2681  Bitcoin / Press / 2018-02-05 Lloyds Bank bans Bitcoin purchases on its credit cards on: February 05, 2018, 04:36:25 PM
Following the VISA and Mastercard clampdown on  bitcoin debit cards earlier,
Lloyds Banking Group has banned its customers from buying Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies on their credit cards.
The ban, starting on Monday, applies to Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and MBNA customers.

This ban doesn't apply to  debit cards, only the credit cards.

Explaining the ban, a Lloyds spokeswoman said: "We continually review our products and procedures and this is part of that."
The BBC asked other major banks about following Lloyds' move, but none had so far responded. The banking trade organisation UK Finance said it had not released any guidance on the matter.
Gillian Guy, the chief executive of Citizens Advice, welcomed the announcement by Lloyds, saying it "shows they recognise the risks of credit card customers running up debt they can't afford," she said.
Barclays told the BBC that at present, UK customers are able to use both their Barclays debit cards and Barclaycard credit cards to purchase crypto-currencies.

"We take precautions to assess affordability before extending credit, flag and prevent any suspicious transactions and also closely monitor credit risk," a spokeswoman said.

2682  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The best promotion tool on: February 05, 2018, 04:21:11 PM
What is the best tool to promote telegram chat and bounty-compaign do you know?

since bitcointalk is the most popular forum about cryptocurrencies and everything cryptocurrency related
you have come to the right place to promote both (if your telegram channel has anything to do with the crypta, that is)
the simplest and the cheapest way is to create a topic in the corresponding forum section
for ICOs and bounty campaigns would be: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=197.0  and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0
Telegram channels can be advertised in either: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=198.0 or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=84.0 ,depending on the content of the channel
you can run a signature campaign for your ICO: a random example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2521066.0
and the list of signature campaigns: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0
you can buy  ads here, participating in the auction :https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2047814.0

if you want more options and you have adequate resources to do so,
you can use Google Adwords or you can buy ad spaces at one of the bitcoin ad networks such as https://a-ads.com/ , https://mellowads.com etc.
another good option would be writing or buying an article, sending it to the cryptonews portals such as https://www.coindesk.com/ , https://cointelegraph.com/ etc.
maybe even posting  it here  under the news section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=77.0

pay attention to SMM (social media marketing) it is a great tool to advertise your project as well:
reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/  and twitter are both great sources of cryptocurrency enthusiasts
while facebook is not that friendly to anything bitcoin related in terms of advertising, but you can try there too: https://www.facebook.com/

there are many more ways to advertise your project, with various efficiency and for different types of budgets, for example:
free tokens giveaways, purchasing views at paid-to-click bitcoin sites, even the so called black marketing

but I think the ones I mentioned above should be enough for you for the time being
good luck with your project!

a very good bookmaker with multiple cryptocurrencies betting options, perfect money deposit is instant
liking the site so far,it even has an e-sports section!
no chance to test the withdrawal since I lost  Cool but I don't think there will be any problems with that
no withdrawal fee is one of the perks I would like to mention, bitcoin fees are way lower now
but it is a nice gesture and saves you several $ if you withdraw a small amount
hope the site stays this way,so far so good, can be recommended to place your bets at

2687  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-02] Japanese Authorities Raid Hacked Coincheck Exchange on: February 04, 2018, 06:17:52 PM
I don't get it, why do they need to raid Coincheck? Can the Japanese authorities just ask them to open their books for them and see if  they really have adequate fund? Coincheck has been cooperative as far as I know and even says that they are willing to refund its customer based. So it doesn't really make sense to me. I know government wants to ensure that users will and can be paid, but from the way media portrays it, for me its not a raid per se, but probably Financial Services Agency has just to Coincheck in unannounced. The media has really turning into another massive ploy to discredit crypto and put it into bad light.

maybe its a part of the global "coincedence" all the news and events suddenly are so terrible for crypta
and the market is crashing, simultaneously, every single piece of news is either neutral or negative, compared to the end of the year
when almost every media event was positive and full of hope,if this is not manipulation of the market then I don't even know...
as for the FSA raid I think they recieved info and suspected some foul play involving the exchange staff
530 mil is nothing to be sniffed at and many could have been swayed by the easy money and then blame the mysterious hackers never to be found

2689  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: February 04, 2018, 02:21:41 PM
Sorry about the delay in payments the last few days, we had a few users making large withdrawals which drained our hot wallets and created a backlog in sending payments out. We have a better hot-wallet refill policy in place now which should hopefully minimize such issues in the future.

A few points to clarify the re-branding:

  • The re-branding and addition of new coins will not happen suddenly, it will be done over a period of a few months and we shall send 3 emails over this time so that pretty much all of our users are aware before the name change.
  • We have the freebitco.in name registered until 2025 so even after the name change, all freebitco.in links will work as usual (no need to change banner or referral links etc.) and everyone visiting freebitco.in will be seamlessly directed to the new website with a message informing them of the re-brand.
  • All coins will have all of the features that bitcoin has but I am yet undecided about the lottery (maybe it will be a combined one with the prize paid out in the currency of the users choice)
  • Users will be able to claim only 1 coin every hour to begin with but hopefully I can increase the limits eventually.

