just like the ppl buying 7970's exclusively for mining.

it makes no sense, as it'd require an extremely bullish stance on bitcoins.... and, then, you'd be better off just buying them with that cash.

but, the thing is, lots of people treat this as a hobby
2666  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL Single or ASUS 7970? on: June 13, 2012, 01:53:28 AM
I am about to get paid enough to purchase a BFL single or 7970, but I need a second opinion. I know the drawback of bfl is the the wait of 50+ days, from what I hear; 7970 = high costs of energy ($0.13/kw).

The energy costs do not personally bother me, because I do BTC mining more for fun instead of profit, but profit is good.

grab 3 5870's instead and keep the change
2667  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 5970 Hash Rate Drops Hours Into Mining... on: June 13, 2012, 01:50:10 AM
my guess is that it's overheating and throttling itself

mine was going about 100mhash/s when the gpu was at 102oC

100mhash/s on a 5970?

yah, more like 60 actually, for gpu 0

gpu 1 was going around 150
2668  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Problems running 3+ GPUs (bounty) on: June 13, 2012, 12:28:05 AM
that surely points to the PSU then ?

What wattage is it ? have you got another one you can try ?
I doubt yochdog would underpower his rigs.

But the crashing is odd, I've had 6 on 1 rig before, all on extenders, and 1 on a PCI to PCIe adapter.

I'd be interested in what the BSOD says. 11.6 with SDK 2.5 should be stable.

I will try this.

The rig I am testing with has a 1200W PSU for 2x 5970, and whatever random card I throw in the 3rd slot.  I don't think power is the issue.

i have 1200W PSU also, have you tried drawing some power off MB?

dark and hard to see, but

(yes it's dusty also)

2671  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 - VRM Temps @ 105C? on: June 13, 2012, 12:09:17 AM
VRM temps are going to be higher than core temps. 105 is actually pretty normal.

Having said that, I don't like them that high, esp for 24/7 mining. @860,300, there's no reason you can't undervolt. Try 0.95-1.00 range. Puts way less stress on the VRMs.

*scratch* I have to drop card to 740-150 to be stable at 0.95v

Each card is different. Even going to 1.05 for 840,300 will still lower VRM temps.

oh, for curiosity sake... why does everyone use 300mem?  for me, on SDK 2.1, 840/300 w/ 256 worksize is about .5% improvement over 840/150 w/ 128 worksize..
2672  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 - VRM Temps @ 105C? on: June 13, 2012, 12:06:59 AM
as for me...having 2*5970
1st - @840 1.049v - no more overclocking
2nd - @840 1.062 - no more (850 but at 1.075v)

each cooling system was tunned: old termalpads were replaced with new ones, MX-4 spot at termalpads/VRM, removed still backplate (now PCB is openned - no more heat air beatwean still backplate and PCB near VRM`s zone), and 3400 rpm 92mm fan blowing to the PCB VRM`s zone.
after that - 86 C.
It`s real to beat the 90C or lower.  Wink

PS 105C very bad - guaranted crash of DrMos Volterra in mounth or more.  Cry

well, at least someone has cards similar to mine then

after reading some of these posts, i thought i must have the worst 5970s in existance

2674  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 12, 2012, 02:19:09 PM
Mine are 1.05v that's "stock". Most 5970 need 1.125 or higher to get over 900mhz. 5870 stock voltage is 1.162

The vrms fry at that voltage the 5870 is 4 phase the 5970 is 3 phase there too much leakage and they overheat.

And learned and the 6990 has the vrm split better and better cooled not sandwiched in the middle.
How many 5970's do you have?

Three of mine are water-cooled and never go above 50oC, four of the GPUs can't reach 850/150, the other two become unstable past 850.

(in reply to: My 5970s run 900 core 300 memory stock voltage. The vrms stay just under 100c and the cores are 55c.  I get about 810 mhash per card. )

2675  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 10, 2012, 11:36:24 PM
Maybe Panama, Brazil or Hong-Kong etc. could be way better.

Definitely not Brazil!
Brazil might a good place to hide yourself if you're wanted by the police abroad (particularly if you're a leftist terrorist wanted for multiple murders), and even of that I wouldn't be 100% sure - if someone in the government sees an advantage for himself in turning you over, and there's nobody who would have an advantage in protecting you, then you'll likely be extradited.

Brazil is definitely not the place to hide your hard-earned money from predators, that's for sure. It's a tax hell, not a tax haven.

Malta is nice,  they make good offer for poker players from USA to establish residency there

2677  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 10, 2012, 10:59:20 PM
According to the guy who designed the 5970 the vrms are safe to 150c and throttle over 125c. That's an internal reading unrelated to what you see in gpuz or other monitors however.

The stock heats sinks are far far better than the artics. The TIM they use is the best money can buy.  I have 2 article 5970 xtreme colers in my desk drawer. They are crap for the vrm. The back vrm is adequately cooled and has enough mass and surface area. The front vrm heat sink is a thin plate no surface area or cooling. There a huge empty spot under the front fan that should have been used with a similar setup as the rear or a heat pipe but was poorly designed.

Add to that the fact that if you over tighten the gpu x plates with the artic you'll kill DVI out. The artics are essentially worthless.

I get 10-20 c cooler vrm and within 10 c core with the stock coolers.

My 5970s run 900 core 300 memory stock voltage. The vrms stay just under 100c and the cores are 55c.  I get about 810 mhash per card.

What is "stock voltage"?  I have 3 performance levels, the max is 1.05.  I know some BIOSes have 1.10 as "stock", there may be some others even higher.
2678  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 10, 2012, 01:58:52 PM
Hi I'm relatively new to Bitcoin Mining and was wondering if about 840 mhashes is good for a 5970?

I'm currently at 910 mhz core, and 375 mhz memory. Stock voltage. Cgminer reports voltage as being 1.050, so I believe that is stock? Or is that too high of a voltage?

Also with such a high clock with this hurt my card? Eg will it reduce the life of my card?

Thanks.

840mhash seems slow, for 910/375.  Probably using a crappy SDK.

I have no clue as to how you can run it stable at 910/375 @ 1.050v, either.  Only two GPUs out of 10 of mine can run stable at 850/150 @ 1.050v.  The rest are lower.

At 850/150, it gets 800mhash.

(well, I just noticed that your screenshot actually shows that you have increased your voltage past stock, which would explain the 910)

ed:  and your card wouldn't be running at 43.5o, either
2679  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / newegg 6870 + Dirt 3 + Deux EX for $129 on: June 10, 2012, 10:36:00 AM
well, if you don't mind waiting a month or two to get a mail-in rebate.

and if you want to waste more time, you can sell dirt 3 and deus ex on ebay for probably $20-$30 (maybe more? dunno)

which works out to about $105 for a card w/ hash rate similar to a 5830 (and like 5% more energy efficient)

it starts at 1PM PST, 8pm GMT
