2661  Other / Meta / Re: Should Bitcointalk remove ALL Butterfly Labs' advertisements off their site ??? on: November 04, 2013, 05:56:03 AM
This is taken from a different topic, but its still pretty relevant, let me highling a few things.

I'm confused why people keep bringing up the ad revenue as Theymos' "source of corruption". The forum's wallet is public, and you can see that those ad BTC aren't being spent, wouldn't he need to be benefiting from BFL's advertising payments in order for it to be corrupting him? Approximately 25% of the forum's ad revenue is split between the forum's 36+ Staff members. Looking at the last ad auction, had Inaba not bid, the person who would have got his spot bid .75 BTC less per spot than him. That x 3 slots = 2.25 BTC less that the Ad auction would have raised, had Inaba not recieved any slots. 25% of that would have been used for Mod Payments, split at least 36 ways. Do you really think that Theymos is being corrupted by the extra .015 BTC that Josh's ad purchase gave him? Something just doesn't add up on that front.

I was wrong about the percent, its a bit less than that, and also, that was months ago at a lower BTC price, so even less so relevant. The point is, I'd be willing to bet that rather than the extra few dollars that Inaba's ads generate, the reason BFL advertising is still allowed, is because theres no reason not to allow it. For the same reason Inaba hasn't received a scammer tag, is because BFL isn't a clear cut scam. I find it funny people are so gungho about censoring BFL, but should someone else be censored there is hell to pay.
2662  Other / Meta / Re: Some of the threads are not moderated properly... on: November 04, 2013, 05:09:58 AM
Its subjective as to what is removed and what stays, determined by the local mod of the section. Mods are given very basic guidelines, and then they detirmine the rules for their board. If they are tyranical, they get complaints and fired, if they are too soft, they get fired. As long as they stay consistent with their own definitions of what is to be removed and what isn't, thats how it works.

That being said, it is impossible for mods to search through every post in every thread. If you have a problem with a post, report it. There is far too many posts and threads for any person to go through in single day, nor do the moderators feel the need to watch everything. If I see stuff thats slightly off topic, or offensive (to a certain degree of course) I tend not to bother with it unless someone reports it.

What to take away from this, is "kinda on topic" is subjective. While if that post was made in Phantastisch's section, they may not do anything about it, because they see it as kind of on topic. However another moderator may have a different opinion, and see it as not on topic at all, and of those that don't see it as on topic, they may only remove it if you request it moved, or they may remove it without you asking, really up to the moderator themself.

*Puts BayAreaCoins in handcuffs* Sir, those snails are minors, you are under arrest for distribution of underage snail pornography. You have the right to remain silent when questioned, anything you say or do may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning, if you wish. If you decide to answer any questions now, without an attorney present, you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney.

2664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Asking to Record your palm print to withdraw Bitcoin - Vote on: November 04, 2013, 03:23:40 AM
While I do feel that its somewhat odd, at the same time, its not like they are collecting your palm scan and storing it on a federal database, and even if they did, you are paying with cash, how would they know who's palm it is? I'd imagine all it does is stores the palm print, and doesn't allow the same to use the ATM until they are allowed to do so again.

Now if you have to enter your name, and other personal information, as well as your palm print, thats an issue, but unless you have been finger/palm printed before, how would they know who you are?

That being said, its still a pretty stupid system, I'd just pay passing kids $5 to touch the machine for me. What prevents someone from getting a group of people (family or friends) and having them all touch it one after the other, to get their $3k limit with 20 different people. Those that want to launder are going to do so, and the current system wont stop anyone but the people who are unknowingly laundering.

Your poll seems to be missing Gentoo, so until that is fixed, I shall say, "Other"

2668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much to put a bitcoin flag TO DA MOON? on: November 03, 2013, 11:35:02 PM
Wouldn't you need to get a person there to plant the flag?
2669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much to put a bitcoin flag TO DA MOON? on: November 03, 2013, 10:50:39 PM
Well, the U.S is the only country that has ever put a man on the moon. The fact that it was done over 40 years ago, and no other country has felt the need to also do so, leads me to believe that its either very costly, or very hard to do.

I think we would be better off with something like local advertising, rather than putting a flag on the moon where only aliens will see it.  Smiley

Glad I could help you source another  Grin  Not a collector in silver bullion, but I thought I would pass along what I had found when looking around for info on that one.  I prefer older pre64 US coinage to the newly minted slabbed coins.

I like old coinage as well, but thats one of those things you can spend a few hundred dollars on, and not have it sell for a few months. I'll start carrying some and see how it goes from there.
2671  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Collectors Silver/Gold Coins/Bullion on: November 03, 2013, 12:33:33 AM
Nice catch.  I am going to have to watch your thread more carefully!  Folks are feeding you the deals.

Heh, yeah. Once I have a bit more capital flowing in and out, I'll be able to start offering more rare and harder to find/sell coins. As it is now though, I don't have the extra cash to buy a $500 coin that may or may not sit around for a few months. I do a lot of trades and purchases, so be sure to check in fairly often, as I never know what I'm going to have in stock.  Wink
2672  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Collectors Silver/Gold Coins/Bullion on: November 02, 2013, 06:59:03 PM

Thanks so much Smiley Just bought myself another. Guess I'll hang onto mine until the guy is done selling his. I've seen maybe four Dutchmans since their release in 2012, one being on Ebay for $450, but that was way outside my price range.
2673  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS/WTB/WTT] Collectors Silver/Gold Coins/Bullion on: November 02, 2013, 06:11:19 PM

2675  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where's John K? on: November 01, 2013, 08:15:34 PM
I know John has been busy with moving and with other things. I wouldn't worry about too much about him running off with your coins. That doesn't change the fact that you have been inconvienced, but hopefully its a little peace of mind.
2676  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NMC] Namecoin HARDFORK, Critical Update before block 150k <15/dec/13 on: November 01, 2013, 06:16:12 PM
I will sticky the thread on December 12th or 13th, so people will have a few days to make appropriate actions. If the retarget date changes, I'd appreciate it if someone would update me.
2677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LTC-GLOBAL] Litecoin Silver [Shutting Down] on: November 01, 2013, 05:09:20 AM
Heh, well this is the final update I suppose. Although the fund's silver hasn't sold I'm just going to send out the LTC owed, and hope that the silver sells shortly. Transfering in the BTC to BTC-E to get some LTC to pay out the share holders. Everything should be settled today.

All share holders have had their shares settled. Thanks for your support, twas a pleasure to have worked with all that participated.
2678  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Collectors Silver/Gold Coins/Bullion on: November 01, 2013, 02:28:00 AM
Just added a coin which I love dearly, and would not be sad in the least to see it not sell. After a few months of searching, I found a MS70 Proof 2012 Tuvalu Flying Dutchmen. With a mintage number of 3,000 which sold out within weeks of their release in 2012, finding a MS70 one has not only been a chore, but has been against the odds in every way. Getting a grade of MS70 from NGC is a fluke. In order to recieve that grade, the coin has to be absolutely flawless, something that is not often found even with coins straight from the mint. Sometimes being a one in many thousands odds depending on what mint it is coming from. Although I don't know for certain, but based on past trends, I would venture to guess that there are not more than 30 of the MS70 Flying Dutchmans.

For those that don't want to spend quite that much on a coin, I'm planning on heading to a coin show fairly soon, so hopefully I snag some neat coins at a good price.