The re-brand is part of a process to make freebitco.in more than just a faucet. My plan is to implement a no-KYC shapeshift.io style exchange after the rebrand to enable users to exchange between coins instantly. I feel like we have outgrown the freebitco.in name and the rebrand will allow us to do a lot more stuff without people associating the website with being just a faucet which somewhat restricts our growth now.

you are the owner and its up to you to decide
but from the marketing point of view it is counterproductive to rebrand this way
you have a recognisable brand,it is one of the best names imaginable to draw the new clients in
you think the market of the faucets is long gone? let me agree to differ, with the  adoption speed increasing, literally daily
there will be unlimited pool of new people who would want to try their hand at this new bitcoin thingy
and there is nothing better than "try first, buy later model" ,also you can have an unlimited number of services at your site
and position your site as a bitcoin portal where you can earn free bitcoins by claiming them every hour, winning, saving, trading etc. etc.
not even talking about SEO and rankings,it will take months if not years to get your new domain into top 100 for certain key word searches
but I'm sure your Google stats will show you how many search engine visitors you are getting daily
tl:dr redirect freebitcoin domain to the new one is a waste,I hope you reconsider

they change player seeds on one large bet and i know this as a fact as i changed the seed before hand because it was a big bet

also 1btc is a lot of bets and many more bets placed all pretty good volume

its about house edge and lies they say

Sorry to say this to you but 1btc wager is nothing.
But what you say about auto changing seed on bigger bets is something i would really like to see prof about!
Havent check this and havent really spend much coins on the page becouse i had this feeling (only my personal feeling) that something goes wrong there back in the days the page was new

Bitvest never changes player's seed
not for large bets, nor for small bets, never
you can change it yourself at any time there is a field for that
the site is provably fair -their provably fair tab explains it all and shows you every roll's hash before the roll, you can verify your bet result

я так понимаю я так и останусь nowbie навсегда, и можно забыть про прокачку аккаунтаHuh

до Мембера вам мериты не нужны совсем
а там всего 10 меритов для перехода нужно,получается за один! толковый пост

таблица меритов на английском:

Rank   Required activity   Required merit
Brand new   0   0
Newbie   1   0
Jr Member   30   0
Member   60   10
Full Member   120   100
Sr. Member   240   250
Hero Member   480   500
Legendary   Random in the range 775-1030   1000

2694  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-20] Kaspersky Labs Co-Founder Says Bitcoin Created By American Intellig on: February 03, 2018, 11:08:48 AM
On what she said about smart phones is partly true. There is the possibility that the NSA has the ability to backdoor those devices and gather information. Some apps were also shown to have weak encryption. Also, if you have location services always on, anyone can find where you are and stalk you. No hacking needed hehehe.

Her comments about bitcoin might also be true. We already know that there is the possbility that Satoshi Nakamoto is not a single person, but a group of people. There was also the story of Gavin Andresen going to the CIA headquarters and after that, Satoshi was never heard of again.

Did Gavin share or post about what really happened with him and the CIA?

only a possibility? haven't you read the articles about apple?
the company has been busted to have backdoors in their phones preinstalled, also they officially cooperated with the agencies to
unblock their Iphones (like the agencies could not do it without them announcing it publicly, haha) to "fight terrorism"
the usual terrorism ruse to be able to deprive you of the remnants of your privacy
if you don't trust Snowden, just google bout apple and their face recognition system
now you fill in their databases for them and are paying for it top buck as well

2696  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system for newbies on: January 31, 2018, 06:42:48 PM
The idea consists in giving new members a certain amount of points (let's call them benefits for simplicity), which they can use to reward users helping them here. It is sort of reflection of the merit system working in reverse order. The purpose of the proposed system would be twofold. First, it is drawing the attention of the long-standing members to the problems of the new user, and second, likely making the latter more constructive by providing a feedback mechanism. So this system would run in tandem with the merit system. You're welcome to discuss my proposal here. Just in case, this is not my idea, it was suggested by user PhuketSunset in this local Russian topic. I only formulated it and brought it here

A quick and dirty fix would be forbidding Legendary members to grant merits to other Legendary members (it is a waste of merits)

Not a bad idea but should you consider those account farmers who will actually benefit by this? they will get more opportunity to give merits on their other accounts might as well they only create new bitcointalk account just to collect those merits. With this issue I don't merit system will serve it's purpose properly and will only tolerate farming of accounts.

