2681  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The completely evaluation of Dragon 1 T bitcoin miner from china on: January 20, 2016, 11:33:30 PM
What is the ssh pw for dragon A1 and how can i use his cgmienr api?

I believe it depended on what firmware you were using.   It has been a long time but I think at least 1 version they did not share the ssh credentials with public.

Its been a long time since I have dealt with it.  Make sure to backup firmware before trying but this might help - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=648730.0
2682  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help me troubleshoot my new Antminer S7 on: January 20, 2016, 11:14:54 PM
Hmmm....so you think this is a power issue? I based my system from what I found on the internet. This sucks.

Dunno, if thats the case you should be able to set a lower clock, reboot the thing and then it would work.

Did you ever make a screenshot of your pool config page? I'd like to see it.

Assuming it's a B8 running at default 800 watt's is not enough to run 2 blades.  That is a 1000 watt psu only on 220/240 so would work fine there.

But he will have to underclock to get 2 blades running with 800 watt's.   It might not be only issue but it is for sure at least one issue.

+3.8 = Notlist3d

Thanks! And edonkey is nice we are doing decent on btc value rise today.  Coinbase at 418 currently so a pretty quick rebound and is just getting better and better.
2684  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I Buy used or new miners? on: January 20, 2016, 11:06:53 PM
Like hash72 said.

Don't buy any miners. The price is too high, while the difficulty will prevent you from making profit.
Either buy bitcoins directly or don't. Mining is dead.. for over a year now.

Mining is dad for high electricity price users. If your electricity is more than $0.2/kWh, it is better not to mine. Just buy/hold/use bitcoin.

I think your electicity price is more then what most should do.  At 20 cent's I would not mine on it just to high long term.  Only chance is to mine then sell gear pretty quickly.

I would really want 10 cents or less on electricity before attempting to mine.  And that is including all fee's and taxes.
2685  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is this math right? on: January 20, 2016, 11:03:23 PM
Difficulty adjustments are normally about twice a month. At 8% per diff adjustment, the difficulty will MUCH MORE than double by halfing.

You are right. I have just done the maths and if we see 8% increases every 14 Days, the we would see the Doubling on May 12th.

Shows how deceptive an apparently low number like 8% is, when compounded only needs 4 Months for a doubling. So let's hope, as I hoped, that on average it is less than 8%...

Rich

Compound interest is one of the amazing things in finance.  It can work for or against you depending on situation.  But it is amazing over time what it can do.

What I wish I could speculate better is the value of BTC around having.  We are slowly making it back up since the last bump.  But I just hope Mike Hearn can handle not being in the top news on BTC and stops doing statements 2 so far neither helped BTC value.   Short term it's not been the greatest with that and cryptsy.
2686  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: January 20, 2016, 10:54:17 PM
dont forget that in 2016 btc income from mining will be half

but the value will be also very high, the current value already is about 100% more than what it was, so easily at this point will not count anything, incomparison when we were at 230

The price of bitcoin is not certain to rise. That is just a speculation. But the blockreward is going to halve, that is certain.

For this it is a big risk to start mining now.
Sure you can profit easily for 6 months.

But.. then what?

The bitcoin price might rise in long term. That is caused by adoption of the bitcoin as a payment method. It is valuable investment as well.

I think if you believe in bitcoin you believe it will rise long term.   Mining is no guaranteed profit, you have to enjoy it to do it.  Also you are speculating you will make a ROI.

This thread thought can pretty much be done long and short term.  21 cent's is just to much to mine on.  As long as you can get a data center for half of  that, it's a far better option.
2687  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ANTMINER U3? on: January 20, 2016, 05:19:06 AM
Before you go with U3 (if ever you haven't ordered one from www.usbminer.ch) I would say stop and invest in GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer instead, It's a bit expensive as per ratio to it's GHs but it wouldn't give you a head ache like U3 does. I always had to check couple of times in a day to see if everything was functioning normally with U3 but didn't have this problem with compact.

