so the review prototypes that were sent out were for generating hype. NICE.
2662  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is anyone else having problems with BTC-E...won't let me register or login on: April 26, 2013, 01:59:28 AM

2664  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS Shipped on: April 26, 2013, 12:57:03 AM
wired just posted https://vine.co/v/bP2hXhAvO9i not incredibly important, but more people (media) are getting them.
great, if they can ship to customers rather than trying to generate more hype, the will be great.

2667  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTB] BF3 LE on: April 25, 2013, 10:55:47 PM
1. make webmoney account
2. make btc-e account
3. sell BTC for USD
4. withdraw to webmoney (btc-e charges 3.8% fee)
5. buy bf3 from plati.ru for $13

2669  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS Shipped on: April 25, 2013, 08:45:12 PM

Nice "Butterfly Labs" logo on the boxes. It will make it easy for thieves to pick out the money machines.

Josh said they would ship in "neutral" brown boxes with no logos. Oh well, another one of Josh's bogus messages ...

I'm looking forward to the next couple of months for the forum to be full of messages like this: "help!!!!!!!!!! my BFL shipment got lost!!!!!!!!!!!".

By your logic, video cards should be in plain brown packaging too, as they are also money machines.

The merit to plain packaging, is that it protects the original box. eg. wrap it in brown paper.
my video cards always comes in a bigger (generic) cardboard box, which holds the actual video card box.

April 15 update:
We are ramping up and the shipping of batch two has indeed begun, albeit not up to speed, we expect this situation to improve in a week or so once the equipment finish installing and the new, additional crew get use to the process. we are in also the process of merging many earlier problematic orders, if your order still does not show up in the store by Friday of the 19th please open another ticket.
Those who wish to trade in your FPGA generation Icarus or Lancelot: it is time to package and RMA those units back to us.. The bold text is probably when they will be starting.

Source? I wish they'd use their web site news to post updates.
that was from their email newsletter.

2675  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Satoshi Client: Improving time from "Start" to "Usable" on: April 24, 2013, 03:45:04 PM
What does database verification involve?
verification of all transactions in the block. this usually isn't a limiting factor because of multithreaded verification introduced in v0.8.0. The number limiting factor is usually blockchain download (from slow peer, since download isn't parallel). If you allocate enough ram for the db cache (2 gb+), disk usage shouldn't be a limiting factor.
2676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FinCen preparing to prosectute some Bitcoin users on: April 24, 2013, 01:00:19 PM
If FinCen start prosecutions against individuals and/or companies the next progression will be confiscation of their assets and possibly the coins they used in their transactions (easily traceable via blockchain) so in theory you could have 100 Btc in your wallet which has been used in a drug transaction and are therefore an accessory after the fact.
Suppose you bought those coins from Mtgox, they have your bank details and are therefore easily traceable.

How many people would like their names appearing in the papers as being connected to a drug or paedo ring?

Possibly another way of scaring people away from getting involved in the bitcoin economy?
they still have to prove that you had knowledge that the money was used for illegal activities. just as the police can't confiscate your dollar bills because they been used in a drug transaction 10 months ago, they can't confiscate your coins because they were allegedly from a drug transaction.
2677  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Annoucement] Avalon ASIC chip distribution through www.asic-chips.com on: April 24, 2013, 03:38:10 AM

2678  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Setting up BTC-E trading bot in Excel on: April 24, 2013, 03:29:36 AM
I see, and how would you recommend a newbie learn to set one up? I can program but no clue where to start
I doubt there's a free public trading bot for btc-e, so you'll have to code one yourself. If you know the basics of any (popular) programming language, it should be pretty easy. Just a matter of pulling data from BTC-E's api, and executing trades according to your strategy. However, if you don't know any programming language, you either have to learn a language, or hire someone to do it for you. In either case, I don't see how you can execute trades without some sort of API.
2679  Bitcoin / Hardware / Avalon batch 3 is definitely not shipping on time... on: April 24, 2013, 02:54:24 AM
Given the current delays, I'm predicting the median ship time for batch 3 to be May 22.
2680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Send bitcoins from selected addresses using bitcoin-qt on: April 24, 2013, 02:47:48 AM
Yes, you can do it with bitcoin-qt, but not through the GUI.
Just create an unique label for the address you want to send from and run
Code:
bitcoind sendfrom <fromaccount> <tobitcoinaddress> <amount> [minconf=1] [comment] [comment-to]
accounts system is in no way related to how addresses work. it's for bookeeping ONLY.