I thought it over and I think there is a solution

This problem can be tackled in the following way. For example, when a user registers here, the new account will be credited with 100 benefits. But they would be useless as such. Users could only give them to a higher-ranked member (those who help them), and only Legendary members will have them converted to s-merits (they can receive only benefits while newbies only merits). The advantage of such system is twofold. First, there will be an organic source of new s-merits, i.e. no more s-merits printed out of thin air (while benefits should be converted to the same number of s-merits), and, second, forum "keyboard warriors" could easily trace the flow of benefits from lower to higher ranks as well as flow of merits in the opposite direction. What is your opinion, guys? I think this could work out

Think there could be a Nmerit (Newbie merit),yes
it could be distributed among all  the new members during the registration, maybe all the current accounts up to the Jr.member rank, included -100 Nmerit each
the Nmerits can only be given to hero and legendary members, who recieve half a sMerit for each Nmerit they get,
also maybe introduce some badges people love so much aka top newbie helper or something equally shiny
in ideal world this should get higher ranked members out of their ivory towers more often to help newbies
although I'm not sure if it is possible technically or solves problems with multiaccounting
but it should be much easier to trace connections between such, for sure and we are here to brainstorm and suggest ideas-it's only those who do nothing that make no mistakes
2697  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system for newbies on: January 30, 2018, 06:51:42 PM
The idea consists in giving new members a certain amount of points (let's call them benefits for simplicity), which they can use to reward users helping them here.

So if Merit is a non-commodity, would that make your idea an alt-non-commodity

I'd like to request a new ANC (or nANC) - members get points every time a post gets a "nod from Vod".

Seriously though, no more complication is necessary.  If you see someone providing exceptional help to a newbie, give them merit.  Smiley

There is matter and there is antimatter

And this is how nature made it. On an even more serious note though, people don't seem very inclined to give their merits, especially to newbies. Someone has given you 5 merits for this post (he has the right, ain't my business), but how many merits have you given to novice members yourself? I see the same names in your sent merits list which I have seen here for years. And even those which I don't know are almost all Hero and Legendary members. Yes, I did run a quick check through the list, and I have found only two Junior members in your list of sent merits (this dude and this one) and not a single Newbie. Now tell me more about how this system is gonna work out. Higher ranks need to be motivated toward meriting novice members somehow. What about disallowing to grant merits to Legendary members by other Legendary members? To me, this is an obvious, heedless, needless, and even profane waste of merits (if we expect this system to be of any merit)

you forget  that every 1 Merit recieved gives you 0.5 sMerit,so a Legendary member that grants merit to another Legenadary member
gives him half a sMerit to distribute and is not a "profane" waste of merits ,as merits is not a finite resource or a badge of honour or a means to help the members to rank up
the main idea of it is to try and  imrove the overall quality of the forum
if I find that a Legendary member's post is of substance and is informative and helpful to the said newbies,do I have to clench my teeth and skip it?
also in general, psychologically, people tend to make safe choices and meriting established quality posters is easier and bears low risks  of getting accused of multiaccounting (in case you merit new accounts continuously you as well could be by the allhelpful neighbourhood watch here  Smiley )
think higher ranks should be motivated to spend their merits in general, not just on the newbies, maybe introduce a replenish/decay system for non-sources or add more people who
prove they can merit properly to the source pool
in any case it is for theymos to decide and it is too early to judge-the system is less than one week old
2698  Other / Meta / Re: The reality is 99.9% members can never rank up with the new merit system. on: January 30, 2018, 05:58:00 PM
Why a Legendary member should "lose time" to give Merit Points to anyone else?
This is the main reason that will make this new system fail.

it is not about losing time,me,for example,I don't mind meriting posts that I find helpful, ineresting or humorous
there is no point for me to sit on my merit,I have no need for it other than to mark the posts and the posters that I think are contributing to the forum, making it better
for lower ranked members who have to level up,this is a valuable resource
for higher ranked members like legendaries it is something you don't have to sweat over too much
with time, when the hype subsides and the system shows its pluses and minuses,I'm sure we will see tweaks and adjustments by theymos
after all the main idea is not to make the life harder for the new members but to encourage them to be more creative and have more substance in their posts

I hope this is a real bet, not only your own bet to get attention from us. In case it is a real bet, it is not an impressive thing. 20 days with one bet only, are you happy with it? No plans to get more players by reducing the min bet? I wonder why you keep the 10mbtc as the minimum bet while there are some people do not like it. Probably you should add some altcoins with small min bet, also it will attract more players as well because alts has lower transaction fees.

Yes, this is a real victory, a real player!
We very glad that at least someone believed that the game is not fraud, and he received a reward for that.
Nothing else matters  Wink

wow, glad to see that after gruesome weeks of waiting someone has tried the site

I think you should take the criticism and make changes to the min bet

I had a few dealings with bitsler support, one just recently when I had my withdrawal

so I contacted support and they rechecked the system and assured me that the money went through
seemed it was just a glitch with the blockchain, asked me to wait and appologised for the inconvenience
after a couple of hours it went through and credited as expected