And automation can be done CrazyGuy wrote a amazing custom R1 firmware.  I ran 3 U3's for month's using it with a R1, no babysitting them at all.

But when I ran them on windows without something to detect and fix zombies life was a pain
2688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 20, 2016, 03:40:23 AM
Can you power an antminer s7 off an evga 1300 and a corsair 500 watt psu? I'm thinking the 1300 for the blades and the 500 for the controller. Would this setup work?

Assuming B8 or B9 unless underclocked I don't see running 3 blades off 1300 watt's.  Also I don't think it comes with 9 PCIe cables (could be wrong been a while since I have opened a box to one).

It would be the evga 1600 to run all 3 blades if you want to do it off 1 psu on evga series.  I would look at 220/240 if at all possible and there are some great server PSU's.  They have really taken over S7 market on PSU's being used.
2689  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help me troubleshoot my new Antminer S7 on: January 20, 2016, 03:33:07 AM
1 ps has 6 connectors and runs 2 hash boards. 1 ps has 4 connectors and runs the other hash board and the controller. Yes, it's 120V.

I hate mixing PSU's I would see how others with this kit are doing it with 120.  But each board is going to use more then the 400.  So I don't think 1 of the PSU's will run two.  If it was on the 220/240 with 1000 watts it would run two.  But your giving them to few of watt's I think on 2.  Unless they are underclocked then you could depending on settings. Also I'm assuming it's a batch 8 or 9 in this.

So ask seller if they do a mix of how they do on 120.  I would sit it aside till you get that anwser from seller or someone on here who has used it.
2690  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ANTMINER U3? on: January 20, 2016, 03:29:01 AM
Hi
I'm a very new miner still in the research phase and i've been having a look at what hardware to use. After tons of time I found that teh Antminer U3 is perfect for what I want to do. On the Bitmain website they edvertise that the batch 2 versions are for 20$ but they aren't available and seam to cost more than 50$ on all other places. Could you explain why or tell me of equivalent products??
Richard

20 dollars was if you bought a pack of 10 at least.  Some resellers bought them so it is always been higher then that by a bit.  The U3's lately have been going in 40-50 area which is surprising.  Also shipping on those since come in a nice box with padding is another 10 or so.

I'm not sure I would recommend them if you don't have automation on fixing zombies.  You really have to watch them more then most miners I've had.   You could get a compac from sidehack and not watch it all day for zombies.  But it cost's more per T, but it's more efficient by far.

Your kinda in a hard market it's the lotto and learning.  No matter what you will not ROI unless you happen to sell at end and get lucky on price.
2691  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help me troubleshoot my new Antminer S7 on: January 20, 2016, 03:21:49 AM
I have 2 hp 1000w psu's with X-Adapter REV 2 & 14AWG THHN Cables(the kits you see on amazon, etc). I can't get the red light by the ethernet port to go off. I think that light means it's in some kind of fault mode. There are no stats in the miner status page, not even the fans. It's like they don't exist. I need to figure out what the problem is. Can I just plug in one board at a time to see if they work independently to see if one of the boards is bad? I unplugged everything and checked the power supplies and was getting 12.79V on all 10 connectors.

All 10 power connectors are plugged in. The control board is connected to all 3 hash boards with the ribbon cables.

Any help would be much appreciated.

How is the wiring split on the 1000 watt PSU's?  And are you running them on 120 volt?

Looks like on 120 they go down to 800 watts.  So curious on your wiring.
2692  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New Mining Farm on: January 19, 2016, 11:41:39 PM
This is my first topic on this forum , and I am seriously thinking to start a small Bitcoin mining farm , and I have around 30k USD to invest in this venture . Would you consider this investment a good one , considering the current developments in the bitcoin industry as well as the fact that the local power rate in my area is around 0.22 USD/KWh .

I am interested in either the Antminer S7 or the Uranus Miner 6.0 TH/s .

Any tips on how to buy the equipment at a lower price , or cheaper setup alternatives , if any .

Thanks for your support .
I am intrigued by your mention of the Uranus miner. How did you hear about it?  To the best of my knowledge the Uranus Miner never appeared. View it as a scam.

As others have said mining is now only profitable in the small number of locations around the world where electricity is under about 0.10 USD/kWh.  Cloud mining is also extremely risky with most being scams.

If you really have 30K USD I suggest you start doing considerable research before investing.

It almost sounds like a possible troll.  Someone who knows exact electricity price has done some research to know people will ask that right off.  For him to mention a scam miner that is pretty much dead in all  threads is interesting as it was a obvious scam.

But troll or not electricty rate mentioned kills the deal .   You would need to pay a hosting center which is less then 1/2 of your power costs OP.  That is only chance at ROI.
2693  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Help on: January 19, 2016, 11:36:41 PM
0.04738 for 1kWh
I know how bitcoins work but I wanna get into mining.
By looking at this https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
Im looking to get something like the antminer u3 or prices somewhere like that.

Ah, well, if you're just looking to have some fun and not really into generating btc, get a gekko sidehack stick. The sales reopened lately so it would be a good usb stick to learn some basics mining concept (maybe).

You could try to get some U3 but its not really a great miner for a couple of reasons. Maybe 20$ each could be worth it.

They go for around double that currently it's going to be around 40ish on most u3's.   So you are paying for a lotto machine and chances of profit or even ROI is slim.

You need to look at a bigger machine if you want ROI.  Price per TH is just a lot cheaper.  Yes it's more expensive but if you want chance at ROI you have to do it.  Also with U3 they are a pain on zombie you need some automation on reset unless you enjoy babysitting gear.

You don't even know what calculator to use.  You have a lot of learning to do
before anyone will take you seriously.

So far it look like some new guy trying his luck at scamming. One that has very little knowledge with Bitcoin;

"processing crypto currencies" Cute.

Op, you would not even be able to pay yourself back 100% in 6 months, so how you could pay investors back? Its not possible.

If you're really that prominent in your country, you would be able to get a federal loan for a governmental project. But your numbers don't add up.

It is either a scam or greedy person.   If they have what he claims this should be something in their budget.  Look at around 1k per miner you could do 74T or so easily for around 10 grand (maybe a little higher with PSU's).  But this should be within your budget if your responsible for a data center... i think OP most likely is making himself sound more important then he is.

And even if someone crazy would send you machines if your rates are so low why would it be 50/50?  Seems like owner is investing most money, but you think your worth 50 percent?   Split would be no where near what you mention.  But I don't see anyone sending gear.

There is several "send me your miners and we'll split profit 50/50." offers right now, it make it sound like its the same person trying to scam people through slightly different angle, rather than several nearly-identical setup suddenly offering the same service.

Previously i replied to one asking "The cut you're asking is insane, there are already high trust services and data center offering affordable hosting and they take nowhere close to 50%, "so do you think you could compete with those?".

I tried a few times, i either did not get a reply or the thread was locked. Then i saw nearly the same offer pop up again, and again.

Its too bad if one of these is legit but...

Sadly you are right these do pop up to often.  And some I agree are the same person chances are.   Venezuela about once a month has someone try to get miners sent to them.

2695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HELP! Total Newbie was told I needed to accept Bitcoin for charity on: January 19, 2016, 05:32:43 PM
Check to see if any of your banks will accept Bitcoin on behalf of charities. I believe that Barclays in the UK will do this. Maybe you have some forward thinking banks in your country.

Chances of this is very very slim.   I think if they do BTC it's going to be hard to claim a tax benefit from it.  It would need to be a big charity for that to be worth it.  I just don't see most doing BTC, I think check's will be most common.

If I was them throw a BTC address up on website that is a paper wallet or something secure. (I would say hardware but said paper as I don't see many using it).  But throw it on site and see if it takes off.  With so many scams I just don't see lots of BTC donations coming in.  A website saying were X charity and put false data or someone else's data is just to easy to do.
2696  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: January 19, 2016, 05:06:38 PM
Was these 18 units connected in chain, one by one?

Here is one Chinese picture offering to connect miners to RaspberryPi using USB hub:

Interesting, I hadn't seen that in practice, but I remember the BlockC guys saying something like that was possible.  I currently run 8 per Pi, but when I was first fiddling with them, I brought up one whole rack with one Pi, so that's 32 A6's all in series.

I suspect the number 6 is ideal, as I have the same issue he outlined, that sometimes units take a while to come online or drop periodically for no apparent reason (nothing major enough to make me look into it).  But I have a couple machines running with just 2 A6's and 4 A6's, and I don't think I've ever seen them exhibit the same issue.

Thanks for sharing diagram first time I have seen it.  Still very interesting how expandable they are with using RPI as controller.   I would love to see one using 60 set up on one.  I have had good luck with my two on reliability.

I really wish all miners would use RPI's as controllers really does work well.  It's one pro I see with Avalon 6 over some other designs.

2698  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Putting an S7 in the room I am sleeping in? on: January 19, 2016, 04:56:56 PM
Everyone is different but I would find it hard to sleep in same room....about half as loud as a vacuum cleaner running depending on the fan speed you run it at. Then you will have the heat also....so depending on where you live it may get warm in the room as well.

Well, my S7 running at lower fan speed, has a super noisy and high pitch noise. And even at highly reduced fan speed, my dB read it louder than my shop vac at one feet, so. Sleeping with a S7 in the room is perhaps like having 1 shop vac taped to each of your ears.

Not to mention the PSU if your using the 220/240 Bitmain one that thing has a small high rpm fan.  But I would not suggest for anyone to sleep with a S7 in their room, it as just not built for quiet use.  It's loud enough it will be a issue for most in room you sleep in.

If you need one in your room look more at Avalon 6.  It will give you a quieter machine.  Yes it will cost more per T but you will be able to sleep with it in same room, I had it in mine during a lot of the testing I did on it.

S7 is a good machine but you really need an area for it in my view.  Unless you do some modification to make it quieter.
2699  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What happened to the Antminers with the 5.05 hash rate? on: January 19, 2016, 04:53:17 PM
My batch 2 freq rated at freq 575 is outstanding.

It can do as high as freq 631 does 5120 gh at .26 watts per gh.

On the other end if you run it with a titanium evga t2 at freq 575 you get 0 hardware errors and .246 watts per gh.

Wonder what the suposid gain was for making them at 700 out of the box.   What are new ones looking at power wise if not .25.    I know originally people were running them with evga 1300 watts.  Now that won't handle it if I understand correctly.

The gain was to use less chips to attain the same hash or so. So for the Chinese's "Full Volt Full speed" portfolio, cost effective BUILD, they did well, since they take 135 chips now to reach 4.73TH/s instead of 162 or whatever.

So their costs went down and we could argue that the price we pay went down too. But the end result is .29~ efficiency instead of .25, since the chips need to run at a higher voltage. (And very well maybe a higher failure rate, but i can only speculate.)

And the EVGA 1300 watts can do it, albeit at reduced efficiency. I estimate about up to 1480w at the wall.

My EVGA 1600 P2 does 1415 watts which equate to 1295w DC, but i do not have the fan running at full speed.
Running with the Bitmain 1600w PSU my s7b8's, as reported by my UPS's are all pulling 1,220-1,255w from the AC plug. Running stock clock speed all have been pretty rock solid at a daily average of 4.7-4.9TH/s sometimes hitting as high as 5.8THs (and occasional lows of 3.8TH/s) over a 10min period as reported by my pool.

My B8 stay's at 4.7 almost always.  It seems they have done a good job with latest design of getting a product that is pretty consistent on speed.  It is cranked up on freq, so OC is pretty much out of question (at least on how far I would push it).

The ones with 5T and or ones with more chips, I don't think we will see again.  They are able to use less chips now and this lowers costs, makes profits higher.   And hopefully that means they can sell for lower.    But I think 4.7T version is here to stay.
